No kidding freecharlie! Too bad we're not giving Sharon words of support and encouragement.

I'm fairly certain nearly every single poster has given her best wishes, warmest thoughts, prayers, hugs and MORE prayers to Sharon on a quick and safe recovery.

Sharon, I'm glad you were finally refunded the cost of the workshop. I hope your surgery is a smashing success, that you heal quickly, and that your post-surgery treatments zero in and destroy the cancer. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Wow...this reminds me of the Stacy Julian fiasco...how to wreck havoc on your reputation and seriously harm your career. I haven't seen 2Peas this upset over much of anything for a long time.

Donna, there should have been arrangements made earlier. I don't believe your sincerity and since an arrangement was made with this pea in Feb 2009 for her to sell her spot, I don't understand why it took you so long and so many email to do what should have been done in the first place.

unbelievable.

truly.

as for cycworker...

I`ve met Donna. She`s been very gracious to me and to my friends. I am looking forward to seeing her again in Sept when she teaches at the anniversary of an LSS.

I don`t think she deserves to have people attacking her and trying to destroy her business because she initially did something you don`t agree with.

I think continuing to beat this topic to death is unproductive. It is time, imo, to focus on praying for Sharon`s surgery. The negativity isn`t helpful.

whatever dude. You may ride the DD-train straight up her ass for all I care. This whole thing keeps twisting and turning - and not in a good way. You choose not to boycott her and that is your right. However, there are plenty of us still here, with our jaws dropping, unable to comprehend this type of behavior from someone who could have so quickly and easily rectified the situation.

and I mean that in the most sincere way possible.

Well, I got crappy service at HL and have never been back. I vote with my dollars in the consumer world and I choose to vote by not patronizing places I don't agree with. I've told managers or written emails when I feel something needs attention and let them know why I will no longer be frequenting their establishment or buying their products. Why should I not do the same here? Because the owner came and gave IMO a half hearted apology?

Thanks for giving Sharon a refund. I was really disappointed in you DD. I do believe you when you say you learned a lesson. I also believe in forgiveness and second chances.

It is , however, baffling how a grown a$$ woman can own a business and not use proper capitalization or punctuation in business correspondence with her customers.

I'm recovering from cancer surgery myself, and this just makes me want to kick DD's a**!!! Must be nice to be such a "celebrity" that you can treat people in such a shabby way. I'm glad there was some resolution, but it's sad that it took so much to get it!

OP--I'm wishing you the very best! Take care of yourself and I will be praying for you.

I am not a Pollyanna. I don`t think Donna is perfect, because NOBODY is perfect.

I run a sports league for kids. Really inexpensive program. Like, $20 for 17 weeks inexpensive.

We also have a no refunds policy (ours is actually `no refunds after x date). We had a situation where due to a health problem a child couldn`t play. It was determined after the deadline for refunds.

We made a decision to make an exception due to compassionate grounds.

We had at least 3-4 families who had a COW. They tried to trash us in the community. Our numbers the next year went down as a result.

So even with this situation being a medical emergency I can totally see the potential concern for equal backlash had the immediate response been `sure, you can have a refund.`

Life is not black and white.

I am a friend of Donna's AND I work for her. Yes, I do exist! In an attempt to clear up a few issues - first, Inspired is not a "scrapbooking" event.

You do not have all the facts and you probably never will, but apparently you don't need them to "trash talk" another human being.

I find it pathetic that you people have sat here all day and bashed the reputation of an individual that you don't even know. Donna and the ONLY person that this involves finally got to speak to each other only AFTER all of this stuff started all over the Internet.

The individual didn't wait to receive a response or speak with Donna personally before she posted the original message on this website when she needed to vent. And, that apparently gave just enough of a tidbit for each of you to jump on a bandwagon and verbally attack a very inspirational and caring individual.

Donna did do the right thing. The individual is content with the outcome. Not that is has anything to do with any of us.

And, in the meantime, the individual this involves feels horrible about the behavior of her 2peas friends and has apologized to Donna for starting all of this before reaching a resolution with her. You have added more stress into the life of an individual who needs to focus on her health and family; not to be concerned that she just helped with starting to damaged someone's career - way to go!

You have placed a target on Donna who was totally unaware that half of this stuff was even going on. It's not like we (DD, LLC) sit around our computers all day just waiting for the next comment to be posted. We have work to do and families to care for.

I also can not believe that 2 Peas has allowed this type of slander to exist on their message board.

I will continue to include both of these women in my prayers because of the issues they are facing. And, I will add one in there for you people too who are a little too "busybody" to respect another human being and their feelings.

Good night and may God Bless you all!

And, OMG! Donna types in lowercase! Seriously? You're grasping at straws just to bash with that one.

If I didn't have that $630, $554 for my flight and about $175 in supllies already invested, I'd just stay home too.

This is what AKathy said on page 1. That was what I was referring to. She must have meant $554 for the admission not the flight. Sorry for the confusion!

First and most importantly, Sharon, be strong and know that pea prayers and positive thoughts are flowing to you for safety, healing and strength to endure.

No, see, it wasn't blown out of proportion. It was handled incredibly poorly at the beginning and your customer base had a strong reaction. You again handled things very poorly by calling, explaining the policy and continuing to not refund her money, while you had a waiting list of others to draw from. Double dipping at the expense of a woman with cancer.

There was more shock expressed about your action as things played out. So it wasn't blown out of proportion at all. You were getting a response to your actions. Just so we're clear on that. You made a decision, it was responded to. Not blown out of proportion.

You didn't make the right decision when you had several opportunities to. You finally did the right thing because of the "message board fodder," not because you would have done the right thing if no one was watching...

Precisely.

There was no miscommunication, no crossed wires. We've heard those lines used before by people with bigger names than this. It's "cover your ass" speech.

From a publicity standpoint, there was absolutely only *one* way to respond to this "message board fodder":

"I'm sorry. I screwed up. Here's your refund. We will be sending you kits. I wish you well. Would you like to plan to come next year as our guest?"

I promise you a response like that would have garnered all kinds of fabulous publicity from 6 bazillion peas and you would have suddenly have gained a reputation for being a caring and compassionate and generous creative woman. Down to earth and able to fix a mistake at lightening speed.

If six hundred dollars is going to sink your company, you have way bigger problems than 2peas (and you surely can not afford publicity like this at al).

People are **always** more important. Always.

And finally, power to the peas for getting it done. Go peas.

ncstanleys - Donna Downey is no longer just a person, she is also a product name that includes hands-on classes.

Often, people come to this MB to vent and commisserate with others who have similar vents.

This overwhelming response is not because this one person - the OP - caused any of it. (OP - truly. Please do not feel bad.)

This response is because EACH POSTER posting feels like this was, or could have been, the treatment WE would have received in the same situation.

"WE" have REAL lives too. We have children in school districts closed for 1-2 weeks because of Swine Flu.

"WE" have husbands and children and SO that depend on us and pull us in a hundred different directions every day.

"WE" have watched Donna Downey and believed her to represent "US"..... and "WE" are disappointed that her name was allowed to be used to hurt someone already suffering.

You better get a handle on the new reality. Internet communication is only going to increase. AND YOU JUST TOLD US HOW BAD WE ARE TO COMMUNICATE THIS WAY.

Dumb move.

I used to spend a lot of money on scrap supplies until the SJ thing went down. Simple Scrapbooks was my "bible" and I stopped buying the magazine. I've rarely scrapped since then; the inspiration was gone.

This fiasco was worse than the SJ blunders. I'm judging what went down by DD's own words in her posts here. It was heartless. I'm glad Sharon's money was eventually refunded but this whole thing was sickening esp. the eye cancer comment and the apparent DD double standard (again judging by the words of her own policies.)

I'm amazed that DD let this go on for any amount of time especially given that there was a waiting list of others wanting to get into her class. I'm just shaking my head at this .. it's unbelievable.

ETA: I just have to add that the "message board fodder" comment was demeaning and insulting.

I don`t think she deserves to have people attacking her and trying to destroy her business because she initially did something you don`t agree with.

But that's the breaks you get when you decide to go into business for yourself. When you choose to put your name on a product and want people to give you their money for your product or service, you aren't supposed to be buying friends. It's a business transaction. Even if it's a cozy, sentimental hobby like scrapbooking. Ultimately, we the consumers are wanting to be wowed by product and service. And if you can't do both, then step out of the way and let someone with thicker skin do it.

The emotional "please stop being mean to me" crap that we've already seen from HS and SJ before keep reminding me that some women really should just be "creating art or expressing themselves" for their own pleasure and not working a business. No one is complaining that DD is ugly or smells or making fun of what she wears or talking smack about her mother. They are expressing displeasure about the way she conducts her business. Period.

Huge difference. Which still shocks me that so many scrappers can't understand that.

oh and kudos to TwoPeas for not pulling this thread.
It's the weekend, they're protecting themselves from the swine flu (or H1N1 because that changes everything)

I've worked in PR for the past six years and if I had posted Kandi's post on behalf of one of my clients, I would have been fired.

Frankly given the glimpse we have gotten of donna's business acumen, she won't be.

Kandi's post ramped it up again, then your bizarro post donna....

Wow, Donna, are you sure Kandi doesn't have it in for you?

Because the only way her post could have gone worse for you is if she had posted a picture of you kicking a big ol' bag of puppies.

It is just like Donna and the company she keeps to blame others for their mistake. Kandi should be fired! Donna stay off the beer, your comment made no sense.

Stupid Kandi just fanned the flames....what an idiot? Hasn't she learned anything from reading the past 9 pages??? Insulting your customers is NOT a good policy. Making fun of them (i.e. "you guys sit on the computer all day while we have lives" is frankly stupid!!!

You know what these posts are really about?? DD and now Kandi's poor handling what COULD HAVE BEEN A MARKETING/PR COUP and instead, by their own words and actions, they berated and hand-slapped the customer....Dumb, dumb, dumb.

With people like Marissa and Kandi speaking for you who needs to respond.

Didn't even notice Donna's strange post, too irritated by "Kandi's".

ok i am still here reading.
i have been all night following the comments
kandi should NOT have posted.
it only got everyone fired up again. (thank you kandi for trying but it didnt help)
maybe i am firing everyone up again? i dont know
i want you to know i am human.
your words hurt
i dont care if you buy my products...who cares.
what i do care about is the attack on my character.

i made a mistake, yes, bad business...it is not the way i run my company, nor the way i want to run my company.
i wish i could just walk away from the computer but it is like watching a train wreck and i am in the train.

i refunded sharon long before i posted. (not that that matters, but just because it was what most of the comments on the board reflected) i spent most of the day responding personally to emails trying to address each persons concern.
it didnt take 10 hours, but yes longer than it should.
but it is not about the refund,
i get that it is about compassion.
i get that to.
i know this needs to play out, but i just wanted you to know.

I obviously misjudged your sincerity.

Kandi and Donna, your assholiness has been noted in my records.
