I really don't want to go stand in line at the apple store - which is 2 hours away!
How can I purchase an ipad online and still get the tax break?

Right . . . where I ought to be!

No need to stand in line. They may not have them anyway! Many of the stores are sold out. I thought about buying online but it was going to take 3 weeks to ship and they don't count it as sold until it's shipped!

Here's what ds did and suggested I do as well. I called the store nearest me -- also 2 hours away at the time -- and scheduled an appointment to pick one up. That way you go in and get waited on at your appointed time and the ipad will be waiting for you. The store I got mine at was out of them, ordered mine, and scheduled my appointment right away. I got lucky -- mine came in the day after I ordered it because they were already getting a shipment. This way, though, one was reserved for me.

btw, I absolutely love mine!!

Does your state's tax-free weekend cover an ipad? Maryland has only done this a few times, so I have no idea.

Apple has participated in tax-free weekends in the past, even w/online purchases. I don't know if the iPad would apply to that, though.

When I bought my iPad, I walked in the store and had to place an order. Although they did have certain models on stock. There were no lines.

I ended up buying a more expensive one in order not to wait. I would call the Apple store and ask how they are handling it.

In Texas, an iPad wouldn't qualify. The individual items have to be under $100 to qualify.

***ETA I looked up NC and computers do qualify! Y'all are lucky. They have to be no more than $3500 which is pretty easy to do these days.

It is covered under the NC tax free rules. I would definitely call and set up an appointment and hope it isn't too late for you.

The list to get an iPad/iPhone held for you is no longer in effect. Everything is first come/first served.

What is this tax-free weekend you speak of? This California girl has never heard of such a thing!
