September Class Description:
This month we are going to rediscover some old favorites. Papers you've held on to for years because you loved them, but still haven't used. I recently moved and decided to scale down on the amount of product I have. I don't need to be stocked like a store. In doing so I donated a large amount of stuff I didn't need, but I also found some old favorites I'd forgotten about.
It was the perfect time to combine new and old!
As it turns out the old I wanted to use was a bit more "grungy" and the new, "graphic". And there's no reason not to combine the two. It actually helps balance the layout. If I had used all of one or the other it could have made the layout lean too far to the left or right. Being in the middle is a fun place to be.
Tips for combining: Go big, and little. In each style I used both in large and small amounts. The background, big, the little paper swirls, small. The number block, big, the circles, small. The papers I chose are quite busy. That's why most of them are cut up or punched.
So, dig through your stash, grab some older favorite patterned papers...and grab some off the top of your stack too. You'll see that by adding combining the two it gives new life to your older papers. They were your favorites for a reason! Different styles? Challenge yourself to combine them.
Remember, this class is supposed to help you push your own limits. My layout is just an idea, if you like two page layouts take the inspiration and make it yours!
Be sure to download the PDF, here , for more photos, description, links to examples and directions for this layout.
Each month we will have a challenge associated with the class. This month your challenge is to create a layout/card/project on which you've combined old with new. Bonus points for using products of different styles!
To participate in the Challenge:
-Create a project on which you've combined old with new
-Layout can Digital, Traditional or a Hybrid.
-Submit your layout by uploading to the gallery by October 9, 2010 11:59 CST. Don't forget to click the box next to this class (Patterned Paper Every Which Way: September 2010).
I will pick a winner randomly from all the submissions to win a Gift Certificate to Two Peas and post the winner on the Education Board on October 10th. For every submission to this class you will earn a badge!
