I'm having a taco bar for my sister's birthday party and am fixing all the food myself. How much ground beef do you think I should cook for 40-50 people? There will also be chips & salsa, a layered bean dip, fruit kabobs, and spanish rice. I figured in the kids as well (probably about 10), and estimate 2 tacos per person, but I *never* cook for a crowd , so am a little unsure.

Of course, there will be margaritas, so maybe the question shouldn't be "Will I have enough tacos," but rather "Will I have enough tequila?" lol

My aunt (caterer) goes by 1/4 lb of meat per person, but I wonder if for tacos it wouldn't be a little less?

ETA: I mean because some people may not want meat.

I use one pound for 4 people, so I'd say 12 pounds.

I'm just going by what we eat with tacos..... I usually make 1 pound of beef for 3-4 people and we each eat 2-3 tacos or taco salad.
Maybe 12 pounds? I dunno. Maybe someone else will have a better idea than i do.

I would probably go 10 - 12 pounds to be safe. I like to have more food than I think I will need, so I would probably go with 12.

Thank you!

DH thought 10 lbs, too, so I think maybe I'll go with 12 just to be safe.

The peas always know.

Remember...they're not eating "Just Tacos". Every time I cook, I fix enough of Dish X to feed an army, not realizing that they will be eating other stuff as well. I always forget they will be eating more than just that dish.

I would go with 15. You don't want to not have enough and taco meat freezes well for later if there are left overs -just don't put it all out at once.
