$8.99? I ordered a product on December 30th in the morning from Amazon.com and I picked the 1-3 day shipping because I wanted the item fast. I just got an e-mail from the company stating they just now sent out my product. Now, I understand the holiday was in there, but what about Thursday, Monday and Tuesday? Is it me or doesn't 1-3 day shipping usually mean you get your item in that amount of time too? Now the item isn't going to be here until Thursday, which would have been the same day if I had picked standard shipping. Should I be mad or am I misunderstanding this?

A lot of companies weren't even open the whole day on Thursday of last week. I would have expected it to ship on Monday, but then they were backlogged from the long holiday weekend so everybody that ordered before you got shipped first I bet.

Sometimes amazon doesn't have things in stock or ready to ship right away. The 1-3 days is the time it will take to get to you once it has left their facility. I've cancelled a couple orders because of that. I wanted a book in about a week and chose 1-3 day shipping, but they couldn't actually ship it until it was too late to be useful to me.
In your case if you chose standard shipping it would take 7-10 business days from today (or whatever standard is) for your order to arrive.

exactly what the first two peas stated. This is usually why I won't pay the extra $ for expedited shipping unless it specifically states "in stock" and it's not near a holiday.

I had a similar thing happen. I ordered software on the 26th. I didn't receive it until yesterday!
I think the supplier things it's 1-3 days from the time it leaves the warehouse. I think it's from ordering. I guess what's the difference is, but sometimes it can take at least a couple days just to get the order processed which is frustrating.
|Posted: 1/5/2010 4:02:21 PM|1-3 business days shipping is 1-3 days in the mail (or whatever) AFTER the order is processed and leaves the plant. At least everywhere I've ordered from says that very thing explicitly on their shipping pages. I WANT it to be otherwise, but places that offer it ususally call it EXPEDITED HANDLING. Meaning they process the order faster than normal.

I was ordering from Amazon shortly before Christmas and there was a notice that read something like "Paying for more expensive shipping will not get the package there any sooner".

Wouldn't today be the 3rd day? To me 1-3 days shipping means they ship it out in 1 - 3 days, so you receive it in 2-5 days.
12/31 Thursday = Day 1
01/01 Friday was a holiday
01/04 Monday = Day 2
01/05 Tuesday = Day 3
I'm sure the holiday slowed the process down a bit, sorry you haven't gotten the product sooner, that can be frustrating

To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what it said next to the shipping options. I do know that it was in stock and that it was ordered on Wednesday the 30th at like 9am. So I guess next time I'll just pick standard shipping. And the only options I had were 1-3 business days or 3-5, not 7-10 like mentioned. An expensive lesson learned, but still very deceiving and I won't be doing that again. Still though, even if Thursday wasn't a full holiday for that business, then it should have been noted and I would have picked differently.

I learned the hard way that those dates mean the amount of time it takes the product to leave the warehouse, not the amount of time it will take to get to your door.

I guess too I'm thinking of Wednesday as a business day since my card was charged that morning by noon. Again, an expensive lesson learned the hard way.

what the others said ... the 1-3 days shipping means time IN THE MAIL, and does not include processing time in their warehouse.
now most of the places I've paid extra to for expedited shipping also promise expedited handling to get it in the mail quickly. otherwise, what's the point?
I'm with you ... if I ordered something and paid for expedited shipping on 12/30, I would expect it to have been shipped by the 31st. that said ... I would have *looked* for that information on their web site before paying extra for fast shipping.
