Welcome to February's Scrapbook Stamping Lesson!
February's class features applying embossing powders and heat setting stamped images on your layout.
To view the class samples, pdf handout and video for this class lesson, click here for the individual lesson or here for my classroom page.
CHALLENGE: Use embossing powders and heat setting your stamped images on a scrapbook layout.
*Please note that in order to be entered in the drawing for a GC from 2peas you must create a layout (this is a layout class) and you must follow the challenge (because each month is covering a specific stamping technique).
Please upload your layout to the Two Peas Gallery by February 28th.
Dont' forget to check the box next to this class when you upload for a chance at winning a randomly selected gift certificate from Two Peas! I will post the winner on the Education Board on the March 1st 2011.
I'm looking forward to another amazing month of stamping, scrapbooking and memory keeping with my friends here at Two Peas! I can't wait to see all of your stamped and embossed creations!
If you have any questions regarding this class, please don't hesitate to leave me a question here or peamail me.

What a fantastic project. Wow. There is so much to it, so many elements, but when it is all put together it looks very simple and not fussy at all. Great video, too. | |

Nichol, I want you to know that today I did the first layout I have done in AT LEAST a year. I didn't stamp/emboss on it so I can't submit it for your challenge, but I did use your layout as a jumping-off point for the one I did. I used Doodlebug stuff and Bo-Bunny, MM and Cosmo Cricket, all sorts of stuff and even used flocking for the first time ever. I had so much fun and a large part of it was because I was so inspired by your layout. Thank you so much! I signed up for the Layout a Day (LOAD) challenge and this was just a perfect way to start. |
| When I went to edit my signature, the "Edit Signature" title was spelled wrong. So that was distracting and I forgot what I wanted my new signature to be. | |

Lovely LO!
Just a question - I don't emboss, tried it, hated it. I don't own any supplies to emboss & even if I hadn't tried it & wanted to try it, my scrappin funds are limited and would not stretch to including embossing supplies.
Can we use another medium like glitter or flocking powder with the stamps on our layout for participation/entry into challenge contest?
Thanks!

I haven't heat embossed on a layout in forever (not including that I haven't scrapped for a year!) I usually play with heat embossing just on cards... need to clear off desk, grab some photos and play!

I really feel that in order to be fair to the people who have already participated we need to keep it heat embossing this month. However if you would like to share a link to a layout you've created that was inspired by this technique that used glitter or flocking I would love to see!
I do realize that not every month's class will be something that everyone loves but my hope is that throughout the year there will be enough variety of techniques/ideas shared that will inspire stamping in your scrapbooks in some way or another.
Thanks! |

It is quite addicting. I recommend starting with a basic white or black and heat embossing something small like a title. Then you can move on to more colors! Have fun!!!! |

I know! But a lot of good, bad and good again life happened last year and well now I've got a lot of catching up to do! And I had totally missed your die cutting class, which would of come in handy since Santa had bought me a Silhouette that Christmas...but like I said life happens! But thankfully the clouds parted (at least for awhile see below ) and my mojo came back and with your classes and Jen's, I'll be catching up in no time!
I'm working on my layout for this month, but it's not going my way! I've been to three stores this weekend and no one has a red embossing powder that isn't glittery! Ahh! Oh well, I'll work with what I have. |

My favorite embossing powders are clear and white. The huge advantage to clear is that you can stamp in ANY ink color and use the clear embossing powder on it. It's the one I use 99% of the time followed by white. I have black but rarely use it. It gets REALLY messy and leaves black flecks a lot of times even when using an embossing buddy. Black ink embossed in clear ep is my choice.
I have done two pages now. Here is one I just posted:
Like Father Like Daughter
Now off to do more. I stamp on all of my pages. Gotta love stampin' and scrappin'. |

Am I missing something? Some of the layouts attached to the stamping challenge don't appear to relate to the challenge. Is this normal and something I should get used to?
I love looking at layouts created by other members for the same challenge and think its nice to leave comments too. Bit like giving classmates feedback, but its difficult when they don't seem to relate.

I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, members click challenge checkboxes when uploading that are sometimes unrelated to a challenge. When drawing a winner for the challenge, we make sure the challenge winning entry qualifies and if not, we draw again. This is why we strongly encourage members to follow the challenges before checking challenge checkboxes, and we also invite those participating to share a link within the class thread.
This is also why I strongly, strongly encourage my class participants to include a brief write up when they upload their project for the challenge so that I can easily ascertain that the challenge was followed. I view every project submitted for the class challenge so that only the ones that have followed the challenge are included in the giveaway at the end of the month.
I have shared this concern with Jamie and we are working on a way to be able to make it easier to only see the layouts that have followed the challenge each month. |

This was fun even though as I was about to stamp I was thinking "OMG I'm stamping and embossing right on my layout!" but I got over it! I did mess up and just turned my layout over and started again...even after practicing on scraps! But I do like the end result.
Thanks Nichol for pushing us to evolve our stamping

Patter, I do have and used my stamp-a-ma-jig for positioning and love it. It was the coverage and color of the embossing powder that didn't work. But after some more playing with other colors it was good! |

Cool Carolyn! Glad you have one. They are GREAT! I use mine even for wood-mount stamps because sometimes the stamp isn't placed on just perfectly. Yes, a perfectionist here. LOL! And I have been boring by just using my favorite clear embossing powder. I need to play with colors but nothing matches my photos right now, and I have to match. Again, that perfectionist coming out. LOL! |

Struggling with this one.
I've embossed lots of different flowers but then decided to cut round the flowers to give a different shape. I hate it so I think I might start again! Maybe I should have gone with the flow rather than trying to copy the sketch.
I won't let it defeat me though!!!! |

HI, I forgot to check off the box for the challenge when I uploaded my project. I embossed the gears. Oh well!
I had a question about cutting borders in the Silhouette. How do I take a floral border and increase the length without increasing the size of the scallops or other items? In other words I want it to be like punching a border with a Fiskars edge punch. I just cannot seem to figure it out. Thanks Susan |
