I am REALLY excited to be started on stamps. I've been waiting for this week since this round started.

checklist of things to do during week 13 -
1. read the week 13 post on wookiemouse's blog. DONE
2. answer the question of the week on this thread. DONE
3. organize your stamps. Getting started today!!!

question of the week: favorite brand? do you use them more for cards or layouts or tags or..?

I have to confess that I don't really use my stamps. I (mostly) stopped buying more for my collection about a year ago. When I start using them, I'll allow myself to buy more. That's really motivating me to get them organized! I'll use them more if I know what I have and can find it, right?!

Question of the week: Favorite brand? Do you use them more for cards or layouts or tags or..?
CTMH, of course! And I use them for everything.
I do have one Christmas set from SU, a handful of MS sets and 2 wood mounted stamps. I have difficulty using anything other than clear acrylix, but once in a blue moon, CTMH doesn't have just the right image I need.

Checklist of things to do during week 13:
1. read the week 13 post on wookiemouse's blog - DONE
2. answer the question of the week on this thread - DONE
3. organize your stamps - DONE

All my stamps sets are in a 5-drawer storage tower, see here. Each drawer holds approximately 30 CTMH sets, so total storage space is about 150 individual sets. Top 4 drawers are full and the bottom one holds some duplicate CTMH sets and all the other non-CTMH stamps. I do have some wiggle room in the tower, but have pledged to not purchase any more CTMH sets unless I unload a set that I'm not using on a regular basis.

I want to create a rolodex of all my sets, but need to start with an index of some sort. Even though my CTMH sets are categorized in the tower, I want to have an index print-out to reference quickly. Once that's made, I can start stamping the images onto rolodex cards.

I do have a few duplicate CTMH sets and will be offering some blog candy some time this week. I'll post when the blog candy is up!

Ribbons pt 2 for those who did not catch me at the end of last thread.
Round 2 stamps here!

QOTW: CTMH Acrylix-but I love any non-made in China Acrylic stamp over a conventional rubber one...unless I absolutely have to use it to get the image. I think moving from rubber to acrylic is like going from bicycle to car! It just broadens your horizons!

Coming out of my pecan pic coma (pumpcan is ok scrappin usmc, but pecan rocks!) and in the haze of Douglas Fir (just cut down our tree with the kids today!) Goodluck to all with stamps!!!

I don't have very many sets of stamps. I quit buying them because I hardly ever use them. In fact, I'm thinking about selling my sets of foam stamps in the next LSS garage sale. I'm going to hold on to my acrylic stamps for the time being in case I want to make cards.

checklist of things to do during week 13 -

2. answer the question of the week on this thread. If I used stamps more often, I would buy the ones by Tim Holtz. I love his images.

Daisymarie- Maybe if you got some acrylic alphabets you would use them more? I know that having an acrylic alphabet keeps my apha sticker buget in check

I am an EOS...Equal Opportunity Stamper. I Love all kinds and brands equally (OK except the Studio G ones from M's) Anyway, I use them for everything. If I can possibly use a stamp in any of my paper crafting I'll do it!!!!
I think I have the most Stampin' Up and The Stamps of Life stamps though.

2. answer the question of the week on this thread. - DONE
3. organize your stamps. - Almost there. I have to index the ones I just bought and a few sets from the past few months. But I have them all marked that they need to be indexed.

If I get it done this week it will be a miracle but I will get a blogpost up of how I store them and index them.

And ScrappnBee, I agree that pecan pie is the bestest. I'm pretty sure I put on about 8 pounds over the weekend. My jeans just laughed at me when I tried to button them this morning, LOL!

Happy organizing everyone! I'm potty training my ASD 3-year old so I'll be spending most of my week hanging out in the bathroom! LOL!

So, is anyone else hearing the Darth Vader theme music this week?? Dun, dun, dun, dun, da dun, da, da dun. No? Just me?

QOTW - I definitely prefer wood mounted rubber. As for manufacturer it's a toss up between Stampin Up, Hero Arts and Penny Black.

Lisa I'd lve to have a better look at your blog but it keeps crashing whenever I click on your link Is anyone else having this problem??

You guys can keep your pie on that side of the border! I just *finally* lost the couple of extra pounds I put on from our Thanksgiving.

Good luck with the potty training Mel. I remember those days ... I don't think my bathroom grout had ever been cleaner as I'd scrub a little bit every time I was in there.

Crisann - Yay on the heat!! I'm all for the monthly chatting threads ... I'd miss the chatting more then the organizing anyways

To avoid working on stamps I'm working on decluttering everywhere. Up here we have a free "garage sale" type of website where you post things you have for sale. I just hope the crafty things go before they find their way back into my room!!

I forgot to make PECAN PIE and now after reading all your posts I want some Oh well -still have an apple pie leftover and some pumpkin bread.

QOTW - I just love a good stamp - I mean ones that are made so the image stamps crisp and clean. So I really do not have a favorite brand. In my collection I have Magenta, SU, Hero Arts, Penny Black, CTMH, and some smaller companies. I stamp on cards and layouts. I LOVED Jennifer McGuire's last Thinking Inking series

Blog -read it.

Organize = not happening this round. I have a system in place but not the most organized one. And my binder for clear stamps needs some redoing. Perhaps if I get caught up with housework this week I will get it done

Mel- potty training....those were the days! My kids just loved having quality time with me in the bathroom..NOT!

Kris - you made good use of your potty training time by cleaning the grout. Never thought of that although my linen closet was quite organized

Crisann - monthly chatty thread sounds great! Was going to take that BPC class too but ....I just do not see myself being that disciplined. Am going to take Ali Edwards class and perhaps finish a heritage album or two.

Well I am back! TA DA! I actually organized my stamps this weekend. I bought two of the cropper hopper ten drawer units on sale at JA's. I have each drawer labeled with the category of stamps (Boys, Girls, Christmas, Snow Theme, Birthday/Celebration, Flowers Wood Mount, Flowers Cling, etc etc etc) I'm sure compared to some of y'all I am a novice when it comes to quantity but I've only been "stamping" per se for the past year and a half! LOL I'm sure I'll need more drawer units in the future!

I don't really have a favorite brand - I love to mix it all up!!!

I use my stamps for cards and tags only - I really don't scrapbook yet! But soon I hope to start - maybe in January after the kids go back to school! Yeah yeah that's it!

Stamps already!!!!!!

I have a feeling they are going to go the way of my pictures. I have an iris container full of stamps I haven't organized yet.

QOTW: I tend to gravitate towards wood mounted stamps, but my favorite brands are, SU, Tim Holtz, Inkadinkadoo(love the price and variety)Magenta, Hero arts, TCP Studio, Crafty Secrets heartwarming vintage stamps and the list goes on and on and on.......

Any one want to count!!!!! Just kidding.

I decided for my cataloging instead of stamping my millions of stamps onto paper in categories (I'll leave the ones I've already done) I would photocopy the packaging when I first get them and catalog them by type and brand that way. Stamping and cleaning has been a pain in the butt.

This week I won't be getting any organizing done, maybe not even until after Christmas, my list of projects are climbing to unsurmountable heights Anyways have a great week my fellow peas!

Jen,

Thank you so much for the idea of photo copying the stamp sets instead of stamping each image. I can easily copy the sets from CTMH's Idea Books, then adhere them to rolodex cards. I'll admit it, I did NOT want to stamp each image and then clean each stamp.

OMG, why didn't I think of this?! This is the number 1 reason why I love this challenge and all the members participating! IDEAS, IDEAS and tons more IDEAS.

Right now I'm working on the first two days of Jessica Sprague's Inspiration Everywhere free class, but will jump on the copying tonight.

Thanks again!

Most of my stamps are CTMH, so I have them in those cheap plastic bins with holes on the sides. I have fonts, sentiments and then everything else separated out. I have one binder for my Stamps of Life and the larger 8x10 large CTMH fonts. I have a second binder that holds every and anything else that is a clear stamp. I have a small basket of wood mount stamps that I am going to put in clear flat boxes from the Container Store once I get a chance to get over there.

I sat down about a week and a half ago and inked up all my CTMH sets and layed paper on top to try to "catalog" what I have. Now I just need to get some 6x6 sleeves to put them in and figure out if I'm going to just put it on rings or in a mini album. This will also make it easier for my girls (and friends when they are over here scrapping) to search thru my stamps with out having to pull out each and every envelope. I would love eventually to use a Clip it Up for the stamps that are in binders, but for now space/$$ just won't allow it.

I've been home with a sick little boy all day Good excuse for not dealing with the stamp issue I think

Jen - I LOVE your idea!!! I was so dreading making any sot of index because I really didn't want to have to stamp and clean all those stamps. I may just have to give that a try! And there will be no counting on this round!! LOL

**** Does anyone mark their stamps in any way?? Say, when you've added them to your index? To track when you've used certain images?? I've been thinking of adding little dots (with sharpies) to the wood or something ....

Lisa - Thanks, but that didn't work anyways ... From the short glimpses I get, you blog looks lovely! But can I ask that you link up just the pictures of your room here too?? You have some great ideas and I'd love to see them.

Daisymarie - I love my alpha stamps!! I have a couple of acrylic sets, and have at least 7 sets of the red rubber too. Best part of using alpha stamps is you're never out of those vowels and you always have the right colour to match

Crisann - What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger We got the new Xbox 360 kinetic something. OMG! That is a crazy workout!! Good for you for getting off your butt though!

Sewsew - Can we see pictures of how you organized them??

Lucky me doesn't have to cook tonight MIL offered to make us dinner tonight. However, trying to convince the boy to get out of his pj's might take a bit of coaxing. Later!

Hi everyone. You all sound like you're really on the ball; It's been a cold, rainy day here and I ate my last piece of pumpkin pie so it's all been downhill from there!

I read wookiemouse's blog; how does she do it?!

QOTW: I don't have very many stamps; I find that I don't use what I have very much; the ones I use mostly are the alphabet stamps (for l/o's). My favorites are probably a set of tiny alphas from HeroArts, a couple of sets of alphas from MaVinci's, and a few image stamps from River City Rubber Works. I need to make myself use them more.

The stamps I have are "sort of" organized. My mounted stamps are in drawers; some of my foam and acyrlic are in a canvas tote, and a few sets are mounted on storage boards in a binder. However, I've been trying to move the stamps from the binder as I find they fall off the boards all the time and I have already lost a couple of alpha letters that way. So I need to work on that this week.

LydiaInk, you have a good policy there in not buying stamps until you begin using them. I need to make this apply to paper...

McLisa, your storage tower looks awesome.

ScrappnBee, your stamps look very "corralled" in your containers and labeled so well.

Scrappin usmc, good luck on the potty-training; it's a trying time to be sure!

Kris74, hope your little one is feeling better. And pj's are part of the healing...

crisann, Boy, it sounds like you started your "getting in shape" program with a bang! Oh, to be young and full of energy like you!

sewsew1 and Kware, sounds like you both have your stamps in good shape.

artistju, we'll probably all be busy throughout December, but even if we just get a little bit done, it counts as progress.

Have a great week everyone.

I think that we have all seperated into two camps this week- already done or flat out denial and shopping! LOL

Lovesribbons-you can always get a good pecan pie from the freezer section of the grocery (I won't tell).

Pcrfn-I think that is why Wookiemouse is the Zen Master of Scrapbook organziation and we are not (I am hoping for an orange belt someday)!

Kris74-I hate having sick kids...sorry! Hope he gets well soon! PA Me thinks that it is totally OK to ignore stamps!

Kris- how is your son?

Crisann - nope I am lazier than you!

Jen - read your Xerox suggestion at work! I wanted to run home and start copying my wood stamps!

Scrappnbee - no more pie for me. I am about to burst!

Well I have partially emptied out my scraproom of the stuff that went in there for Thanksgiving. But now I have a headache from straining my shoulders which strained my neck which strained my brain because no one was home to help me UGH! I am so behind - took Nic Howard's Color or is it Colour class at BPS and have not done a thing. This weekend I am hoping to do at least one layout. It is a fabulous class! Her handouts are unbelievable.

Thanks for listening to my vent.

Hey organizers! I did round one and when I saw this was your stamp week I had to jump in and say I STILL love my organized stamps! I didn't do the roledex but instead I did an index card box divided by themes-- so helpful and I am actually finally using my stamps alittle more.
It was a pain to stamp them all out but its something you can do while watching tv and it really makes it quick to find what you are looking for!!
Cheering you on!! This challenge truely changed my scrapping life!

Just shot me now! Stamps would be my nemesis as far as organization goes! I was a stamper for 5 years prior to scraping . . . . so I have tooooooooo many to count. As far as brands: Magenta, Denami, Judikins, Technique Tuesday, and on and on! I was never much into cutesy so realistic and artsy were my favs. I do like the idea of stamping on index cards, and probably clearing out the ones I've not used for 10 years.

I use my images for both cards and layouts, and have since the beginning! I love all the images that came out that are designed for scrap booking like journaling spots etc. Since I know many techniques to use my stamps I done everything from emboss resist backgrounds, brayer backgrounds, to image based embellishments. I have my inks organized and have sheets with the colors so I don't have to stamp the ink to see if it matches a layout.

I will be the "denial camp" this week! Mostly because the holiday crunch is starting and I am a single parent until Friday. DH is on a business trip and today along the "mommy taxi" made 5 trips from the house, tomorrow and Thursday will be more of the same!

I've been working on custom ornaments for cards to give to the ladies in my MOPS group on Thurs so should get off the computer and finish those!

Thanks guys - he's doing a little better but last night was rough He's been fighting a fever and then ended up with an odd rash by the end of the day. Like chicken pox, but the dots were white, not red?? Anyhoo, just waiting for the doctor's office to open so we can get in later today ...

Thanks for the cheerleading Vicki! I know I just need to bite the bullet and start keeping track of my stamps ... tonight is Survivor night. Maybe I'll start then.

Good luck with your busy week Angel!!

Hi everybody!

I'm joining Angel in the 'denial camp' this week. In spite of my enthusiasm for the subject, I also have my kids' school concert tomorrow (with a costume to finish), Dec. Daily/Journal Your Christmas starting, the house to decorate, baking to do, etc. Slowly, slowly, I'll take a few baby steps at least. I have to get to the office supply store for binders and I want to find 4x6 photo pages to fit a lot of my stamps. I also need to figure out an index system. I SO wanted to use a Rolodex (mainly because I love spinning it round) but the cards aren't big enough for some of my stamps, so maybe index cards would be more practical. Practical seems so dull, though.

Kris, I'm glad that your son is getting better, hope you figure out the rash. My oldest was home yesterday with a fever, but seems himself again today. I suspected he was playing it up to play with his brother's new toys (had a birthday party last week), but stayed on the sofa and actually fell asleep. Totally out of character for that boy, so he was innocent (for a change).

Vicki, thanks for the cheers from the sidelines!

Crisann, thanks! It was very therapeutic - I've been a frustrated scrapper this year.

Well Crisann, there's nowhere to go but up, right?? Next year will be fabulous!! Maybe if you went to a crop or something you'd be more productive?? I usually go to a retreat once a year (in the spring) and then to a couple (maybe 3 or 4 throughout the year) with a couple of girlfriends. I find I get SO MUCH done then, especially when I pack up a couple of kits.

So DS has majorly inflammed tonsils (well on one side). Poor kid. But we started the antibiotics last night and we all had a restful night and no fever this morning. So I guess it's back to stamps this morning now that he's back on the mend

Lydia - If you had stamps that are larger then the index card, (like background stamps) what if you made a note of what size the stamp is. Even if you stamp just a section of the stamp, I'm sure you'll have an idea of what the stamp looks like.

Sorry, I've been all about me lately and not so much about the organizing .... BUT I HAVE GREAT NEWS!!!

Remember that exam I wrote in October and was terrified of?? I PASSED!! With flying colours - so freaking excited right now!!

So I'm thrilled to say I'm starting up my own consulting business. (The exam had no bearing on that decision, but just reinforces that yes, I do have some idea of what I'm talking about ) YAY ME!!

OK - that's it. Back to stamps ....

Pssst Crisann. At least you have 90% of the journaling done on that one. I haven't even finished choosing all the topics yet.

kris - that was the easy part for me! i love to write! lol...

sheesh, i have about half of a book written - as in a typed, double-spaced manuscript, complete w/ header/footer... doubt i'd ever try to get it published, though.

YAY KRIS!!!! Of course you know what you're talking about! But it's always great to have that 'officially verified'.

I'm afraid I went on a big binge at my LSSs yesterday. Mostly more paper, but a bunch of stamps too. So much for not buying until they're organized and being used! Do as I say, not as I do!

I'm redeeming myself this morning by getting the binders and page protectors I needed to organize my stamps. Hoping to get some stamps in them this afternoon.

Crisann, I often get myself out of a scrapping rut by finishing a few UFO's. Usually it's just a few lines of journalling to add so I can put it in an album. 10% - you can do it!!

Judy - dyl = design your life
tav = the abrigded version as in Me: The Abridged Version both are classes by Cathy Zielske at Big Picture Classrooms. I LOVED Me:The Abridged Version.

Kris74 - I am still working on the topics too. CONGRATS on the exam and the consulting business!!!! Hope those tonsils getter better - my DD eventually needed hers out not fun!

Lydia - I binged at the Joann Online sale.....I <gasp> ordered the electric Sizzix Big Shot. I know, I know, I already have a Silhouette but there are some things that cannot be cut with the Sil like chipboard. So it was 40% off and I have RA and my hands hurt so I ordered it along with a couple of TH dies

Dancingfish - loved the idea of stamping on index cards while watching TV. Get a stamping fix without worrying about composition and watch TV at the same time

I am definitely in the "denial camp" this week. I have been ignoring this thread all week in hopes of it just going away and I can continue ignoring my baskets and boxes of stamp sets, my partially completed stamp index and my pile of stamp sets that are yet to be mounted.

I'm certain that stamps will go on the back burner with photos and I'll get to them in a slow week for me - definitely NOT before Christmas!

QOTW: favorite brand? do you use them more for cards or layouts or tags or..?

I would say that 98% of my stamps are SU wood-mounted. I have a few individual stamps that I've purchased here and there. I use them mostly for cards. I would love to use them more on layouts, but I usually scrap away from home and I'm not organized enough to think ahead to bring certain stamps for what I'm working on that night.

checklist of things to do during week 13 -
1. read the week 13 post on wookiemouse's blog. NOT DONE
2. answer the question of the week on this thread. DONE
3. organize your stamps. NOT DONE!!

Crisann - hang in there with your scrapping. I only completed 27 layouts for last year. I've done almost 3 times that amount this year. '09 was just a tough year - consumed mostly with moving 3 states away from family and friends.

Kris - congrats on passing your exam and starting a business! Hope you ds gets better soon. Infected tonsils are so not fun!

Jen - love your copy idea for the indexing. Wish I had thought of that when I first started stamping. But I have a pile of unmounted sets that I can use this for.

Mel - potty training! I do NOT miss those days. My 3 kids are 2 years apart and was so excited to be done with diapers.

Lisa - LOVE your stamp storage - so neat and compact. Almost makes me want to switch to acrylic stamps.

Off to read Wookie's blog!!

Leisa - GO VOLS!

Completed 2010: 85
Completed 2011: cards - 16; los - 70
Completed 2012: cards - 26; los - 36
Completed 2013: cards - 13; los - 20
Completed 2014: cards - 0; los - 14
Mar goal: cards 0/4; los 14/4

Nice new picture Crisann!! Which do you prefer? Brunette or Blonde?

And thanks guys!! I'm so excited! I just had to share the new with "someone" and DH doesn't count seeing as it's been practically his idea - LOL I did spill the news to one of my sister's and she was thrilled for me too

So by a show of hands ... who spent any time stamping index cards or whatever this week?? Yep. Me neither But let's all start with one set, one drawer, whatever. There's a show on tonight that I know DH and I will actually sit and watch ... it's some cop show (not that we like cop shows, but this one always has a cool personal twist to it). It's on at 9pm EST if that helps - LOL.

Have a great day girls!! I'm still on cloud 9 with all of my news this week

Kris,

Haven't touched mine either ... thought about them ... but haven't actually done anything!

But, I like your plan about TV time tonight. There's a back episode of Hoarders (how ironic ) I'd like to view and will pull-out one drawer at a time to start creating an index of my sets. Girls are in bed for the night around 9-ish, so that gives me a couple of hours to get something accomplished. Plus, Hoarders always motivates me to get my stuff together!

Anyone else up for getting something/anything accomplished around 9:00 PM (EST) tonight? Please join in and keep us motivated.

Congrats on your exam Kris!! That's awesome.

Add me to the sick-kid group too. The potty-trainee came down with a fever a couple days ago. So that was a bust. We will start again in the morning since he's been fever free today. One step forward, two steps back.
On the upside, I made a gigantic fat mess in my scrap area, LOL! Instead of organizing anything I've been making Christmas cards that I don't need. Once again I'm showing my abillity to procrastinate, LOL!

I'm home with another sick kid today, too. My middle son woke with a fever at 3:30 this morning and has been flaked out on the sofa all day. He's a great patient - sleeps, asks for water and a video, sleeps some more.

We're getting some very light snow falling here today. The sun is out so it looks like glass glitter floating down. Very pretty. I'm living in a snow globe!

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot about organizing progress. I have most of my acrylic stamps in binders. No stamping happening yet. I think I'll give up on the Rolodex and make up index sheets to stamp on instead. We'll see.

Mel and Lydia so sorry to hear about the sick kids!

Lydia - nice comment on finishing UFO and getting out of a rut. I have found that to be true also.

Lisa and Kris - are we doing this tonight?

Crisann - Love the new picture!!! Did you sign up for Allie's class yet? I am tempted to purchase a gift certificate now and get the other gift certificate and then use them to pay for the class. IDK though with Christmas coming up.

Weaser - I had three kids in three years! I was sooooo happy when my oldest decided she did not want to be like my younger two and started potty training!

kris - blonde or brunette? brunette... straight or curly? curly...

loveribbons - not yet and i probably won't 'til the last minute. i'd rather wait and see if there's, by chance, a 25% off promo or something closer to christmas.

i'm wondering whatever happened to may flaum's winter retreat. thought she was supposed to be doing something w/ sign-ups starting dec. 8.

I thought May's class was February?? Maybe sign ups will be in the new year?? I agree with you on the curly, but I don't think I could choose between the blonde and brunette.

Lisa, LoveRibbons and whoever else is interested - I'm so doing this! I figure if I grab one or two of my boxes of stamps I might start some momentum going or something. Doubt it, but you never know, right??

Sorry Mel the potty training is delayed. Hopefully your little guy is feeling better!!

LoveRibbons - OMG!! 3 kids in 3 years!??!?! Glad you survived

Oh and re Ali's Class, I think I'm waiting till the last minute too. But SOMEONE PLEASE remind me to sign up!!! I always get distracted and barely make it in time!

See you ladies at 9

kris - you're probably right! lol...

eventually, i'll get it right and i'll have brunette/curly hair - it's always been either blonde and curly or brunette and straight.

i want to find a stylist that's willing to do a "body wave" w/ turquoise or black rods. orange is still too curly for me.

I'm in ladies!

I just finished organizing some new knitting patterns. I'm fairly new to knitting, so my pattern binder is still small and manageable. Unlike a certain other craft we won't mention.

I would love to get through 2 of my 4 stamp set drawers tonight. Then tackle the other 2 over the weekend. The paper index is, hopefully, just a starting point. I really like Jen's idea of copying the stamps sets instead of stamping all those images.

Who else is in tonight?

Sigh. My littlest has the fever now. Middle guy is perking up, though. Snoozing on the sofa is good medicine! Or maybe it was watching the Grinch that did it.

Kris, I'm out for stamping tonight. DH & I are having a boy-free dinner tonight - he's making me pepper steaks. Yum!

LoveRibbons - Your binge sounds smarter than mine. A new tool to help use the paper I already have would be a good investment. I'm secretly coveting a Big Shot (mostly for the TH dies/textures), but don't use my Cricut as much as I expected, so feel guilty about it. Someday...

Jen - I'm loving your index sheets in your gallery and am planning on copying them this weekend.

I'm looking forward to May's Creative Retreat class, too. I mentally filed it under 'next year' and forgot about it, though. Thanks for the reminder. I'm also considering re-doing Ali E's class since I didn't get much done last year, but should probably save the $$ and just complete it on my own.

Crisann - I think if you buy a $100 GC @ BPS before Dec 15, you get a bonus $15 GC. Haven't heard about discount codes lately, though.

Must go feed the short people and get them to bed!
