I think it will be quite interesting to see if the next Inspired event, which opened for registration on August 7, sells out...

In this economy, she sure does seem to think she's worth it. It's the epitome of the whole overdone "dream, inspire, create, live, laugh, love, remember,"...slap a flower and some paint on it and call it "creative".

But man, they're GROSS. I don't want to look at that thing

Funniest damn thing on this thread!!! Thanks for coming out.

The LSS I go to does not stock DD anymore. HMMMM, guess a little bird told the owner about the DDD (donna downey debacle)

Truthfully, I am amazed that she is still wearing a business hat. Amazed she is still in business.

There will not be one penny spent from my budget on her 'stuff'. I don't even find it that nice to begin with. It isn't my style. If it was, I would change that quickly.

Down with DD!!!

I've thought DD was greedy after hawking her daughter's stuff. DD's husband quit his job to work for her, he has posted here advertising for her (not revealing who he is). I think her husband should have kept his day job.

That policy is still quite restrictive because no refunds are available after six months before the date of the event. That still would not have helped in Sharon's situation or really in any medical emergency.

Refunds will be credited to the same card used for the initial transaction. Full refunds will be given until October 1, 2010. A $250 cancellation fee will be charged until November 1st, after that date refunds will not be given.

Hotel and travel cancellations are not the responsibility of Inspired. Artist Workshop

fully transferable and at the students discretion.

The participant agrees and acknowledges that the Event may be canceled due to acts of God, strikes, fires, floods, explosions, acts of war, civil disorders, acts of government agencies or authorities, other enemy action, illness, or other causes beyond Downey's reasonable control. If the Event is canceled due to such a cause, the participant agrees and acknowledges that no refund of any portion of the payment for the Event shall be made and Downey shall have no liability whatsoever to the participant

WTH does the bolded portion mean?

I think it's a case of bad spacing and bad wording. I *think* it means Artist Workshop fully transferable at the student's discretion meaning that now that she's gone through this hell we've put her through , she'll let other people transfer their seat to someone else of their choosing. I might be wrong though.

Thats the part I dont get. The student cant cancel after a certain date for any reason, but DD can cancel for any reason and she gets to keep all the money. Some how that does seem right. That is why I asked if all of those types of classes had that kind of policy?

On her cancellation policy:

The participant agrees and acknowledges that the Event may be canceled due to acts of God, strikes, fires, floods, explosions, acts of war, civil disorders, acts of government agencies or authorities, other enemy action, illness, or other causes beyond Downey's reasonable control. If the Event is canceled due to such a cause, the participant agrees and acknowledges that no refund of any portion of the payment for the Event shall be made and Downey shall have no liability whatsoever to the participant.

Please note the word "illness".
Does this mean that DD can get sick and cancel and all the participants "agree & acknowledge that NO refund of any portion" will be given and she has "no liability whatsoever".

Gosh... this woman is just too much.
I have never supported her because her 'art' isn't my taste, but after Sharon's issue last year, DD left a bad taste in my mouth.

This however, cracks me up!
She won't refund you if you are seriously ill, and she won't refund you if *she's* ill. That works out pretty darn good for her.

She also conveniently leaves out the possibility rescheduling the event due to unforeseen cancellation. But if she cancelled at the late date due to illness, you probably won't be refunded for travel/hotel, etc... so really, you're screwed either way.

I guess I'm just not Inspired. by Donna Downey.

ETA: Oops... I guess a few others were posting about this the same time I was. Looks like we all have a few questions regarding her one-sided policy. Seriously... who would sign up for that!?!

To this day, I have not spent one cent on anything from DD. I don't go to her blog or anything. She really did inspire me...not to support her business.

me too. Local store promoted her stuff and class recently - I passed. And so did my closest friends.
I had some personal e-mails back and forth with the charming miss DD during that debacle ... she truly didn't get it. I have no reason to think she's got it now judging by the current cancellation policy where she can cancel if she's sick and not issue a refund, but we can't cancel and expect a refund if we're sick. Maybe she needed a bigger stick to get hit with on this issue? LOL

Who is signing up for this event?

Aside from the fact that I do not wish to give any of my $ to DD because I do not support people who treat their customers like that, those projects were just, well...not very professional looking.

There was not one of them that I couldn't just look at the picture and make on my own. There was nothing innovative. No special or new technique. It was just some Prima stuff glued down on top of paint and mist on canvas surfaces, with some random fabric bits thrown in.

BethAnne,
I remember one of her daughters sewed a pillow or something... DD put it on her Esty site to sell and was fairly overboard about the whole thing.

Her daughter is darling, but it was just weird the way she went about it.

Atleast that how I remember it....

I nominate "Enough." for the Official NSBR Pea Word of 2010. I believe the other contenders so far are "livid" and "jackwagon."

Past winners are "Holy Carp" (in the special two-word category) and "XXX.XX% shocked" (in the make-it-up-as-you-go category).

Nominations are still open. Feel free to add yours.

Why do people even THINK about paying that kind of money for a class and kits?

I choke on paying $35 for a class. For heaven's sake....can people not just read it and figure it out? It's scrapbooking, not brain surgery!

DD has been a bit snobbish and full of herself. But then, I've never thought scrapbooking people can be a "celebrity". I think the idea of that is hilarious. I scrapbooking, going to retreats, buying supplies, collecting paper, etc.....but I can look at something or read it if I want to learn a technique. There really isn't anything in scrapbooking classes that need to be more that 50 bucks plus supplies...and I won't even be taking those classes.

OK....off my soapbox.

the Event may be canceled due to acts of God
couldn't one argue that everything is an act of God?

I'd love to see the # of people who have signed up.

I get not giving refunds if you cancel within 30 days or something, but 6 months is a little extreme. I also think that there could be cases that could earn a refund after that 30 days (and actually I think Sharon just wanted to sell her seat).

I also think that instead of her "no refund from me" policy it should state that the event may be rescheduled or that part of the fee would be refunded. I get that she has book a room or something to have it in so she would be out that money and the money for the supplies, but I bet she wouldn't pay the employees if the event didn't happen. Or give a minimal refund and then box up and ship the supplies to each participant.

I wonder if she will have a wait list this year as, if I recall, we weren't the only scrapbooking board that got wind of her practices.
