I'm skipping pages of posts, so I'm sure someone would have said this by now.
Every time I've seen Donna on TV she was always talking about her family and even how she lost one of own daughters.
OP - I will never look at her products the same way again......... and I'd give/sell my spot to someone else and NEVER regret doing so. In fact, if I were you, I just might anyway and let them try to do something about it. (That's what someone with eye cancer will look like at the classes, don't ya know.)
ETA - I thought this was Donna Dewbury. Sorry. Wrong Donna here. |

I am so sorry that you are dealing with cancer and I can understand why this might send you over the edge - especially with the (I can't even describe it) response you got from someone attending the event (on a "supportive" "positive" board). I haven't read all of the responses but I am hoping that you will at least be allowed to sell your spot.
Hugs! Sending positive thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery.

Thanks Donna for the apology to all of us for the way this was (mis)handled. I too choose to see your words as sincere (and you even capitalized a few of them --see, we're not all bad, we noticed) and have a feeling that in the future you will choose your words a bit more wisely.
I so appreciate that you gave her a refund, that is really what I had hoped for and I hope that she understands, and you as well, that we only got all Mama-bear because we felt like someone needed to stand up for her.
I'm sure that you had many more things you needed to do today, so thanks for your time. |

She has still lost at least one customer....ME! Unfortunately, I purchased my ticket for Inspired last July. I don't want to lose my money on that event (it's close to $1000 invested) but be assured that not one extra dollar will be spent by me that will end up in the Downey pockets. I will boycott anything affiliated with her from this point forward. |

I swear that if you did do this I'd buy many of your items. I have a stack of photos of my DS's first year that are begging for some scrapping.
In the end the right thing was done. Be it the power of Peas or just that it was the right thing to do. I understand a no refunds policy and running a business but sometimes common sense has to win out. It won out here. |

Call me the cynical bitch but really, the refund and apology came only after you realized what was probably going to happen to your bank account. It shouldn't take a "bag of bricks" to force you to be human and realize that a little compassion can go a long way. Too little, too late IMO. *shrug*
yup, that's me too. I just strike another product off my list - no big deal for me. I just choose to speak with my wallet. There are plenty of truly genuinely nice people and companies out there that I can support and will.
As I posted before, I just wonder if it was the message board hoopla or the e-mails to the manufacturer/sponsors that finally made the light bright enough. We'll never know, but the cynical part of me thinks I know the real answer. |

I guess you can add me to the "cynical" list. I can't support somebody who only "gets it" after she finds out it's going to hit her in the wallet. I am truly glad that Sharon got her money back, but I cannot praise DD for doing the right thing only when she realized the bad PR was going to cost her more than it would to send the refund. Also, you can't make a sincere apology while you are back-handedly still trying to shift some of the blame for what happened onto the customer.
Everytime I see the name "Donna Downey" now, I will associate it with this whole incident. I will also not forget her "Acts of God" policy that allows her to cancel her events because she stubbed a toe and keep all the money. That alone lets me know exactly what she thinks of her customers. Sorry, but I'm done with anything that has her name on it.

Donna, there should have been arrangements made earlier. I don't believe your sincerity and since an arrangement was made with this pea in Feb 2009 for her to sell her spot, I don't understand why it took you so long and so many email to do what should have been done in the first place.

i just know giving in to the negativity that has followed this isnt the answer.
Well now, that's pretty comparable to SJ's "there are more important things to be worrying about" handslap.
Wise business owners realize they get valuable information from customers through their complaints, as well as their compliments. USE this as a learning tool to better your business. I still can't grasp how many women think they can go from sticking papers and photos together to running their own product lines and corporations. Because time and again we see unprofessionalism from scrapping "celebrities."

Although I am glad Donna did the right thing, it is a shame that companies have become so cold. So many businesses have really begun to miss the human side of things and it's no longer about the person. I only wish more businesses could see the person and not the $$$ and things would change.
I am so sorry you are going through what you are going through and please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you go through this very tough time. You have a lot of people pulling for you and please do keep us all posted okay?

I find the responses from scrapping industry notables so entertaining. Its as if they set out to say and do the absolute worst possible thing, business wise. Its a business nightmare but very entertaining. Sadly it was horribly hurtful to someone this time.
This has been pointed out countless times, but still, the women in this industry refuse to listen: Get some business savvy already!!! |

I was googling Donna to find out more about her b/c before this thread I didn't know who she was. When I googled her name and Inspired the Feb 2009 post was the 3rd or 4th post.

Donna, or any of her employees, if you read this, I hope you understand that you stand to lose a lot more than the $600+ for this one seat to your event.
I'm still back on page 3, and understand there has been some sort of resolution by page 8, but didn't the event itself only cost somewhere around $175 including supplies? And the plane ticket was another $500+ (I`m assuming that part can be recovered with the airline)? If that is what I am understanding (this is from what AKathy posted on page 1) it really is unbelievable that it took this much for a refund to be issued. All this over less than $200 on DD part! *shaking head*
Back to read the rest of the thread. |

Sharon, I'm glad you have your money back- one less thing for you to deal with right now! I wish you all the best with your surgery and recovery! You know we'll be here for you every step of the way with prayers and positive thoughts.
Donna, I am glad that you chose to publicly respond to this matter and make things right for Sharon. For that you have gained my appreciation. What you have not gained is my respect.
It should not take over 10,000 views, countless emails and letters to your sponsors for you to do the right thing. I find it incredibly sad that you only chose to make restitution when you saw the potential financial impact that this sh**storm could have on your wallet. Yours is not a business that I will choose to support any longer.
This "message board fodder" as you call it is a strong and thriving community. We may have our dramatic, infantile and less-than-pround moments but we protect our own fiercely. Whatever you think of us, the fact remains that when this is over- when Inspire is far behind you and you no longer think about 2Peas... we will be here. We will be here as Sharon kicks this cancer's ass, as she recovers and heals, as she struggles, perserveres and overcomes. We remain, as will the blemish you created on your company today.
I hope you learned something today. |

From the website:
545.00 per person.
This fee includes the admission to all 6 core workshops, activities, lunch and snacks Friday and Saturday and dinner Saturday evening.
This event fee does not include the cost of meals on Thursday, dinner on Friday, transportation, or hotel cost.

I wasn`t going to say anything more but I can`t seem to stop myself.
I think people are upset, and they are acting on emotion, which makes sense. And I don`t think Donna or the sponsors of Inspire deserve to be boycotted over this situation.
I`ve met Donna. She`s been very gracious to me and to my friends. I am looking forward to seeing her again in Sept when she teaches at the anniversary of an LSS.
I don`t think she deserves to have people attacking her and trying to destroy her business because she initially did something you don`t agree with.
I think continuing to beat this topic to death is unproductive. It is time, imo, to focus on praying for Sharon`s surgery. The negativity isn`t helpful.

No kidding freecharlie! Too bad we're not giving Sharon words of support and encouragement.

that. -- As a life philosophy. Still mad about Donna.
ETAETA OP... I was being sarcastic. You will have a lot of prayers and good wishes going with you into surgery and recovery from the peas! |

"Well done, Donna. Now are you "Inspired" to kick the eye cancer lady in the shins during one of your classes? We won't judge you for that."
This pretty much sums up how I feel. |
