I am sure this question has been asked at least 1983741098735 times, but I can't get the search to pull any up.
I have a cricut expression and I love it. I'm just curious what the main differences are between the silhouette and the expression??
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!!!

The silhouette can cut pretty much any image you can create or find online and any font that you have on your computer. You can buy shapes from the silhouette store or from various websites, or you can trace images to cut. It has to be hooked up to the computer or you can use SD cards but you have to prepare your file fully on the computer before transferring it to the SD card and used in the silhouette. The silhouette can only cut up to about 7.6" wide.

There are so many considerations for any individual in choosing a cutter, but I know the thing that is super important to me is accurate cutting. My Cricut E does NOT cut accurate circles or scallops...and it is the 2nd machine. I gave up after that....but, I still use it.
This image is a comparison between the same cut on the left with the Silhouette and the Cricut on the right.

BiscuitScraps - love your comparison Milk Samples. Cute!
I agree completely, the Silhouette cuts much more precise, true to shape and can can handle much more intricate shapes and details. Fonts cut much much better.

It's so true that the silhouette cuts better. I had a lot of problems with funky cuts with my E and so far the silhouette cuts are perfect. I posted a review on the blog that TheBiscuitScraps linked above.

Do you have a source of some sort?? I really want to get a Silhouette, but I like the ability to make larger cuts. If there will be a Silhouette that will cut 12" coming out soon(ish), I can wait.

Don't quote me, because I probably have some of this wrong, but the makers of Silhouette loosely confirmed a 12" machine "might" be in the works, but it wouldn't be available for at least the next 4 months or so. So not quite a concrete confirmation, but strong speculation at this point.
I'm in no hurry; until that 12" cutter comes out I have an E and the small Cricut that are working okay for me with my SCAL.

First, thank you everyone for your responses!!
I read the comparison chart from the pazzles vs. silhouette post and it said that the silhouette was only compatible with PCs? The chart was from 2009 so I was curious if that was still the case... I'm a Mac girl!!

It's compatible with Macs now. We are Mac only in this house too!

Here is a web site that compares many of the older machines - not just the Silhouette and Cricut. Do the research and decide what works best for you.

I really appreciate blogs like this that convince me about whether or not I want to buy a certain item like the Silhoette. I am going to wait patiently for the machine that will cut 12 x12 and put it on my Santa list. I have had a Cricut Expression for three years, but there are just too many digital dies out there that I want.

I used the paperthreads site to make my comparison of die cut machines a couple of years ago. I ended up going with the Pazzles because it cut2 12 inches. Love it.
