Good evening everyone!

This week we're going to work on what to do with new items and how to keep our newly-organized spaces neat... Well, I've failed this week already, on both accounts. Let's just say, if I were to show you a picture of my scrap space right now, you'd all be extremely disappointed in me, to say the least. I've been very busy in there, though, lately. That counts for something, right?

I am doing really well keeping things neat because I have a system now. This challange has been very beneficial.

Question of the Week: Do you generally keep new things in a specific place for a certain amount of time or immediately integrate them in with the rest of your supplies?

I keep some new items in a certain place for a while because I think it is fun to work with new stuff. They are put away but not in their permanent place. If you walked into my room you wouldn't even notice I got anything new. I have empty drawers from purging so they go in there for a while until I am ready to integrate. It is fun to pull from the goody drawer!

Oh this challenge will be the end of me. I am so bad about keeping up on things. Old stuff is getting organized now finally and I am just not good about putting new stuff away. It sits there for weeks sometimes, months. Maybe I should just start a new stuff bin and it at least sort of has a home (for awhile at least). Maybe I need to stop shopping LOL yeah right No since I started these challenges, it seems like once I got a week completed, then that was it. I haven't been putting new stuff with the old stuff. The new stuff is just out waiting for me to restart the challenges or something. Yeah this isn't good this week....enough rambling...

avonpooh - put a basket in your room to put all the new stuff in...

i put all of my stuff away as soon as i get it home. it's habit.

the only concern i have is that i'm just a messy scrapper. before this week is through, i will post a picture just for entertainment, so you ladies can see what i mean... everything has a home, but i pull stuff out and don't put it away. i usually clean up and start over every few days or so. basically, when it gets to the point that i can't work on my desk, i start putting things away/cleaning up. lol...

I've dropped out a couple of weeks and I'm so happy to be back!
I think it's premature for me to think about keeping the space neat... it kind of needs an intervention

I went back to first principles today and cleaned my desk. From there I will need to get a grip on all NSBR stuff that seems to sneak into the space when I'm not looking.

QOTW: I keep new stuff separate for a while. I like to look at my new stuff. Plus, I keep forgetting what I have in my regular stash... I keep flat new stuff (thickers, flat embellies, etc) in an acrylic menu-holder, which keeps it up-right. Other things go in, or beside, a basket in my Expedit.

Elinemom- I hear you! Just this week I found so much nsbr stuff in my scrapping area. I do share this room as our office, but I found a polo shirt, halloween socks, and a spoon. How does this stuff creep up there? Just ridiculous! Crisann- I am going to put a bin up there for new stuff, but it still needs to be filed away eventually

I tend to put new stuff away as soon as I get home. Everything in my room has a designated space so although new stuff gets mixed in with old, I tend to use the new stuff first (who doesn't like to play with new stuff right? lol) and then it eventually gets incorporated with the rest of the stuff.
I am also one of those people who cannot start a new project until the desk is clean. It is quite ridiculous really because even if I know I will use something in the next project, it still gets put away. In saying that though, despite the clean workspace at the start of a project, I tend to work myself down to only having a 12x12 space with all the bits and pieces I pull out lol.

I love this challenge. I have been following the thread since the start but have never posted.

Cheers,

Sarah

I need to get cleaning my scrapspace in with the other things I need to do. My problem is I do NOT have a system, accept for the laundry (I just do things when i feel like it, wich I mostly don't....)

So that might be my next organisation project, getting my household and things to do in order. Does anyone know a good website to get that under controle???

Thanks all of you who helped with idea's for my slanted wall.
Some one suggested to do an inspiration board and Kris your string (wich would not work the way you discribed, because my computer is there so I have to sit under it.) got me thinking to get me some elastic cord and zigzag it over the space and use it as inspiration board. After reading the post on Wookies blog I thought I even may tuck my new stuf under the strings or hang it on there with clips.
I going to look for brown and blue elastic cord next week.

QOTW I do keep the new stuff in sight for awile currently it hangs on the towel rack I use as clip it up. Before that it was in a bucket on my desk. It can stay there for a long time before organizing it in with the other stuff.

avonpooh - put a basket in your room to put all the new stuff in...

QOW: I keep new stuff on end of desk in a 12 x 12 magazine-type holder. It takes up very little desk area because it stands vertically like CH paper holders. When stuff gets used in layouts, I file the leftovers in appropriate categories.

crisann, You have an excuse to be messy! Aren't you taking a class this summer? That is just hard to keep out of sight if you are going to learn creative stuff!

pitje, Your cords sound interesting. Please share a picture when you get it up.

Kathryn pea has empty drawers! That is really great!

Basket for new stuff sounds good also.

Welcome Sarah

I put my new stuff in my 'do it' box. That's the box that holds UFO's and ones I'm about to start. The new stuff sits on there for a while and then I move it into the rest of the stash. That way I get to play with it while it's still fresh.

There's no specific amount of time for it staying there but after I've finished a couple of the unfinished projects or I buy something else new I change it up.

(If I've never used it before UFO = UnFinished Object)

No I can't believe there is only 4 weeks left!

I've finished the stamp inventory finally. I've enlisted DH to sort out his digital pictures. The picture sorting could take years at this rate. I revisited scraps to clean out a box for the chipboard problem.

And last but not least, the memorabilia is getting sorted. I'll post that on the other thread. This post is getting too long.

I did this challenge the first time around with WookieMouse. My room was already pretty well organized but needed some fine tuning.

My problem now is that I keep bringing new stuff in and I'm running out of storage space especially for ribbon, Prima flowers and patterned paper. I don't want to purge anything because it's all things I want to use.

I've also completed several more albums and don't have space for many more in this little scrapbook room.

It's mind boggling to me how I can fill up an empty space.

QOTW: I always try to put it away. I can't stand having things on my desk while I'm working so I have to have them in their permanent spot.

As for the neatness, I'm usually pretty good about staying neat because the mess bugs me. At the moment am trying to redo my homemade clip it up option. It just wasn't working the way I wanted it to, although I did love it!

Hello, hello!!!

We're having a lazy, rainy weekend here so I managed to get my room tidied from all my recent projects. Love, love LOVE all the space I didn't realize I had created!! (YAY me!!)

I had 2 empty drawers as well (YAY Kathryn!!!) so I filled mine up with my "going to the LSS garage sale". We have it twice a year and I always end up with a binful. I like to get stuff ready in bursts though and usually stuff is random throughout the room. These holding drawers will be great to corral things (out of the way ) until I feel like dealing with the labelling and pricing of the stuff.

I also went on a COPIC binge . BUT I had an empty pen holder on my desk. All the COPICS I bought (expect for maybe 5?) fit into this cup holder. So I know I need a bigger cup, but for now, they're organized and on my shelf. The 5 that didn't fit are in the pen drawer.

Elinemom and Avon - Yep. That happens here too. I think because it's also the office is why there's all kinds of stuff dumped into the room. But hopefully I'll be able to keep more on top of it now that it's reasonably clean.... Hope being the key word here

Crisann - So you're still loving the class?? Sounds like it if your room is a disaster

QOTW - Yes, I have 1 basket for new scrapping purchases and (now) 1 basket for just random stuff that comes into the room. I like the basket of new stuff around for awhile to get used to it and to get a really good idea what project I'd use it for. Then eventually it goes with the rest of the stash. The new basket (to corral the randomness) is an awesome idea that I hope works!! I was able to clear out a whole basket AND some horizontal space for it to sit on.

Welcome Sarah!! Glad you finally posted!!

Pitje - The zigzag cord sounds neat!! Can't wait to see what it looks like!

Daisymarie - Would you have room to "upsize" your containers?? If not, the other option would be to store some things away from the min stash. For example, I have a Hallowe'en embelishment basket. If I buy orange ribbon and I can't fit it with the ribbon, I'll try and fit it with Hallowe'en.

Good for you Eclectic Stuff!! Sounds like you're really making progress!!

So who are we missing??? I haven't seen ScrappingBee and Nantini in weeks ... has anyone else??

I posted some pictures in the gallery. Had to compare the before disaster to how it looks today after the clean up. One more "section" to go I think it needs a good purge actually ... but I don't think I can bear to do it!

Hi everyone!

I've been MIA for a few weeks and need to get back in the swing of things. The last week of school for the girls really threw me off course, and then we left on vacation the following day. Just returned last night and can't wait to get back into everything. I'm way behind here and over at BPS in the 52 Card Pick Up class.

Not sure where to start, so I'm just jumping in at BPS, making more of a mess of my space, then will go back through the past few weeks of the challenge. Not sure where I left off, but I'll probably post here first, the back track until something is familiar.

Send a friendly nudge my way to get me moving and keep me motivated!

Glad you're back with us McLisa We still have 1 1/2 days of school left here ... but DS has "had enough" of school and it's getting to be more and more of a struggle to get him out the door in the mornings.

Have fun catching up!! And who knows - even if you're making a huge mess, it might be easier to clean up as you may have space you didn't know you had!!

Well sit right here beside me. My scraproom looks like a tornado hit it. I've practically abandoned it by the looks of it. After my shopping spree at GASC I've resorted to not shopping again for anything but adhesive. And yes, it's all stacked up, I mean thrown on the floor, table, etc.

Crisann, I understand.

I found a scrapbooking store on the last day of their going out of business on the Saturday. 70% off everything in the store and it wasn't junky! (She claimed personal issues1?) Tons of new product.

Oh my, I'm buried alive again now.

eclectic stuff - if you don't want it all, i'll take some...

actually, funny thing... not too long ago, s/o & i were down at his parent's and my future mil made a comment about me being screwed if we ever have a baby... i'd lose my room. little does she know, i'm already saving to finish our enclosed porch. lol... i will never lose my space.
no way/no how.

oh, and just for fun - here's another picture of my mess. i'll even post this one in color... my studio has been in various states of disarray for weeks now. i honesly can't even see my desk most of the time at this point.

and for anyone who's curious what i've been up to in there lately, one of my most recent projects:

on that note, we definitely need to keep a weekly/monthly thread when this challenge is all said and done to share news/projects...

is anyone else working on anything right now?

if any of you ladies are interested, bps is offering a free "big idea festival," starting 08/12/10... it sounds like a lot of fun. you have to create an account, which is free...

pennyscraps posted a thread on this board about it as well, which may have more information.

13 days of ideas/inspiration from various bps instructors - may flaum, nic howard, and stacy julian - just to name a few...

Interesting idea, that idea festival. I signed up when I signed up for Camp Scrap. Yep. Pretty much waiting till the last second. But hopefully I'll get a chance to catch up. I was *supposed* to have a nice short week - done today for the week. BUT bossman decided to schedule some interviews for Friday (which was supposed to be my Canada Day) *sigh* Oh well. I have an extra day's pay this week I guess ...

Glad to see some of the MIA's posting again But the more important thing ... for all you shopper's. What have you been buying??? I need to be drooling over something scrappy related as I haven't bought much .. well, since the copic binge a few weeks back
