Welcome back!

The third project/video/pdf for this week is up HERE.

This week focuses on Distress Inks from Ranger. (If you missed Monday's video, click HERE... or Wednesday's video, click HERE.) Today's video talks about creating watercolored backgrounds with Distress Inks.

Remember, there will be prizes! Each week we will offer a challenge. Just play along and we will pick a winner of some prizes from Hero Arts and Ranger.

Again, The challenge for this week is to use any of the techniques presented in the videos/projects. You can use any products, but we would love to see some Ranger and Hero Arts! (Both companies donated a TON of prizes.) When putting them in the Gallery, don't forget to click the appropriate box indicating your project is part of the Thinking Inking class.

Also, please link your project here on this thread so that everyone can see it.

Enjoy! Hope you all are having fun with this class.

Woo-hoo, there's gonna be another big mess in the craft room. Love it, love it!

Gotta whine about the criminal waste of ink though. Instead of wiping up the ink puddle with a cloth, how about using up as much as you can by either coloring more shapes, or perhaps some 4X6 and some 5X7 pieces of ivory cardstock to use as card backgrounds and photomats?

ha!
yes, i agree. i usually do many pieces at once. lots of them, in fact. when doing this card, i think i did over 20 circles with it.
but for videos sake, i wiped it up.
i love using ink this way!

here is a video from hero arts that shows more distress ink stuff:
HERE.

and here is another video that shows a spin on today's background techniques:
HERE.

hope these inspire you, too!

I was doing great until we got so messy!
What do you use to get so much ink off your finger nails? Just soap and water?

In answer to question above -- GoJo. Soap & water alone won't do it, especially if you're using some of the darker inks.

Anyway, the watercolor background technique is obviously trickier than it looks in the video; either that or it takes more practice than I've time for today. It would also probably help if all my Distress Inks weren't such dark colors: I can't wait until my new ones arrive in the mail.

So, here they are, my supposed watercolor backgrounds. Note to self (and anyone else who cares) don't use watercolor paper to do watercolor backgrounds with Distress Ink, it's too absorbent.

Oh my goodness! I am in heaven with these classes! I've always adored your work Jennifer and to have it be FREE too?! It's like Christmas came early! So a couple questions...

Is there anyway to give a very basic supply list for the 9 week course so we can place one big order at once through 2Peas? I am running all over town trying to find things because I hate paying shipping for new supplies every couple of days, but I'd love to do it all at once right here.

Also, for those of us leaving on vacations over the course of the summer will you be leaving all the classes up here on the boards for at least a couple weeks at a time? I don't want to miss anything, but I know we're going to be gone a couple weeks during the 9 week period.

Keep up the beautiful work and thanks for offering this awesome class!

Jen, I can't begin to tell you how great this week has been -- from the way you present to the amazing projects. You make me want to drop everything and stamp. And there's 8 more week's of THIS?

Hi Jen,
Just had a quick question...where can I find a Ranger craft mat? I didn't see it listed here and I didn't see one in the HA online store. Is there something else I can use for now?

My favorite section of part 3 was the faux watercolor stamping.
I am really having fun with this-I tried the faux watercoloring technique but it didn't turn out well so I'll keep practicing-I think I need some more colors of the Distress inks!-Does that mean shopping?LOL

I found the ranger 8x10 foam craft mat on Ebay for a decent price with low shipping... I couldn't find it anywhere else either, but without seeing it I wonder if it's the same as a $.47 piece of foam from the kiddie craft department at Walmart. I bought that as a temporary thing, but I'm anxious to see the real deal in person.

I too was wondering if there was a deadline to post finished "challenges". I stayed up late having fun experimenting with my newly learned techniques. Thanks again!

As someone who is not really a stamper I have to say Jennifer ROCKS!!! I love all the distress ink videos.

I got my craft mat from M's with 40% off coupon. Bazzil also makes one. It isn't the same as craft foam, but if you use a xyron sticker maker or sticker sheets you can also use the sheet left behing...or wax paper.

I am so getting the rest of the ink colors and perfect pearls (even though I keep telling myself I don't really need them!)

Thanks to everyone for sharing your work!

Here are the cards I got done today. I had so much fun with this. My 15 year old came in last night while I was playing around and ended up playing with the ink with me for over an hour. Then today my 12 yr old son played for a couple of hours doing these fun techniques. Thank you Jennifer for the fun with my boys!

Here is the card I stamped today using techniques from parts one and three. http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=1502412
Part 3 is not up to connect to on the gallery as yet.

Had to use my new stamps...

I sponged on color for the background with miscelaneous Distressed inks, sprinkled with water and used a heat tool to dry, and then stamped the three ferns with Distressed inks (used Worn Lipstick and Broken China - be sure to use the lighter color first or you will get the Broken China on the other color's ink pad...

Just a note for those of you who don't yet have a craft sheet but have kids. I'm currently using one of my daughter's placemats as my craft sheet and it's working great! It's one of those that's covered in plastic...you know, with colors and numbers all over it. Sesame Street or something like that, lol...

So if you've got one laying around, grab it up! And if not, grab one at Wal-Mart...they're less than $1 each.
