That is really sad. But I guess it shouldn't be a shock with the current economy. And I haven't been very happy with these publications lately. |

That's really a shame. I know CK hasn't been that great lately, but it seems like they are turning around the last couple months. |

It is sad. Scrapbook Update just posted an article about this tonight. You can read it here: CK Media article |

I just emailed and this is the response I got:
"I have three invoices in the system totaling $495. You will be getting a letter this week explaining your options. "
Um, my option is to have you pay me.... |

I just asked my friend (a store owner) and she pays a lot more than $150 a month to advertise her store. There was never a deal for $150 offered to her and she's been a customer listed in their magazines for at least 5 years now. She said it keeps going up even though there are fewer magazines where her name is published.
I read on another board that some scrapper is owed over $1000. You know, once it got to be so much, I'd stop contributing. I don't work for free and if the agreement is these people get paid cold hard cash for their pages (good or not) then they should get the money.
The article mentions the creditors taking cents on the dollar to erase the debt - whats being offered the scrappers that are owed money? Will that be outlined in the 'details'?
I'd love to cancel my subscription now.

Nice.
I've been boycotting CK since the HOF drama, decided to sub again with their 2 for 1 deal and then this.......
Ugh. Should have stuck to my guns. I guess there goes my 25bucks. They sure cashed that baby fast. Still no issue though. We'll see.

Okay, I agree...but I'm a pollyanna...
At least they are taking reponsiblity and trying to get the people that owe them money to pay so that they can pay their own bills. They should pay everyone for submission and well as any other debts.
Having to restrucrture is not always a bad thing. Hopefully, this will lead to a healthier more stable CKMedia. CKmedia is so huge that if it went under it would send ripples throughout the scrapbooking community. There are a lot of good people working for CKmedia and I hope we will be praying of all of them.
Sorry, my pollyanna view. |

When last Fall there started to be threads in the Pub about CK being behind on their payments, I knew something was amiss. It reminded me of the PaperKuts situation from 4 years ago. With the HOF fiasco in '07 and recently the P365 fiasco, they had a deep hole to work out of. Also, their magazine has become really thin in the last year. While I wish no one to go out of business, that is a lot of debt that they have on their hands. I've also noticed on their website that a lot of their books/products are on sale. |

If you are a creditor of CK and are or have been contacted by CRG, I'd be very interested to hear from you as I work more on this story, no names will be used. scrapbookupdate@gmail.com - Thanks.
To clarify where the calculation came from in the article about the advertising revenue, CK was offering a variety of rates at CHA last month. $150 was the *minimum* you could pay just to get a listing in the store directory for one month in just Creating Keepsakes Magazine. If you wanted the other magazines as well, or to be included in the directory on their website, they offered packages that cost more that included all of that.
I used the $150 number in the article's calculation because it was the only one that pertained just to Creating Keepsakes advertising, which was what I had counted up and was calculating from. There is no way to figure the actual financial loss to CK Media without knowing exactly what packages the missing advertisers had purchased from CK - the article is only making an estimate of a minimum of the advertising revenue that they have lost. |

I wish I had seen this yesterday before I signed up for CKC Buffalo and gave them $150- what are the chances they are going to last until June??
I've been so busy lately that I have neglected the boards.
I thought something was fishy when they offered us a VIP pass to sign up a day early.
I hope that this company helps them and can turn it around- I've been wondering how long it would last until the economy hit the crafts arena- would be the first to go if I lost my job.

Wow. I was going to renew my CK sub last week with a credit card. Something told me to check the box marked 'bill me.' I'm glad I did.
This is a very sad situation. CK is the first scrap magazine I ever subscribed to. I hope people receive compensation for their projects. |

I can't believe they would collect fees for Conventions and then not pay the teachers. That is inexcusable.
