OK. It's taken me a few days to get some photos to use for this assignment. It's been a little windy at our house so trying to find something standing still that is colorful was difficult. I found these verbina flowers in the fence row that were somewhat accomodating.
1. AV Mode, Shutter Speed: 1/4000, Aperture: f/1.8, ISO: 400
2. AV Mode, Shutter Speed: 1/250, Aperture: f/8.0, ISO: 400
3. AV Mode, Shutter Speed: 1/125, Aperture: f/22, ISO: 1600
Because the flowers were in the shade I had to up my ISO to take the last one since the Aperture was so closed.

I love seeing everybody's pictures! Here's my homework.
F/1.8 |ISO 800 | 35mm
F/8 | ISO 800 | 35mm
F/16 | ISO 800 | 800
Does anyone know how to shrink down the pictures when I insert it to the thread? Thanks! |

Jennifer, you need to resize before you upload them here. If you use photobucket you can resize them there. 600 on the long side and they will fit in the screen without scrolling.
Here's my homework:
AV mode, F2.5, ISO 400, SS 1/800
AV mode, F8, ISO 400, SS 1/80
AV mode, F32, ISO 400, SS 1/5

Thanks Staci but I tried both ways listed in that post. Maybe it is because I am using Flicker instead of Photobucket. I will try again tomorrow. Brain tired. The Flicker url is correct but I couldn't get it to a clickable link. Just not good at this stuff. Maybe I can search the neighborhood for a child to do it for me....lol. |

Ah, already this lesson has taught me something critical - I had the relationship between aperture and background blur reversed!
All shot on a tripod with a shutter release cable - RAW.
Canon T2i 50mm 1/6 sec f/4 ISO 400
Canon T2i 50mm .4 sec f/6.3 ISO 400
Canon T2i 50mm 4.0 sec f/20 ISO 400
Used MiaBella's (Leah Profancik) Lightroom 3 pre-sets to adjust color and exposure since these were taken in a room with terrible fluorescent lighting. Then cut to size with Photoshop CS5. |

Very neat shots so far! LOVE the lime and the flowers and the pez is SO clever! The striped pillow behind Thomas is clever too! And Laketa, that's dedication to still get your shots in despite an earthquake!!!!
I've been having much more trouble with this assignment than I thought I would! I thought I would breeze through this one! I think maybe I was trying to get too close or something? Anyway, I've done several series, but none of them that I particularly like. I'll try & give it one more shot tonight.

Sara (s2folck): Did you, by any chance, label your first and last shots backwards? The first one looks like it was at the smaller aperture (bigger number) and the last one looks like it was shot wide open (smaller number).
You were testing us to see if we would notice, right?! Did I pass?
Great examples, everyone! Now I feel bad for just grabbing a random toy for my assignment. Next time I'll try to choose something more visually appealing! |

FINALLY have something at least halfway decent. I might have to stop back & put in the rest of my settings later, depending on how long I take to do this...
1/160, F/3.5, ISO 200
1/25, F/8, ISO 200
1/30, F/22, ISO 1400
Phew! That was harder than I thought! And it's not like they're so great or anything, but at least it's something... |

Well I have flunked week 1 LOL.
My back had me bedridden majority of the week, then just busy with kids. I have read the lesson, but didnt get to do the shots.
I will add them as I do them this week, and get stuck in to lesson 2.
I will try to get the lessons done on time - but if not I will catch up as I can.
Great to see all the photos - really shows the differences!
Also great to see some of the 'non newbies' in to give us some encouragement |

Hi!
My hubby just surprised me with a DSLR camera last night and I have NO IDEA how to use it. I came across this thread and would like to join this class if possible? Not sure how to do that.
It's an older camera - Olympus Evolt E-300 series and has a big zoom lens (and a bunch of other gadgets in a case!) Does it matter?
Please let me know what my next step is if I can still join. Not sure if I could catch up, but would like to try!
Thanks
