I just made pumpkin bars and iced them with an icing that contains 3 oz. of cream cheese and 1 stick of butter. Should I put the bars in the refrig? I know it changes the texture of bread, cake, whatever, so that is why I am asking. (I don't want the icing to spoil, though.) Thanks for your help.

If you eat them all you won't have to worry about it.

I would refrigerate them if they are going to last for more than 24 hours.

They don't have to be refrigerated.

I would store it in the refrigerator, but take it out to warm to room temperature before serving.

Refrigerate them; the cream cheese starts getting rancid when it sits out too long.

I always thought the sugar makes it able to sit out the fridge? Bakeries always have carrot cakes sitting out. Perhaps they count on them being sold that day?

I've made pumpkin bars with cream cheese icing for years and have never put them in the fridge. Haven't gotten sick yet. (Knocking on wood)

Bakeries always have carrot cakes sitting out

My bakery keeps them in a display case that is chilled. I would not want to buy a cake that was left out at room temperature.

I would only because I like that kind of stuff cold, otherwise, I think they're fine left out.

My mom always taught me that anything with Pumpkin in it should be kept in the fridge - pumpkin can go bad pretty quick and I would think with cream cheese and butter, if it isn't going to be eaten within a couple of days, I would put it in the fridge.
