I confess - I should be invoicing - but I was so ANTSY about STAMP WEEK that I could hardly sleep last night! So - I've checked all the links and oh my word some gals have some ideas.

Here's my current dilemna: those totally cute SU sets in those boxes; the EZ mount pages I use in the 3 ring binder do not hold all the stamps - they fall out; I HATE having a combo of types of stamps; I don't have ANY idea of what I have!!! So I just don't stamp!

I do like the document box idea - any info right now for the cheapest source for those? I also LOVE the DVD storage - I am a goon for uniformity. And I am definitely doing some kind of index!!!

Thanks Stacy for another fabulous compilation - definitely lots of options! I am DYING to watch the videos on how to unmount but I can't just yet! I may have to smuggle my iPhone and earbuds to the bathroom later! LOL!

I don't have a ton of stamps, but this is going to take some thinking for me.

I did come across these-unmounted stamp books by Cropper Hopper a while back. I could have sworn they had them at J's online, but now I can't find them. Maybe they're sold out or something. similar to the dvd case idea.

good luck everyone!

ETA: I saw this thread and wanted to post it in case it gets burried.
stamp storage

I did't have a chance to read the whole thing yet, just thought there might be some good ideas in it.

fortunately this is a fairly easy week for me. I'd love to have all of my stamps in one place. however, with all of the different kinds - wooden, scrylic, 7 gypsies, etc there just doesn't seem to be a good system. My wonderful dh built a cabinet with drawers that works great for my wooden stamps. I took a lot of them out of the plastic boxes and put them in sturdier acrylic box frames. easy to stack and find what I need. Here's my stamp storage and ribbon now that I'm finally finished with the ribbon rings. still need to find something for the spools, but I'm thinking about asking dh to build something for me. probably a wooden box with dowels.

stamp and ribbon storage

Good luck this week! Can't wait to see everyone's storage and progress

Thank goodness I spent last summer doing this already.... I took a bunch of pictures and did a tutorial on my blog. Here's the link.
Stamp Storage tutorial

I also have done a tutorial about how I unmounted my stamps and use Aleene's Tack it Over and Over. Here's that link
Unmounting Stamps tutorial

I have made a few modifications to my system, but they are more like "tweaks" verses major changes and I changed the baskets I was storing them in. I am trying to finish up the last of my overhaul right now in my scrapbook room. Took out all my furniture and added a large U shaped desk where I can sit in addition to my standing counters, so it's totally changed the whole room and I've had to rethink each storage solution again. I will be updating my blog soon with the new photos of how I reorganized everything...

Hope this helps someone

I definitely need this as I love my stamps but never think to use them as they are not convenient to use. Out of sight out of mind. I think I'm going to go with Jennifer M's binder system idea. I really like the ease of use and storage on a shelf in my expedit plus it would be easy to throw into a bag when going to a crop. I have my wooden stamps in a tote thing which works well but I need to have an inventory sheet so I remember what I have (like Stacy's).

Yet another great post/week Stacy!!

This is so inspiring! I've been waiting for the past crazy week to be over and a new challenge to be up. Now, with school back in session and some days off work - I'll play.

Stamps... Yes, I've got them, and no, I'm not using them much. I tend to forget what I have, so I'm starting an index this week. Also, dividing alphas from non-alphas make a lot of sense to me.

For now I have foam stamps in the Target $1 boxes from awhile back, Stampin Up sets in their boxes in baskets, tinned sets stacked and misc stamps in photo boxes. I thought they were organized , but realize it would be better to sort them according to theme or type of use rather than after how they are packaged

So I ran to Walmart at lunch and they have those beautiful Ecobinders for $3.50 - Target sells them for $5.99 and I am so HAPPY as I needed a few more and they had ones that MATCH the ones I got at Target last year! Yippy skippy!

No luck there with document boxes. And no time yet to watch the unmounting stamp saga. What is so durn depressing is that I had NEVER bought any SU stamps until July of last year and I sat down one day in February and mounted them all on the wood!

I still don't know what format I am going to do my index in but I think I will start sorting categorically tonight and see what I have that could work for an index. I also want to stop at Container Store on the way home and see what they have.

Anyone know of any cheap document boxes right now?? Or Rolodex prices?? This shopping legwork is something else - being a Consumer is hard work!

Also Walmart here had 50 sheets Avery sturdy Page Protectors for $3.67 each - less than half of what Staples is I think.....

I think if I put what I have in binders INSIDE the page protectors that it will keep them from getting lost.... So, I liked that idea alot....and I hope to watch the Jennifer McGuire video tonight, too....Seems like it will refine the bulk of my system.....leaving only those wood ones....My acrylics are probably 90% of my stamps - very little wood or foam.

I am sort of happy with my system. I just need to get it separated into 2 binders instead of stuffed in one. I may have to get some transparencies to see if my stamps will adhere better to it versus my DIY book.

My woodmounts are in 2 drawers of my sterilite cart and my foam in the drawer with the paints and other coloring stuff.

Can't wait to see what the blog has for inspiration.

So I have no idea what I am doing this week!! I have stamps stored:
1) Wooden stamps on a wooden holder I made
2) More wooden stamps in a fishing tackle box
3) Xmas stamps in a plastic tub
4) I recently bought that printers tray that I hung on the wall for more wooden stamps
5) Foam alpha stamps in a cropper hopper plastic box thing
6) Foam alpha stamps in a photo box
7) Foam stamps in a cute metal bucket
8) Clear stamps in these cute coupon envelopes with velcro closures (LOVE THEM)
9)Stamping up stamps in the clear boxes they came in
10) One set of paper salon stamps in the cute tin they came in
11)And one set that I bought last week of MM flower stamps that came in its own 3 ring envelope!
AND if thats not enough.... I bought some more stamps and they are in this... Yup that is the inside of the bag from Tuesday Morning!! HAHA my favorite organizational tool.

I know I like my wooden stamps mounted on the wood... so those I will not change out They are great decorative items. And I like my coupon holders-- but the reason is they are enclosed so no loose stamps fall out.But I am not opposed to another similar method.
My Foam stamp storage needs HELP- I would like to find one method to store them? Maybe boxes?
I do know that 3 ring binders don't work for me for any type of storage.
AND lastly I do want to have a roledex of my stamps!! I actually bought a roledex punch last year!!
So those are my issues!!
I really need foam stamp help ladies!!

So anyone have a line on where to get a roladex cheap? I would think with back to school sales it might be the perfect time??? I checked the web to see if I could find how to make a homemade one but didn't have any luck. My other thought was so use a receipe box (altered ofcourse!) Because some of those roledex's are actully kind of big..

Still trying wrap my brain around the foam stamps...

Dancing Fish, I was wondering the same thing - I priced them last night at Office Depot when I stopped to buy those DVD sheets that Jennifer McGuire uses. $32 for the small one and $37 for the large one (3x5). I was SHOCKED! I am sure there are several somewhere gathering dust - just don't know where.....

And oh my word - don't you have a stamp story. I only have 2 foam sets and they are shoved in baggies and they are totally out of sight, out of mind. I think I will keep them shoved where they are shoved and my "rolodex" will help me know to use them if they fit the project.

I had Football Parent Booster meeting last night - so I did not get to do anything with my stamps, but I do have binders and sheet protectors ready to go. I am going to Google Rolodex and see....I don't think it fits the bill for back to school sadly.....

No time to watch the UNGLUE video and am still debating whether I will go that route or not....

I miss our teachers' comments.....

Dancingfish, I can hear why you don't like to stamp much now. I don't have many foam stamps, just 2 sets of alphas and a few etc's. I planned to put my foam stamps on to velcro dots and file them in a box. but they live in a drawer for now.

Here an interesting idea: Pencil cases

Dancingfish, my foam stamps are in the Target Document boxes. You can also find a similar type of box at Office Depot. Or you could always use those clear shadow box frames and put your stamps in there like trays and then stack them that way...

Hobby! I love the pencil case idea!! I really don't have that many foam stamp sets-- 3 alphas, a few HS sets, and 2-3 MM sets. I bet I could find some cute pencil cases cheap right now!!

I checked our office supply cabinet here at work to see if there was any old broken ones --alias not a one.. I know that our Staples sometimes has some in the clearance section I might check there.. if not I will go with the reciepe box. I don't have the $$ or the time to drag this one out!

I think JO is purposely hiding from this week... I know she has a ton of stamps!!

So are you breaking up your Stamping up sets? are you keeping them in their containers??

I, too, love the pencil case idea.

I am breaking up my sets.

I am about to go raid the cabinet here, too, to see if there is an old rolodex.....

What about the ginormouse 12x12 Fancy Pants stamps - I have all of those and wonder if any of you do, too?

No I don't have any of those! What about putting them in a page protector and either in a 12x12 album or in a vertical paper holder?

During lunch today I am going to see what the $1 store has for pencil cases! and card holders.

Clear stamps are another thing to think of too... Does anyone know if MM has their 3 ring envelopes available for sale other than with stamps? I wouldn't use a binder but might like them stacked in a basket.. I don't have many so its not a problem.

I have been following the challenges for a few weeks now. I have been wanting to organize my stamps for some time now,but I was thinking of laminating some white cardstock and sticking the stamps to the laminated sheets. do you think the stamps would cling to the laminate?

Dancing Fish, for clear I do something close to Jennifer McGuires and love it storage wise. I am adding the page protectors to keep all my giblets together and I think if I get the rolodex done that will be the icing on the cake. Lots of cheap binders out there right now. And some of them are even cute!

Come on Vicki! Me? Hide? You should know by now that I'm a bare-it-all kinda girl!

Just overwhelmed with school. I haven't read through any of Wookie's post or all of the comments here -hope to do that later tonight. I do know how she keeps her as I've gone over and over her room before the challenge. She references 'dollar boxes from Target' in her pictures, but I've yet to discover what that is.

Yes, I have too, too, too many stamps. When I moved them from the shelves, I did clear out 15 sets, but , ahem, it was not a dent. I'll take a picture of it later, but it's not a fancy system. It's by size container, and then alphabetically as I THINK most Su demo's do. I have considered breaking it all down by category after seeing Stacy's system, but it would cost me too much in EZ mount. PLUS, it would honestly take me weeks to stamp, categorize, and separate, so I'm leaving it as for now.

More later.

dunno- but I would think bigger is better if you want to try and stamp the stamps on it... I know I have noooo packaging left!!! hide and destroy before hubby figures our I shopped again! heheheh Just kidding!

I went out at lunch and hit three stores and none had pencil boxes-- need to go to walmart or target I guess. Although I am thinking that maybe the old Checkbook boxes I have been sorting with might be bigh enough for some of the foam stamp collections...hmmmm??? I will try that out tonight--

Jo I dream of stamping at your house!!! I bet you have all the good stamps!

AJ that was so wrong to post that!! That my dear is my dream scraproom!!
ahhhhhhh---

ok back to reality-- I made a decision and get this already acted on it. Since I couldn't find the cute pencil boxes I went with the Checkbook boxes-- The foam letterstamps fit perfectly in them (numbers are in separate boxes)AND all the boxes fit neatly on end in a photobox. Should I acquire more then I will get a new photobox and order more checks (hahahaha)
And I am going to buy the making memories stamp storage folders to go along with the envelopes I currently have.
And my wooden stamps are going to be removed from the stupid fishing tackle box (who thought that was a good idea???) and put in my new printers tray!!
DONE DONE DONE with decisions.. now to act!

Well I'm just NOT gonna' look at Karen's room. I adore her and have taken two classes from her, but I'm still miffed at her for getting that stinking cute house AND changing from Canon to Nikon. So there. LOL!

Oh my word - today is my work from home day and I have spent the last two nights running around for stuff to maximize my non-commute time today! What an ordeal. (But you know I love it!)

I found a 3x5 Rolodex at Office Depot clearance for $10.92 last night. It is model 67032 and it is the tray one - not the flippy one - and I am trying to decide in my crowded head if I can live with that. The non-audible debate is roaring....

My 2nd dilemna is that I have two binder sizes going: 8x8 and 8 1/2 x 11. I have those 8x8 velcro sleeves for my smaller ones - I got them from DJ Inkers and have loved them. But uniformity is tugging at me. But I need another 8x8 3 ring binder and sleeves if I stay in the dual size mode. If I move them all to the big size then I've wasted all those great envelopes.... and my stamps will flip around. Jennifer McGuire's DVD case idea did not work for any of the brand stamps that I have - the sizes were off.....So those were returned last night....

Also, when I said I was breaking up my sets did ya'll mean the SU wooden sets or all the little acrylic sets? Am I supposed to break each little acrylic set up?

Also what categories??? Stacy said she had 24...I want to definitely get categorized today....

SHOOT ME NOW! But, I did RESIST buying more of the plague last night when I was at M's and saw those adorable little Imaginisce stamps.... Slight progress....but I may go get that darling little bird today because I cannot help myself.... as evidenced by all this rambling....

Off to refill coffee!

Vicki, you've got a plan.

Karen Russell's room is beautiful. Not my style but love how interesting it is. My logical brain won't allow vintage. Her paper drawer is fantastic.

I break up some of my sets of acrylics. The large sets like autumn leaves I leave on the original sheets. Mini stamps get put into categories.

I too would like to know all of the categories that Stacy is using. Right now I just sort into a few: journaling blocks, florals, sentiments, birthday, other holiday, baby, borders, flourishes, shapes/geometrics, animals, alphas.

LOL- Penny I spent last night putting new stamps on a wishlist while I was trying to figure out if I REALLY wanted to buy the MM stamp envelopes. Just what I need more stamps that I don't use...

Anyway after that I went to put something away in my desk -- ended up cleaning out a drawer and guess what I found??? a roledex from a past job and a metal 3x5 index card box along with tons of dividers and cards. I am sticking with my card box.. And I have decided that I am also going to attach my diecuts on cards and file them with the stamp images. One location with lots of choices!

I couldn't sleep last night because I was so excited about making the file!! (Geek I know!)

Okay Vicky you didn't help me any!!!! You just made it worse because now I know you have the flippy rolodex! And you got it the worst way - free! But what a terrible hoarder that must mean you are. LOL! Okay - that makes me feel a little better.

Too funny - I had thought about adding to a post the other day MY idea of combining my Cricut carts with my stamp images but I thought, "No - they'll really think I've gone off the deep end!" Glad to know you're in here swimming with me! To all you others - COME ON IN, THE WATER'S FINE!

Penny-- so sorry for my lack of attention-- they actually think I need to work today..
I think you should get another 8x8 album. That way you can use what you have. Then sort out your stamps so larger ones are in the larger binders. Hopefully you can get some color continuity with the binders as well??

As far as Sets- I was talking about SU sets.

But that did get me thinking about the clear stamps- some of mine have parts and pieces that create a whole.. Meaning its a stamp of a tag that says Family across the top-- but you can remove the word if you want.. I think I will keep those together but stamp them 3 times on cards. (1 with family word, 1 with just tag, and one with the whole shabang) And then file them under 3 different categories.... did that make sense to anyone but me!

I would love to hear everyones list of categories.

I know I was bordering on bratty - but I am going out of town this weekend and DS has a scrimmage Friday night and today is my best chunk of time. Forgive me. And thanks for indulging me.

The best thing to do sometimes is dive in. I tackled my Alphas - those are easy and of course it got me going like I hoped it would. We are meta-braining b/c on the acrylics I thought "leave it on the sheet it came on" but that cute little "Christmas gift" should be listed in my rolodex under gifts - so I can see where my rolodex categories will be way broader than my binders....

I am, btw, falling slowly in love with my flat tray rolodex. I think it will actually work better for my quirky self because it will live in the drawer that holds inks and we will all be happy that it is out of sight.

I P-mailed Stacy re: categories - will keep you posted.

THE REALITY OF MAKING THE ROLODEX JUST HIT ME - LIKE A MAC TRUCK.

I have stamps spread from kingdom to come and I think now I want to vomit.

So I have to ask... do you use your stamps on layouts? I seem to collect more than I use... and only pull them out a couple times a year to make a card... So by doing this will this ensure I use them? hehehe

Well....I go through phases. I have not used them lately because I had picked up so many and "thrown them into a corner" and it was a hodge podge mess. I also realized I need a new cleaning pad and I think that is the REAL reason I haven't used them much of late.... Funny how this process really makes you work out the kinks....

I probably use them equally on cards and layouts. I took an Ali Edwards class one time and she taught that a trick to unifying an album was to stamp a repetitive image throughout. That is how I mostly use my images in layouts.

The strangest thing about this hobby is that you really have to have a "collection" of anything to do anything. We want to "browse" and "pick and choose" - and that I believe is the creative (albeit messy) process.... But hopefully not disorganized and cluttered messy - just playing with my stuff and now I'll put it away messy.

Stacy sent me her categories. Here's her Pmail:
"Hi Penny! Here are the categories I use: swirls, punctuation/arrows, floral, borders, boy, winter/Christmas, celebrate, baby, love/wedding, summer, autumn, nature, circles/squares, Halloween, animals, misc, stars, geometric, spring, text, stripe/plaid, holidays, textures and journaling. Good luck on getting those filed, it makes such a difference when it's organized!

Stacy"

I am contemplating a "Backgrounds", "Vintage", "Words", "Phrases" and to use t!m's word, "Ornates" in addition to most of hers. Sorta' hard to categorize some of them.... I would say I'm about 12% done.... I've stamped my Tim Holtz, my Wendy Vecchi and my circles. My swirls and floral piles are big and I am doing them last. I am also going to try to recruit DH tonight, as I have plenty of acrylic blocks!

Penny, you have been busy!!! Way to go!

I just got back from running errands and getting groceries. I picked up a couple of purple binders to match my other ones that I bought last year at BTS time. I also ran to Officfe Depot and picked up the CD/DVD sleeves and 3 x 5 picture files. I can't wait until Miss Makenna goes to bed so I can organize! Luckily I have a rolodex (not the flippy kind) that I was using for sketches and ideas but I'm changing that to Stacy's way so I don't have a use for it... or I didn't have a use for it. Now it's going to be my stamps, cuttlebug dies and embossing plates and nesties file. I think I will use them a lot more when I know what I have and where. Now I need to pick up some magnetic sheets for the nesties and a business card holder file sheet thing for the smaller dies and stamps. YAY!!!! I would love to know Stacy's categories too.

Thanks for the category list Stacy via Penny!! I like your additions Penny. I don't have any vintage ones but the rest I do plus I'll add a baking category. I bought the Just Rite baking ones last year for homemade goodies. Can't wait to play! Although I too am not looking forward to doing the "inventory" stamping! Yikes that's a lot of stamping!

Kelly, it IS a lot of stamping. And, sadly, for a lot of mine, it's their launch! I do however have some very cute stamps, I am discovering. It's a lot different to actually SEE the stamped image vs. the image overlay.... I told Stacy I am eating this elephant one bite at a time. I may unmount my wood stamps in another week! They may sit in the deferred pile next to my fibers!

However, I did peruse the upcoming weeks and I don't have any big hurdles again any time soon. Whew!

Oh - Walmart had the best deal on the "business card" size sleeves - they have baseball trading card holders with their BB and Pokemon cards. 35 sheets for less than $6. Office Depot ran $3+ for 10 sheets. They are both listed as archival and PVC free, btw.....

Back to the stamping pad! I am super happy that my boys are about to head to youth group!
