The called me back to go for a second mammogram and ultrasound. I know that I saw something when they did the first mammogram so I am very nervous today.

Will they say anything to me today if they see something or will I have to wait for days until the Dr. calls?

I don't think that I can stand waiting all weekend long...it has been long enough in between the first mammogram and the second so that has been difficult enough!!

***********************
I am back from the hospital and I can tell you that it wasn't pleasant! The 2nd mammogram was painful because they had to use a different "paddle" and really compress my breast. Thankfully it was only one side, the one that is in question. Then I had to have an ultrasound because there is a mass that they found. They don't give you any results, you have to wait for the radiologist to look over your films and send the results to your Dr. Hopefully by the end of next week I will know the results. I did watch the ultrasound and luckily it is a clear mass that showed up which according to internet search, it is a cyst. So...trying to stay positive that is all I have.

Thanks again for all your good thoughts!!

well you are in a diofferent country and maybe things are not the same there, but here, when I went in for an "invasive Mamo" as my second one, they told me right away the results

I don't know the answer I'm afraid but I'm sure there are other outcomes from second exams apart from the one you're fearful of. Stay strong and let us know when you get the all clear.

I just had that 6 months ago and the doctor immediately did a biopsy and asked if I would be available all summer. His nurse said he said it really looked like cancer. (I'm a nurse too and knew her-only reason she told me) He even wanted the better pathologist to test it so I had to wait 6 days. I was nervous all week-end too. Turned out benign but now I'm on a 6 month ultrasound schedule. Hopefully it's nothing. Better to be safe than sorry.

When they do the diagnostic exams the radiologist reads them right then, no more waiting. Hopefully its nothing, as mine was.

Does a biopsy hurt? Unfortunately my dh is out of town and I have a lot to do with the kids this afternoon.

They immediately told me the results of the second mammo. I then went directly in for a ultrasound and after that had my biopsy immediately following the ultrasound. The biopsy did not hurt at all (after the shot). Thankfully everthing turned out okay. What is funny when they are doing the biopsy they shoot in a breast cancer ribbon to show that area had been biopsied in in case it comes up again on another mammo. Good luck.

I had to have a core biopsy last year and it wasn't too bad. The area is numbed-up pretty well. I think the noise of the machine made me the most nervous. I got a call with the results in two days. Good news. I know its easy to think the worst, but please try to remember that most of the time its not. Good luck.

Usually in the US they would do the 2nd mammo, have the radilogist read it right there, You wait, and if needed, they do an US, and read it right there also. I don't think they usually do a biopsy that day,but would schedule you for that. I had to have this about 2 mo's ago. I have a fatty cyst, so it was no biggie after the US. Just need to keep an eye on it.

I never had a 2nd mammo but had to do an ultrasound for my baseline because i had so many cysts....turned out to be fibrocystic disease but still makes me nervous everytime I get a mammo.

I'll pray that it is nothing and they are just confirming that.

Hopefully you get results quickly. I'd try to avoid the internet-too much misinformation that will make you more nervous. Do you have a big project you can throw yourself into to be distracted? Maybe clean out all your closets? Rent a few funny movies or ones you like.

A year ago I had to go back for a second mammogram and ultrasound. I had the results before I left the building. It was a cyst. Sorry you have to wait for the results.

Thanks again ladies! Fortunately I do have a lot to do this week! I have been super busy today and since DH is coming home tomorrow, I am cleaning and cooking a nice meal for dinner, then off to hockey tomorrow with the gang. Looking forward to staying busy and keeping my mind off of things. Tough right now though - I am still so sore from yesterday - lol!

I really appreciate all your good thoughts! I will update when I hear.

I had to wait for results on my diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. It wasn't very long. I had to have an MRI and I waited about 4 days for the results of that both times. Well, maybe 6 for the last one since I went on a Friday.

I hope you get good news.

I will cross my fingers for you.

I went through the same almost two years ago and it turned out to be nothing (I had a biopsy). After all the internet research I did during my freakout, I learned that some ridiculous high number of mammograms/ultrasounds show something that is nothing to be concerned about. Same with the biopsy outcomes.

With the awareness of breast cancer, they're trying to be very thorough. Just like pap smears and all the various extra step testing they do that have significantly reduced the cases of cervical cancer diagnosed each year.

I had a cyst in August. They wanted to do a biopsy of it. Then they put a metal ball in there to mark the spot.

I went in there and was out w/in an hour I'd say. I drove myself home. It was tender after several hours when the numbness stuff started wearing off, but after a day or overnight it was ok.

I'm supposed to go back in a few months for another mam/ultrasound.

I had to go by myself too because dh was out of town. I did fine and you can do it. I wish you much luck and hope it's just a cyst and everything is fine. Hugs
