good evening ladies!

this week we're going to be organizing our tools...

this is one of those weeks that i've already managed to figure out. all of my tool are in clear acrylic glasses. love it!

wookiemouse's blog

original two peas thread

question of the week: what is your one must-have, "can't scrap without" tool..?

my must-have is scissors, sadly... wouldn't get much done without'em, but can get alot done with only them...

Hi everyone,

The tool I can't live without is my paper trimmer.

My tools are somewhat scattered. I have one of those MM carousels for your desk but seemingly I don't put stuff I use in there because I just packed for a weekend crop and I really doesn't look like I took anything out of it. I keep the most used tools right by my work area in a sterlite drawer and I can never find my Exacto knife.

I really should have worked harder on the crop supply week because I'm still packing way too much, and am way too unorganized. Right now I'm up late printing pictures. I leave right after work tomorrow and do not come home in between. I'm feeling a little stressed

Queston of the week...
My go to tool is a pair of Cutter Bee tweezers. They are always out on my scrap table hiding under whatever mess I am currently working on. I tend to grab them to hold embelishments down till the glue dries, to apply glue, poking holes in stuff, pulling ribbon thru eyelets, etc.

Hmm, well I have a lot of organizing to do. First of all I need to find some way to mount my trimmers under my scraptable. They are too big to put in my cube drawers.

I"ve got all the other tools in one drawer, but I'd like to get some plastic trays to seperate them.

Tools this week huh? Well most of my tools are in my PC tool spinning caddy. This works well for most things. I do have a lot of random scattered tools laying around my space though, guess they need to find a home this week. I wish I had drawers built in to my space. That would help so much! As for my most used tools, I have to say my cutterpede paper trimmer. And my paper piercer. I use this on almost every page to poke holes for brads or whatever. Ok so off to sort tools!

I managed to sort my tools during the clean slate week, yea! Using my old PB turntable, which is like the new MM one.

Question: I would have to agree with scissors or paper cutter as must-have tool. These stay on desktop ready to go. Although I now added my scor pal to desk top also.

crisann, I like the idea of clear glasses. Anything visible and I will use it more.

I'd love to see a picture of your glasses Crisann.

My go-to tool?? I would say it's a toss-up between my Fiskars paper trimmer (not that I love it, but I use it all the time!!) or my CM all purpose tool. I LOVE this thing and use it all the time.

My tools are either in my MM carousel or my AMM tote. However, it would be nice if the tote actually fit on the desk vs the floor beside me.

Hi girls found my big punch in the big tool basket... go figure... Do not have to think about where to store that one.

Crissan like to see pics of the glasses

QOTW: That would be my cutting mat and cutting tools (knife, ruler and scissors) They sit in a stone cup right before me together with a little basket that house al sorts of adhesives . The rulers and hand punches stand in a flower pot.
My trimmer is on my desk in between the computer and the workspace. I must admit there's always some stuff ontop of it so I am debating with myself to hang it on the side of the cupboard where I sit. Don't know about that yet...
pens in a flower pot and deco scissers in food can are on top of the Ikea drawers that house my scraps.
Extra adhisive and bigger tools sit in a big basket. I moved it out of the upper cupboard above my workspace and into the extra cupboard on the side of my room since it holds stuff that I do not use very often it makes more sence to me. It always was a drag to get it in and out of the uppper cupboard now it's easy. (This cupboard needs alot of organizing, it worked as my big dump place.. just shoved everything that had no place in there, so I'm not showing the inside with you yet)
Then I have some tools stored with the product there used with like alcohol ink tools and stamping tools.
Happy organizing all of you!

I've spent some time this morning looking over my tools. Earlier in this challenge I organized the tools I use the most. I have a planter type thing filled with rulers, scissors, and adhesives. I keep a MM basic tool set in a drawer near my desk.

It's the less used tools I'm having trouble with. Where to put them? I haven't really decided yet.

My must-have tool I'd say is my Tonic Studio 12 inch guillotine cutter. I can go to crops without it, but barely...

I just had to check in and brag about something:
I have FINALLY started to deal with my photos. I've bought an external hard disk and started putting all my digital photos onto it in chronological order.

Since I've had different cameras and different computers, which are now in various states of disrepair, it's time to do it. I'm still debating how to deal with earlier, film-based photos. Perhaps I'll have the negatives scanned? Has anybody had that done?

Oh, and I've spent the past day browsing a bunch of Norwegian scrapbooking sites, looking for a few tools... Gotta make more work for myself But I so want a work surface like a cutting mat, but B*I*G for crops, a heat gun with a European power plug and a new light weight paper trimmer...

What are you guys up to?

pitje, Happy for you that you found the border punch! It makes sense that you had put it in with Tools when you were sorting.

Hilde, that's a big Congrats on getting some progress on your photos. That is such a big job, but so important.

Working in the yard yesterday and today. Happy weekend all.

I've fallen off the organizing wagon or rather I was pushed. My DGD was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor 5 weeks ago and everything has taken a back seat. I need to get back to this challenge so I thought I would answer this week's QOTW- my most used tool is my paper trimmer and it sits on my desk along with a Pampered Chef tool caddy holding most of my other tools. I got a Cricut for Mother's Day from my DH & need to make room for this awesome tool.

Wow, this was really a great challenge week! I had three, count-em, three, PC holders full of tools, etc. Now I have one. Yay me! I have my heat gun, brayers, several pairs of scissors and a couple of miscellaneous tools in one now and it's heaven! When going through them to condense, I found I had several of the same thing - not sure how that happened, but I went through and am giving some away. That felt good! My adhesives I am keeping in a 9-section sock organizer, just like my stickles and paints, and my xyron 510 is on the shelf next to my tools. This makes it easier for me to have them right at my fingertips. My foam brushes are in the cute canisters on the shelf. Wahoooo!

QOTW:My perfect layers rulers. Never heard of them? They are rulers with notches so that you get perfect borders/ mats on any picture. They are hard to find because they are only on that TV channel that sells stuff all day long...

I LOVE all of the pics that people are putting in!
Thanks pitje and toodiefroodie!

Pitje- don't you hate it when you actually put something where you no it belongs, and then can not find it...because it is put away!

Toodifroodie-you are doing great! I think I saw you catch up like four weeks in one! ..that gives you a gold star for this week

just waiting on Costco to open to get my pics and do my LO!

hilde,

I looked into getting my negatives scanned and the cost was through the roof. I was also looking to get a new scanner, one that has the option to scan your negatives, anyways I asked the price on scanning negatives and they told me I was cheaper off buying the $200 good quality scanner with the negative slide option. So if my boss would stop ordering such tempting scrapbooking supplies (which I have absolutely no willpower to step away from) I think I'll go and get the scanner. I really want those pics dealt with already. I like the idea of having all of the pics on a hard drive in one place so you can know where to look for them.

My tools sit in my totes from the weekend waiting for me to unpack, so I think it actually worked good for this week because they are the tools I use the most and should have front and center position. All the rest can go into secondary places.

Thanks Jen, that's valuable input. I was looking into a good scanner, but was a bit put off by what seemed like many steps to going from a negative to a printable file. Perhaps it's easier than it seemed.

I'm so happy about getting all photos in one place. Putting them on an external, removable hard disk is a plus, too.

Guess what? I found another box of embellishments... I had a hunch I hadn't found everything... and I was right

Has anyone relooked at their scrap space and decided the original setup no longer works? I have those cubes and even with all my supplies pretty much organized I still don't have enough room to do anything on the desk. I guess it's because I drag everything out.

Hilde - good work on those pictures!
Just me - Hope your precious gd is feeling better.
pitje - I found some things misplaced, it makes me so mad to get everything all neat and organized then I find something else I need to add. It seems it never fits! grr
Kris - hope you did well on your exam! I remember those days & nights!
Tootie - great job catching up!

Everyone's doing a great job this week.

So how is it I completely missed that this week was adhesives until I read your blog ScrappinBee?? LOL

My adhesives are *pretty much* in one place. I have a small-ish basket that holds all my "extras". I keep my ATG refills in the box they came in (for now), eventually they will also fit into the basket. Actually, now that I'm down a couple of rolls it may fit ... I'll have to check it out once DS is at school.

My ATG gun stays in my MM carousel/AMM tote - depending on the day and there is one pack of mini glue dots, regular glue dots and pop dots in the carousel or the tote as well.

Oh Nantini I know what your talking about. I also drag everything out when i,m working on a project. All the stuf is out on my desk and there is not very much room left to work. Have no solution for that yet...
I found an acrilic (cook)book stand on a jumble sale. It was standing on my desk (needed to think of a place to put it away...) But then I put my papers, scraps, envelopes, embellies, and other things on it that I was currently working with, that helped a bit because now it's all in one place instead of spread around. Standing up and takes up less room and I can flip trough it pretty easy. I wanted to use it for displaying a LO and to photograph it, it when I find multiple way's to use something.
About the punch it wil stay in with the bigger tools and I hope that I remember the next time that I put it in there. I guess that's the thing about organizing it differently, I just need to adjust to my own new way of thinking...
Elinemom good luck with your box of embellishments hope you can fit them in with the rest.

So Sorry! Just shoot the messanger (and duct tape that POW to the chair!)

I am not sure if putting everything bhind a cabinit door and shutting it counts, so I might be in the do later group too...(if OCD Me has her way).

And yes, whenever I scrap, my desk looks like global thermal nuclear war has occured on my table. However, now I know where to put stuff when I am done!

Also, I love that picture on your blog of the pile of adhesives! Mine are hiding in a box, but they are about the same amount as you have!

what is your one must-have, "can't scrap without" tool..?

I have a room stuffed full with stuff (less since the challenge), so this should be easy for me to narrow down. This is the best I can do. I need my camera to take the pictures, my computer to edit them and my printer to print them. After that I need my trimmer, my ATG, distressing ink and I would like to throw in my cricut for titles. Throw in patterned paper and cardstock and I really don't need anything else. The rest of the stuff is expendable even though I enjoy it enough to keep it around.

Oh, adhesives, um, yeah.

They keep moving from the drawer across the room to the drawer right beside my workspace, but they really don't fit there so they go back to the drawer across the room. Maybe that's what I should do today instead of trying to get my computer to entertain me. Alright I'm off to do my tools and adhesive before the day is over.

Oh and I bought more stamps (I think about 6-8 sets, they were on sale ) and paper at the scrap retreat I was on

I'm getting in here just in time for the next weekly challenge to start.

Favorite tool has to be my micro-tip scissors. Can't work without them!

Most of my tools are spread out in a few places, but I will be re-organizing them to fit in my PC caddy. All my distressing tools will stay in the CTMH distressing kit, along with sponges and daubers. My MM and Fiskar trimmers live on top of my stamp tower storage. I currently use Tombow adhesive but will be switching over to the ATG 714 some time this summer. The Tombow dispenser should fit in the PC caddy and the few remaining refills I have should fit n there also. Not sure where the 714 will go because I have no idea of its actual size and bulk.

I dumped out the contents of the caddy to give it a good cleaning. Did you know that whole thing comes apart into 4 different pieces? I was thinking about spray painting it to match my room, but wasn't sure I could cover the little sections thoroughly. Now that I know it comes apart, the painting idea might be possible. But that will have to wait until the decorating week.

I'm organizing the new contents and will take photos for my blog first thing in the morning.

ScrappnBee - I love my Perfect Layers too!

I feel like my kids when they ask ... "Are we almost there yet?"
