A couple of years ago, Sandy (colourful) generously sent me a word document of how she put together the SOF 2008 event's Master Thread. I'm eternally grateful to her. I did change the original document so if you see errors here, please let me know. If you want to thank someone for the organization, track down Sandy!

Welcome to Winterfest 2011!

This year, Winterfest will begin Saturday, March 5 and continue through Sunday, March 13. That will give working Peas two full weekends to play. After that, Hangover Week Challenges will begin on Monday, March 14, for those who just did not get enough during Winterfest!

If you're new to our board, here are links to our previous events so you can get an idea of what to expect. Unfortunately, the links in the oldest threads are no longer operable, but you can still see the Master Threads and get ideas. They are a part of our history so I'm including them:

Worldwide Stamping Weekend 2007
Stamptoberfest 2007

WinterStamp 2008
Worldwide Stamping Week 2008
Stamptoberfest 2008

Winterfest 2009
Stamptoberfest 2009

Winterfest 2010
Stamptoberfest 2010

DETAILS ABOUT HOW OUR EVENTS WORK

1. Opening Day is Saturday, March 5. On Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4, hosts and hostesses will post their challenge threads and blog posts giving the details for participating in their challenges. Even if the host has indicated a theme beforehand, be sure to check the challenge thread for complete instructions. Don't start early! Wait for the last-minute directions. (Some hosts will be adding a twist to their instructions to be sure you do not start ahead!) This Master Thread will have links to both the challenge threads AND blog posts.
2. Upload your work to the stamping gallery. If you are new to posting, see the end of this original post for instructions.
3. Be sure to check the correct boxes under Member Challenges when you post. If you do this, your piece is automatically linked to the blog post.
4. Do not link to projects completed previously; we want to see your new creations!
5. A single project may apply to multiple challenges unless the host says otherwise in his/her instructions. Deborah (Gram-pea) is still the champion of combining challenges.
6. Throughout the week, keep an eye on the stamping board for chatty challenges (some with RAK's) that will appear during Winterfest 2011!
7. You can start uploading projects once Two Peas has the checkboxes available in the Member Challenges section. Two Peas is located in the CST Time Zone so the check boxes will open and close according to that time zone. (When you post to the gallery, look for that link and see if Winterfest 2011 (WF11) items are listed. If not, you're too early.)
8. Ask questions! During the event we will have a Trouble-Shooting Thread, but feel free to ask things here for right now.

HINTS AND TROUBLE-SHOOTING
Click on the magnifying glass below this thread's title to add it to your watch list. Then you'll be able to access it quickly by clicking on My Watch List in the sidebar to the left of your screen.

Trouble-Shooting Thread.
If your question isn't answered in the how-to sections below, post your questions and frustrations in the Trouble-Shooting Thread. I hope everyone will check in from time to time to answer questions.

Posting Links in Blog, Message Board, and Gallery

Broken or Missing Links: How to Find What You're Looking For

How to Find The List of Blogs Offering Challenges

In Case of a Two Pea Outage: Save the blog entries to the challenges that interest you the most on your computer. That way you'll have the instructions if Two Peas becomes overwhelmed with the increased traffic caused by our event. We sometimes lose contact with Two Peas on Opening Day for a little while. Just keep checking back. If you have saved some of the challenges, you'll be able to work on them while waiting for the board to revive. During our most recent events, Two Peas worked perfectly.

ABOUT POSTING A CHALLENGE IN YOUR BLOG
Don't let the word blog scare you away. We're not talking about a BLOG with all the bells and whistles. We're talking about a little blog. We all have one here on Two Peas. Posting there is much the same as posting in a thread.
1. At the top of the screen, just above the big title that says Message Board is a row that starts out with the word MY followed by the words Account, Content, Blog, etc.. Click on Blog.
2. Put in the title of your Challenge. Begin with WF11. That way all Winterfest Challenge Boxes will be together, and participants will be able to find them easily.
3. The next line says Post Type. Click on the down arrow, and select Challenge.
4. After selecting Challenge, another line will open up. This is where you put the starting date (03/05/11) and the ending date (03/13/11). Actually, when you go to the blank space to input the date, a calendar will open up and you can just click on the correct date. Note: It's never too late to start a challenge, so if you get an idea for a challenge in the middle of Winterfest, go ahead and post it. You can also post a challenge for just a day or two; just change the dates accordingly.
5. Now, in the box under "Post Content," just write out your challenge. If the board is slow, you might have to wait for the Content Box to open. Start out with the opening and closing dates because the dates you just submitted only tell Two Peas when to open and close your challenge's checkbox. The people reading your challenge won't see those dates.
6. If you posted samples in the gallery, you can link them here. Also it's a good idea to put in a link to your challenge thread.
7. When you post your challenge thread on the message board, include a link to your blog. Use the URL for your challenge, not for the opening page of the blog. If you are in the right place, you'll see "You are viewing a single post. Click here to visit ___'s Blog." right above the box with your message. If you don't see that message, then click on the title of your challenge to take you to that page.

ABOUT POSTING IN THE GALLERY

1. They've changed the gallery. To post your project, put your cursor over MEMBER GALLERY at the top of the screen. Select the option UPLOAD A NEW PROJECT. (The edit option is now in the left sidebar.)
2. Follow the step-by-step directions. Be sure to select Stamping Gallery.
3. Give your project a title. For Winterfest 2011, put WF11 at the start of your title and include what challenge it's for. For example, WF11: Serendipity Challenge.
4. Be sure to describe your project in the comments section. If possible, include the source of your stamps. Tell what coloring medium and technique you used.
5. Once you have posted your project in the Stamping Gallery, go to the challenge thread and post a link to your gallery post; this will put the challenge thread back to the top of the board and assure that it doesn't drop out of sight. This step will keep the challenge threads circulating. The Challenge Thread is also the place to ask questions and to chat with other participants about the challenge.

**WF11 CHALLENGES**

Hosts and Hostesses: I will post your challenge here as I find out about them. Let me know if I should delete or add your name. If you have a theme in mind or supplies and tools people will need to participate in your challenge, let me know and I'll add them to this list. You can leave a message on this thread. Remember you don't have to offer a RAK in order to host a challenge.

It's never too late to post a challenge. If you decide you'd like to post one for just a day or two or half-way through the week, go ahead and post it. Leave a message on this thread with a link if you can, and I'll add it to the list as soon as I see it.

Breaking News: If you post/posted your challenge after about 11am on Saturday, you need to let Jamie Sorenson know through Pea-mail so she can manually hook your challenge up to the mechanism that gives people points on their badges.

Participants: Be sure to check the discussion threads and blogs for complete details on each challenge. Also, when you participate in a challenge, leave a message on the Challenge Thread with a link to your gallery post so that the challenge thread goes back to the top of the board. It's good to keep the challenge threads rotating on the board. Let's keep them on page 1!

Decided on a challenge, Dar. I'll do the blog soon & ship you a sample before WF11 gets underway. I'm going to be nautical, but nice...

WF11 Challenge (all week): Stamper Ship

Using your image stamps you must build a seaworthy craft. It can be anything from a raft to a cruise ship & anything inbetween including pirate ships & canoes. You do not have to have boat stamps to do this--in fact it's 'better' if you don't. Makes it more of a challenge, but whatever (stamps) float your boat...

Once you're done, get it launched to the gallery & link it the challenge thread. Yo Ho Ho--inkers aweigh!

Daniel, you always can make me laugh. I'll sign you up.

Remember, everybody, don't try to post anything until Winterfest begins.

Also, hosts and hostesses, it might be a good idea to name your challenge but withhold the details until the Thursday and Friday before opening day. Keep us guessing.

If your challenge requires special supplies, you can mention that now so everyone who wants to play can get what they need.

Jamie has a thread where she asks us what we'd like Two Peas to do for us during our event. Make sure you check it out and reply. Among other things, she's interested in classes and videos. What would you like to see? This is your chance to be heard:

What would you like to see from Two Peas for an upcoming stamping event?

Thanks, Jamie.

Thank you so much for organising this again Daria!!! I have a whole bunch of new stamps waiting to be inked up, but...

Unfortunately we are going to be away during Winterfest. Such terribly bad timing. I was hoping we weren't going until after Winterfest, but no luck there. We should return on the Saturday, so I will play during Sunday and during Hangover Week.

I still want to host my challenge. Hopefully, we won't have any problems with internet connections. If I can't manage to post it in time, I will let you know and will then host my challenge during Hangover Week instead.

Oooh haven't popped in here for a while (haven't done much stamping for a while either!) so glad I chose now to have a look.

I will offer to host another challenge again, this one will be called a stitch in time, and again I will offer a 2ps gift certificate to a randomly chosen winner.

Anna-Karin, phooey! I was hoping you'd be able to play with us this time. Thank you for offering to hostess a challenge anyway, but don't feel like you have to. As you can see, we are getting lots of wonderful challenges. I hope you can play next time.

Jan and Suzanne, thank you for volunteering to hostess challenges. I've added them to the list. I'm intrigued by both of them. Dimension in Metal--no special metal or tools needed??? A Stitch in Time--I just finished my very first embroidered card so this title has made me curious.

I'm at Nora's house, and she's trying to help me use her Apple. I'm used to my PC so it's been challenging. I keep trying to push the little button, and all sorts of weird stuff pops up. My lesson for today--don't push the button. And where's the back-up key? Oh, the delete key is the back-up key. My computer has both, and they do different things.

Enough. (Except one more thing--they keyboard is half the size of mine!) I think I'm getting the hang of it. Thanks, Nora. Really.

Hi, Maggie. Welcome aboard! Your idea for a challenge sounds wonderful. I'll add you name to the list.

I clicked on your name and saw the wonderful heart pendant you posted in the Project Gallery. I didn't even know we had a Project Gallery! It's not on the drop-down list under Member Gallery, and it's not on the list in the left sidebar. The only way I could access it was to go to Digital Gallery or Designer Gallery and then backtrack to plain old Gallery. Weird!

Welcome to the Stamping Board!

Thanks, Sherry. I added the name of your challenge. Anything with words like "sew" or "stitch" intrigues me since I love the look of stitches on a card. I still haven't managed to conquer machine-sewing, but I recently did some embroidery on a card. I'm curious about what your challenge will be.

Daniel, I agree with you; however, you won't see mine any time soon. First I have to decide upon a challenge. I usually have a few ideas floating around in my head or absolutely none at all. Then I wait and see what others are posting so I don't duplicate theirs. Actually, there have been times when I wished I'd gotten mine in first!

We do have a lot of challenges!

LOL, Dar! Haven't sewn in years, but used to do tons--mostly machine. Should be interesting to see what the hosts come up with...

And I KWYM about coming up with challenges. It's usually feast or famine for me, too. Far as 'duplicating'? I understand where you are coming from, but I actually like it when a couple of the challenges have something in common. 'Specially 'cause each Challenge Host brings their own special flavor to their challenge.

I don't mind admitting that I've got my 'eye-dea' on some of the upcoming WF11 challenges already...

Hi Daria,

The name of my challenge is going to be: Celebrate Spring Color.

Participants will need: 1. several coloring mediums of their choice including at least one that they have never worked with before; 2. at least one border punch or punch around the page punch set.

Thank you!

LOL, Daniel, I did think of you when I wrote that and suspected you had probably tried them all. I wonder what would happen if you combined plain gelatin, a wee bit of floral perfume and watercolor? (Not being a chemist I haven't a clue if that would even be safe or if it would even work). You could have a scratch 'n' sniff spring flower card.

Anne, your message board post and blog post can serve as examples for our new challenge hosts! You're right no one can possibly start your challenge early! LOL.

By the way, I accidentally started another challenge thread, but I'm only doing the 1 challenge: Praise and CASE.

Betsy, I am probably just going to host and not play this time, but, if I did play, I don't think I'd qualify for your challenge either. I've used pigment inks, chalk inks, permanent inks, waterproof inks, dye inks, distress inks, alcohol inks, watercolors, markers, chalk, crayon, colored pencil, acrylics, watercolor pencils, mists and sprays, embossing, using waxed paper, vellum, bleach, Perfect Pearls, Dimensional Pearls, Liquid Pearls, Pearl Ex, Lumiere, gold leafing, paint pens, and more. I can't think of a method for adding color that I haven't tried.

Perhaps you could suggest a number of color methods? Like we should use 3 different color methods? Or something? Just a suggestion. Perhaps word it so that you have to use something you haven't already used, OR a certain number of different color methods? As a fall-back position?

Gosh, I haven't been around for a long time. Glad I popped in, and definitely plan to participate at least till the 10th., when I'm going away for two weeks.

Thanks loads, Daria, for putting this together for us again!

I'll host two challenges:

KISS

and

Say WHAT!?

More to follow on each challenge as the time draws closer.

A stamping gift will be offered for the winner of each challenge.

LOL, Betsy! Glad you thought of me when you came up with your terrific challenge for WF11. Up to you if you decide to 'tweak' it far as the 'un-used' color medium goes. I actually think it's a great idea--'specially for those of us who have used lots of coloring agents. You're gonna make us really think outside the box--my favorite place to work, pal!

Deborah, I'm so happy to see you here! I didn't think you'd have time to play this year; I know you're busy. I'll gladly add your two challenges to the list.

Betsy, I'm still thinking.

For those of you who who have tried every coloring medium, there are alternatives in the challenge, so not to worry.

I have posted my blog and challenge thread. Feel free to ask if you have questions.

Can't wait to see what this is all about. Will check out the other threads over the weekend. Hope it's easy to work out.

Love the fact that one includes praising someone else's work. I think its great to give and get comments

I named one of my challenges, I Remember Mary Jane. It's all ready to go, sample included. However, I leaving for Nora's right now so I'll post it when I return. Hopefully, I'll decide upon my second challenge sometime today.

Nora said I could use her computer today to keep the Master Thread current, but you know her Apple and I don't get along very well. We'll see.

We have 17 challenges! Most of them are already posted so you can all start playing.

There are a few that are named, but not posted yet; and there are a few TBA, including my second one. I'm still thinking!

There are lots of very original challenges. Enjoy.

Daria

ETA: It's never to late to add a challenge. If you think of one you'd like to offer one, just start a Discussion Thread on the Message Board and post your Challenge Blog. I'll see it and add it to the list.
