Vicki - I love your boxes too! I'm sure jealous of all these shallows shelves and drawers I see. My SU lady has a system very much like Container Stores with the sliding drawers and I LOVE them - but they wouldn't work where I'm at in the house. I bought big black memorbilia boxes from Container store a couple of years ago and they are quite awkward, but they were good $$ so I'm stickin' with em' for a while.

Penny - your pic's are great! I have my projects in IRIS bins also - and have one of the racks that hold them - and about 5 more that have no where to go. I love your idea of tucking them away - I'm gonna go see if I can do that - although I have all of my old CM refills and PP in the place where they would go so I'd have to find another home for that. And I like the way you decorated the fronts - may steal that one too.

I finished grading my tests, so I'm gonna go see if I can get anything done in the scrap room. I'm SO stuck as to how I want stuff in this new cabinet especially since DH hasn't fixed the middle glass. I do not like the way my ribbons are; they are in those ribbon containers by Snapware and I don't care for the plastic in the glass cabinet and I bought wire racks from a lady selling her LSS but they don't work on my pegboard (only $3 so I'm not out much). I love Penny's jars, but some of my ribbon is 25 yards long ....I just don't know how that would work. Penny - did you have any that long?
My CH's are in the glass cabinet since he hasn't built any shelves too...I was so happy to see those grey shelves GO but now... I"m sooo stuck.
I'm gonna ignore those two things right now and go file and finish the ideas section.

Jo- I think the ribbon in Jars would be a great way to add color to your space and it would be pretty in your cabinet. As far as the large ribbon-- Cut off 2yds of it and stash the rest--later you can decide if you want to store it in your space or somewhere outside of your space.
Do you own any jars? Mason Jars, old candle jars, even spaghetti sauce jars would work so you wouldn't have to go purchase anything right now! You can always change the jars later if you wanted to.

Penny- I am sure the pictures are not lost.. they have just been reorganized into a space you have forgotten about! You would not have thrown them away.

There's a gal who posted her room recently - she's in the Top 10. She has the black and yellow room. She said she waited quite a while to get just what she wanted. I know, Jo, that I have been working on my scrap room for 4 years. And every time I make a change or spend more money I go at it slowly and deliberately. If you really like the jars, I went with the smaller ones and they were maybe $6 each??

Mother always told me two things: (and I hated hearing both of them!)
1. Rome wasn't built in a day.
2. You eat an elephant one bite at a time.

Don't get discouraged - you absolutely cannot fix it all at one time when you work full-time and don't have Donald Trump's pockets. So - just take a deep breath and realize it's a process - a journey, not a destination.

And unfortunately, each person's room needs to be tailored to their quirks and personalities and stash and space - so it's a very unique process - that can be slow and expensive and painful.

So just make you a list of what you want to solve first/finish first and then go from there. I am a list maker - no doubt about it. I have lists of my lists. And there's power in a list - it gives you a prioritization and a focus. And then breathe and give yourself a break and just focus on the first thing.

Vicky, I love my expedit. I have a folk art house, but you can't beat it's crisp lines and utilitarian options. For some reason, our Frisco store sells them $10 cheaper than Houston. Love it. My only regret is that I didn't buy the ginormous one. But occasionally I think about buying a second smaller one....but I would have to put it standing tall ON a wall where I have my Demdaco Willow Tree Angels and they make me so happy that I just find other places to shove my carp. Yes I misspelled that on purpose.

And I never found the pictures. I just did print outs of their first day of school - works for me. Lots of times they don't turn out fantastic anyway. I'm getting over it - not much I can do about it. My big pix are on each boys' page - they're all home now and 15 YO DS has a major project to finish up and he has taken over my room anyway.

Que sera, que sera.....

Penny - while I am terribly sorry and sympathetic to your plight, it does remind me that you are ...um...not so far from some of the rest of us. tee hee Now, my experience is that now that you have venting your loss, you will promptly find it. So, go look....

Penny - your mother's expressions sound nicer than my mom's did.. I know about Rome and can't imagine eating an elephant AND I DO hear what you all are saying and I appreciate your comments (which is why I post here for some empathy/sympathy as my family doesn't get it). The problem is that I seem to continue switching systems and have spent so much money already. If it weren't in such a public viewing spot, it would sure help! I feel like I have digressed, but I have full intentions of getting there at some point. I stink at lists (I make them well but ...um... loose them -stinkin' ADD) but I am making one as I agree that it will help with the priorities. So thank you for that advice.

Vicki - I do indeed have ball jars that I could use for now - they were part of a "journal a day' project that never came to fruition. While they aren't what I want long term, I sure can try them for now. Plus, I did some on those ribbon cards and they are in a basket that just doesn't have a place to sit currently due to CH's in the cabinet. (remember that lady with the desk who had the ribbon wrapped laying pretty in the baskets?

I did that with some... desk hutch ribbon in a basket

I sold one of my Sizzlit sets that I've wanted to sell for a while but not organized enough to do stuff, and I am getting of stuff that I don't want in there, so that is helping a lot. Off to do a bit of work before bed....
I still seriously think we need to set a 'organize your stuff' scrap tour next year and hit each others new and improved spaces! (maybe I'll have at least one thing decided by then!)

Jo - no fair - I thought that was a link to YOUR ribbon in a basket!

I did Plan B on the pix and got them printed out and taped down. Success!

I am reading Photo Freedom and enjoying it.... trying to decide if I will revert to SCHOOL OF LIFE albums for boys....I like to think and process, too - but then once I decide, I am lightning fast! ha, ha!

I was thinking today, "It would sure be nice to have someone over to play" - but then again remember I have the RUNS WITH SCISSORS shirt, not the PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS.

And no - no super long ribbon - but someone did have long and they posted in thread how they handled the excess and noted that they had MORE stored somewhere else....

Jo go with the jars you have. It will make you feel good to have the ribbon organized and displayed.

To throw another saying out there--Life is a compromise-- I feel that I have made some concessions that when I started this challenge I told myself I wouldn't do. IE buy plastic sterilite containers.. but I did and they are working for now.
And I have alittle list in my purse with dimensions so that when that perfect little antique piece shows up down the road at an unbeleivable price I can jump on it! You can make a list too... I can't promise you won't loose it!!

Penny glad to hear you found a plan B and went with it... we all seem to get bogged down by the little details when in reality anything we do to preserve our families memories is better than doing nothing at all!
