I mean, you think it would have clicked before she called her the first time...kwim

Exactly. She came on here and said she was going to be calling, making it sound like she was going to clear things up, and had obviously had to have read what EVERYONE was saying and thinking and STILL didn't budge.

I'm sorry....

I have tried to keep my mouth shut. But I can't do it any longer.

Now, I want Sharon to get well. I am praying for her. I think a refund in this situation was a good decision. It is ultimately what I would do.

HOWEVER.

I still think you are all being far too hard on Donna Downey.

As much as you don't want to hear it, LOTS of people would make the initial decision that 'rules are rules.'

As I have tried to state, and people have not wanted to listen, I have been in charge of a program where we have refunded a measly $5-$20 on compassionate grounds and other program participants have thrown HUGE fits over it. I am talking things like a kid having to move due to the DEATH OF A PARENT.

Sometimes you are d@mned if you do and d@mned if you don't.

Donna has stated that she has learned something from this situation.

Demonstrate some of the g@dd@mned humanity you demanded from her and give her a chance, fgs. Sometimes, HUMAN BEINGS SCREW UP!!!! Decent people forgive them and LET. IT. GO.

There is no reason this danged thread needed to be 18 pages.

If the post had been

i regret and am truly sorry i didn't take the time or make the effort to listen and remember that compassion goes a long way.
and finished with "I offer my sinceriest apologies to the person affected"
and left out the other crap, I might have bought it. But the way she wrote it, it seems like we rallied to her instead of against. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth

Seriously ladies - Can the Donna bashing stop. The situtation is between Peace and Donna and it appears to have been resolved. The whole thing was a sad situation - Her diagnosis, the customer service - but people make mistakes and move forward. It is a shame how things blow up on message boards like these and take a life of their own.

Peace - Many prayers for a speedy recovery and healthly future. Best of luck to you. You don't need anymore stress to deter your recovery!!

It wouldn't have been if the tone of her messages hadn't been what they were...if Kandi hadn't chimed in etc.

It was all in the way she handled it.It was also damaging that there were other posts where they had let someone sell their spot.

Tania, I think you a little too invested. We get it. I just think she didn't have to write things like she didn't care if we bought her products.

It was just unproffessional. For the amount of money venders and other scrapbookers invest in her it would have been wise to have someone to deal with that kind of thing...not Kandi coming in here and going batshit crazy on us.

seriously, get a clue.
You've been cheerleading dd since your first post - go on dd's blog and share it, they'll cheerlead right behind you there!
dd screwed up, major league and didn't do right until she realized the hit her BUSINESS was going to take. Its money, pure and simple.

dd is now very busy deleting her blog responses that dare mention 2peas or this thread and what the problem was. Remember her blog post is all about lesson learning, believing, creating, inspiring - or something fuzzy like that. Like I said earlier, she has the chance now to redeem -- but considering the UK stunts she pulled is now getting airplay, she has an uphill battle on the other side of the pond too. That delete button will be worn out!

There is no reason for it not to be either, it's just women voicing their opinions, which they are entitled to do. I love how 2peas and the peas now speak up when they feel a need. I don't think a few people telling us to be quiet and sit in the corner works anymore.

Tania, Look, I get what you are saying, maybe better than some. I too am on a sports board of directors. We have to make decisions that other people do not like. However, that's part of what you agree to when you step up and volunteer to be on a board. You need to grow thicker skin if those small things make you so upset.

As for DD, she made her bed and it is now beyond her control. And yours, Tania. If you get this upset about a woman who has done this to her own company then maybe YOU shouldn't post to these threads.

It isn't about cheerleading.

I agree that refund should have been given in this situation, and I also agree it was not handled well.

That MarissaElliot person is a jerk, to put it nicely. We agree on that, too.

It's the need for this to still be a topic of discussion we don't agree on. I've never been a fan of beating dead horses. We get it. It was a bad decision.

I'm curious to see what happens tomorrow. There are a lot of peas who take the weekends off from peaing to spend the time with their families or whatever. I'd venture to say that the poop is really going to hit the fan on Monday when the weekday peas check back in. This is no-where near from over.

I think a lot of good has came out of this thread too though....there have been lots of prayers...good thoughts, etc sent Sharon's way...a sense of community, a what not to do lesson, and lots of people like Melly stepping up and going above and beyond.

I feel bad for DD.I think her undoing was that she didn't have a clear cut policy and a PR person which it sounds like your orgainzation has.

actually so far, you're one of like 3 that don't agree... the rest of us... well, we're pretty much in 2peas agreement

And honestly, now after reading how she conducted herself in the UK at an event there just confirms, FOR ME, that she's very self-centered (to the point she left a fellow instructor with insuffient supplies since she helped herself to them, and thought it was amusing). Maybe, JUST MAYBE, she needed this entier NSD disaster to remember how to be humble and APPRECIATIVE to her customer base.

Then again, that's me, and I speak even louder with my wallet (and trust me, my scrapbook room shows the damage my wallet can inflict! LOL!)

That is fair.

As much as anything, I was upset that to me it seemed like the focus was more on the negative than on sending Sharon positive energy.

And I agree with your last paragraph.

What our org finally did was state refunds could not be given until the spot was filled; because we have a waitlist it hasn't been a problem.

I got b@itched at for giving a child a medal w/o payment for it (we had to collect $5/child for the awards this year due to a budget shortfall - a donation we normally get didn't come through due to the recession) in the case I mentioned above, where the parent was dying and the family loved. BTW, I misspoke originally... dad had not yet passed; they moved to a bigger city for treatment, although he is pretty much terminal.

I just looked at the parent who was b@tching, said loudly enough to embarass her 'I'm SURE you don't begrudge a 7 yr old with a dying father a medal, and I am SURE you understand why the family has other things on their mind then remembering to bring in their $5. But just to be SURE everything is fair, I'm SURE you won't be upset that I'm GOING TO PERSONALLY PAY FOR LITTLE JOHNNY'S MEDAL.

Yeah, I can be a b@itch when I need to be.

So anyway, the only point I was trying to make is that people can get weird.

I didn't realize that "having a business hat on" negated the compassion of the human wearing it. Piss-poor excuse.

How about "I effed up. I made a very bad decision. I'm so very sorry."

Anything else said beyond that is meaningless.

Yeah, Tania a lot of this scrap celebs become popular so fast that they don't really make it is as much of a business as it needs to be dealing with that kind of money, vendors, etc.

I think a lot of the problem too is that their name and business become intertwined and it is hard to unmesh those things...they should have to wear a woman and a business hat...there should be employees for that...kwim.

It is sad but that seems to be the undoing for a lot of them lately. A creative person doesn't equal a business lady...kwim?

This is page 19... and I'm still reading page 16, but I wanted to add something I didn't add last night.

It was about not giving refunds no matter what.

I live in SE Texas. In the past 3 years alone, my house was hit with 3 hurricanes. 2 of them required complete evacuation of the area, power was out for 2-3 weeks and the area has been devastated. The 3rd merely knocked out power but our Internet service was down an entire week.

Evacuation brought a temporary move to the DFW area where I still am because my kids got settled into school here and HERE there is opportunity for them that they won't find right now back home. Here, my kids are now OUT OF SCHOOL from Thursday, April 30 until May 8 or 11 or whenever, because of several cases of Swine Flu.

In 1986, I bought tickets to a Simon & Garfunkel concert in Houston, Texas. It was a birthday present to myself and a big reunion concert. Hurricane Alicia slammed in instead. There was NO DIFFICULTY getting a complete refund. This was at a MAJOR stadium, so a complete refund of all tickets was an enormous outpaying.

A no refund for any reason clause can not be made in good conscience. SOMEBODY organized this event. The place where it is scheduled to be held - I'm sure that they have at least a partial refund written into their contract in case of situations that can not be forseen.

To be honest.... I am really surprised that no one, up to the point I am reading anyway, has mentioned the legality/illegality of that clause.

It could not stand up in court. Donna is liable and she could easily have been sued by Pe@ce..... she still can be.

1) A business is not about feeling good, it's about making money.

2) Customers are not your friends, they are people who have options of where to spend their hard-earned money.

3) When you arrange an enormous event such as this, you better have a good legal team approve anything in advance.

4) When your business is based completely on people's discretionary spending.... you had better go above and beyond to make them feel good about their purchases and the services that they receive.

5) Even the best-run business event is subject to current economics, disease outbreaks and weather-related events.

6) The Internet is real and it is a force to be reconned with, not put on ignore.

7) There must be policies in place to cover unforeseen complications in an event such as Inspired, both for the individuals involved and for the entire event altogether.

Donna has behaved completely unprofessionally. She has come on this board, on this very thread, and mocked the very people who are her customers and potential customers. She has baited us to "bring it" on and said that she doesn't care if we promote her business or buy her products.

Donna has so completely ended her business's Good Will that the tipping point has already come and gone.

I am so sorry Donna. I have enjoyed seeing your work for years. I know that you have helped many people scrapbook in a fun and easy way. If you never try anything, you can never fail. You tried and you have failed and this is going to really hurt. For that pain, I am not the only one that is concerned for you. You have been given many talents. Apparently running a business is not one of them. Now is the time to stand tall and behave in a professional manner WITH GOOD PR representing you so you can personally save something of your reputation, because your business is toast.

Nicely done! Ten Seconds Studio sells awesome metals and metal tools and their website has some really funny, informative videos. (and I am not, nor have I ever been, associated with this company==just giving a shout out for some good guys)

DD--You are from New Jersey. I am from Brooklyn--almost the same place. We now how to talk straight over there on the East Coast, how to say things clearly without a lot of extra touchy- feely, cute stuff about life lessons etc. It is not about some wonderful life lesson for you--it is about a women with cancer. Just come out and say I really messed up, made a horrible mistake and have done x, y and z to rectify it for this woman facing cancer. All the extra verbiage just makes you sound insincere (and removing the links to this thread proves it)

I'm shocked at how long this thread has become.
Like everyone else, I've been following along all weekend and think the well wishes, prayers and support you have, is fantastic.

Sharon, if support like this is all you need to kick this cancer, you sure have it here! Get plenty of rest and hope you can de-stress before Tuesday. Best wishes to you

From Donna's blog: "i responded to a situation with my business hat on when clearly i should have stopped and responded as a woman, wife and mother."

She still doesn't really understand good business practices and good PR. If she'd had a true business hat on, she'd have made it right the first time and made it right immediately. Instead she wore her greed hat. If she wants to regain her business, she needs to find someone to take over the business and PR sections and leave the creativity section to herself.

DD should try to get a refund on that "business hat" of hers because it apparently causes terminally bad judgement. Maybe the peas could help her get her money back or maybe they'll let her exchange it for a nice replica of the Hogwarts Sorting Hat. It could only be an improvement.

I think her "business hat" is made of tinfoil and she was communicating with her lawyers in outer space through it.

I had not seen this thread at all until it was epic...it made me sad that it took that for me to see it...so, the first thing I did was send a pmail to Pe@ce with prayers and good wishes. At the end of all this, that is what is most important - that this community is praying and coming together for her. As "nasty" a rep we can have here at the NSBR, we can be the most compassionate group...Gives me chills. The power of prayer is amazing...

As for DD, I don't think there really is anything that she can do at this point that will undo what has been done. Sure, we are all human and make mistakes...life will go on, we will move on...However, it will not be forgotten and MANY will speak with their wallets in the future. We have seen this with scrap "celebs" in the past. The economy being what it is right now, customer service is more important than ever.

I will not buy her product - which when enough of us speak this way, she WILL care. I won't actively go around bad mouthing her, but I will share this situation and my opinion when it comes up. Friends I have shared with already feel as I do. I do think her business will be hurt by her actions in regard to Pe@ce, but also the things she has said here...

When will the scrap "celebs" realize that when they are running a business they can NOT just say as they wish...They must remain professional no matter what they may be feeling. It is not about THEM, but about the customer. Even if the customer is a being a jack-hole (not even close to the case here), they have to remain professional and believe the customer is always right.

I think far too often in this industry it is all about money and ego. It really makes me wonder why I even bother with the industry at all...but then I remember that I love to create for my family, for me, for friends...So, I will continue to shop and buy from those that have done good...I will be book-marking Ten Seconds Studio for the future. I will also be shopping at Peas again when I have the cash. My boycott on shopping here has been on for years, but thanks to Melly - and her amazing service - I will shop here again. Kudos!

OMG! Donna is such a greedy self-centered person. Every time she writes, it shows her true character. I just can't believe she has follwers kiss kissing on her blog.

Oh wait, it is Margie that is kissing, the other self centered greedy person.

Sharon, I'm overwhelmed with all of our fellow pea support for you! You can count on me along with the rest of them to lift you up in prayer starting right now. Try to take one day at a time and try not to worry. I know it's hard! Hang in there and move on ahead and take care of yourself. Remember a positive attitude and lots of prayer makes a difference in fighting cancer. You can do it!

There is no reason this danged thread needed to be 18 pages.

This is what good business practice is all about! WTG Megan!

As for DD, no bashing, but I was going to sign up for a class she's doing in TX. Guess I (and a few of my friends) have other plans and will support that LSS with my $$ in other ways (wouldn't want them to suffer!)

Best wishes and prayers coming your way Sharon

I think the blog post was a great big PLEASE FEEL SORRY FOR ME.

I KNOW DD is at fault here...but .... how many ways must she say I am sorry, if she didn't publicly say something on the blog she would continue to be chastised. Now she puts something on the blog and it still isn't good enough. Everyone has made their point...justice was served. Now let's put all this energy into doing something good this week for a stranger.

ETA to read I am sorry

So I was scrapping tonight, using Cricut, and flipping through the Graphically Speaking booklet to find some words. On page 53, I came across "Who Cares?" This "situation" (Word choice ) was immediately what came to mind.

I wish that dd had immediately cared and showed compassion just as (nearly) all the Peas, Melly, Megan, and countless others have.

Sharon, I pray that God will guide your doctors and shower you with blessings as you fight and recover from this frightening and life altering disease.

how many ways must she say thank you

Not quite sure exactly what you meant by that..... but she only needed to say I'm sorry ONE way and she did not.

Somewhere.... I'm still backreading and it soon becomes confusing where ..... someone said Team Sharon.

Team Sharon.

I love that. Kathy and Sharon - with good guidance, would you be interested in forming your own business, or maybe even a product line?

Team Sharon. I'd buy from it.
