If my container of heavy cream has clumps in it, does it automatically mean that its spoiled?

I just went to use some cream in a recipe and a clump came out. Its still more than a week from the expiration date, it smells fine, and its been in the fridge the whole time. Can heavy cream clump without necessarily being spoiled?

I'm not sure since I always use fat free half and half, but as I recall back from my childhood when we bought whole milk from a dairy, there was always cream that was clumped at the top of the bottle, so I assume that the nature of cream is to clump together.

Yes, heavy cream can separate with clumps of almost buttery heavy stuff, but it's still good.

I think it's just the fat that clumps together. If it smells fine, I'd use it; spoiled milk is very noticeable by its odor.

If you are using the entire container you can whip the milk fat back into the cream, or... do like I do, wrap in some cheese cloth and allow to drip into a container, then use like butter.

I opened a container of whipping cream this morning and it was quite clumpy.

It's normal.

And delicious.
