Just wondering.

I remember when it was the cool thing to do, and sometimes I see them as avatar photos...but I thought they were all but extinct these days!

but I was watching millionaire matchmaking, and am checking out their website, and they specifically reject photos from glamour shots.

So what is your opinion on them?

I never had one done. I always thought they made the person look like they were trying too hard - KWIM? Just not natural.

Happy now?

Well, my first thought, based on your title was: "God, I hope not."

I always thought they looked terrible. The women looked like beauty pageant contestants, with the too-heavy makeup and the unnatural poses. And that gauzy sheen over the picture...

It was super trendy when Sara was in jr. high. Not ultra glamour but dress up, lots of makeup, smoky finish. Then the friends would trade them all. Her biomom paid for that nonsense.

One of our local malls has a store still, and it's always empty. I thought these were out of style like in the 90's?!

MIL took Miss Lerin there once, and had easter pics taken (maybe 2 years ago) and they were the worst pics I've ever seen... and she didn't let them glam her up, she just took her there bc they had live bunnies as props for the pics. They were AWFUL, and Lerin is pretty photogenic.

My grandmother had them done once--they turned out gorgeous. Some of them could be really cheesy, but I'm happy to have those pretty photos of her now.

I think their a hoot. But am not fond of them. Except for amusement purposes. I'm suprised they don't have a spoof blog just for them. We could look at pages and pages of glamour shots from all over the country.

Saying all that.... for some reason.... I think on older women? They look pretty good. Maybe when I'm 65 or so, I just might get one.

My brother and his then girlfriend (now wife) had pictures taken there once. the only reason they went there is because girlfriend had bad acne and they photoshopped or whatever they did to her to make her skin look decent.

Neither of them look normal in the picture especiall my brother. He looked plastic-y or something. She, however, loves the picture because she looks like she has flawless skin. Its still funny how whenever she needs a picture of the two of them for something she gets that one, even tho its about 5 years old or more. (and she looks NOTHING like that in real life)

I had them done a looooong time ago, back when everyone did! I'm actually glad to say I did it because it's just another part of being a teen in the 90s!! There is a Glamour Shots in our mall. Looks like they focus more on kids pictures- like fairy pictures where they dress them up as fairies. I've never really noticed how busy they are because I usually try to only go to the mall when it's fairly empty, but they are still in business!

I never thought of something like that as a glamour shot. More on these lines....

or this

Ok, now that I look at the pretty older lady with the feather boa.... ... not going to be getting one when I'm 65.

I've only gotten them done once, 3 1/2 yrs. ago, for my DH for our 10th wedding anniversary. I did tasteful lingerie/night gown/matching bra and boy shorts. I love the way they turned out.

No crazy feather boas and hats for me. They made me look very natural. Nothing crazy. I wanted to look like myself for DH.

DD and I did years ago. She liked (then) how "grown-up" she looked. She was 14, and except the hair (she dyes it darker than her normal color) pretty accurate for her now being 24.

There are a few great photographers working in all sorts of cheesy places and will get a GREAT shot, then there are also thousands that take "snapshots" that have the life "photo-shopped" out of them.

I did a Glamour Shots about 11 years ago for my 40th birthday. They (make-up artist/wardrobe person and hairstylist/photographer) made me over and did some amazing work on my hairstyle. I will never forget how shiney and soft my hair became without shampooing. The clothing/tops they provided for me to wear I would not have ever chosen for myself (think What to Wear show) but it worked. My dh still displays a couple of the photos. Overall, I think it was worth the money.

All the places round here that did it seem to be gone. Thank goodness. I never knew anyone who had it done. I think they are naff.

dd had some done in her bfs hockey jersey a couple of years ago and they were really cute. I went along with her and it was quite different than it was even 10 years ago. They did her hair and makeup but she was told to bring her own clothes and she was able to choose her backgrounds. I don't think they are as cheesy as they used to be. I know some hs kids actually get their senior pix done there.

We did it when dd was 6. She had fun dressing up and having her hair curled. That was 7 years ago.

There is still one in an area mall. Never looks busy, but I do see the big signs for the fairy shots and some other themed type things.

I had some done when I was 18. They made me look 40 with all the makeup, and I was insisting on minimal makeup. One turned out ok, and dh kept that photo in his office until we got engaged and had other photos taken.

When I was in college, some girls went around the dorm with Glamour Shots fliers and a print out of special cash deals. I was on the third floor, so they had cleaned up before I saw them. The packages/pricing didn't look anything like what I had paid the year before. Soliciting wasn't allowed anyway. I called the campus police, but the girls got away with several hundred dollars. Glamour Shots had nothing to do with their scam. They were really nice and offered deeply discounted packages for those that got scammed.

There was a chain of photo studios in the Chicago area a few years ago that was a lot like Glamour Shots, but they catered to children. Lots of cute props. The place was crowded at first and then business just dried up. I think it had a lot to do with more and more parents getting digital SLRs and takin their own photos.

Haven't done it, but think it would be fun. Right now, I'd love for someone to look at my hair and tell me what's best for me. I had short hair for several years, now it's long. I always wonder if there is a good cut for me that I should stick to. Make sense?

Huh. Well, they list a location in the big mall near us, but I don't think I've ever seen it there.

I never had them, back in the day. I was so jealous of girls who did!

I was invited to one that was done in somone's house. I think it was like, 10 years ago? One turned out okay, but the others? Gold lame and a feather boa? Yick.

I had some done when I was 18. They made me look 40 with all the makeup, and I was insisting on minimal makeup.

I think for the most part you are right. I also think some of the poses are ridiculous.

First they were never meant to be normal studio shots. I had them done in the 90's and they turned out great. They guys at work were all asking for a wallet size. So I signed them and gave them one. Was fun at that age. My SIL had them done. But not much could do her justice. Thankfully now she is ex-SIL.

Would you consider this a glamour shot?

Or this?

These are of my grandson and I love them. I have more on my blog. I would never do one for me but I think for kids they are wonderful.
