candygurl, I routinely use Allison's sketches for one pagers. I use the lefts, rights, and the middles. There is a lot of flexibility in the sketches!
I will be eagerly awaiting Volume 6, rush2scrap! Your team does a great job!

I don't want to be the Debbie Downer, but really? A person needs to have half a dozen sketch books? From the same person?

Shih Tzu Mommy, I don't think you are a Debbie Downer, lol.
I think that each scrapper has different go-to tools for when we create most successfully. For me, Allison Davis sketches are one of my go-to tools and share "prime real estate" on my scrapping table along with my ruler, ATG, and paper cutter.
I enjoy scrapbooking more and get more accomplished using the Allison Davis/Scrapbook Generation sketches and that is why I look forward to subsequent editions.
ETA: I keep all my sketches in one book because I dismantle the books and remove the bindings when I get them. Then I sort the sketches into categories by the number of photos I feel I will use on that sketch. I put them into page protectors and then into a tabbed binder by number of photos per LO.

I like having lots of sketches when I scrap for fun and variety in my albums. I having been a scrapbooker for many years and have always loved sketches since Becky Higgins. Compared to most scrapbookers I am a minimalist in supplies, I have never had to purge because I purchase supplies, make kits, and create all based on a sketch. This processs allows me to create pages faster and without having a huge supply of stuff I will never use.
So I love sketches and especially Allison's and will continue to save time, money and space, and at the same time create beautiful pages with Allison's sketches as long as she continues producing them for us.

I see what you're asking about have 5+ SKETCH BOOKS from the same person, but I guess you could ask the same thing about a year's worth of CK or SBEtc.
For me, it never ceases to amaze me how many combinations you can come up with for a 12x12 area (much less a 12x24 area). While some of her SKETCHES may be SIMILAR, there really is SO MUCH VARIETY in her books, it's worth it to have them all.
If I had to choose between all of my CK's or the 3 AD SKETCHBOOKS I have, I'd choose the SKETCHBOOKS. (And, in my opinion, HER SKETCHES top ANY other SKETCH ARTIST's by a MILE.)

I ordered #5 a couple of days ago. I have found the sketches so incredibly easy to use. They make for quick simple pages.
I used one of the sample sketches from book #2 for this layout a couple of days ago.

And, this afternoon, I adapted this one from a layout shown on their blog.

You're asking a legit question
For me, I bought all 5 mainly because I know I'm going to use the heck out of them. I've followed Ali Davis for years in CK and her blog, and I know beforehand what I'm getting with her books. I LOVE the way she does layouts and it matches my style perfectly. She also uses mostly 4x6 photos or sizes you can crop from 4x6 whereas, say, Becky Higgins uses a variety of photo sizes, enlargements, odd sizes, etc., which I'm not a fan of. Again, I KNOW that the Ali Davis books will get a lot of use at my house whereas I can't say that about other sketch books I've bought.
I also love the idea of sorting them by # of photos so I figure with all 5 books, I'll have a variety of sketches to choose from for any amount of photos I have. These books have only 30 sketches each, as compared to 128 pages in Becky Fleck's book and 202 pages in Best of Becky Higgins, just to give 2 examples. I don't know how many sketches each has, but obviously much more than 30 (and I do feel Ali's books are worth it, and they cost less per book). So in having 5 books at 30 layouts each, that's 150 sketches which doesn't seem outrageous to me.
I also chose to order all 5 at once because the shipping is so reasonable and you're only charged once no matter how many you buy. So I actually SAVED money by ordering all 5 at once At least, that's how I explain things to DH when the box comes, LOL! |
