I know they are not out at the LSS yet, those were the only two they had and I resisted, now I kinda wish I would have broughten UP I just carried it around for awhile. Can't believe M gets it before the LSS can.

Oh MAN! I had an entire reply typed out and it timed out....drat!
Anyhow, I was just writing to let you know that out of our recent release, M's is only going to be carrying the UP and Granola and only in paper packs. This is an exclusive to them item and can only be found in that format there. However, they will NOT be getting any of the collection packs, chipboard, brads, etc. that coordinate with these lines.
Please know that UP and Granola are both slated to ship very soon so all the goodies, complete with all the extras should be showing up in your LSS very soon. |

And does BG think that the Lss's are going to be happy about this? Apparently they don't care. Come ON, couldn't they have least waited until the LSS's got the papers and embellishments. Ugh.

I have to agree with Jackie. With so many companies selling to the big box stores they are selling the LSS's short. It is a disappointment that BG has chosen to release product to those stores when the small stores don't even have it yet.

I spoke with the owner of my LSS tonight and she said this was NOT mentioned to the retailers at the CHA show.
If she had known that, she never would have purchased these two lines for the store. She's now stuck with the order.
And it doesn't matter that the rest of the line isn't shipping to the BBS. People will snap up those paper packs with their 40% and 50% off coupons and leave the papers to collect dust in their LSS's.
I agree with the above posters. The LSS's should have been the first to get these.
You know, with these new releases, I was actually interested in BG again. The last year or so of releases has been pretty dull to me, so I haven't purchased as much BG as I used too. But these new lines were amazing. I was ready to buy them all. Maybe I should boycott them.

Paper pads? Is this not the regular basic grey cardstock? Or is it more like paper? I just preordered the Granola and Urban Prairie yesterday online. Now they're going to have it at Michaels??? I wish I'd known yesterday!! |

In my experience if it's in a PAD it's not good quality paper like the single sheets. Wild Aspargus/MME comes to mind. I was so excited to find it at ACM and when I realized it was just thin paper I passed on it.
When they M's sold the PACKS of BG paper way back that was "real" paper (the kind we can buy singly).
I never buy packs anyhow. I like my paper by the sheet and if I can't get it that way....I will pass. |

Hopefully it's just the paper. I didn't preorder the entire granola pack, but I did preorder the entire Urban Prairie pack. I guess I'll know for next time, kind of a bummer though. |

not every potential consumer will be reading 2Peas to tracks coupons fanatically
the average LSS shoppers will still buy from their LSS as their source of scrapbook supplies
the average (non 2Peas) Michaels shoppers may have never heard of Basic Grey and this is a great place to introduce them to a paper line beyond the usual offerings at Ms
Personally, I'll still shop at my favorite online retailer for the new Basic Grey. I only go to Michaels when absolutely necessary and I rarely even venture over to the scrapbook aisle when I'm do go. So coupon, no coupon, selling the paper pack before or after the LSS gets it, really doesn't matter to me. |

Just because the person doesn't post on 2 Peas doesn't mean that the person doesn't know who Basic Grey is.
I know people who only shop BBS because they can get stuff on sale or use their coupons.
I just wish the manufacturers would realize what this does to the little guy.
And for all of those people who don't have a local store, I feel bad for them. This is why they don't have a store or why their store closed.
2 Peas does not represent the majority of the scrapbooking/stamping community.

I'm sure that up here in Canada the packs will retail for $30 or more. Even with a coupon, it will be cheaper at my LSS.
All the new stuff coming into Ms is far overpriced and I find myself shopping there less and less.
If I was an LSS owner I don't think it would bother me that they were carrying it bc as I said up here the prices at the LSS are more competitive than the BBSs. |

It's all about business, not "helping" the little guy out.
BG is ran well and they have a good head for business or they wouldn't have been in the game so long!
Just a thought.
And yeah, I feel bad that LSS didn't get it first but the way the entire industry is, I'm surprised there's any still in business. |

Personally the problem I have is the fairness of them releasing it to Michael's 6 weeks before the LSSs get it. I understand that they are trying to make a living and getting their product out is their top priority. However, we (being the non-big-box stores) were told that Urban Prairie and Granola would be available in mid-October. Had I known that Michaels was getting the products so early, I would not have put a preorder on my site. This is not the first time BG has treated retailers unfairly. I could go on and on but this is not the forum for that.

The LSS is their bread and butter too.
Just a thought.
As for the LSS vs the BBS, I would THINK that BG would have told the LSS's at CHA that they were releasing this to the BBS BEFORE they released it to them. Sounds like they didn't. Kind of sad really.
My LSS told us about SEI doing something similar. SEI released a line with Poppies on it to M's. It was a 'trial' according to SEI. So now, that line proved successful and they're trying to push it to the LSS's.
All you ever hear about in the scrap world is how the stores are closing. Some are due to poor management and others are due to the competition. Its just sad. I REALLY don't want to have to shop at M's for things. I hate that store along with the other BBS's.
I would rather have my LSS but it looks like no one cares about them anymore.

I'm not nuts about the collection packs. I'm not crazy about the stickers or alphas, so I don't use the whole pack, and $19 is too much to pay for a pack of paper I won't use every bit of, especially considering it only has one piece of each pattern. And my LSS doesn't usually carry an entire line piece by piece. So yeah, I think I'd be interested in buying a pack without the stickers and other crap with a 40% coupon.
I'm not sure I like the fact that it's a M's exclusive and wasn't offered to the LSS, as I would rather buy it there. I might decide not to buy it at all, or wait until I'm at another, farther away, LSS to buy it piecemeal.

I feel bad for LSS owners - this sucks for them. However, our LSS went out of business over a year ago, so the only way I have to see product before I buy it is the chain stores. So selfishly I am excited to go to Michael's and check it out! I certainly think BG should have told the lss owners at CHA...I think the whole situation sucks - I wish that there were a billion scrapbook stores and they were all doing really well!

In one M it was on an end base by the scrapbook stuff, at the M I was at today it was on an end base by the stamp supplies. The clerk would not sell it to me for 20% off as all their paper pads excluding Martha S. were on sale, because she looked at the ad and said only the glitter stacks! Brother, so I used my 40% off from J!

As a retailer, this really bums me out. Makes me want to cancel my order. I know I can never order as much as Michael's but I have been ordering BG for years and this is the tanks I get. Tell me that customers won't want to get a pad at 40% off even if it is a little bit thinner. |

I got mine today! They are 40% off and the 12x12 IRIS cases are only $4.99. And I was handed a $5 off with $25 purchase coupon as I walked in the store... so I got both 12 x 12 pads and the case for about $25! What a deal. (I almost bought a cricut cartridge today since they are all $39.99 and I don't even own a cricut!)
On a side note, I am sorry if BG misrepresented (or flat out lied) to the LSS what would go to a BBS vs. LSS. But BG and all other vendors are participating in this great capitalistic economy we have in the USA! So I can hardly blame them for profiting from those stores that will buy and sell their products.
But that might be for another thread... or possibly has been discussed ad nauseam.

Picked up Urban Prairie today. Granola didn't interest me (even though I have 3 boys and only 1 girl). I'm SO glad it was there. I was going to go Saturday but my DH wanted me to wait to today and run all my errands together (b/c of the price of gas). It was the last pack. There were still about 3 of the Granola...

Okay girls--I was there today--YES--they are part of the 40% off packs this week.
HOWEVER ----for me this is key---It is just THIN paper!!!!! It is not the heavy quality we get when we buy individually. Like someone posted before--I found this out with the MME lines there as well.
It has actually been kind of shocking to me to see that these companies print out their same designs on varying qualites of paper. I bought a pack of MM Noteworthy at Ts and was disappointed when i opened it and found the thin paper. (My LSS had already slod out of the shaped papers and had moved on to the next new thing.) |

That's funny the BG I purchased was the same weight as the reg basic grey. And their packs have always been 19.99. The pack of MME was also card stock weight so I'm not sure what you're store is carrying. I had the papers in my hand and felt them. The new M's I went to even had the granola stamps and rub ons all on one end cap. |

I was very surprised that my M's actually had them in stock. The BG ones were the regular BG cardstock weight. Some of the MAMBI packs were lighter weight, but both BG and some of the DCWV stacks were heavy, cardstock weight.
Marlene/Twinsis, I wonder if some of the packs you saw were "pilfered" by people? All the ones left at my M's were still "sealed" with the tape pieces, and all the pics shown on the front were inside the pack - two of each pattern and solid.
My M's did not have the "accessory" pieces to the two lines, however. |

To me the issue of how thick the paper is is secondary. I buy the 6x6 BG packs because it's the same print as the 12x12 only shrunk down - NOT the same thing that you get if you cut a 12x12 into 4 quarters.
What a shame. I know that the retailers really have to be chafing over this after all of the other lines that this has happened with (LSS vs. M's).
