TEAM SHARON should at the very least have their very own product line.

As I previously stated upthread, IMHO the most important lesson for Donna Downey is that neither the world nor even the scrapbooking or mixed media industries revolve around HER! Her blog post linked above is yet another example (in addition to the ones contained in this thread) of her egotism in this "situation" (as well as the insistence of the industry's current "celebrities" to "Oprah" every moment)!

Sorry--I was unplugged for the weekend. Just got back.

First of all, I want credit for predicting way back on page 4 Kandi's appearance. Thankyouverymuch.

Second, I was sure DDs bizarro post about round 2/bring it on was a troll, b/c NO ONE in business can think that's OK. Arrogance at its worst.

Third, reminiscent of e e cummings, these lowercase posts.

Fourth, not everyone is a businessperson.

Fifth, thank you Melly.

And most importantly, prayers for Sharon to heal quickly.

OK. Newbie. This is how it works. If your post consists of 80% sanity, 10% stupidity and 10% all kinds of crazy, we immediately focus on the 20% b/c it discredits the 80%.

I still don't understand why dd couldn't refund the money at the start and claim the loss on insurance. Or taxes.

I run my own businesses in hospitality and there are the occasions when, even after much chasing, sometimes debt is written off. Cut your losses. For me it would be too small to warrant an insurance claim, but it sure gets put into the Loss pile for tax rebates!
Also, try positive customer service in hospitality when the client has had a few too many drinks and with an alcohol clouded mind insists he/she is right!!! Fun times. btdt.

dd is wrong in the way she dealt with this situation. Hopefully, she *will* learn the lesson. (She still has $$ rolling in but after the UNinspired event? Maybe not so much)

For now, I will pass dd over and send up prayers for Sharon and family that they see their miracle.
((((Hugs to ya, Sharon!!))))

Prayers for you Sharon. You are going to kick cancer's butt with all these people pulling for you.

I, like so many others, am disappointed in DD. I wanted her to apologize in a direct way, send Sharon all the projects with explicit directions, and THEN say....NEXT YEAR WHEN YOU HAVE RECOVERED please be our guest of honor without having to pay the fee and bring a friend too. And just to sweeten the deal throw in a personal project that Donna made specifically for Sharon to show that she is genuinely sorry.

Two Peas and Mely-you are classy for sending her something. Tensecondstudio-you are as well. Just like the dd thing..people remember. They will remember that you did something wonderful in the face of crappiness.

Finally, after 19 pages, I have the full story!

Team Sharon has another member! Sharon, bless your heart, be strong, be courageous. You have thousands of people in your corner! And millions of prayers have been said. I pray that you will be able to feel that when all else seems dark.

I am a small business owner. I know what it is to struggle, to make customers happy, to stay awake at night worrying how ends will meet. I also do NOT believe that a customer is always right. But, I also know what the right thing to do is, when it stares me in the face. No question, this entire situation was handled the wrong way, from Sharon's first email until today.

Donna, really, how could you have not acted with compassion? Chosen the decent thing first? Kept your mouth shut later? I know how difficult it is take make your own way, in an increasinly difficult economy. You disregarded one person and you cost yourself thousands of customers.

Donna, I will speak with my money. I will choose to avoid your products, your classes, and any company that chooses to continue to endorse you. You have shown yourself to be greedy, self absorbed, and lacking common human decency. Good bye old friend.

Color me unimpressed. The vague language ["situation"] suggests she's still not fully owning what she did [especially since "situation" is a synonym for "denied a cancer patient her first request for a refund"]

Anyone with half an ounce of business sense would know that it's good business to make the customer happy by remembering that they are someone's wife or mother. There's no need to split the business sense from the common sense.

But how fortunate that Sharon's whole upsetting "situation" was a gift from the universe to teach DD a lesson!

I find all the gobbledygook life lesson writing to be annoying, but that's just my opinion. To each her own in that regard.

She read each email and took away a valuable lesson? I find that hard to believe.

It's just tiresome to me and seems like obfuscating her callous actions with extraneous, fluffy New Age word fluff.

Nope. Not impressed with the vague and [what I consider to be] insincere, grasping at straws, CYA blog entry.

Too little. Too late. Too forced.

Ditto ALL the above

Wow, finally to the end of the this thread. Sharon, I wanted to wish you all the best for your surgery and recovery. I'm sending my love and hopes for strength through tomorrow and a positive and speedy recovery. You have shown such grace in all this. I do hope you aren't feeling bad about this whole kerfuffle - you did absolutely nothing wrong here, and all responsibility lies with Donna and her company.

I left a comment on her blog, but I'm not sure how long it'll last, so I'll copy it below too. I continue to be astounded at the narcissism of the woman and how she is still seemingly clueless about where she and Kandi went wrong. It's mindblowing really. Her blog post was yet again all about her and IMO a complete failure to plainly own her mistakes, make a full and humble apology and make restitution. Totally up her own arse. She disgusts me.

Could that non-apology be any more narcissistic? Poor, poor Donna. *retch*

You suggest you erred by responding in a business like fashion rather than emotionally. You clearly still do not have a clue. Your handling of the situation was *bad business*. Your inconsistency in granting transfers is *bad business*. Your placing blame on a customer going through an incredibly challenging and frightening health crisis is *bad business*. Your double dipping is *bad business*. Your trashing of customers online is *bad business*. Your statement that you don't care about people buying your product is *bad business*. Your refusal to show your customers the respect of using basic punctuation in business communications is *bad business*. Your policy of reserving the right to cancel the event at your end and not issue a cent in refunds to anyone is *bad business*. Your 'woe is me' pity party is *bad business*.

But hey, as long as you've been 'inspired' and 'strengthened' by the results of your shameful behaviour, it's all good, right?

You girls rock!! DD has a woe is me attitude and Im sorry but to those sticking up for her - she deserved everything she got /and gets.

This has spread to the uk, austrailia etc I wont be spending any money on anything associated with her and i think she probably wont come back from this - her whole attitude is damage control.

KAndi, Im glad you apologised but hell I think the only reason you posted was because (i think I read) you were the offending 'rules is rules' dummy in the first place.

Ive been in a position working in local govt where customer was receiving a tax discount based on the fact she was a student. she had to finish her course due to getting ME she didnt realise and it was our fault we didnt review for nearly 10 yrs that she shouldnt of. It came out. My boss did the rules is rules no matter how much I argued with him. The woman had to pay back nearly £2,000. I agreed to contact her this year for payment(string it out over xmas whilst trying to find a way round it lol) I rang her this year only to discover she now has cancer and is going thro serious chemotherapy and really really ill.

I cried like a baby went above my boss. got the debt wiped out. Thats what you shouldve done.

And to the store offering to deliver the kit you rock x

I want to choose my words carefully. Forgive me if I don't because I have a busy day here and not a lot of time to triple check.

I heard from Donna yesterday. She thanked me for posting updates. And she did apologize. She apologized for hurting me in my time of trouble.

I read her blog post. I know most of you aren't satisfied but I am. She's most definitely been hurt by this. BOTH in her business and personally. She has taken the remarks to heart. And she has grown from the experience. How could she not.

Now I know you say too little, too late. And so much more- but I do believe in the power of the universe. I believe we all have lessons to learn while we're here. I think the universe taps on our shoulder and if we don't listen, it taps harder. DD was pummeled.

Some don't like what she said or how she said it. Don't we all have a relative that other people don't "get". He/she says or does things not as we would but overall we know they mean well and we move on.

I think we can all agree that Donna can't possibly come out of this untouched in some way. And even the most skeptical knows that the financial possibilities of this event could "touch" her.

I don't want her to have financial ruin. I don't want her to get on her hands and knees. She apologized. She has a huge week ahead of her and she's had her share of stress. We don't act ourselves when we are highly stressed. I can attest to that.

I don't know her. But she's a person. So am I. So instead of "Team Sharon" (which is hysterical btw) maybe we could have a Team Sisterhood. We're all here on the planet for the long haul. Let's forgive and forget and enjoy the rest of the ride.

Pe@ce - you are totally awesome.

TEAM SHARON is a term of sisterhood.

I hope that you are correct and that Donna has learned a lot. I have enjoyed her work in the past.

What happens next will be determined by Donna herself.

Please. Try to get as much rest as you can today. NONE of this is your fault.

I'll just say a big fat ditto on this. Sharon, you're one amazing lady.

I don't know, sometimes it's so hard to feel empathy for someone you had to drag kicking and screaming for 2 days to "see the light". I have more empathy than a whole lotta people... but for me, it will always be the "Donna Downey Double Dip". I mean, the apology on her blog. Wonder what would would happen to her fan base if they heard the blunt facts?
"I denied a woman with cancer a refund because she was having surgery."

As far as this being a 20 pager, beating a dead horse, blah blah blah... everyone has a right to voice their outrage, etc. Even if it is repeating the person before you. Sometimes, when we're on such a heated subject, ya gotta type it out yourself.

True. Oh, sometimes you have to cut and paste for yourself too.

Sharon - to show that this is not all about you, I am quoting from a 2Peas thread dated 10/28/2007. It sounds like it could have been written yesterday.

It simply boggles my mind that not one single person who is a supposed "professional" in this business and who has recently been caught with her pants down appears to have "gotten" the idea that the main problem is that she hasn't acted professionally in her interactions with and about the customers (aka her mealticket).

I can't think of any other industry that is run the way scrapbooking is. It would make a fascinating case study for a business school class.

For real. This industry is so stereotypically female that it makes me a little ill. Craftiness, appearance, and popularity come first. Actual customer service and professionalism is at the bottom of the priority pile.

I'd proudly wear a TEAM SHARON shirt with no reference to DD at all, but simply b/c if ever there were an example of grace under fire, it's Sharon.

Sharon I have been praying for you and I will continue to do so. And I'll pray that if I ever have to face even half the challenge you are that maybe I'll have learned a little grace and class from you.

Sharon

You are a classy lady, and I admire your spirit.
P&PT go out to you and your family-we will be thinking and praying for you tomorrow.
