Hey there!!

Welcome to Part 2 of Week 5 of our class. The first project/video/pdf for this week is up HERE.

This week focuses on Alcohol Inks from Ranger. Today's video talks about using it with clear embellishments, such as acetate, glass, etc.

And, of course, we need prizes! Each week we will offer a challenge. Just play along and we will pick THREE winners of some prizes from Hero Arts and Ranger. Please post your project by Sunday, 7/19 at 11pmEDT.

The challenge for this week is to use any of the techniques presented in the videos/projects for crackle paint. You can use any products, but we would love to see some Ranger and Hero Arts! (Both companies donated a TON of prizes.) When putting them in the Gallery, don't forget to click the appropriate box indicating your project is part of the Thinking Inking Class, Week 5.

NOTE: If you don't have Alcohol Inks and are unsure it is for you, be sure to watch the videos. You will love it. If you don't have any (yet) to use, you can do other glossy background techniques for the challenge, you can use other inks. I don't want anyone left out.

Also, please link your project here on this thread so that everyone can see it.

Enjoy!

Oh my goodness - those are some of the neatest ideas I've seen in a very long time. I would NEVER have thought you could do so much with alcohol inks! I'm off to see what colors I have...

Jennifer, thanks again for sharing all of this. You ROCK!!!!

I am off to buy some alcohol inks.
Never knew all the ways you could use
them so never got any. My mistake.
Am looking forward to trying this when
I get my alcohol inks.

I've been waiting for this day since, well -- Day 1! I love the look of alcohol inks on transparent surfaces but I had no idea how many different techniques were available to enhance the effect. I'm so pleased that there's something fun I can do with all those transparent buttons Basic Grey packages with their coloured button sets: I now seem them as an opportunity, rather than a nuisance.

Here are my alcohol-inks-on-acetate card & my experiments using alcohol inks on shrink plastic.

It's taking me a while to get used to the alcohol inks...but I'm having so much fun learning. I used a transparency and made several backgrounds I didn't like. Anywhoo, I decided to use a die cut and make flowers. Here it is.

I absolutely LOVE these inks and this whole class!!! I never thought I'd really have a use for alcohol inks before.

Here is my project on a clear plastic tag that I cut using a Sizzix die:

Thinking Inking Week 5 part 2 No Great Things tag

I really wish the beauty of these inks could show up better on screen, because the metallic silver with the blue really is gorgeous when you see it for real!

Jennifer - First, LOVE THE CLASSES!!! You make it look so easy!

Next, if I heard you correctly, you used Glossy Accents to adhere patterned paper or cardstock to the inked side of the fragment or glass tile. Is this correct???

The reason I ask is that I have used Glossy Accents to either seal an alcohol inked project or to adhere paper to an alcohol inked project and the Glossy Accents altered the colors of my alcohol inks. It made them kind of neon looking. Neon does not exactly work very well with an earthtone color scheme.

Amazing, amazing ideas Jennifer!! Unfortunately I've blown my craft budget for the month so I won't be playing this week (since I don't have any alcohol inks in my stash). I will be printing off all teh files though for future reference.

Okay, something strange has happened to my latest upload!

I click on it in this thread -- Heart -- and in the gallery, but, all I see is my description and the comments ----- NO PHOTO!

Can someone else try, please, and let me know?

Savannah, I didn't have any problem with your link, but the same thing happened when I clicked on Jeephpy's link. I had to click on non-flash to see her card. Later, it came up just fine.

I don't think it's you; I think Two Peas might be having a temporary problem. I noticed a couple of red X's in the gallery too.

I tried doing the alcohol inks on fragments today (all Tim Holtz line) and mine came out weird. Also, it seems like a lot of the tiny felt fibers are coming off and sticking to the fragments. Is that normal?

I totally know what ya mean about blowing your budget. I'm seriously afraid to add up what I've spent this month because I'm guessing I'm way over my budget too. Having fun though (I keep telling myself because the class is free I can justify spending more on the supplies, but I'm not sure if my hubby would agree).

Hi all...I just re-watched the week 5/Part 2 videos again...and I have a quick question...on the charm with the rainbow on the back and the word "hello" on the front, what ink was used to stamp the "hello"...I haven't used the charms or fragments yet (I just bought some yesterday) and I know the alcohol inks will dry on them, but they seem to wet to use for the word stamp...is there another kind of ink that will dry on the slick surfaces and not get smeared off?

I just got some alcohol inks and I had a blast playing with them for the first time. Here's what I want to know? If I had enough of this stuff could I "color" a countertop with it? LOL It's so beautiful. I love the marble effect.
