I do not have either version and not have downloaded the the free trials yet---I see that SCAL has 15 days free--is MTC the same length of free trial?
I am wanting to use with SVG files (I have several I got from the cricut message board) and also to make Monograms on glass vases (so will need to weld together). I also plan to use to to make tile--like monograms one or ones with a saying...
Which one do you recommend????

|Posted: 2/12/2010 12:14:52 PM|If you already have SCAL and are used to the format....go for it, but MTC is so much more intuitive. A lot of people have both SCAL2 AND MTC and like MTC for how quickly you can get up and running....the learning curve is much, much shorter.
Both have EXCELLENT customer service. The developer is on the MTC forum everyday and answers questions quickly. There are a lot of graphics people on the board, too, who are very experienced and answer questions quickly.
MTC trial version never runs out. You never have to pay for an update or an upgrade with MTC. There have been several updates since Christmas that are have been wonderful on MTC. Andy, the developer, is working on something that will WOW us all and we will be beta testing it soon on the MTC forum.
Can you tell....my vote is for MTC.

I keep hearing all these great things about MTC. I just bought SCAL2 before MTC came out...literally DAYS before it came out...LOL. So far, I am impressed with SCAL2.

so if I buy it from my cricut buddy or somewhere---updates are still free??

I have both full versions
I LOVE scal.. but I wanted something where I could cut paper piecing patterns one "piece" at a time, since I often need 5 colors in total
MTC is good for that, but its hard to get used to for me. Maybe that is becuase I've used SCAL for 2 years now..
I'm still learning/practicing MTC

I have SCAL and really do love it. I use it a lot. I downloaded MTC's trial version and really liked it too. Some features were better and I liked some other their pre-loaded fonts, etc. better. SCAL's service is top notch. They've even responded to my emails at midnight on a Saturday. I can't justify swtiching. I did get an email from my lss the other day with coupon code 2237421 for $16 off SCAL. It's valid until the 15th.

|Posted: 2/13/2010 12:36:22 AM|MTC gets a huge for not having a Mac version. When I contacted them about it, they responded, "Well, Cricut doesn't make a Mac version." I assume they were referring to Cricut Design Studio. Poor market research, I say, if they truly didn't know about SCAL. Of flippant attitude if they did.

MTC. Love it-for all the reasons noted in previous posts.
