I've been on two other scrapbook sights today, and they're talking about it. I imagine there will be a little tension in the air at the event.
Really? Cool! I'm telling you, never, ever underestimate the Power of the Peas! We do good work  .
And what tickles me even more is the timing of this debacle - the fact that this is the hot topic of the industry on National Scrapbooking Day/Weekend means that the number of people who are currently discussing this at their LSS's and crop tables is now tenfold. Really, the timing is the bigger part of the what goes around, comes around karma thing that DoubleD is now experiencing as fall out from the way this has been handled.
My hope is that the same number of people talking about this are also offering positive thoughts and prayers for our friend pe@ce. Knowing scrapbookers, I'm pretty sure they are! | |

i made a mistake, yes, bad business...it is not the way i run my company, nor the way i want to run my company.
i wish i could just walk away from the computer but it is like watching a train wreck and i am in the train.
i refunded sharon long before i posted. (not that that matters, but just because it was what most of the comments on the board reflected) i spent most of the day responding personally to emails trying to address each persons concern.
it didnt take 10 hours, but yes longer than it should.
but it is not about the refund,
i get that it is about compassion.
i get that to.
i know this needs to play out, but i just wanted you to know.

How much does she think the OP is hurting- has been hurting since her diagnosis? I'm sorry- but the refund should have been issued immediately with no hesitation and an abundance of well wishes for the OP's future.
Good to know DD doesn't care if we buy her products. I sure won't be, anymore. I've been a big fan, for a long time. I wasn't crazy about the ego and the self-importance, but I liked her products and ideas. I thought while she hadn't escaped the 'scrap celeb VIP' mindset - at least we hadn't heard of anything too bad from her camp.
This takes the cake though. I'd not be able to look at a book, an article, a product without thinking "That cold and heartless woman..." Attack on her character?

You know I used to feel bad because it seemed like after an initial "We heart DD she's one of the scrap celebs!" blitz she was kind or relegated to Scrap Siberia and rarely featured by the then-big-stars in the scrap world.
Now, it's kind of starting to make sense.
If that's the attitude behind the business - we'll pass.
Doing the right thing to save your a#$ PR wise is not nearly the same thing as doing the right thing from the get-go.
I do understand a business and initially opened this thread assuming I would agree with the business side ("hey we have costs here too" but to read about DDs own policies and then combine them with no resale of the tickets? Um. No.
I'm glad it all worked out for OP and I wish her well on her recovery.
As for DD - your family is beautiful but I will never look at or think about YOU the same way again. And when a product association gives me a bad feeling, I tend not to buy it. I also tend to share that with the publications who do. He@# I'm sitting here with the sinking realization that I feel less warm about some other "famous scrappers" because THEY are friends with you. (I'm sure that will pass).

DD did you learn NOTHING from the CK fiasco? That at some point you can be a business or you can be "just one of the gals" but you can't play both ways?
Seriously, say what you want about Walmart but even with daily WM hate here we have not, to my knowledge, ever had a member of the Walton family come here to cry about how they are only HUMAN after all and they have FEELINGS and they don't even care if you buy their products SO THERE!
Good grief people, get yourselves down to a basic business course down at community college or something because I can't believe an industry could be this rife with people who have no clue how to handle PR or that people will value their money over some random warm and fuzzy "theory" (in absence of any reality) that you are their best bud and you're all just friends here (but please read the fine print 'cause your "friend" won't refund your money for anything including but not limited to Nuclear War okay? Hugs!)
As for Ms. "unless you have eye cancer" I can only hope that participants on that board have identified who they are when they attend IRL and that she gets her due - which is shunning, short shrift, and a group of very cold shoulders.
People need to learn that MBs are not your alternate version SIM life and that the internet is so much a part of real life that what you say and DO does reflect on who you are offline too. | |

What a huge clusterf*ck.
First, Sharon (pe@ce) - you have handled this situation with pure grace. You are obviously a very sweet and empathetic person because in the middle of this stress, you still thought about Donna's feelings. I am praying along with all of the other peas for your surgery.
Second, Donna. Wow. I had typed up a long post about disappointment but screw it. As another poster said so eloquently - you really screwed the pooch. Then you stood by and watched Kandi and Marissa screw the pooch even further. They both owe Sharon a heartfelt apology. There should at least be a public denouncement of both of these people from you. By keeping silent (or the lame "that wasn't helpful" ) about their comments says that you still don't get it at ALL.
One more thing - originally this was about business, but YOU have made it personal. Like others have said, just like Heidi and just like Stacy. All of you has taken a business issue and turned it into a huge mess, then got personal with it. It's bad business and it's bad personal ethics.

Donna, this IS about your character, or lack of it. No one has commented on your kids or husband or your looks. We haven't called you a bad cook or lousy housekeeper. No one has called your products ugly or cheap. The comments have been reactions to your ACTIONS and your WORDS, expressions of your character. We only know the character your show us. Right now that isn't so hot.
Telling members of the most vocal message board around that you don't care if we buy your products is just plain stupid. Hint, Business 101 says if you want to make money you want people to buy your stuff.
When you aplogized and said you had refunded Sharon's money on page 6 I was one of the first to say you did the right thing. Now I'm embarrassed to have given you that much credit. | |

Oh My Heavens, I was reading all last night and had to go to bed, then woke up this morning and opened Two Peas again, and have been reading all day. I just love Two Peas, but this is the far best thread I have read. You girls are something else, very close knit and I love it and how you are all showing your love for Sharon. A few times I got a little emotional just reading this. And then when Mellypea came on and said what she said, it got to me.Way to go Two Peas and Two Peas girls.

What's chapping me now is that apparently DD & co are accusing Sharon of lying (saying she's coming to post here before trying to address the problem with them first.)

I saw that Kandi said I posted this before hearing from anyone on their side. I feel it necessary to say that is untrue. I feel like my character is at stake there. I tried to resolve this and I have 3 emails from her prior to me posting anything. I didn't have a phone number so I emailed. And that's where it started.

I just finished reading all 13 pages of this. I'm shocked and disgusted at how this all played out. (no, Kandi, I really didn't have anything better to do at the moment so I guess I'm a busybody too)
dd, I don't understand for one second how you could not have immediately done the right thing by Sharon (or karen) That should have been an immediate HUMAN response, and second, a good business response. This woman has cancer! Cancer! In her sinuses, close to her brain and eyes. Good Lord, woman, if that is not enough to stir some compassion in you, you are a lost cause.
Yes, I read where you eventually refunded her money. Along with bashing those of this site who were demanding it and standing up for her after you got this woman to apologize to YOU?
**Kandi needs to go, or at the very least, post a heartfelt apology.
**This eye cancer response person should be publicly reprimanded. An apology to the OP from her wouldn't be out of line either.

I sure am scared about Tuesday. I will surely let you know how I am after the surgery. I am supposed to be hospitalized for a couple of days. I do try to keep it all in perspective and realize there are people out there with much sadder tales. I get to fight my cancer. So thank you. All of you!

And second, to MellyPea -- now that is some kind of nice but also great PR. I this place!
dd...stop texting... seriously. I get that its a PITA to hit the shift button to text - got it. Use the computer next time, kay?
dd - your snippy comment about already refunding the money above isn't helping - we're all reading this stuff! To me you sent a reply "well, how do you know I didn't refund her" with a repeat of your first cut & paste (I guess just in case I didn't read the poor me e-mail the first time, though let's be honest, you just pulled up a previous e-mail and tagged your reply onto it cuz making a new e-mail was SOOOO time consuming, what with running your cheerful child employment agency LOL $600 for an event and I get a book made by your kids? It simply boggles the mind).
You could have sent a generic "the refund has been sent to Sharon" (umm not Karen - yes, we saw that gaff before you corrected it - must be SOOO hard to be heartfelt sincere when you can't remember a name being shouted at you from every direction, but I digress). Instead you resorted to that "so there, who cares" mentality of the crash&burn celebs before you.
dd ... this is BAD PR! In fact, its a freaking PR nightmare and yet you just can't seem to stop the rudeness and find empathy and SINCERITY.

I want to offer an apology to all of you. After reading the posts last night, I went into "defense" mode and lashed out. I shouldn't have done that and I didn't mean to be hurtful to anyone.

This has got to be some of the worst PR I have ever seen. If you want others to take you seriously and treat you as a professional, then you have to act like one.
If it were me, I think I would be checking the classifieds in tomorrow's paper cause I think you might need to look at getting a new job. | |
