DH is looking for a job. We currently live in the DFW area, but he has a possible job interview in Denison. I am hesitant about moving because DD is a freshman, and would hate to move. DH really wants to get out of DFW, so he wants to at least consider it.

So, can anyone give me any information on the area? I'm also doing an internet search, but I thought I'd check here too.

Thanks,

Anita

I don't know a huge amount about Denison but it is at the TX/OK border where our lake house is........Lake Texoma. It is just a sleepy town that doesn't have much in it. They have a little downtown area with a few shops. There is a Walmart. Otherwise, you will be going to Sherman for most of your shopping or even driving into McKinney, Allen, Plano, Dallas. There is a mall in Sherman but I have never been to it so I don't know what stores are there but I would think that it is probably a small mall because I don't think the area could support a large mall. Sherman has Sam's, Lowe's and some of these types of stores.

Honestly, I would not want to live there. I love having the lake house in that area because it is only an hour from our house to the lake house. How close do you live to U.S.75? If you are close to 75, your DH would be driving against the heavy traffic if he commuted.

Thanks Eebud. DH really wants to live in a small town, but I don't want to do that right now. We live in Grand Prairie, and I'd like to move to a better part of DFW, but I'm not sure I want to move to Denison. It's so hard when I know he wants this, but I'm not convinced it's the best thing for the family right now.

I appreciate the information.

Denison is not that far from DFW. Get out your map of the metroplex and see where you could live that would be suitable for you. Denison is growing just like every part of that area. You can probably find something you would like.

I like Denison, but I grew in small town NE Texas. You can afford more home and have acres of affordable land in the area. You have quick access to anywhere via I35 and Hwy 82. Gainesville is the closest big city shopping but Sherman is not too terribly bad. Sherman also has a good medical network of doctors and hospitals.

I grew up in the waters of Lake Texoma so I have fond childhood memories of the area. My only concern would be future job opportunities if this one fell through. I would think you could easily live in Anna (34 miles), Melissa or even McKinney (45 miles) while your DH commuted. His drive would not be too bad because he would be driving the opposite flow of rush hour traffic and you would be close to the city amenities. It's a good compromise.

I agree with WillowJane and the others. Melissa, Anna or McKinney would be a great place to live and still be a fairly easy commute for your husband.

Good luck!

Grand Prairie is too far to commute. I also agree with Melissa, Anna or McKinney and will throw in Van Alstyne.

WillowJane, do you still go to Lake Texoma? That is where we are much of the summer. Love Lake Texoma!

Thanks again everyone. If he's offered the job, it will take some major discussions before we make a decision. He currently has a 10 minute commute to work, and he hates to drive much more than that, so he would definitely want to live in Denison. Up until about 6 months ago, I worked in Carrollton, and had about an hour + commute (with traffic). Ugh. I really want him to get a job, but I'm just not sure about this particular job. We'll see how it goes.

Hey eebud,

I haven't been to Texoma in ages!!! I always loved going to the lake with sandy shores. It was such a novelty to build sand castles and not be on the ocean even if the sand was red!!! We camped quite a bit at the park around Burns Run - every summer we were front and center on the shores. We live in Central Texas now and frequent Lake Canyon and the various spring fed swimming holes. Ahhh, good times growing up in that area. Just enough activity to keep us kids busy while not letting us get into too much trouble.
