Hi all! Just wanted to start the thread (sorry for the delay!). I hope you all are enjoying the class, and I'm here to answer any questions you might have throughout the week.

BTW, don't forget to create your own project using faux metal and share it in the gallery (be sure to post under the challenge). There will be a winner chosen from all the entries who will win a really sweet prize!

Anyhow, enjoy!

Kristina

Great project, and you broke it down into very easy, manageable pieces. Thanks!

That's so cool!
I so wanna try this but i'm going to have to wait till santa gets here (i've got a heat gun and embossing powders on my wish list!) to try this.

But i did order the stamp-a-ma-jig that you suggested in your other class...just waiting till it gets here!

Thanks again for the great video and directions!

Thank you for the great new technique! I love heat embossing and needed an excuse to use my tool and powders. It has been about three years since I touched them! Woohoo I hope my Versamark ink pad is still moist!

This is a neat project. I haven't embossed in awhile, so I'll have to check and see what kind of EPs I have.

When you add your project to the gallery, just click on "Classes: Stamp Camp '08 - Week 1 : Faux Metal" under Creating Garden. (see photo below).

I believe you can add to the gallery up until Sunday night, right, Mel? The next morning, there will be a new Stamp Camp class.

That was such an interesting video! Thank you very much. I hope I end up with something worth posting LOL.

I have just a couple of questions: 1) Can you use rubber stamps to do this also, or do acrylics work better?

and 2) how do you clean your stamps afterwards if you get EP on them? (which I'm sure to)

TIA

Hiya Kristina,

Thanks for the awesome video tutorial. You always make things look so easy. I thought I'd try and give Faux Metal a go in white EP:

Great technique...I'll be using it for my cards this year. I love metals, but it gets so heavy & not practical to mail, KWIM?

Yes, how do you clean the melted embossing powder off the stamp? I know it will happen to me, too.

Thanks Kristina! Fun lesson. I tried using sandpaper and some fabric mesh (which my DH now tells me is fiberglass cloth!) on the scraps and got some neat texture. Don't have time to experiment more tonight but it was fun!

HERE is my simple card.

Thanks again!

I've tried this technique before in gold, silver and clear; so decided to try out white for an enamel finish. Your video instructions were very clear and helpful.

Here's my contribution

Wow! You guys are fast! You're just jumping right in and trying it out! That's awesome!

To answer a couple questions about cleaning your stamps and what kind to use....

You can use all kinds of stamps. I first learned this technique using regular old red rubber stamps. Recently, I tried it with clear stamps and it worked just as well.

You won't get any melted embossing powder on your stamp as long as you thoroughly coat the stamp with VersaMark ink before you press it into the liquid embossing powder. And if for some reason you do, I imagine you can just pick it off with your fingernail. The stamp is more pliable that the embossing powder so I bet you could just pull the stamp away from the embossing powder.

Hope that helps!
Kristina

If it's any help to anyone, I have used this technique many times in the past, and never got embossing powder on my stamps, nor damaged them in any way. As Kristina says, make sure you have ink on the stamp first. Versamark or any metallic ink works well.

I was determined to never use embossing powder or buy a heat gun! But now I am so getting both!!! I love the idea of making faux metal embellies on cards especially since it won't weigh as much and then my postage for cards could be less!!

Kristina--I have a question.
I tried the faux metal last night on a few stamps and of the 4 I did, two turned out and two didn't. I'm wondering what I did wrong? Was my embossed area not hot enough? It looked very wet. Or should I have pressed the image down longer? I thought I did them all the same way, but I certainly didn't get the same outcome.

OK. I'm in! This was fun. It's a technique I think about trying every time I see someone else using a piece of faux metal. I'm glad for the motivation to get it done. Here are my pieces and my card.

Before making my card, I looked through all of the cards that had been posted. Your wonderful work encouraged me to just get in there and make something with one of the pieces. Thank you everyone for the inspiration. Daria
