1. Who are you? Please include self portrait and any links to other sites featuring you, like your blog, website, etc. Pimp yourself out!!

My name is Jami Kristine Stensrud. I've been married to my husband David for 11 years and we have 4 kiddos...Wyatt is 9, Emma is 6, Madison is 4 and Xander is 2. I've been singing in musical groups and on-stage since I was 4 and next to photography, musical theater is my ultimate passion. David and I met performing in a production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and performed together while we were dating and early in our marriage. When I started having kids I decided to put performing on the back burner, but I still long to be back on the boards again someday.

My website is www.lifeinmomentsphotography.com and my blog is http://life-in-moments.blogspot.com

I love Mexican and Italian foods (both of which play havoc on my acid reflux, but I gotta have 'em!) and I'm pretty much obsessed with all things chocolate!! I enjoy watching The Food Network, "non-sleazy" reality shows (Amazing Race, Survivor, So You Think You Can Dance etc.), CSI, The Office and my new favorite, Glee. I am a HUGE Joss Whedon fan (Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my all-time favorite show ever), I love movies, and when I can find the time I enjoy reading crime/murder type books. I am the youngest of 7 kids (I have 5 sisters and 1 brother) and I have 18 nieces and nephews! I also love office supplies....pens, notebooks, file folders, etc....I love them all!!!

2. What inspired you to get into photography? And when? I have been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I would take roll after roll of pictures, but I couldn't always afford to get them developed, so a lot of the time I never got to see what my pictures actually looked like. But it was the thrill of shooting that I loved the most anyway.

When I got my first SLR (about 8 years ago) I started trying to learn more about the technical side of photography, but I found that I still didn't have a lot of money to keep developing film so my camera started to sit in the closet more and more . When I switched to digital (just a point & shoot) my interested grew again. When I finally got my DSLR (my trusty Rebel XT) I felt like I'd found a long lost friend.

Then on April 23, 2008, life as I knew it changed forever. My sweet Daddy (my best friend and greatest supporter) passed away from prostate cancer. Shortly after Dad's death I began suffering from depression. In an attempt to pull myself out of the darkness I picked up my camera and started shooting everything I could. I felt I was able to hide behind the lens and not have to think about the pain that I was feeling. I also realized after his death that I didn't have nearly enough pictures of him. I had quite a few, but it could never be enough. I would search my hard-drive, photo albums and boxes of photos praying that I could find just one more picture of him. One more memory that I might have forgotten. It was then that I knew I wanted to capture these moments for others. I wanted to help them savor those moments that I was longing for of my own. And thus Life in Moments Photography was born.

3. What is your education? Degree? Self-taught? Workshops? I took a beginners photography class taught by Travis (travis_cooper here on 2 Peas) and learned a lot about how to use my camera etc., but other than that I am "self-taught". I use that term loosely because I really don't know very much yet, and what I do know I've mostly picked-up right here on this board.

4. What kind of photographer would you describe yourself as? I have absolutely no idea! I guess I am still trying to "find" myself. Honestly, right now I wold describe myself as an "Imitation" Photographer. I take inspiration from other photographers and then try and give my shots a bit of myself. But I'm not quite there yet, and am still working on finding my style.

5. What kind of equipment do you use? Not every piece you own, but your favorites or use most often. I shoot with a Canon Rebel XT and mostly my kit lens. I also love my "Nifty Fifty" that a secret, sweet Pea gave to me.

6. What did/do you struggle with the most? Metering. One day I thought I had finally figured it out, but now I'm back to being confused. I also tend to fall back into my comfort zone called AV Mode, so I'm trying to break out and shoot in Manual more.

7. What was your biggest "A-ha" moment? Cam be something technical/camera-related, something personal as it relates to photography, or something you learned about yourself as a photographer. When I finally decided to stop stressing out so much about getting the "perfect" shot. I have so much more fun on sessions now, and therefore my clients have more fun too. My pictures might not be technically perfect (and one day I definitely want them to get to that point), but when I hear a client tell me "That was the most fun we've ever had while getting our pictures done", then I know the pictures will be great because of the emotions they will bring back.

8. Biggest lesson learned? Can be either about photography, the business, yourself, etc. Personal: Don't let others' behavior and emotions dictate how I feel. I am my own person and I can create whatever kind of world I want to live in. Photography related: It's not my equipment (or lack thereof) that makes me a good (or bad) photographer. Use what you have and learn to ROCK it!!!

9. What's your greatest triumph or achievement? Could be just opening your own business, to awards, to a compliment. I think my greatest accomplishment is the work that I've been able to do with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. It's no secret that I am extremely passionate about this organization. I have grown so much as a person, and as a photographer, by working with NILMDTS. 11 months ago there was a little piece of me that was never quite full. Now that piece of me is brimming with love for the 23 precious angels that I have been blessed to meet. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve these families in their time of need.

10. What is one of the most important mistakes you made that served as a basis for your progression? Getting too caught up in the moment and the fun of the session and then forgetting about my settings. I have to remember to have fun but still pay attention to what I'm doing!

11. What is it about photography that makes your heart sing and your mind race with possibilities? Capturing the raw emotions of my subject...happiness, bitter sadness, true love...or capturing my own emotions by freezing a moment in time that I will be able to remember forever.

12. Which do you like better - taking the photo or processing it? Why? Taking the photo. It just makes me happy!

13. What inspires you? Could be anything - other photographers, nature, art, music, people, etc. Music is very inspirational to me, as are my children. Pretty much everything I do in my life is in remembrance of my Dad, and my photography is no exception. I am also extremely inspired by other photographers. Like I said above, I take inspiration from other photographers and do my best to make my shots my own.

14. What is something about you that we don't know? Could be something serious or silly- your choice. I have had 2 brushes with fame in my life, and I just know that you will all be so jealous about them! LOL! 1st of all I once rode in Richard Simmons' limousine! LOL! When I was in Jr. High my friends and I skipped school to try and meet Neil Peart from RUSH when they were in town for a concert. While we were stalking their hotel we ran into Richard Simmons (in his teeny tiny shorts and mascara!). He struck up a conversation with us about how clean Salt Lake City is and told us he was going down the street to do a fitness seminar, and ended up giving us a ride in his limo. We never did meet Neil Peart, but Richard Simmons provides a much better story anyway!

My 2nd brush with greatness was that Donny Osmond pulled my tooth out when I was about 7 years old. LOL!!! My friend invited me to go to dinner and a college football game with him and his family but little did I know that we would be spending the evening with Donny Osmond as well. My friend's Dad is the co-founder of Children's Miracle Network, so they are good friends. During the game I was trying to pull my tooth out, and Donny ended up doing it for me! Didn't I tell ya you'd be jealous? Ha ha ha!!

15. Can you share with us your loved ones? Especially if they have been featured in your work? These are a few of my favorite family pics that Margaret took for us a few months ago. Also, a couple of my faves of my cute boys and lastly, my handsome Daddy on my wedding day.

16. Can you share your top tip/technique with us? It's not my tip (I learned about it here on 2 Peas) but my "Hot Shoe Pez Dispenser" is a lifesaver for kids sessions!

17. Who are you picking next and why? I have decided to pick Rebecca (craftyluv) because I adore her spirit. I find myself being uplifted and inspired by her almost on a daily basis and would love to learn a bit more about her.

18. Please share some of your favorite works with us!! I'm sorry there are so many pictures here....another thing I could say about myself is that I am EXTREMELY indecisive!

Wow-wee-wow! That bride in the water is gooooorgeous!

It's so fun to learn more about you and your other sides outside photography. I'm so sorry about the loss of your dad, but i know he's proud of you and what you're doing to honor his memories.

Your laugh has got to be the best one I've ever heard, it's infectious!

Jami, I really enjoyed meeting you in Denver, and enjoyed getting to know you better reading this. Your affection for your father is amazing (I have never been close to my dad) and I am sure he would be incredibly proud of you today!

And how cool that Donny Osmond pulled your tooth! I was madly in love with him when I was 8 years old, and his concert (with Marie) in 1976 was the first I ever attended. I was 9 years old.

Thanks for sharing with us!

Oh, Jami. What can I say? You're amazing! I do have to respectfully disagree with one thing you said: that you are an "imitation photographer"- heck no! You are 1000% YOU, and you are one of a kind! Sure, the general idea might have "been done" (pretty much EVERY pose has been done before!) but you put your own unique spin on things and THAT, my friend, makes you an original! Love you girl!

OH MY WOW!! I read these each week and I am amazed at what y'all remember from being little and loving cameras. And how you decided to do what you do. It's all so sweet and wonderful.

But Jami, those photos are fabulous! I too loved the bridge in the water. Even DH liked it, though he didn't understand messing up a dress, but what does he know? he's the one that told me to lay off the props! lol

and I have to agree with Jess....you ARE most definately the real deal babe!

Ditto everything that Amy said. You are absolutely one of a kind, my friend!
I loved meeting you and laughing with you. You are definately one of the sweetest, most kind hearted people that I know. And the picture that you took of Ciara and I just melts my heart everytime I see it. I've got tons and tons of pictures of her with her daddy but only a handful of her and I so I treasure every single one! Thank you!

Can't wait to read about Rebecca next week!

Jamie - thank you for sharing of yourself. I can relate to your nudge to get back into photography as I did the same following the death of my mom last July. There is nothing imitation about those bride shots or any of the others and you are an inspiration to the rest of us. (and not everyone can say Donny Osmond pulled their tooth - I remember the day when he was the teen idol; and I imagine Richard Simmons would be a hoot.)

Thanks for letting us take a peek into your life. I throughly enjoyed reading your interview. I am extremely jealous of your brush of fame with Donny Osmond. I Loved him so much when I was young and just knew if I could only just meet him, he would fall in love with me and want to marry me on the spot! I think I would've fainted if he pulled my tooth out!
I truely love your style and I especially love the bride who is somewhat "trashing" the dress.

Thanks again. It was a great read!

Jami--I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you in person, but I certainly can sense the caring, loving nature that you possess. I enjoyed reading this "interview".

Love the bride in the water and with the red shoes. You do lovely work.

And Wow, your work with NILMDTS What a gift to be able to give your time and talent to families experiencing such heartache.

Wonderful Interview, Jami, I loved reading about you.

Jamie, thanks so much for letting us get to see a little into your world. Your pictures are amazing,, and your family is beautiful. So sorry about your dad. I too was close to my dad, who passed 27 yr. ago. You never get over missing them, but the good thing is that love never dies. Your love for photography shows in your pictures. It's so much fun to get to know the guys on the board better. I think thats one of the secretes about this board that make it so greathanks again for sharing.

So I came to read the pea of the week and was happy to see it's you Jamie! And from reading your post we have more in common than we both originally thought lol.. I to am one of 7 . I loved growing up with a big family. And I used to do the same thing with taking pix and not being able to develop them. I'm so sorry you lost your Daddy . I can't imagine, and he sounds like he was an amazing man. TFS!
