Hobbyaholic I usually chose a co-ordinated line of paper that suits my project and add in some basic embellies that co-ordinate with the line, like buttons, brads, flowers and ribbon. Limiting your supplies often forces you to make a decision already and you can be more productive. Having said that I would bring some cards or pictures for sorting as a back-up. I've found that sometimes I get tired working on the same project all day and need something small to do to break things up a bit. Have fun at your crop!

I have found that having made some sketches of the first 5 pages or so helps too-- picking out the papers, pictures, a few embellishments, maybe some stamps that would work through out the project. And don't forget to bring a pad of sticky notes to jot down things that you want to add when you get home (just in case!)

I totally agree that if you can find a paper line that will work through out it helps.. that way you can make embellishments out of the paper too!

TGIF! I have to tell on myself. Our sweet little store that is 35 minutes away from me - across the lake and a gorgeous drive but a haul none the less - is closing. So, last night after my cut and color I decided I'd run over there. I called Jo to be sure she knew. Cash only. Everything - everyhing - 50%. Cash only. I had $94 and some change. So they have a great wall of stamps. Some brands I love. So I'm looking at them the whole time thinking: how close am I to my $94 AND DO I WANNA' STAMP THIS ON A ROLODEX AND HOW WOULD I CATEGORIZE IT? LOL!

I did buy 4 sets of Technique Tuesday - 2 were word stamps and one was decorative and then a little polka dot stamp....Good thing I passed on Wally World..... Seriously, though, having just done my inventory, I was better equipped to know what stamps I might kinda' sorta' need. I definitely knew not to buy any florals or scrolls or swirls!

I agree on the album thing - when I do an album I pick a family of paper and use that throughout the whole thing. (And it moves as a family into an Iris case for the duration of the project.) I also do some unifying element on every double page spread. Like for Disney I did little Cricut Mickey heads - different sizes/colors but a little head somewhere on every double page spread. When I did our DC trip, I used star stamps. Chipboard scrolls would be another idea....Sometimes to leap off into a project I'll find a great page idea in my BOS to get me going....

DancingFish Vicky, on the lamb I did Nature. It's under Basic and all my animals are in that category. I don't have a window stamp and I think somewhere in a kit I have a chair stamp but I will pretend like I didn't just this moment remember that! I think I would put both under Decorative and in a Architectural category. I did have a lamppost but I put it under Vintage because it's a Vintage one....

Oh, Mickeygirl, some of us work FT and do most of our hobby stuff on the weekend. I am CLOSE to finishing a LO to post. I worked on it Wednesday night. Never fear - we have three more days! You know I'm gonna' earn my badge.

Thanks for the idea. I have a problem though, I don't know how much is enough. When I buy coordinates I usually grab a complete set. Guess I need to really "sketch" out the general layout of each page.

Man this stuff is so hard. I'm so used to just grabbing paper to match my photos and going for it.

Ok- its been a tough week and since stamping week turned into stamping two weeks...I have not done a layout but I WILL PLAY at some point this weekend!!! I WILL-- So lets everyone find sometime and play-- we have worked hard both in our scrappin rooms and in our "other" lives!!
Not only should we do a layout but we should celebrate stamp week(s) by trying to challenge ourselves to actually use a stamp or two on a layout!!!

Getting some housework done before I start working on a layout! but thought I would share a before and after picture of my card box.

Also the last picture is a picture of my hallway right outside my scraproom. Yes that large pile of junk is stuff that I have removed while doing this challenge. everything from extra bullitin boards, to boxes, to in/out baskets, wire cubes etc.. Anyone else amassing a pile of stuff they have removed from their rooms? Click here for picture

LOL Vicky! I am deep cleaning today, too. DH drove DS to church for mission work and I texted him, "Should I put all my scraproom overflow (or as I affectionately call it scrap crap!) into the dining room or the guestroom" -- because right now it's spread into both!!!! But my real scrap room is looking spiffy! I WILL finish my son's LAX LO today or tomorrow I promise! We may have company for the holiday weekend, so sadly today was a much needed deep cleaning day.

Thanks for sharing your pile of scrap crap - it gave me a chuckle. Your box is super cute and I was glad to see the after pix. You must have KNOWN you would alter it when bought it. Back to the grind of expelling the dustbunnies....

Sorry to jump topics..I'm trying to finish up "Idea Week". Crop week forced me to revisit idea week.

In thinking about my crop, I ended up at the index and packing to go away. So then it dawned on me that I never finished my idea system.

Don't want my question to get lost so here it is: I'm going through my digi files and I realize that I need more folders. I have one for each hobby but that seemed chaotic since some of my "lifted" ideas go in more than one category.

How many categories are you all using?

Hobby- Penny is probably the best person to answer this as she went digital with her ideas. I use a binder so mine are probably too broad for what you are looking for.
Photography
Stamp ideas
Altered projects
Creative use of letters
Mini albums
Sketches
Quotes
Page topics that I have pictures for but have never scrapped but want to

I also have a separate binder for Classes I have down loaded and Digital Scrapping how-to's (although I never scrap digitally I do collect stuff hahaha)

Hobby- funny - you are not alone. I'm trying to go back and wrap up ideas week also. Have had it spread all over my bedroom floor now for four weeks or more....

I have my ideas a bit more broken down - I have 'borders', 'school', 'disney', etc.

If you look at the Stamp Week thread Bree posted her room and her folders for her ideas - I thought they were pretty good. Like anything, store them how you use them.

Do you go looking for a MINI ALBUM idea or an idea that used paper you have?

I have mine in three broad categories: BOS - great LOs that just inspire me in every way, Ideas I want to Scrap - meaning journaling or thoughts that I want to capture and then Sketches - these are pages where I like the LO structure but say hate the purple paper. (Sorry - no flames - I just really am a primary girl.) Oh - then Altered Art is another category and then Scraprooms is another....and then Cards - so I lied about 3 - just 3 I guess for basic LO's. I have folders for each class I've taken too. And I have a DIGI folder too where I store that stuff.

I have 1 binder of ideas etc now and tons of stuff I just never printed off. I want to get that stuff out so I can see it.

I have 6 categories now: Sketchs, Cards,Stamping, Techniques, Papercraft objects,Classes

I am finding that with things like a paper pieced tree. I can't decide between a technique or if its ...never mind that just helped me decide as I type to add an embellishment tab. Duh!

So Hobby - are you just storing the unprinted stuff electronically OR are you printing it?

I think Stacy needs to add a week where we finish off our left-behinds and our piles of scrap crap. I got it all out of guestroom yesterday and into the Dining Room and now that room looks simply attrocious.

But I DO LOVE HOW MY SCRAPROOM LOOKS! I was just sitting here thinking that as I P the board....

Also, I finished a 2006 CKU canvas class last night. Woo to the hoo, to quote Jana Eubanks. I cannot tell you how excited I am to have reworked that dd class that was in peach and pink - and to have 1. a finished project and 2. a smaller unfinished stuff pile. It's official - I've made a dent.

Best part - I put ALL my stuff away right after finishing it and it looks like my fairy godmother cleaned my space - except it was little 'ole me working my room.

I have to clean some more today and then I am finishing the LO and posting it!

Hobby I thought you were going digi with your ideas? No? or a combo of both?

I scrapped until midnight last night-- felt good!! got three pages done!! I am scanning them and will post soon... DH is trying to convince me to go shop for new tailgating chairs today but I just wanna play...
I did find a flaw or two in my new system that I want to rework now before it gets out of hand. But like Penny I am loving having a place for everything!!

Way to go Mickeygirl! Those are cute LOs.

I just finished wrapping all my ribbon. My DH asked how much dang ribbon do I have because I've been wrapping for weeks. I'm also organizing all my brads into an album so they are color coordinated and all together. I love the way its turning out but is very time consuming. Then I'm onto stamping in my index... I don't think I'm going to get a LO done but I did get a digi LO done and a mini-album/brag book for DH done. Do those count? DH took the album with him so he can show off our DD to his customers before I could get pics of it. Thank goodness for this catch up week!!!

Of course they count Kelly! Post, post, post! Mickeygirl, your LO's were very cute and I wasn't offended at all by what you said - so please don't think I was. No harm, no foul.

I agree on thank goodness for catch-up week. I know Memorabilia is going to kick my bootie! Ink, ink pads and embossing powders are next week and that should be easy breezy for me as I kinda' handled them when I moved everything back in like week 6 and then I made some finishing touches during the real stamp week - not the extended stamp week. LOL!

Okay - off to finish my LAX LO so I can post it!

Penny-- Great layout!! I also love how you photograph it.. takes the flatness away.. I need to try that!! because I used popdots on my layout-- (something I rarely do!) and you seriously can't tell from the ugly scan.
