Sharon - My thought will be with you on Tuesday. Glad you *finally* got a refund.

DD/Kandi - There simply are no words.

I've never made a purchase from 2Peas - I'm going to go find something right now! Like other's have said, great customer service reaps benefits.

Cara - those questions have been asked for a solid 16 pages on this thread without any answers.

There is conjecture that it allows a practice of "double-dipping" where the original ticket holder is charged, not allowed a refund, and the opening is then charged again to a new person.

THAT has been the only answer even suggested for 16 pages.... so far.

SOME people, ->DONNA<- , are very slow to pick up these subtle clues we've been leaving.

I'll go one further and say that not allowing refunds under any condition for an event where tickets are sold almost a year out is NOT strange. It is deliberate.

If the tickets were sold the same day as the event, a small percentage would suddenly not be able to go.

The further out the purchase of the tickets from the event itself, the higher the percentage rises of those who will not be able to attend due to serious obstacles...... such as sinus cancer.

To pretend that these occurances will not happen is either make believe or deliberate deception.

How's that for my 2 cents worth?

If PC is the way to get to Heaven, I'm going straight to Hell.

I don't quite know what to say.

Thanks again. Thanks just doesn't seem to be able to sum it up for me. I feel like I am in a bizzaro world alternate universe. The bad part would of course be the cancer crap- but the incredible awesome part is this outpouring of support. The kindness you have all shown me. I am touched beyond all comprehension. I read every post. I find myself thinking "oh, that sucks" and then remembering "oh, that's me!" lol

Melly-you're a doll. A goodie bag is thoughtful and kind and unnecessary. I'm SO stoked that peas thanked you by shopping!!!! That is freakin' awesome! That makes it all better!

I'm still here. Still reading. And still saying thank you all!!

Whew! What a thread!

I have a question that I didn't see answered....why the policy that you cannot transfer or sell your ticket to someone else? Seeing that they sell the tickets so far in advance that rule is strange. I just don't see a reason for the policy...can someone tell me?

I can't think of any event that I could buy tickets for that I couldn't sell or give away if I couldn't use them. Why is this event different?

I have another to add. Why is there a need for a wait list if there are no refunds or transfers? Is it to double dip when somebody says they can't make it?

Jac-

Excellent recap of key posts!

I would add my 2cents.. late I know....

I teach Customer Service Courses... DD or Kandi, let me know if you would like to attend one.. I would be happy to assist you.. for free!!

One of the things that I teach is a technique for resolving customer complaints.

Step 1: LISTEN Stop doing anything else and fully concentrate on the person who is complaining.

Step 2: APOLOGIZE if for nothing else the inconvenience that the customer experienced or that they had an issue at all.

Step 3: SOLVE Agree to a solution with the customer. If you come to a resolution and the customer does not agree to it... ( Which is exactly what happened in this situation!) you are creating a bigger problem! (in your case 45,000 hits on a twopeas thread!)

Step 4: THANK Thank the customer for giving you the chance to fix the problem.

If you just do those four things... think LAST.. your customer service will improve significantly!

Step 5: Action the request

Step 6: FOLLOW UP: With any staff you asked to action the request and finally with the customer themselves. (HINT Make sure Kandi or whomever has PROCESSED the refund and sent the kits... Then follow up with Sharon to make sure that she has indeed recieved the refund and the kits!)

At this point a nice letter thanking Sharon for her good will, she used amazing restraint IMHO, and wishing her a speedy recovery would probably go along away in smoothing some feathers!

Another thing to think of...

When complaining...

95% will do business with you again if you handle their complaint right away.
50% of people who complain walk away dissatisfied and will NEVER do business with your company again.

If you agree to a solution with the customer.. you will not lose 50% of your customers who complain.. for life!

On average a customer who has a bad experience tells 9 people who each tell another 5 people with the potential loss of 55 customers, when you add the internet you multiply that expontientaly.

45.000 hits on this thread alone.. and how many other message boards have picked this up.... how many times has it been cut and pasted around the web, or blogged about, or twittered about? Is it on Facebook???

I am serious.. you and your staff need customer service training.. I am happy to help you with it!

I go away for a few days and this happens. I knew not to do that.

To the OP-I wish you a speedy recovery.

As far as Donna goes, even with the apology, I will not be spending any of my money on her shit again.

First off: Sharon, all the best to you and a quick recovery. I'll be thinking of you on Tuesday.

I've read the entire thread over the last couple of days. I told DH at dinner last night, "I just watched a scrapbooking business go out of business today".

Donna, you suck. And you blew it. I don't scrap anymore, but if I did I sure wouldn't be buying anything associated with your company.

Mellypea, you done good.

I didn't want to read and run, I heard about this at my local scrapbook store in the UK and came on to read about it.

Wishing you a speedy recovery pe@ce and good wishes for Tuesday, I will be one of the many that will be thinking of you.

And Donna, there is only one word I can think of. Fail. I had recently enquired about how I could get hold of some of your products over here, I've just emailed the retailer and told them not to try and source it for me, I cannot in good conscience buy products from someone who has such little regard for their customers.

My, you peas are quite something aren't you.....well done all of you for your compassion & support for a fellow pea.
As for DD, just thought she's like to know that the hole she's dug herself in to has now reached the UK...... way to go Donna, just go global !!!!!!
A truly disgusting way to carry out a business. I'll be able to manage quite well without your products thanks and I would imagine a lot of fellow UK scrapbookers/crafters too after reading what's gone on here!!!

Sharon, I'm so sorry you are dealing with so much right now and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I have been keeping up with this thread, and wanted to really think about it before posting. First of all, Sharon, know that on Tuesday you have alot of people sending prayers and good wishes your way. I hope this will be of some small comfort to you. As for DD, I have tried to "put myself in her shoes" so to speak, and however I look at it, it was just plain wrong. This whole thing could have been avoided if at the very least she just let Sharon sell her spot... she would have lost NOTHING! Why this was not done right away is still a mystery to me. I did like DD, and tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but when human kindness is tossed to the curb, it shows a persons true colors. As far as expenses already being paid for such as supplies and teachers... NOT HOW YOU RUN A BUSINESS DONNA! Those expenses should be paid for from the business, and then you recoup your costs AFTER the event takes place. If you cannot afford to do this, it's simple, you don't have the event! The burden of these expenses should NOT be put on the customer. It is NOT their responsibility. What if one of the teachers can't make it? Do they still get paid? And since when do you get paid BEFORE you actually do the job? And if the event is cancelled you don't get a refund? It needs to be all about the money, money, money... don't you know yet Donna... people should come BEFORE money? This is just me, but I would NEVER pay $545 for Inspired, she might be good, but not over 1/2 a grand good! I know that if this was my business, and I didn't help Sharon out right away, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Making it right only after public outcry is so transparent and insincere. I'm glad she "doesn't care" if we don't buy her products... (what an intelligent and business-like remark Donna) cause that's what's going to happen. So goodbye Donna, to your products and your blog. I hope someday you will figure out how to be a decent human being, without others "forcing" you to do so.

So true!! definitely a double dip!!!

Donna should have given Sharon a refund AND sent her the projects so she can do them while on the road to recovery. But that is a whole 'nother thread!

Sharon- May you be blessed with good health after your surgery. Prayers to you and your family. Will be thinking of you on Tuesday.

Has anyone mentioned the thread in GS that someone BTT from February, where a woman was posting to sell her spot at Inspire?
She was told by Mr. Donna in February that she could sell her spot, no problem. I'm pretty sure she didn't even have a health crisis going on.

Sharon, prayers and hugs for what you're going through. You and your family will be in my prayers on Tuesday.

As for DD, I'll agree with the others. The right thing came way too late and under loads of pressure. I do not believe it was done because you "get it". I will not be buying anything DD.

Phew, finally made it to the end.

Sharon, best wishes to you for a successful surgery and recovery.

Melly, Awesome response and customer service.

I am so incredibly disappointed in Donna Downey. Back when I used to scrap, she was one of my favorites. She seemed so friendly and down to earth, and I loved her style. Now she is just a brand name. Oh, but we are supposed to worry about her feelings when she just tried to roll over someone who is about to have cancer surgery. Sickening.

I was trying to tell my mother and sisters about this situation this morning, and when you talk about those DD posts out loud, it sounds even more bizarre. Maybe DD should just come and say she was drunk when she made the "ok that's not going to help, round 2 bring it on" comment because that's the only way any of this crap makes sense. My mom scraps, but she doesn't know anything at all about "scrap celebs" and she was just astounded by what I was telling her.

I noticed. I posted this...

I read somewhere on this thread that there is a waiting list.

So, DD gets the $ of someone who can't come b/c they have cancer and have to have surgery AND she gets the $ of whoever fills her spot?

Oh my.

Somehow I missed that fact, too, despite 2GirlsMama pointing it out on page 4! lol

But that is def. puzzling. If there's no way, no how that anyone gets out of their ticket, why is there a waiting list? I can't imagine a better reason to get out of your ticket than having surgery due to cancer...so what is that wait list for?

I also think it's interesting that another attendee was allowed to sell her spot back in Feb., per Donna's DH who is also part of her company (I think someone said he's the CEO? I may be wrong.). It makes me wonder if all of this wouldn't have happened had he been the one to get Sharon's email instead of Kandi. Sounds like he recognizes that there are times when the policy needs to be scrapped (no pun intended!).

That's what I was wondering. If Kandi was told no refunds or transfers, then she probably was just doing what she was told and didn't have the authority to make that decision (either way). BUT, she should have forwarded the emails to Donna or her husband so they could have final say.

Ren,

That's making Kandi too easy of a scapegoat.

DD contacted Sharon after the cr@p hit the fan. She told Sharon No refunds. The money has been spent. Yada, Yada. The blame lies squarely on the shoulders of DD.

What really chaps my hide is the fact that DD would have kept Sharon's money due to a really bad policy. She obviously felt that a call from her highness itself should have been enough honor. She would have then resold that spot from the Wait List. Don't ya just love that one? Greed, at it's finest.

And, then to have the nerve to blame Sharon for venting to us. That it created this unnecessary brouhaha. When it took these events to get DD & co to do the right thing.

I really liked what another poster wrote about 'doing the right thing when no one is looking.' So, true. Instead, DD sees this is going to cost her & she starts looking out for herself and her bottom line.

Disgusting beyond belief.

Oddly enough, I'd heard often enough about DD's character. Boy, did she ever prove that information true with this fiasco.

When people show you who they are, believe them.--Maya Angelou

Love that quote. How fitting.

I was doing the math on another thread and finally figured out that 500 attendees at $545 a pop comes out to $272,500. No matter how much her supplies cost (and with her children making the notebooks for the class) she is making bank on this event. Not to mention, say she has only 20 people who can't make it and "waiting list" people get in, that's another $10,900 she pockets on TOP of the 272,500.

Now how much will all of this bad publicity cost her, all over $545???

I just wanted to quickly add that I did receive a heartfelt apology from Kandi. She was very kind & I believe sincere in her email and she is- like all of us- human, too. I thought you should all know.

I have just caught up on this thread as I hadn't been back since I first posted my second "glad Donna got it' comment earlier on.

Guess it seems like it was a little premature. That's sad.

I am glad to see that Kandi also apologized.

You know, I like to believe that despite the mistakes people make, I think most people are fundamentally are good inside. Make horrible, shitty mistakes..and hopefully learn from them. Sometimes, the chips have to lay where they fall though, and those are the consequences you must suffer.

I just hope, perhaps that the families who depend on these businesses aren't affected too badly because of fallout. I admit that is what always tears me up. Too many business going under these days. I hope that for Donna's family's sake, she can turn this around some day.

You are way gracious despite your troubles, Sharon. I admire that so much. God bless and keep you and we will be praying for you on Tuesday.

That's making Kandi too easy of a scapegoat.

Oh I'm not defending DD in any way, nor am I placing blame on Kandi. I'm just trying to figure out why it came to the point of Sharon hitting a brick wall with DD & company and not communicating with higher ups. She only got a response from DD when she posted here and peas came to her defense, and that's a pitiful way to run a company.

I mistakenly said there were 500 attendees. I was wrong. There are only 250.

message boards have a way of creating larger than life problems from ones that are simply solved.
- Quote from DD

Yes Dear, but they also have a way of exposing many injustices. And IMO, "injustice" barely touches on the shamefulness of your actions.

At least Kandi wrote what Pe@ce has taken as a sincere apology. I look forward to the up-date when we hear that Donna has done the same, given the 'hands on' role she has played in this situation.

I'm glad pe@ce was able to get her refund.

Unfortunately for DD, too little, too late to salvage my opinion. Not that she cares about my opinion, but I can't imagine I'm alone.

The sack of bricks comment - welcome to NSBR honey. Enjoy your stay.

Now now, AN...don't be such a bitter heifer. You're taking the words right out of my mouth!

Crap on a cracker. This post absolutely does have it all. Isn't that a WW troll above me? If not, my apologies but I am pretty sure that's her.

ETA: Oops. Forgive me. I think I am wrong about the WW post. I realize that I think her name was Melissa? Sorry.

BTW, with the new figure of 250 attendees that still brings DD total admission fees to $136,000 which is more than dh and I make in a full year and even if the event cost $100,000 she is still making a nice chunk of change for a weekend plus prep time.

All this really makes me sad for the other teachers involved in the {un}Inspired event. I hope they do not suffer for their association.

And the snarky side of me wishes to say that this whole drama gives new meaning to the term "hell week", as DD said on her blog.

I noticed. I posted this...

I read somewhere on this thread that there is a waiting list.

So, DD gets the $ of someone who can't come b/c they have cancer and have to have surgery AND she gets the $ of whoever fills her spot?

Oh my.

back on page 4.

My apologies and credit should go where credit is due.

Sharon, still praying for a speedy and 100% successful recovery

Well its all over the UK scrap boards now ....

Sharon - wishing you good luck for your surgery. I hope you recover more quickly from the surgery than you do from the 'unkindnesses' that you've received from DD & Co.

Like others, I won't be purchasing any of her products. EVER.
