Oh dear where did the week go? I did not get my stickers and rubons done(got sidetracked playing with Glimmer Mist )I thought this week was going to be easy but I just found a whole drawer of lace. Maybe it will stay where it is if I don't get carried away and Glimmer Mist it all.
QOTW: I believe my room is being transformed into the room I've invisioned. I have run into some potential problems with my plan though. I didn't leave myself very much room to grow and maybe didn't purge enough to make way for growing. Or the places in the room that I thought I would leave may have to be dealt with, but there is no catagory for the items in these spaces so I will have to rethink these areas (a couple of closets used for different storage than what my room is purposed for).It might solve my problem.I am really scared to see whats all hiding in these closets

I've got those done already, pics are in my gallery.

You know, I have decided I didn't like the look of my scraproom. It looked too "clean" to be creative. I'm now trying to do a more creative way of organizing. I want to feel like I should touch my stuff, not look at it all lined up soldier style.

I've started labeling everything with round labels with my old typewriter font. I've attached them to jars with black and white checked ribbon. I've been digging out different old jars and spraying the lids black. (Yeah, it's going to be organized in color. LOL)

I still need to collect a lot more larger jars to put chipboard in.

nantini-i'm feeling you on the it's too clean to be creative...

that thought has crossed my mind more than once. i need to find a balance between clean and cluttered/chaos and creativity-i just haven't yet.

i've boxed up just about everything... all that's in there right now is the weeks that we've done, aside from a few boxes in the closet. i thought i knew where i going with this, but... well, apparently not.

Crisann maybe that's the hidden gem of all this organization. It does seem like it's an evolution of our personal touches. We start out by the rules, then our inner self takes over. LOL

nantini-always a possibility. i've already decided that i don't like when things are out of sight. i like to see everything... too clean is just not me. there's a certain element of clutter/chaos that inevitable.

I thought that I would be further along than I am. I have decided to purge more than I thought that I would purge. I am questioning things more than I thought I needed to. This venture has taken me entirely in another direction. I am going to purge down to a really small supply instead of the huge stash I have now. I really didn't think I would go that direction. I just thought I would reorganize primarily.

This is actually one category that I don't have enough of. I love ribbon. Yet I tend to only buy solids. I always end up at crops finding the perfect patterned ribbon in someone else's stash! Luckily I have the best group of cropping friends and we trade often. But I would like to get more patterned ribbons. I just never see the possibilities when I'm the one buying it.

Most of the time my space is cluttered but you know I'm finding that because I can put stuff away easier I'm forming a new habit which is make a HUGE mess when I'm doing a project, drag everything out. It might stay out for a while until I decide I'm done working on that project and then I wipe the slate clean for the next project. I find the cleanliness inspires me to be creative and make a big mess again, instead of being overwhelmed by it all or feeling I can't get it messy or I'll never get it clean again, I'm finding that there's chaotic don't know where to put anything mess and then there is organized mess. With organized mess I'm at peace and can still be creative.

I was just reading through the three earlier weeks, and it's funny, it feels like A G E S ago!

QOTW: Yes, I believe I'm on the right track. It's slower going than I thought, I have turned a blind eye to one category I was so sure I would tackle (photos), and I'm constantly buying the wrong containers for my supplies.

That griping out of the way, I've made quite a bit of progress with putting like with like. It's nice to see all items of one type together rather than spread all around. I look forward to each new week and I see progress which is urging me on. I don't expect much visible change, rather in how the space works for me when I scrapbook. And it's slowly getting there.

Tomorrow I'm going to my second all-day crop. I'm excited!

Oh, and I'm done with ribbons I spend a day wrapping them and putting small elastics around them about two weeks ago. Now they live in color sorted harmony in glass jars.

So I decided today to clean out one of the closets in my scrap space to make room for growing and was quite surprised how much of what was in there was garbage and that there was a lot of empty storage containers. I also found some stuff that I didn't realise I had like a container of really pretty ribbon and a full jar of copper embossing powder which is really good because I was almost out and would have gone to buy more. I also found a box of really cool vintage buttons and other embellishments. I also found more stickers. I'm starting to think I should have done the overhaul thing. I hate finding things after I've already organized it.

I'm with you elinemom, I'm also avoiding the photos. They sit there staring at me, taunting me.

My photos taunt me too! Still happily ignoring them. I've decided how I want to organize them, which was huge. But now I have to come up with the time and money.

There's not much for me to do with ribbons, threads, and fibers. I don't have many. Those I do I roll up individually, put them in very small zipper bags, and throw them in my embellishment drawers by color. It's super easy to set-up, maintain, and especially use!

It works for me because I don't have near the stash most of you do

Ribbons are mostly already done. I am a mobile scrapper going to crops at least once a month, so OCD Me has put most of them all ready on thread cards in a fishing tackle box. ....I did go to Fred Meyer (our area's Kroger box) and get a cool glass jar for the dollar spools of ribbon that I get...just because they are .99

Now they look pretty until I get them wrapped too...now to wrk on this week's layout and think about the horrors? that is stamps...

Question of the Week: Remember during the first three weeks of this challenge when we worked through the space audit/brainstorming/clean slate challenges? Is your studio transforming into what you envisioned or have you changed directions along the way?

My vision of my own room is unachievable given the current space issues but part of that vision was a bedroom that looked like a bedroom and that is happening. The bed is cleaned off most of the time (not just right before bed when everything got dumped on the floor) and I've managed to get some of the elements of my studio vision in.

I put my ribbon on ribbon rings sorted by colour at Christmas so it's sorted. Now as soon as I get my hanging embellishment organiser made I can retrieve a few binder rings (the box of them has not yet appeared). Then I can split the gigantic ones up. I posted yesterday on my blog about how that's going.

KathrynPea: Wow, what a route. Go for it

Jen: That's how I work huge mess. Clean. Huge mess. I love it that way! I hear you on the finding things. stuff keeps showing up. On the positive side once things float up I know where to put them.

Hope everyone's having a great weekend

Oh, next week's stamps?!
My smugness at having ribbons just vaporized! ...breathe...in...out... calmly...

Thinking back, I believe it was this week that threw me off the first round of the challenge. I have about 5% of my stamps in an index - didn't get it to work and got off the wagon.

Sorry, got a little sidetracked here.

It sounds like everybody is making progress, which is fabulous! Jen, do you have any tips on playing with glimmer mist? I just won a bottle at the crop I attended today. It looks cool but a little intimidating.

carolyn, I'm sure your rings will turn up, the secret convention is over - mine appeared again last week

Hilde,

I've been on a Glimmer Mist.... I don't even know what you call it, but I've been Glimmer Misting every thing right now. My favorite thing to do right now is misting white Prima flowers. I found to mist paper to prevent warping you can add about a tsp of rubbing alcohol into the bottle, it makes the water evaporate faster and thus not warping the paper as much (because it dries faster you may have to declog the spray nozzle once and a while). I've also misted ribbon and lace, chipboard. When I use Glimmer screens I spray stencil(or temperary adhesive) spray on the backside of the screen to give nice crisp edges, it can be washed off the screens with soap and water after.

Thanks Jen and Hilde ... now I have to jump on the Glimmer Mist bandwagon. I don't do well with peer pressure!

I keep reading about it here, but have yet to check it out. I don't have any local scrap stores, so where do I purchase it? Does 2Peas carry it or a similar product?

I'm taking photos of my ribbon and stuff today and will post later.

Sorry everybody not interested in glimmer mist....
Lisa, I searched for glimmer mist under shopping and it returned 8 pages of products... I'm thinking "Step away from the glimmer mist"...

According to a friend, there are youtube videos of using these sprays. I haven't had time to check it out, but I sprayed a white paper flower and it turned out very cool.

But I'm trying to contain my excitement, as the last thing I need is a whole new category to organize

Crisann, oh no! What's that - glimmer mists fit an already existing category???? And here I was, trying to convince myslef that a new category means more work, means I have a reason not buying more... Well, on the other hand, I DO have room to grow my stash of paints and such.... hm...

I just stopped by to apologize for not posting progress photos earlier. I've posted three photos, covering three weeks (and they're very similar...) over in the gallery.

In Norway, it's soon time for bed... good night, and happy organizing!

I'm so behind in this challenge, it's embarrassing. On the bright side, I started organizing my ribbon and fibers months ago. I'm down to the last hundred or so ribbons to wrap and store.

My room is starting to look like I want it to. It's been a long, slow road but I'm happy when I look and see how far I've come. I'd be even happier if I could keep up with this challenge!

Sorry for going way off topic with the Glimmer Mist, But look out when we hit that week!

I have now decided that the lace will stay in the drawer that it is in instead of joining my ribbon in the little zip bags. At least I am aware that is there now, so hopefully I will use it more, especially since putting lace on everything is so popular right now.

As we were driving into our garage today I saw a shelf unit that I had taken out of my scraproom, thinking it just didn't fit anywhere,(I was so sad to take it out because it's a really cute shelf and fits a lot of my little bottles), but as I looked at it I had a brain wave as to where it could go. I am so excited to put it back in the room!!!

Hi all!

I got a little destracted from our challenge due to some studiing for work At least I can say it is a lot easier to do since my computer sits on the bureau I use for crafting also. And since it is cleared out mostly now, it is a joy to use also for writing in workbooks and so on. (Although I would rather craft but hey, it can't be happy hour all year long can it...)

So for fibers and ribbons this week: I have quite a few, and they're in boxes. I'm pretty sure they will stay there. I know where they are and I use them very often, so no need to display them somewhere like stickers and so. I think I will look out for some of that smal elastic bindings mentioned in the treads. I can then discard all those spools that take up so much space...

My room is slowly getting organized and I learned what was the biggest (i hope)problem why i did not scrap very much..my stuf was al over the place. So organizing must do the trick.

As for ribbon it was in a few different places.
on spools wich did work because I can see them. Smal piece where in a jar. ribbons on cards and felt ribbon in a plastic container and the rest in a container where I drilled holes in, it did not work because the last 3 are out of sight and I forget to use them
I decided to rol them all up and tie them with a smal ruber hair band and put them in glas jars. unfortunatly I only have 2 of these candy jars (found at a flea market, one did hold my flowers wich are now in an open glas jar so I can grab them quickly) I mixed blues, greens and purple ribbon in one and the other holds pink, red, orange, and white, black and brown.

pic's 1 and 2 are now the rest is before

the fiber is in a big basket all tangled up.. do not know what to do with it yet..

Here's a picture of my ribbons and fibers. I've posted a picture before of my ribbon storage, its in my gallery, but I've moved them to thier new home in the closet. So I'm finished for this week and doing some prep for next week. My lace is in a Sterilite drawer that's under my work station, my thead is in drawer units by my sewing machines and my embroidery thread is in the closet that I just overhauled( I don't use it much so it gets a place of less priority). Also, I did manage to tackle some of my pictures from week 6. Not that they are in the right order but I did get all of my loose photos into regular photo albums, and seperated the memorabelia.

Ohhh HL has all their glass storage stuff in the craft dept 50% off. I got a few more of the black lidded containers (in my gallery) and 5 of the old fashioned slanted big mouth candy jars. Just a little tid bit for those that needed some storage items.

Also in the garden dept I got the cutest little pails. They come in hot pink, green, red, yellow, and black. They are much larger than than the dollar spot ones, and at 40% off 2.99 how can you resist.

Martine-peatime, I found the hair elastics in an African hair shop (meant for those itty bitty plaits). They look very similar to elastics used for braces, so you might find some in a drug store, too.

Loved everybody's photos. It's so inspiring to see how you are progressing through the challenge!

Glimmer Mist is great stuff but, make sure you plan to store the bottles standing up. The nozzles clog if they are laid on there sides. Found that one out the hard way.

Thank goodness I don't have to do anything this week for ribbons. Still working on projects, embellishments, stickers and rubons!

I really love the look of the ribbons in glass jars, but since I mostly crop away from home, it's not very practical.

My ribbons are stored in a ribbon bag that I got for Christmas a couple years ago. It was a royal pain putting the ribbon in, but it's easy to use now. I'll have to get a picture to post - when I dig my camera out of my scrapping bag. I went for a scrapbook weekend and haven't unpacked anything.

For the QOTW - Is your studio transforming into what you envisioned or have you changed directions along the way?

I'd say that I'm making a teeny bit of progress. Although, there really hasn't been a lot of visible changes in my room since most of my stuff is out of sight. And the weeks I haven't tackled yet, I do have an idea of where I want to go with it.

ETA: I'm up for the stamp count challenge. I have a ton. Maybe I should get started on that this week!

Eclectic-stuff, how right you are about storing GM I also found this out. Mine are back on the shelf I thought I'd get rid of that's now back in my space, all lined up like soldiers.

Looking forward to having you on board with the stamp count weaser.

Just before stamps are going to step in, a small "ribbons revisited" for me...

I told you earlier my ribbon is in boxes. I realized that's not entirly true... Most of my lace and ribbon is in those boxes, and I'm still considering to unwind the spools I have to save space. What was on cards is still on cards and they are gonna stay that way. Someday when we win the lotery and I can have a much larger room in that dreamhouse, I will do that "clothespins in glassjars" idea, but for now this will do.
I have tree glass jars on my desk with some colour sorted ribbon. I must say it is not the ribbon I use very often, because its a little tangled and twisted etcetera. And to top it of I have a candyjar on my desk with all those little offcuts that remain after finishing a project. This helps me to use them before I get those boxes out.

Fibers.... I don't use them often. Partly because I love to use ribbon and lace more. Another major reason: it's in a plastic box that supports my computerscreen in the corner of my desk.... So easy acces not so much... I'm looking for something cheap but sturdy and good looking also to support my screen, but did not find it so far.

QOTW: I have bought the Expedit. I had never thought to do that before I did enter this challenge. I'm so happy with it 'cause it is so easy to store thins now. My room looks larger someway now I changed my furniture arrangements. My room defenitely looks less cluttered and I love it, cleaning up my desk after crafting is so much easier. And now I actually clean up my desk for that reason. Before I didn't bother....

And now: stamps... I do have some, but I will never win the upcoming number contest I'm affraid

Not that I don't have stamps but, I think I will pass on the upcoming stamp challenge.

Before moving on I would like to pass along this link I found on the original organisation challenge in case anyone missed it . She has some great ideas!

I bought more clothes pins. I bought more straight pins. I got all the rest of my ribbon in my basket downstairs so I could wind while I'm watching TV. Last night, I decided to split up my brads and eyelets into two different drawers. The empty (so I thought) drawer that I opened to put the brads into had more ribbon in it!!! ARGGGGG!!! I thought I was almost done! I can't believe I have more of this stuff. When did I get so much? Are any of you ladies sneaking ribbon into my scrap room?!

Lost a few weeks here due to a 10-day vacation to Florida, but I'm getting back on track. I've finally updated my blog with the photos I took right before Spring break.

This was an easy week for me since my ribbon and fibers were already organized and working in my space. Off to tackle weeks 13, 14 and 15!

I haven't been an official member of the organizing team but I really appreciate everyone sharing their ideas and pictures!!

Due to health problems it takes me a long time to complete a task...this works because I can still read up on what every one has already done and seeing pictures really helps me visualize it!!

I think by being organized it would cut down on a lot of my stress! I've also realized that I seem to do a lot of scrapping and crafty stuff by theme...holidays, birthdays...etc. so I'm going to try to organize some of my stuff that way too. It seems to work better for me and I've very limited on space so the better organized I can be the better!

Keep sharing your ideas ladies!! Thanks!!

McLisa, great to see your pictures. It looks so pretty and organised! Keeping up with us is not such a large hurdle to take this way I believe!

Suni19, I think this is what we all like about this challenge. You can do all of the organising in small steps and it doesn't have to happen in one week either. I'm now half way this challenge and have benefit the new lay out of my space and the new storage already. It is so easy to find the right stuff in direct reach and it makes cleaning up so easy. I think that last point, the easy cleaning up of my desk space, is the best part. I can now see my desk at any time, and even when I'm in a hurry, I can make something quick, leave the stuff as it is and go to the occaision I had to make that tag/ card/ anything, come back, clean up in 1 minute and be ready to make something else....
Before this challenge my desk was cluttered all the time, so NOT inviting to craft...

Ok, so this one was worse than I thought. I really don't have all that much ribbon compared to most, but it was a process in itself to put it together like I wanted it. I had the loose ribbon in silverware separators on my shelf and the rolled ribbon in an old cookie container from costco (yes, the plastic one with the lid that pops off). Not so horrible over all, but not as effective as I would have liked. So...fast forward to my hubby finding the shelving unit with the dowels from MM and at 50% off too! Awesome buy, right? Not so much as it turns out. The product is kind of shoddily made (which totally surprises me!) and the dowels only actually held five of my rolls of ribbon - the rest of the rolls wouldn't go on because the dowel was too big. Sigh...frustration sets in because I do not live in town and couldn't just run to the store to get a smaller size dowel. Pooh. So, my wonderful DH (and I say this with much affection as I know it nearly killed his masculinity to do this) took his trusty drill and...yes, he did...drilled bigger holes in the centers of my ribbon spools so they would go on the dowel. So...put the rolls on the dowel, and the end cap that screws onto the dowel is weak so keeps falling off. Grrr again. I hung it up anyway. Then I just took some binder clips and rings and hung my loose ribbon the way you see it according to color. I must confess that this was not my original idea; I saw it on a blog, but I cannot remember where (I'm so sorry, but thank you so much for the inspiration! I truly love you.) so I thought, "hey, I can do that." I LOVE THIS. Hung my alphas too. So, all in all, a very frustrating product but love the end result. My loose ribbon that is in huge quantity and my raffia, paper ribbon is in the jars and planters on the top of the shelf. When harvest is through (which is months away) I will have DH make me something similar because I really do like the look and love the way it organizes my ribbons. Thanks for looking!

I just can't make myself talk my ribbons off their spools... so I purchased some white gutters (the kind you put on the outside of your house) I bought the vinyl ones instead of metel... I hung them on the wall and put all my spools of ribbon in that with a little of each ribbon hanging over the side... not only is it a perfect way for me.... but it also adds "decoration" to the room!! LOVE IT!
