i have privately spoken to both sharon as well as her friend kathy who will be attending inspired.
we talked, we listened and came to a solution together.
Wow I can't believe this is 6 pages already, I admit I haven't read the last 3 pages, can someone quickly get me up to speed?
But from this quote it seems like they agreed her friend could go in her place. And perhaps doesn't want to advertise that so more people will ask to give their tickets to other people.

Translation:
The "miscommunication" was that Sharon thought I would refund her money. I set her straight on that right quick.
Message boards have a way of getting to the truth, but I'm choosing to ignore it anyway.
The "common ground" that we have found is that I got HER to apologize for even thinking of asking for a refund to my precious event.
I talked, she listened (because really, what choice did she have but to listen to me after I deigned to call her), and we decided just to ignore this silly little problem.
Sharon, I hope that your surgery and recovery goes quickly and smoothly. Please let us know how you are doing!

My reply to DD:
You are wrong Donna.
It most definitely IS your place to publicly comment on what has taken place. You are the only person that can put a message board full of very devoted, caring, SMART, and financially savvy women at ease. All you need to do is the right thing. That is to see to it personally that the money is refunded to a very ill woman.
If that is what has already been done then you need to say that publicly as well. Not commenting publicly is the WORST thing you can do right now. I have witnessed this type of thing before.
Your silence on this matter only reinforces what is being said on the 2 Peas message board. We voice our opinions with our wallets and right now, you are being cut out of that conversation.

Sheesh. Double D has no clue, does she? She doesn't "get" that the problem is not solved. That all she did was tell her she couldn't have her money back and gave her some bullshit reason why.
If she thinks the problem is "solved" then she's too stupid to be in business.

I'm going to go out a a {short} limb here and call bullshit. There were no lines crossed, and the problem would NOT have been solved had she gone straight to calling you DD! Please. Just how stupid do you think we all are?? She emailed you, looking for help, a resolution, SOME freaking thing! But all she got was shut down. Ha. I got your problem, right down to the all mighty dollar. And your lack of it!

Donna Downey...badly done. At this point, I would think that a heartfelt apology and a grand gesture on your part are likely the only things that can fix this. Do you hear that sound? It's the sound of your business sinking in to the mud of unkindness and bad business decisions.

...she [the OP] vented on 2ps when she really should have just called me [Donna Downey].
Hadn't the OP already tried that route & received a forward of the company policy, as admitted by Donna Downey herself: ...the other day when she inquired via email for our refund policy i just forwarded our policy.
Wait...according to the OP, she initially exchanged e-mails with someone named Kandi & didn't knowingly correspond with Donna Downey herself until today: "I tried to email Donna. I got a couple of responses from someone in charge named Kandi." So, if, in fact, it was always Donna Downey corresponding with the OP, she has had knowledge & chose to strictly interpret the policy from the beginning! [And, just for the record, why did she seemingly pretend to be someone named Kandi? Does Kandi actually exist? If so, does Kandi know that she was just thrown under the bus by her employer?] i am human...
IMHO this is the lamest excuse anyone, especially a business, can offer since it applies to everyone! The OP is also human - a human who has encountered a hurdle in her life that Donna Downey LLC has made seem a little larger!

I really hate that Donna is putting the responsibility on Sharon for the "miscommunication." Sharon did what any customer would do. She e-mailed the contact info available. She got her response from a representative of the company. How often do any of us take our grievance past the answer we get, especially when company policy is quoted to us?
And personally, I would've never thought to call Donna herself when her rep had given me a clear answer. My assumption would be that Donna is the name on the company, but not necessarily involved in the legal-ese involved. Sharon did what any of us would've done. And she got treated like crap for it.

wow, I don't even know what to say about this. Sharon, I'm so sorry you are going through such a horrible ordeal. I pray things go well with your surgery.
Well, I've read the thread and I can honestly say I hope that Donna has taken care of this personally and has righted the wrong here.
This whole thing was handled really, really badly. Donna's responses seem, like she's pissed at everyone instead of being gracious and apologetic she messed this up so bad.
With that, I am removing my 'bookmark' to DD's blog as well. She was at the top of my list, right behind Ali and Stacy.
As for Stacy Julian, personally, I like her and her whole LOM system. I didn't think Stacy was even affiliated with Simple Scrapbooks anymore, she left over a year ago to focus on Big Picture..which appears to be doing well. She makes a great product I'm willing to fork money over for. She's unique.
Donna, not so much. Sorry.

i promise you things have been blown way out of proportion, and because i care i am answering every email i get.
i am human and yes the other day when she inquired via email for our refund policy i just forwarded our policy. thats it.
from there it basically snowballed into what it is at 2ps, i havent corresponded with her until today when i called her after first contacted about the 2ps thread.
sharon and i figured out where the lines of communication got crossed and i know she is dealing with a million other thoughts. she vented on 2ps when she really should have just called me.
problem solved!
i am not the shrew you all would have me to be.
and i am sorry i have lost your confidence in that
d
Op should've called Donna so she could do, what, READ the policy to the OP that she had already emailed to her when OP originally tried to discuss the matter? And now it's the OPs fault since she chose to vent on a message board?
This thread is begging for a:
And why does she sign her name with just "d"? Does she not go by "Donna"?

No, Sharon isn't 'OK' - Sharon gave up on trying to resolve the issue because she's having SURGERY FOR CANCER and has bigger priorities to deal with.
AFTER you talked to her, this is what she posted:
She did explain their policy and why it's in place. The money has already been spent. They pay teachers, supplies, travel, etc. It is a business after all.
I just want to move on. I have a lot on my plate. I need to get myself mentally prepared for what lies ahead. And I have an 8 yr old here that needs me.
"I just want to move on. I have a lot on my plate," doesn't sound like somebody that is 'ok' with the outcome - rather, someone who is too exhausted and stressed, and has other things that are more important, to continue to argue with you.
THAT'S why the Peas are here. Not because we're trying to blow things out of proportion, or get caught up in the drama but because we DO care about Sharon, and while we can't fight her cancer for her, we can at least battle other things on her behalf to try and give her a little peace of mind while she's busy fighting the biggest battle of her life.
As everyone else has stated repeatedly, you still have the opportunity to do the right thing. Based on the tone of your emails, however, I don't hold much hope that you will. Your arrogance is astonishing.

i do not have a "rep", (yes i know you will argue i need one), so i can only speak (in lowercase letters) from my heart.
This situation got out of hand, snowballed into message board fodder.
let me state right up front that sharon was refunded. i might not even need to say anything after that.
i have been trying to email each of you individually all day as your comments came in, but to be honest with you i have barely made a dent, your quite a determined bunch. much of what i have written has been posted so i probably do not need to say much other than i think i speak for sharon, kathy and myself when i say this whole situation got blown way out of proportion.
i am human. i fail. i succeed. i am touched. i am hurt and i am sensitive...all of which i have felt simultaneously today.
i told sharon and kathy today that despite the painful things you were saying, i really was impressed that so many strangers rallied around sharon, that the simplicity of that is a gift. I hope that once this blows over (hint, hint) that you will continue to touch base with sharon because you did a good thing today.
i hope much of what i read today was said out of anger or hurt you can still feel free to email me.

good to see the refund was issued (although isn't it a sad shame that the doubtful side of me hopes for confirmation of same from the OP or her friend, AKathy?)
The refund should have been done immediately, not after over 6,000 hits on this, countless e-mails to manufacturers of sponsoring product, and other hits on other boards.
Its a real shame to have watched all of this transpire today, and I really hope a lesson was learned. It'll be interesting to hear how future events are conducted and whether its just damage control speak or an actual life changing event.
To the OP, again, you are in my prayers for a successful surgery and a quick, pain free recovery. You have a lot of pea-ple pulling for ya that's for sure

If DD was giving her the option to sell her spot without making it public I'm not sure how your post will help the situation.
Exactly.
I think at this point people are being unfair to Donna. From what I understand, the OP can sell her spot. It is perfectly reasonable, imo, for DD to want to have that be done privately, however.
If you start making exceptions to rules and people find out about it, you can have a disaster on your hands. And it can happen for even a small about of $$ - I run a sports league for kids and you make an exception for $5 because a family is having a hard time and all H#*@ can break loose.
No matter what, this situation is lose-lose.
Now, the person who made the callous eye cancer remark was a jerk. But Donna can't be responisble for that.

Thank you, Donna, for doing the right thing. As one of your harshest critics today, I want to say that as I read your most recent response, I was touched, and I honestly felt like you were sincere. Dare I admit that I even got a little choked up as you shared your thoughts - because I was... choked up and touched that you finally got what this whole thing was about: it's about a community who cares so much for people we don't even know that we are tenacious in our quest to see that one of our own is taken care of. And since we are unable to hold Sharon's hand before or after her cancer surgery, we did the only thing we knew how to do - we went to bat for her when she was too weary to do so herself. That's how we roll around here. I have to say that my hope was that you would step up to the plate. You were slow in getting there, but getting there you did, and for that, I applaud you.
Thank you. | |

Sharon, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. I can't imagine how scary this is and how hard it must be to be strong during times like this.
I'm glad to see that the DD situation has resolved itself and regardless of the hand-slapping that was posted along the way, I think that it is a blessing that you posted your vent to this message board.
This thread has been viewed over 10,000 times and I from what I have seen of the peas, I can almost guarantee a good thought, wish and prayer has been said for you each and every time.
I hope that healing is headed your way.

" i think i speak for sharon, kathy and myself when i say this whole situation got blown way out of proportion."
No, see, it wasn't blown out of proportion. It was handled incredibly poorly at the beginning and your customer base had a strong reaction. You again handled things very poorly by calling, explaining the policy and continuing to not refund her money, while you had a waiting list of others to draw from. Double dipping at the expense of a woman with cancer.
There was more shock expressed about your action as things played out. So it wasn't blown out of proportion at all. You were getting a response to your actions. Just so we're clear on that. You made a decision, it was responded to. Not blown out of proportion.
You didn't make the right decision when you had several opportunities to. You finally did the right thing because of the "message board fodder," not because you would have done the right thing if no one was watching...

Well done, Donna. Now are you "Inspired" to kick the eye cancer lady in the shins during one of your classes? We won't judge you for that.

Apology or not, I don't think it should've taken a "bag of bricks" to get what should have been done in the first place accomplished.
To quote Athena
You know, JUST BE compassionate.
Pretty simple concept that shouldn't need to be "taught" by a whole pod of pissed off peas.

The refund should have been done immediately, not after over 6,000 hits on this, countless e-mails to manufacturers of sponsoring product, and other hits on other boards.
The above and the text of the emails that were sent out are why I will stand by my decision to not purchase DD items going forward.
I am very glad for Sharon that she'll get a refund and hopefully Donna did learn a very big lesson and not a life lesson. A business lesson, since it is a business afterall.
