Sort of veering off topic a little bit, but I enjoy scrapping a lot more w/o the scrap celebs. We can scrap the way we want to w/o feeling handslapped by CK's A list, because we used a sticker or a deco scissor. Honestly, most people who see my work don't know from scrap celebrities. So, why am I competing w/invisible influences? DD's contract is ludicrous and I'm surprised that she has a business. If I wanted to gamble w/my money I'd go to Vegas.

I'm sorry. This is the NSBR board.

Um, this whole thread is about DD and Inspire events and LB, etc.

You don't think it's all a little SB related?

Um, I think she was being facetious, Shelly.

I also think its one thing to post here and snicker, but entirely another to run her down on her own blog and type a bunch of crap. Smacks of cyber bullying to me and I think its mean girl bullshit at this point.

I agree. It just rubs me the wrong way too.

She was wrong. Multiple times. That is true. She is apparently not a nice person either. If it bothers you (and it does bother me)-choose not to support her business. Warn others, if you feel it's necessary. Have a discussion here and laugh about it. But beyond that- it just seems too much like bullying.

For those asking what dd can do. What has she done? She has done nothing but use some empty words, make the refund via pay pal, and throw a six pack under a chair.

BFD. She has the same refund policy, she has her apologist come on here with the famous last words "Enough," and goes on her merry way.

Sad part is, if she did have a shred of human compassion at this point, no one would ever believe her.

It sure would have been nice for DD to go the distance when she messed up. She did a half-ass job of apologizing, threw some beer under a chair , and didn't fully refund Sharon. 2Peasinabucket did more for Sharon than Donna did, and they weren't even a guilty party! The least that Donna could have done would be to invite Sharon to be her guest at another event. That certainly would have shown some goodwill.

And you would think Donna would change the policy on her no refunds in the event of her absence or whatever after everyone expressed shock about it. I could see having a non-refundable deposit because she needs to pay for the space or whatever, but she shouldn't get to reap the rewards if she doesn't show up.

Since I was not around here during the time of the original DDD, besides the original thread, I just went back to read s/o threads. I thought this was pretty well said, to the question about when is someone forgiven.

Thread:
DDD Spinoff thread

My question: when is someone forgiven?

Here is my thought process on forgiveness in this situation.

If Donna Downey was my friend I would try my best to resolve the issues between us and work on forgiveness.

I have different feelings about DD the *BUSINESS* Two years ago Office Depot treated me very poorly as a customer. After many emails, phone calls and working my way up to the regional manager I informed them I would no longer do business with them and I haven't set foot in their door since.

In that two years I have purchased three laptops, started a business and sent two kids to college. Care to think how much $$ I spent elsewhere?!

It takes a lot to push me over that line, but once I'm there with a *BUSINESS* I don't go back. Especially in this economy where so many companies are doing backflips to survive.

I will preface my comments by saying that I haven't gone to dd's blog. I read the comments that were c&p here. I don't see anything wrong with what was said there. Above it says "Warn others, if you feel it's necessary." That's what I see as the purpose of posting in the comments on her blog. Warning others.

That slap was just too bizarre. I never was a LB fan - there was just something about her that bothered me but that slap just confirmed my initial impression of her.

FTR, whether or not you like dd, forgive her or whatever that cancellation policy is unacceptable. I won't shop at a store that does not allow cash refunds. Why anyone in their right mind would send money for an event that she can cancel and keep your money is beyond me.

So my decision to boycott dd is based on her business practices and policy, not on my " feelings" that she is a cold hearted b@tech.

^^^^ That.

I understand the no refund policy after a certain date (though personally I think it should be closer to the event), but I would think that a "if we can sell your spot to someone else you will get XXX amount returned."

I don't get the whole "I can cancel for any reason and keep your money." I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't so all encompassing, but man.

What really throws me off about the slap is her saying "I just had to take the opportunity". The opportunity to slap someone on TV? Maybe something happened backstage before the show started. I don't know. It's just so odd because from what we see it was unprovoked.

On the bright side, David handled it very well, didn't he? Just kept right on selling.

I agree.

It kinda reminds me of a time my egghead sociology prof came up to me and a few friends and said/did something he thought would be funny, and it came off condescending (it was a joke about a mag we were looking at, and then he tossed a different mag at us and said we should 'read this instead.') He meant no real harm, but he's so awkward and not good at that kind of spontaneous humour that it fell flat and we were offended.

LB was trying too hard to be cute and playful and struck out.

I think its wise to remind/warn others (here) of the business practices that were exhibited during that time. Buyer beware and all that. On the other hand, I see it as a little overly invested to go out of your way to post on her blog...do not repay evil with evil and all that. Just my personal philosophy.

I don't think there is jealousy at the root, however... think disgust is more accurate.

That video is weird! I was expecting, I reallydont know what I was expecting.

LB slapped him because the opportunity presented itself? What a stupid thing to say!

If you were to chat with Lisa at CHA and you slapped her like that, would she laugh and carry on? Even if you said"the opportunity presented itself" do you think she would be okay with it?

Yes she looked off. But when you are in business and your brand is dependent on YOU and what you portray you do not get to be off!

Wow I am surprised she even thought that would be funny.

As to the forgive and forget.
Normally you would forgive after a heartfelt apology is issued. DD never did that. Her apology was lame and tried to shift blame back on to Sharon.
Forget: nope. If a business screws me over, gives a calculated apology to make me feel bad, then does not refund the full amount of money, I will not forget. I will remember, and I will let others know of the poor business decisions.
If a friend did this to me, you can bet that friendship would be over.

My money I get to spend it where I want. That is the beauty of corporate America. Capatalist society. Decide where you want to spend your money.

For me that will not be on Donna Downey products.

There is a huge difference between making a mistake (an unintentional act) and an uncaring, deliberate act of double dipping (plus other uncaring policies). Her, then, attempt at a public apology, that came across as insincere, and her horrendous "refund" policy that has not changed shows her lack of concern for her customers. This was NOT an unintentional mistake.

Jealousy of someone who continues to not care about their customers. I don't think so. That is so laughable.

For those that don't understand the uproar...
This is not about someone who made a mistake and corrected it.

Donna is a person who:

1. allowed someone to sell their tickets just months before

2. refused to refund someone who couldn't attend the event because she needed unexpected life saving surgery at the same time of the event

3. would not allow her to sell the ticket

4. would not allow her to give the ticket away

5. maybe because she had a list of people waiting to unknowingly pay again for this seat that was already paid for?

6. berated Sharon for not keeping quiet about how Donna treated her

7. was rude to people sticking up for Sharon

8. ONLY after Donna's sponsors and business contacts were made aware of how she was behaving and the uproar heard 'round the world, did she agree to refund Sharon

9. as she refunded Sharon's money she took the opportunity to get one final swipe in at Sharon, by going against her usual procedure and not refunding to the original credit card used and refunded through PayPal which Donna knew would take a chunk from the refund.

10. Claimed Sharon was refunded in full.

Those are not the actions of someone trying to correct a mistake.

I've wondered about the slap video and I gotta say, I'm more perplexed than ever. What was that? Wholly random, Batman.

As for DD, I've read all the pages of all the threads. I don't buy her products, period. I don't buy products from companies that she has designs/contracts with, no matter how much I like their stuff. It's just a personal preference. I don't expect my lack of funding to affect her bottom line, but when my someone asks me why, I tell them the basics. And everyone who's asked has said they won't buy her stuff, either. I don't wish her ill will, just don't feel the need to support her "business".

Unbelievable!
Ya know, I had NO problem dropping CK when that whole fiasco went down. And I don't look twice at anything Heide Swapp puts out there. So it won't even be a stretch for me to cross DD off my list of things to buy. That goes for the companies that sponsor her events as well.

and also this

I agree with whomever said that DD needs to give Stacy Jullian a call and see how the whole "So There" fiasco worked out for her. Wait, where is Stacy these days??? Hummm....
