I only watched this show here and there, didn't follow it regularly. I don't even know if it's still on. But I found the part where she couldn't remember a big chunk of her childhood so interesting. Especially when they went to one of the areas she lived as a child and she didn't remember living there, only her sister did. Anyway, did she ever find out what happened to her to cause her to block it all out or forget it?

Also, did her mother know the truth after all (I saw a couple of episodes where the mother said she didn't know but it seemed like she wasn't exactly telling the truth).

She hasn't remembered her past yet (at least from the last time they filmed, which was in the early Spring I think). And so far her mother says nothing out of the ordinary happened when she was a child to cause her lack of memory.

I was wondering the other day when her show might be back on.

I just googled it and it looks like it starts on November 28th! So it is coming back for a 4th season!

That is so interesting to me. One of my family members has a spouse who has a similar issue. Remembers almost nothing from childhood, with major blocks.

I watch too & have wondered what she might find out. I really hope that whatever it is will not be a setback for her, she's doing so good.
I have about a 2 year period in my life that I do not remember. I remember starting 2nd grade & have many memories before that time. I do not remember anything until the middle of my 4th grade year. In my mind, my 3rd grade year did not happen. I don't know who my teacher was, who my friends where, absolutely nothing about it.

as far as I recall from watching last season. the psychologist (?) she is talking to has told her there *IS* something that happened. people don't normally forget large chunks of their lives for no reason. they told her that she may never know what the trauma was that caused it. she could have seen something, had something happen to her etc. For some reason though her Mom began taking her to a Dr during that time for weekly visits. Neither the Dr nor her own Mother will give a specific reason for these visits. Neither seem to remember, yet Ruby knew she was very close to the man.

there was one episode where she was working out on a Pilate's machine if I recall. she immediately broke down because something about the muscles she was using and the position she was in overwhelmed her. basically it was a position/muscle group you would associate with having sex. (can't recall exactly what it was though). She just completely lost it and was visibly overcome with emotion.

I think it's normal for people to forget small details when they are young our even short periods of time (like a short trip). you should have *some* memories even if they are not totally accurate of the longer periods of events. like places you lived for years on end or going to a certain school.

Glad to hear it's coming back - They pretty much left us hanging and didn't give us much of a Season 3. No end of the season camp or anything like the season before, let alone how well she was doing on the weight loss. I'm afraid her memory loss is going to be something she really doesn't want to know, but if she's wanting that for her own personal peace, I hope she finds it.

I met her a few months ago. She's SOOOOOOOO nice, so are Jeff, Georgia and Denny (even though I want to punch him right in the face) they were here for a promo thing for some weight loss pyramid scheme thing she wanted to check out. Evidently, she doesn't go anywhere without them LOL.

I can't wait for the show to come back on! She can get a little annoying, but I miss her anyway

Thanks everyone. So she hasn't found out yet - I wonder if she will. She must suspect it has something to do with sexual abuse, that's the most logical guess as to what happened to her.

Personally I think the mother *MUST* know the truth but just doesn't want to say it. I find it a little strange that the doctor doesn't remember, if that's what he's claiming.

flastatenolefan - me too, lousy memory. I only remember bits and pieces too. With Ruby though it's like she remembers the beginning years and the later years well, but then there's a big chunk in the middle she can't remember at all, like she blocked it out completely.

sorry just getting back to checking this thread. I thought you might want an answer to this though. the DR *I* don't believe knew why she was being brought in. he got the feeling Mom was just "worried" about Ruby. the feeling I got was that either Mom truly didn't know. but because she is not educated about the signs of sexual abuse maybe she never made that connections, or she does know but has convinced herself that she doesn't, complete denial. it's all possible.

I do think her mother holds more answers than anyone else.

Also if I recall Ruby is still a virgin. how that happened is beyond me. the whole episode about it was so weird. Not *just* because she has never had sex but because of the way she acts about sex talk. she is a weird mix of being overtly flirty and yet seems disgusted (maybe too strong of a word?) by actually having sex.

I hope she's still making good progress.

My Dad doesn't remember huge chunks of his childhood. He has the earlier memories but not the early teen years. I know my Grandpa was a serious alcoholic for awhile there- they had 10 kids in 13 years and were LITERALLY dirt poor (the first 'house' my Dad lived in had dirt floors).

One of his siblings remembers Grandpa in a drunken rage lining the whole family up and debating who he was going to shoot first. My Dad has a HUGE issue with conflict and won't fight with my Mom nor did he tolerate fighting in our home. I can think of twice in my life when my Dad ever yelled at us and it was because we were fighting with each other. I guess he became the polar opposite of an abuser as the result of his childhood.

I don't watch the show but if Ruby has blanked out a time period and nobody recalls a childhood trauma I would guess it is sexual abuse. It sort of adds up too when you look at her weight issues. Not saying that all childhood sexual abuse survivors are large but many of them choose weight (subconsciously) as a form of self protection.
