Hello, everyone! Welcome to month one of our 2010 Digital 101 class. I'm excited to get this started as I know that I'll be learning a lot throughout the course of this year as well. There is never a point where you know it all with digital - keeps it interesting to be able to continually add new skills to your arsenal!
You can find this month's seed, PDF and videos here.
Be sure to upload a layout for this month's challenge to be entered in the monthly prize drawing! This month's challenge is to upload a layout using one or more of our two peas free kits - you'll find a ton to choose from! Use the same one that I did in my sample layout or any other kit of your choice.
This will be our chat/tips/questions thread for this month so be sure to check back often. Thanks so much for joining us on our year-long journey! I'd love your feedback on anything I can do to make this the best possible experience for you. |

Wow Erica-I thought you did a fantastic job! I have only watched it so far but will be trying it here shortly-my first attempt at digi. I guess we are both having firsts today!!!!!
I do a lot of these things when using my sil so not it doesn't seem completely foreign to me! I say that as I build my layout on the work screen before cut anything.

I'm really happy to see some interest in this class!
I'd love to hear what you thought of the video (if you hate my voice as much as I do though, please don't tell me, lol - I'll never be able to do one again!)
I had my husband watch the video and try out the layout as he's a complete PSE newbie. I figured if he could make it through, it was ok He's agreed to be my guinea pig for the whole year!

Great class. Erica you did a fantastic job. I'm really a newbie when it comes to digital scrapping. I've been gooing through Sande's class from last year...not done with them yet. I've been wanting to learn more about shadows...so glad you showed us. You've taught me some really different ways to use PSE elements. The only draw back I have is how fast you went towards the end. I kinda got lost in some of you instructions...good thing I can go back a review...thank goodness for replay. LOL Again you did a great job I'm just a newbie and some of this is very foreign to me. Oh and I went to look over the PDF files and only see 2 pages...were there suppose to be 3? I was hoping to get more details on the things I missed on the video.
Thanks again for all your hard work...I;m sure I'm gonna learn a lot more as time goes on. Keep up the good work. |

Oh good - I'm glad the video is working out ok! Mikki, I will try to pace myself a little better for the next one...I'm not surprised that I sped up at the end. Thank you for letting me know!
There should be 2 PDF files - the first is three pages (though it loos like they saved in the wrong order...1-3-2 apparently - sorry about that!) The second PDF is a list of keyboard shortcuts.
Rosalie - the older freebies are fine to use. There were so many great ones - have fun with them.
Lori - can't wait to see what you did last night! |

Oo! I'd forgotten this class was coming up! I've just found it ~ and will be checking out the video tomorrow.
Digi scrapbooking has always been a real mystery to me ... but I really want to have a go.
Tell me one thing (and apologies if this is me being really stooopid) but how do you use the lo's? Do you print them out or are they just to be kept on a computer?

BSallyB - I print most of my digi LOs 8X8. The ones that are really dark I have in a file to eventually get printed out. I don't want to go through my ink that fast, lol. I also have them all saved on Cds as backups.
mommamikki, don't give up on Digi jusst yet. I am still learning and it definately taking some time to get used to. But digi is an awesome way to scrap away from home, whether on vacation someone or visiting some for a period of time. Taking our traditional supplies isn't always an option but we can usually take our laptops You don't even need internet access. |

OK, I just went through all of the uploads uploaded so far and you guys are doing an AMAZING job
I'm really glad that the shortcuts and some of the tricks are working out as well.
Welcome Sally! I have my digital layouts printed and stick them in the same albums that I store my paper layouts in. Once they're behind a page protector, it's hard to tell which is which! One of the wonderful things about digital though is it makes your layouts so much easier to share online (or have multiple copies printed to share with friends and family)
Amanda - I totally read that as "your voice WAS annoying. by the way" like 3 times, lol. My self consciousness - ugh! Thank you! hah

Hi Erica! I have really been waiting to take this class-and I won one of your kits for the CHA chat last Sunday-I chose the mini candy stripe one. Too cute-it was hard to choose one!
I have Paintshop Pro x 2 and am having a terrible time trying to figure it out. Then I downloaded gimp & couldn't figure it out-I think it's me!
I really want to learn this-on't know whether to continue trying to figure out the psp, or re-download the gimp and/or someone else suggested Paint.net.
Any suggestions? I am getting very frustrated!
Thanks, Cindy

Erica,
I loved your tutorial! Even though I've been dabbling in digi for a while now, i've learned some new things.
Just a question - this has been happening to me for a while . . .
when I use the control key to select more than one item, it sometimes starts copying the items . . .
has that ever happened to you and do you know why this is happening? |

Hmmm, Cindy - let me play around in GIMP to see if I can figure out how to replicate the sample layout - I'll work on it this weekend and get back to you! We'll get it figured out together
Betsy - is the copy anomaly happening when you are selecting multiple layers from the layers palette? and are using PSE? and I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial! |

Erica, your video tutorials are FANTASTIC !! And I love your voice. You sound very friendly.
I've been playing with PSE and digi/hybrid scrappin for a while, but I am learning SO SO much already in your class. Thanks so much for the shortcuts. Are the keyboard shortcuts the same for a Mac? That's what I'm working on (I, too, have an older version of PSE). Anyway, I'm glad I checked this thread. I didn't realize there was more than one PDF. I'll have to go back and check it out. Also, I didn't notice you going too fast at the end, but it would be helpful for me to hear the shortcut keys as you press them. Older learners (like me ) need to hear the same instructions more times for it to sink in . Thanks so much for doing this. It must have taken you a lot of time to put this together. It is much appreciated! |

Erica - Great Job! I have been doing Digital for awhile but I still earned some new things! Yeah! Which I was suprised because usually the first class I would think would be basic stuff I already knew. I have tried to figure out how to line things up and never could! I have stayed away from using alphas because of this, now I can start using them! WooHoo!
Betsy - I always end up with Copies of pictures when I am using Control to select a whole bunch! I don't know what causes it but I am sure it is something I am doing... It is very irritating! |

he is indeed - I lucked out with that guy
Betsy, I'm flummoxed! Are you trying to open multiple files that are contained in *different* folders? The only thing I can think of is that you have a file selected and are holding the control key while you click on another folder to open it (I think this would create a copy of the initial files.) I've never had that happen!
Sally - we'll help you get it - promise! I was so frustrated when I first started - layers truly drove me batty. What happens exactly when you try to drag a paper layer into your new layout canvas?

Hi everybody! Well my daughter Kellie and I finally figured out the layer thing in Paint.net program. I finished my layout which I will link but wanted you to know that I used a digi kit that was designed by Erica and I won here on 2 peas for participating in the CHA on-line chat last Sunday. It's the Candystripe mini kit-I listed under the layout if you want to order it!
The layout is My Little Sweeties
Thanks for looking! Thanks Erica for the really cute kit! |
