The last few days I have really been thinking that I would love to have a snail mail pen pal that shares similar interests to me. My mother-in-law has built a wondeful relationship with a pen pal and they have been friends for years! Do you have a scrapbooking pen pal? If so, how did you find them? Any suggestions or websites would be really appreciated!

Hi, Whitney. I have had pen pals most of my life, and some of my best friends started out as pen pals. I think I've seen a scrapbooking magazine that has pen pal listings, though I don't recall the name.
One way I would recommend is to become part of message boards like this one, and I'm sure there are many others on the Internet. I'm part of a Yahoo group where I've met a lot of great scrappin' ladies, and we talk about other stuff on the board besides scrapbooking. Meeting folks online might be a way to make contacts that could become a snail mail pal.
I can see why you'd want that. There's nothing like an actual handwritten letter in the mailbox. Email will never quite compare, in my opinion.

I used to have pen pals when I was a teenager, and have always wanted to get another, but I have never figured out how to either. If you find a way, let me know.

Whitney,
I found one here on the NSBR board about a year ago. There was such a big interest in the idea that they had a second sign up! I would post over there, maybe someone who didn't get the chance before would be interested. You probably could do a search to find the posts...I would love to find the links for ya, but I'm at work and supposed to be "working" (Shh, don't tell anybody)I hope that helps, and you're on your way to finding a cool penpal!

Although getting "real" mail is always fun (except bills)...I am too spoiled by being able to spell-check, bold, change fonts, and basically "clean up" a word document, to go back to handwriting anything more than a note.
Sad, I know...but it's true. |

I love snail mail and, coming to Canada almost three years ago, I do stay in touch with some old friends with airmail and stamps. The joy of the letter, saving it for in bed and reading it over and over. But I have always liked to write. |

I would like to join this too. Should we just peamail someone, or are we going to "pair" up? Not trying to take anything from OP, but If you would like me to start a list or something I would be happy to. I think this is exciting!

Ok since there are so many of us interested, I will take the initiative. If you want to be paired up, peamail me your name, age, and any other things that might help me pair us up. Such as I have kids/no kids, looking for someone near my age, if you want a penpal in US only or other country, a few other interests, etc. I will then send you the name of your penpal so you may contact them via peamail to get addresses, and stuff. I don't want to get all the addresses myself and that way you and your pal can decide what you are interested in doing. So basically I am just pairing you up and you take it from there (note: I am not responsible if your pen pal flakes out. However I can say that it seems like many of us would be happy to take on two or more pals!) So peamail me direct if you want to take part and we can get this going!

This might be going in a slightly different direction, but there is a website called anysoldier.com that allows military contacts who are deployed in harm's way to let supporters know what their needs are, in order to allow supporters to send helpful carepackages and to find penpals. This system is unique and effective since some heroes are stationed near large posts and have access to snacks/toiletries but would love to receive a copy of their favorite magazine, while other heroes are in remote locations and would give anything for a pair of dry socks and a toothbrush-their needs can be so different! And, some heroes actually scrapbook, either with other deployed soldiers or with kids they have come in contact with during their jobs, anywhere from the Middle East to the Phillipines to Eastern Europe.
If you visit anysoldier.com, click "Where to Send" then click on the "Search Tool" and in the "Request and Email Contents" field, type in scrapbook. There is currently one Contact asking for scrapbooking supplies, but new contacts are adding every single day, so keep checking! Even if you have no supplies to send, a scrapbooking penpal who is also an American Hero is like, well, I don't even have a word for how awesome!
Make sure you read and understand the agreement for using the AnySoldier site. It's a phenominal operation run by an amazing military family, and their tried-and-true rules/procedures are designed to keep our heroes' information as safe as possible. Thanks!

For all of you who have sent me peamail, I have got your info and replied. I think I need to say by the end of Labor Day weekend, I will pair everyone up and you will be able to contact your new "pal." It looks like we are getting a lot of interest, so I thought we should set a deadline, at least for the first round! So if you haven't peamailed me yet and you would like to be paired up, peamail me before Monday! Thanks!

@Avon Pooh
PeaMail was double spacing everything, so I typed my info in Word, but PeaMail won't let me cut and paste it to send to you, so here you go.
I would love to participate in this too, here is my info:
I have been scrapbooking since Jr. High School back in the 70's; I still enjoy it today and more so when I make my own embellishments. Recently, I have been involved in getting in shape and running and I try to run a minimum of 6 miles a day, in fact, I just signed up for a 10K. I completed my first half marathon (13.1 miles) on my 47th birthday.
Married to Craig (just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary) who loves anything sports related, more importantly he is a huge Mariner's fan. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I do have my favorite shows and I won't watch sports on TV, only in person.
My son is 17 years old and will be a senior this year and we will be super busy once wrestling season kicks in come November. He has his learner's permit, but is not overly enthusiastic about actually driving however, hopefully he will have his license before he graduates in June! He plans to go to a local community college and enter into a criminal justice program with an ultimate goal of being in law enforcement.
We live in a townhouse which I love, because it frees up the weekends with no yard work (or very little yard work).
We do not have any pets, although if we did, it would be a dog. My husband is deathly allergic to cats.
I am a native Washingtonian, although I lived in Hawaii when I was 8 and in Houston after I turned 21 for a couple of year (had to get my partying in). My dad lives the majority of the year on Oahu so when he returns "home" to Washington in the summer, we get to stay at his place for vacation our latest trip was in July.
Looking forward to writing/meeting a pen pal, wherever they may be from. I love the internet and the friendships I have made because of it as it is a wonderful tool.
Thank you,
bonnie =)

If you sent me peamail, I replied back to tell you I got your info, so if you sent to me and didn't get a reply let me know as I don't want anyone left off the list. But give me 12 hours or so to reply, as I will be out and about over the holiday! SBartist1 I got you too! Thanks everyone! I will keep this open till the end of the weekend and pair up on Monday!
