morning ladies!
this week, it's decision time! start small or go for broke...
so, the question of the week, ofcourse, is are you going to start small or go broke?
during round 2, i went for broke - i emptied every piece of paper, stamp, and embellishment out of this room and stored it all in my bedroom - what a disaster, but well worth it! i vacuumed, i wiped down the walls, and i started with a clean slate.

LOL...copying and pasting from week2 thread...I knew I'd find Cristi's post after I posted this one.

I WANT Woodgrain thickers now!! Thanks, Amanda...enabler Luv ya!
So DH told DS he has to get his room in order before our trip...(hello, couldn't you have told him this BEFORE spring break started, rather than wait til today, as school resumes tomorrow!)...so he's in there bawling that he has to give away HIS stuff. I tried to tell him its for kids less fortunate for him, and that he will have NEW things to put in its place. Then, he spun the whole thing and asked why I don't have to get my room in order. OH, MY! I need to set a better example, so after I help him with his stuff, I'll be sure to get to mine. I SOOOO need an intervention!!
And a big ol' cup of Starbucks!!
Hope everyone is ready for the big 'clean slate'... I feel the need to do just that. AGAIN!
ETA: I'm probably doing the "HOT SPOT TROT" and not the clean slate, because I have things in the room that completely work, and don't need to be re-done. Just 'touch-up' and purge! |

Kris (74)- will post picks of my awesome new thickers on Tues. Totally adorable!
Oh, and to the new gals, *hugs* for participating. I am just as chatty (except when DH is MIA with work and I only get to the laptop like once every 3 days!) as Kris. Just jump in to the conversation anytime!
Lisa-Totally happy to enable! Oldest Child tried that one on me. I said when you can pay rent/ mortgage and are old enough to be drafted, then talk to me about keeping a clean room! (I am such a horrible mom)
I am finally to the tweaking stage, but in round 2 I did go for broke!

Good afternoon Girls!
Hope all is well with you all. Last week was a nightmare and a half. I had a double dose of the flu and strep. Needless to say I didn't even walk into my scrap area. BUT I'm ready this week.
I will NOT be clean slating it since I don't really need that extreme.
HOWEVER, I am thinking about totally redoing my area. Not sure why, just feeling the urge, LOL! (feel free to talk me out it because I really don't need to! ). |

Wow, lots of good reading here with these rounds of the OYSC... I can't do the "go for broke total overhaul", so I will be doing the "start small" reorganization. My room isn't really too bad, but I did haul out a swiffer duster and cleaned off my desk, dusted, and vacuumed the small amount of rug I have here. Already I feel good

Hi ladies. I just posted my space audit and brainstorming -- getting caught up after being MIA for a week and a half for Spring Break vacation. I'm not going for broke (I don't think). I basically like my layout but need to tweak a few things. But I may change my mind if we really overhaul the room and make it more multi-functional as my hubby wishes... Not sure I'm up for that?!? |

Hey guys- just popping in.. if you remember I was thinking of repainting which would mean a "clean slate" for me... well DH tore his biceip tendon off and had surgery this week and is out of commission for at least 2 month...he is my "painter" so I am stepping back and punting. At least my room is fine the way it is.
When I did round 1 I didn't start out with the clean slate method..but by week 9 I realized I had pulled more out than I had in!! Thats just how things go when stuff starts getting repositioned etc.. I had boxes in our guest room and all the way down the hall. But as Cristi can tell you its soo worth it. |

Hi everyone! I still haven't done the work for the first two weeks yet, so feeling a little delinquent here.
I'm joining Janet in the Hot Spot Hitters club this time around. I did the clean slate last round and it made a world of difference then. This round, I'm looking to finish some areas that didn't get done last time and tweak the areas that aren't really working. The really big hot spot for me is my painting/misting/messy stuff area. Surprisingly it gets pretty messy!! Unfortunately, it also stays that way. I'm doing a clean sweep of that corner this weekend and will have to figure out what to do with the detritus. My paints and mists have homes, it's mostly the masks, rags, old paintbrushes, etc. that clutter it up so there's no room to work.
Actually, now that I think of it, I'd love to raise the worksurface, too. Hmmm... perhaps I can rig up some storage to raise the worksurface. |

I really think I'd like to do the "go for broke" method. It won't be too hard for me to drag my stuff out of my "area" of the bonus room and reorganize it. I think I'll be able to see what I really want to do with everything if I do it that way. I just hope my DH doesn't decide to go up there! I'm not sure he'd understand what was going on!
BTW, Amanda, your blogs just crack me up! I LOVE reading them!

Hi everyone
QOTW: I would love to go for broke, paint the room and put new trim up but the house buying deal is still in limbo. We go meet with laywers this week and hopefully after 3 years of waiting have some kind of deal. So I will just go small this round again, I haven't gone for broke in all the times I've joined this challenge. One of these times I may have to. Maybe this week I'll just spring clean and take everything out that doesn't belong in there. Maybe by the end of the week everything will be in place and I'll decide to go for broke but I still need to be able to use my stuff so we'll see.
Amanda I think I have trained my husband pretty good, this afternoon he see's the book I made and asks me if I plan to buy the Bind it All or Cinch in a way that implies that I should be doing that this very minute. I had just borrowed it from my place of work to make the book. So now I have to decide which one to get, I've used both and like both so I'm not sure.

Hi Everyone!
QOTW: Am going small this time and joining the Hot Spot Hitters and doing some major tweaking on problem areas like chipboard which WAS under control! I had a great weekend attending True Scrap with Lain Ehmann - live classes with some many fab instructors! Got inspired by Jennfifer McGuire, Lain and Noell and Shimelle and a few others - got a layout done in short order using my new Studio Calico kit.
Mel- I hope you feel better soon!
Amanda - DO NOT want to see those thickers- running out of room in alpha system!
Lisa- oh please I am with Amanda. You know how to clean you just don't have time because of the kids!
Beth - go for it. best thing I did last time was to pack it all up.
Vickie - I hope DH gets better fast! I had my biceps tendon moved two summers ago - took a long time to heal.
Jen- what a guy!

Hi Everyone,
QOTW: Are you going to start small or go broke?
I am going for broke. I have packed and moved most of my stuff out of my work area. Still have a few more things to pack up. I am storing everything in the guess room. Which is where most of my work in this challenge will take place. I decided I did not like having everything I own in my work area. I am going to use some space in the guess room for storage using the jetmax cubes. I have spent the last couple of weeks putting them together.
In my work area I want to
1. paint the walls
2. cover the floor ( )
3. cover my shelves with boards that are covered with material
4. set up new storage containers for shelves ( )
5. just maybe change my computer hutch for something else
In my storage/guess room I want to
1. put cubes together ( )
2. arrange them for storage
3. when happy with arrangement, label everything
( )=brought or done

I'll be starting small or as you ladies call it doing the HOT SPOT TROT! Until I get new furniture, and that may not happen this time around, I like things pretty much where they are and everything is already sorted. This will be more of a fine tune for many, many different categories. I'm lucky to have 2 big surfaces to work with and I've decided to use one of them to work on the weekly challenges. As each challenge comes up I'll move everything over to the table instead of boxing it up. This way I'll still be able to work in my room.
So instead of boxing things up, I'm using this week to pick up a little bit, and move my paper over to the 'Challenge Central' table.

I'm going for broke -- or, really, I went for broke a few weeks ago when we moved everything out to make way for new cabinets. I've been putting things back in as I figure out where things will go, sorting as I go. The one category that really needs work is my patterned paper, so I'm looking forward to that week!
Went to CKC in St. Louis and didn't buy out the house. That was partly a result of all of the sorting the last few weeks, seeing how much I do have. Things I bought were connected to specific projects, not just because I thought they were pretty! (Also met Melissa Frances, and did a make and take taught by her at her booth. ) |

I'm going to have to sleep on this. I want to do the clean slate option--it would allow me to paint, for one thing. Plus the room really needs it. But I filled my garage to near capacity when my sister moved in, so there's really nowhere for the stuff to go. A clean slate would be best, but I don't know if I'll be able to do it. |

Hot spot trot here! Having moved into our new home just last June, I did the clean sweep-- no choice on that one. But I have a beautiful space with two windows, a closet, and it is right off the room where everyone watches TV. So I'm close and can hear the family, but can close the door if needed!
Many of the major trouble spots have been done, and most of my work will be later on in the challenge (thinking ideas, ribbons, possibly stamps, and memorabilia)
Off to finish a LO! |

Good morning. Like many of you, I think that I'll do the Hot Spot this round. I have one wall that I'm trying to figure out how to use more effectively so I'll be working on that. I've already moved the chest of drawers from that wall to my bedroom and am in the middle of (as in the middle of the floor) moving everything else from that wall. My plan is to put a small storage cabinet there that I bought from a friend's store that was closing. I need to do a little repair work on the cabinet before I move it downstairs though. So now that I've said this in print, it makes it real and I have to get it done! If I can get that accomplished this week, I'll be (let's say it together now) WINNING!
Have a great week everyone. Maria

I am going to be a Hot Spot Trotter. As much as I would like to do a complete oeverhaul, I work, so I don't have much time to do the total overhaul. I'm not sure where I will start, but my stamps are in need of major organization, so maybe I'll start there! |

Hey girls, I'm going to join you for this round. I am moving in about 7 weeks, so I will be Going For Broke! and I'll also be about 7-10 weeks behind you all in the organizing since I'm moving then. I'd box it all up now, but I don't want to give up scrapbooking for the next 7 weeks! I'm going to need the therapy.
So, I'll be a rather inactive member of the challenge but I wanted to say hi anyways!

I'm going to do the Hot Spot Trot again for this round. My room is somewhat organized; I just need to tweak a few areas.
In fact, I'm already working on organizing my ideas. I went through my old magazines and idea books and cut out the ideas I want to save. I have 42 magazines and 16 ideas books in the recycle bin. I saved the 2009 issues of SB Trends for a friend. I will file the ideas when we get to week seven. |

HI, all
I would love to go for broke but i really don't have any place to store my things so right now I'm doing things in stages. I have group things into bins. However, what is in this room isnot all my things. the ohter half of items are still at my parents' house along with my mom's sewing things. Last year we moved into a very small trailer and I couldn't take everything I had. so I left things there and it will probably remain there until the fall. so I figure if I can do this room and get a system set up then when I get a chance to go over to my mom's I can reorganize and put things into system that i have set up here. then moving in fall should be a breeze I hope lol
I've order more cropper hoppers, so just waiting for them to come in but I'm planning to go thur papers and put new papers I have in a box for now (at the time, I didn't have any hoppers to put them in). so that shouldn't take me long to work on them. Right now, I'm finishing up my vacation swap and my project for blog hop this friday. then after that I can get started.
I would love to paint and rip up the carpet but we're renting so that is out of the question. lol Looking forward to everyone's room.

Somebody needs to hit me over the head and knock some sense into me. Or have Bouncers at M's that won't let me in until I've used most of my paper, I probably don't even need to say more or maybe I just needed something to do in paper week.
So I bought the Blossom Song stack today and a week ago I bought the Mademouselle Stack. Sad, sad, sad. |

I just emptied my scrapbook room late last December when I pulled up the carpet and replaced it with laminate. It was definitely soooo helpful to move everything out!
So, I think I'll just do some clearing of a couple of spaces. A bookshelf that is just housing "stuff" and a lower cabinet that needs help. I have however been able to come up with 2 boxes of things to purge. I need to list them here or put them on ebay. Big Red Sizzix anyone??

Still packing everything up. I thought I only had a few things left to pack but stuff seems to be coming out corners from everywhere.
Well hopefully I will be packed up before next week (paper )

Took some photos of how my room currently looks ... in all its' messy glory!
Round 4 - BEFORE photos
And here's a re-post from Round 3 (of a re-post from Round 2) that covers Week 3:
Here's my post from Week 3-Round 2, tweeked a bit because some areas are now working great and I don't need to pull everything out again. I do intend to go through each area to see if I can purge some more stuff. Although I'd still love to "go for broke", I can't put my business on-hold for any extended period of time.
Question of the Week: Who's starting small? Who's going for broke?
I'd love to go for broke, but with my room serving double-duty as an office for my business, I can't manage the chaos. Plus, I love the paint color, the L-shaped desk/hutch/bookcase combo works well and my Expedite serves its' intended function.
That being said, I'm joining the HOT SPOT HITTERS. I'm going to pull everything out of the Expedite and the drawers/doors/shelves of the desk combo, but based on each weekly category. That way I can re-vamp everything slowly, while still working in there.
I will admit that some categories have grown since Round 2, and now Round 3. Fellow Peas can cause a shopping stir when discussing things like punches, Thickers and spray stuff.
Heads-up everyone ... paper is next week! |

Just finished reading through all the replies and there's a great bunch of fellow organizers here. It's a nice mix of newbies and return organizers. Let the ideas flow!
Mel - Glad you're feeling better.
Denise - Welcome back from Spring Break. We are off next week.
Tina - I'm seriously jealous of your two weeks "husband-free"!
Cindy - Way to go on purging all those magazines and books already! |

Well, checking in for the week... looks like there are lots of "clean slate"s and lots of "hot spot trot"s too. I am a clean slate, except I don't think I am going to paint, and I don't know if I can move everything out, as I am not sure where to put it. But everything is def. getting changed up... and as I get things in the bins, jars, etc... where they are going to go, then I will move them out of the room, or at least get them stacked neatly in a corner of the room until I get a chance to get my Expedits. I don't know when that will be... but I am starting to get my ideas together... I went and read through the blog bonus for overhaulers, and I have got my sketches down, just tweaking the final spots for some things... Like for instance, my chipboard. It needs to be with my embellishments, and not my patterned papers, but I am out of room in the embellishment storage area... so still working on a plan. And the inspiration for the room, my flamingos??? I am having a hard time trying to figure out where they are going to go, and all the decorative accessories! I want it to be an oasis, and that means a few pieces that give off my tropical vibe... This sure is fun! |

Yay for the new computer, Cristi! I missed you too, that's why I'm stalking you here of course. J/K I have been wanting to do some organizing and the move is the perfect opportunity.
Hubby wants me to get an external hard drive for my photo storage. Yes, I want it too. And we talked about the design of our future house that we may build in a few years and I was like, couldn't we have two computers. One for the family and one for my scrap room? . . . sigh! Wish we were rich!
Organizing-wize, I went through the first 3 weeks and took some notes today. Now it's time to start packing! I decided to do a "30 posts in 30 days" blog challenge to make up for not scrapbooking in the next several weeks. Now I can get all my scrappy stuff purged and packed. I'm looking forward to it! |

Crisit,
That new laptop has been long over-due. Congrats and enjoy!
Now all the time you save by not sitting around waiting for things to open can be used for organizing and crafting. |

Lisa, just had to thank you for pointing me in the direction of Sketch Support! The new sketch is PERFECT for a LO I was stuck on!
Cristi, YAY for the new laptop!
Well, despite the bad back (which is quickly getting better...thank goodness I had been working out regularly before it happened, I think that has helped my recovery), I did the big CLEAN SWEEP! I'll be posting a blog with a picture later on today. I found some things I'll definitely be selling/RAKing in the near future. Does anyone still use eyelets? LOL! |

OK, I got my blog posted! Unfortunately, as I was writing it, I realized that DS will be home from college in three weeks and just MIGHT want to use the workout area, which is currently covered in my scrappy stuff! Looks like I'm going to have to rearrange my mess! |

My MIL just gifted me her old sewing machine since she bought a new fancy quilting machine. It's an older Singer cabinet-model with tons of options and still runs great. She helped me shortened some curtains and make matching pillows a few months ago and they turned out fantastic, but I have no idea how to use this machine by myself.
And of course I had the perfect wall space for this piece six months ago ... but then I went and purchased a 2x2 Expedit (read about it here) not knowing she planned on getting herself a new machine. Right now it's in my dining room because there's tons of light there and a huge table to use as a work surface. Plus, there's room for it.
I'd love to have it in my scroffice, but there's just no space. So eventually it will go upstairs in the girl's new lounge because my oldest daughter learned to sew on a machine in middle school. Hopefully with a few lessons from my MIL, I can whip-up some stuff and maybe even sew on a few layouts.
Mental note: add sewing machine lessons to very long list of this to do |

Question of the week: I'm going to try and do a little of both. Some areas I like in my room, or I just recently emptied those areas out and reorganized them. Other areas, I need to remove everything inside and start fresh. I've posted pictures to my scrapbook room below. It's a huge mess! Luckly, we have a finished attic on what we call "the 3rd story of our house." So we can just close the door to the stairs and mostly only myself or my husband go up there. I really need to empty out a few areas and start over. I recently converted a row of old dresser drawers to an open shelf bookcase holding my bins sorted by color. Loving this so far. At the end of the challenge, I will need to paint these shelves and actually make them permanent. I also need to empty the closet and start over with the organizing in there. And continue to purge, purge, purge.
