I have not been feeling well and took a test. Originally it looked negative. I looked a few minutes later and there was a pretty strong line. I know there can be evaporation lines. Has anyone here ever had a strong evaporation line but not been pregnant? It is still early (I dont think I have missed a period yet).  |

An evaporation line won't show up until at least half an hour later. Anything sooner, and it's a positive. Did you wait 3-5 mins before reading it? |

are we talking a few minutes as in like 3-4 minute later or like 2 hours later?
cause 3-4 minutes later I would say is a positive...but go take a picture of the test...or compare it with the ones at peeonastick.com

I was thinking that evap lines were pretty lite...and not necessarily where you would expect a line to be.

the test directions usually say do not look after 10min however you might want to pee again. for me my ++ showed up immidietly. |

I'd test again just to give yourself peace of mind.
I took a test once and got a really positive line after about 10 minutes, and it turned out that there was a recall on that brand of test because it produced such results in their evap lines.
Or if you are funny like me you can check out peeonastick.com and see what they say about the brand of test you took. If that brand has a history of strong evap lines, the site will know about it |

Sounds like a positive to me. I have seen evap lines (I pee on WAY to many sticks) and they are very very light. You REALLY have to look hard. |

I had an evaporation line and it was sooooo faint that I thought I was imagining it. Like others have said I would retest tomorrow morning with your first morning pee.

well, I hope it's whatever you want it to be, but in my experience, that's not necessarily a positive. An incomplete line that shows up more than 10 minutes later definitely could be an evaporation line and I've had one just like that. When I've had positives, the lines have shown up immediately - even when it was before my period was due.
But it could also be a positive! So retest in a couple days |

That's exactly what mine looked like too. I was so mad because I knew it was a positive but dh wouldn't believe me for a few more weeks until it got stronger. Really sucks when you know your pg and no one believes you. |

Looks to me like it's positive, even if it was 15 minutes later! That's what mine looked like with my dd....and it was a little later to show up on the stick than the 3-5 minutes they suggest!!
Go take another test!!!!  You should get the same result...and maybe watch it/time it to see how long before the other faint line shows up! |

P.s. my line took a while to show up too, but it looked exactly like that and it was positive! I took 4 more tests to be sure (two at home and two at the doctor's office) and they all looked faint like that one... My doc said you can often get false negatives but very very rarely get false positives so she congratulated me! |

OMG! This is crazy! Hmm... I dont know if I should go take a test now, but it is the end of the day and I doubt much hormone will be left, or if I should just wait until tomorrow morning first thing?? I only have ONE test, so if I take one now and it is negative, then I wont be able to test again until tomorrow sometime, not first thing in the morning. |

When are you expecting your period???? Sometimes hormones aren't strong enough to show before the first day you should have your next period and it might have been out of luck that it showed on the first one. i'd still say it was positive though. Wait a few days and try again, or try another brand now. Other option is to go to the doctor...
Not to be intrusive but is this a planned and wanted pregnancy??? (and I don't mean "cosmoplanned" hiiihihiihi). If so, please just relax and try to take it easy... as long as you don't start bleeding the wait isn't over
ETA: I gave my doctor a quick call (she's a good friend and have her on speed dial now that I'm pregnant) and she said evaporation lines DO NOT show up on to the surface of the test strip, they are covered by a white layer and therefore look like they are behind vellum. She says anything that shows up on the top and actually becomes like a line is a trace of hormones... She would suggest it was positive... Take another test. |

ddbanjo, I'd wait a couple more days and take another one. Don't lose hope. I know that with my last pregnancy I took test after test just knowing I was pregnant and didn't end up with a positive until almost 10 days past when my period should have began. |

Thanks to everyone for their responses! We have two kids- took us forever to get pregnant with them. This would be a huge surprise, bit a good one! This is tmi, but if I am preggo, I am living proof that you can get knocked up using the pull out methodand having sex when you are not ovulating! I think my last period was about 3-4 weeks ago, closer to 4 |

I took a test on Christmas- nothing. I thought it was weird because of how I felt. I threw out the test but looked at it 30 min. later and there was barely a line there (like yours). The next morning I took another test, I could barely see a hint of blue.
Took it a week later and it was a big fat positive. LOL!

took a more sensitive test this afternoon-different brand, faint line after 15 minutes! So faint you have to strain to see it! I am in denial...will be shocked if I am pregnant! |

Listen girl ... You can get pregnant while having your period since sperm stays alive for several days after you have sex! So anything that isn't a condom, or some serious birth control isn't protection at all!...
Also... Chances that you had two evaporation lines on two different tests, of two different brands and in the same cycle, well that's just ridiculous You are pregnant! Go to the doc and get some blood tests... |

As someone who knows way more than she ever wanted to about pregnancy tests, I'd suggest going to get a First Response Early Response test, or at the very least a non blue dye tests.
Blue dye tests are notorious for very believeable looking evap lines. I've peed a whole lot of sticks during my ttc journey and my only evaps were on blue dye tests like those. |

I also recommend First Response tests. I got those faint lines for DAYS including before and after my FR test and even on the same day a few hours earlier. I took my FR test and I got information almost immediately. | |

There are those digital tests that say either pregnant or not pregnant very clearly so there is no mistakes. That is what I tried because my tests with the lines always started out like yours-faint line. It drove me crazy. |

I took an EPT mid afternoon with dd. No line, so I threw it away. But in my ttc obsessiveness, I took it out of the trash about an hour later. There was a white line where the + line would have been. So I took another EPT the next morning with first morning urine. Same thing. Still not convinced, I made dh stop at the store at 9:30pm and I got a First Response. Took it around 10:00pm and got a light but clear purple line. DD arrived 9 months later.

Awww, I'm excited for you! I had a test look likes yours too, never heard of an evaporation line, or else I would have been *way* disapppointed. I thought I was imagining the line there, since I wanted it sooooo bad. Well, he's 5 1/2 yr old now.
Other pregnancies I used the pregnant/not pregnant tests. Took a LOT of anxiety out of it for me! |

I must say though that the past 2 TARGET tests had an evaporation lines. They suck - they should have been negative but I got that line on two tests. So needless to say I was excited and then took a First Response and it was clearly negative.
Pee on a Stick is a good website for test comparisons.
There is a Trying to Conceive website I go to and others have had the same issue with Target brand. | |

i had an evap line with my ds, but it was a true evap line, totally white. this is not what i have seen as evap lines when i was heavy into TTC. this looks totally positive to me. Congrats! |

Took the FRER test today and it was negative. Total bummer! It sucks that those cheap tests gave me 3 borderline positive results. It is all over the internet that they are known for that. Oh well Thanks to everybody for goign through this with me. |
