something that makes you smirk or roll your eyes?

People call someone a "bitch" as if they're really saying something unique or hurtful.

I confess to being a BITCH...a Babe In Total Control of Herself.

Anyone who wishes to call me one is free to do so. I take it as a compliment; especially since it seems to be the last resort of people who cannot think of anything better to say.

So, are *you* a bitch?

I find I am usually called a bitch when I have made a point that the other person has a hard time refuting.

Having someone say that to me when I was younger would have bothered me...the closer I get to 50, the less I seem to care lol

It's almost as over-used as "pearl clutcher". That is the one I hate the most. Just because you disagree with something, you're the "pearl clutcher". It's like they can't think of something else to say so that's the phrase of the moment.

But it does annoy me when some women on here take real pride in being a bitch and let everyone know it. I don't know why that would be something to be proud of....but then I suppose that's the "pearl clutcher" in me.

Well, when I went thru that IL tollbooth last weekend and the tollbooth guy said, "Have a good night, bitch," I did get offended. I feel like I'm entitled to be pissed about that.

It pretty much rolls off of me, unless it's like my BFF or my sister or something. I'm not often bitchy so I can't remember the last time I was called one. But on a messageboard, I wouldn't care.

The only person to ever call me a b!tch was my dh, and he was trying to be joking about it (epic fail, btw).

I'd be shocked if someone called me that. I try to not come across that way and I think I'd be more hurt than offended.

ETA: But that might change after tomorrow night's pto meeting. I have a feeling the principal will be thinking that quite loudly.

The people who call me a bitch here love to throw in the "oh, but at least I never wished ill on someone's child".

Used to upset me. But after 3+ years, it actually makes me laugh when someone resorts to that. My only thought now is to think of that person
"is that really the best you can do"? You can't find anything recent to go after me with? " LOL.

OK, to make it an equal-opportunity thread, I'll add "Politically Correct" to the list. As in: "I don't believe in being Politically Correct!" which is usually translatable into, "I prefer to be obnoxious and bigoted and not be called out for it, thank you very much!!!!" I suspect that being "anti-PC" is the most PC stance of all.

But, then, any time your stated opinion conveniently falls into somebody's label...(Oh, that's typical liberal/conservative/Christian/athiest/Union/socialist/talk-radio/Republican/Democrat....)it's usually a sign that the accuser has run out of intelligent commentary.

I certainly can be a bitch, if I am pushed. I certainly don't like hearing it though.

But, I do have to admit, I have read a post or two of yours and thought, "what a bitch."

But, more often than not, I read a well thought out response from you and think,"Lauren is my hero!" I do try to read the threads you start and I tend enjoy them immensely.

Hope all is well with you and Jackie, and keep posting!

I know this is kind of off-topic, but I completely agree with this:

Those aren't the ones I'm talking about....I've read on here from specific peas bragging that they're a bitch and proud of it. Those are the ones that I just shake my head at. I mean, all of us have our bitchy moments, but there are some on here that just like being a bitch for the sake of being a bitch.

I also know women like this in person and I've never understood the whole "I'm gonna be in your face and be a bitch and I'm proud of it" attitude. And I don't mean the occasional bitchy moment or an isolated incident; I'm talking about women who seem to have this as their life motto.

I think most of us have our bitchy moments, but I honestly would be offended if somebody seriously called me a "bitch" because that is so opposite of my true personality.

I have been called b*tch on many an occassion. Most of the time it is because I believe in a particular position and won't back down.

There are those who brag about it and personally I have never understood it.

I've never been called a bitch (that I know of), and I don't think I behave like one. Unfortunately, I'm not a babe in total control of herself, either. I think if someone called me a bitch I would be upset. I don't like name calling.

Totally when I need to be. I own it. Absolutely.

I would only care if someone close to me said it and meant it in a negative tone (rather than jokingly or mockingly). Otherwise, does it really matter what some stranger thinks of me?

I know who I am. My family and friends know who I am -- and they love me for it and in spite of it. I certainly have a strong personality and my opinions are my own. But, I am not bullied by others and when I want to accomplish something, I go after it. Some people find that intimidating -- and thus, a "bitch".

Oh, well.

You would think we would be past this, but I still hear women called bitches for doing things that, if a man did it, we would think of him as assertive. The whole assertive men = aggressive, bitchy women thing still exists to some people. If I stick up for myself and I am right and then called a bitch, I don't get offended. I know it's just because they don't have a snappy retort with which to reply.

I have never been called bitch, to my face, before.

Once, when my daughter was 13, she typed a message to her friends on her My Space page, calling me a bitch. She lived to regret that. She lost her cell phone, computer privileges, allowance, etc.

I've been called bitch by patients who are mad at me for things that are totally out of my control.

Im 55 and have never been called that to my face anyways. I certainly have my bitchy moments but dont think Im a bitch so yes it would mildly upset me. However, there is alot to be said for getting older...the only time I really care about what people say are people that I care about or respect. I dont necessarily get being proud of being known as a bitch though, but to each their own.

Oh, I totally agree that there are still people who equate assertive women with being a "bitch", and I think it's an unfair and inaccurate classification. I have the utmost respect for assertive people in general, but I was referring to women who are a bitch just to be bitchy and in your face. I used to work with a woman like that and she was NOT assertive...just plain bitchy to everyone all the time, just because she could get away with it (we had a manager with no guts to reign her in).

I don't have a grudge. I guess like you, I say what I think. There were seveal instances where your bitchiness was pretty much out of left field. I simply called a spade a spade. Oh well.

With that definition, sure, I'm a bitch.

I'm sure there are a few people that think I'm more of the negative meaning to it. I don't really care what they think. Now, if it came from a few select people, then I'd be hurt.
