Hello Ladies:

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I need to get my tree down, but do not feel like packing the ornament storage tote, tree storage tote, etc up the stairs to do it...

Waving hi to everyone.

Hello All,

I'm new to this site and also to this message board. I have been reading everyone's posting and I can relate to you. I feel like I'm right there with everyone else. I would love to be a part of this chat circle. I can relate to being in a funk. I have never gotten help or medication, but there are days when I just don't feel like getting out of bed. I don't do anything, I just sit around the house all day, I don't go out, I don't call anyone, and I don't have a lot of people that call me so I don't have to worry about incoming calls. When I sit around the house all day I don't even do anything productive. Most of the time with days like that I don't even eat. If my husband is ever home he gets on to me and tells me I have to eat something, but with his work schedule he is gone a lot so I don't have to worry about him much. I really think that what a lot of my problem is, is lonelyness. My kids graduated school close together and they both enlisted into the Marine Corp. My son has been gone since July of 07 and my daughter has been gone since November of 07. I think I'm having a serious problem with empty nest. My daughter and I used to do so much together. She is now working on her second deployment so I can't even call and talk to her. The calls are few and far between. She was supposed to get out in August of 2012 but now she has re-enlisted for another four years and will be going to Italy, my son has also re-enlisted and my husband is still never home because of work, so there is no end in sight. I know that I just need to find things to do to keep myself busy, but I'm not the type of person to do things by myself, but I don't have a lot of friends and the few that I have don't really have the same interests as me so it's hard to hang out to much.

I hope that everyone else is doing well. I know that everyone has their own problems. I have been reading the posts and I like how you are all there for each other. I don't have anything like that around here. I would love to be a part of this circle if you will all have me.

Very down on her emotions Marine Mom of 2

Hi Patty....

Welcome to our little group...sorry we haven't been to talkative
lately...we seem to go in spurts....

BTT means "back to top" of the page....

We are in the middle of our first snowstorm of the season...we've
had literally no snow yet this winter...I live in a suburb of
Buffalo NY....so this is unheard of It really hasn't
been to cold out either...the mid 40's...today it is very cold
and windy...

Sandy...how you doing...I know I left you alone to long on here,
I seem to be doing better lately and I am going to try to be
here more often....

Flossie...it was great to hear from you...I bet those grand babies
are getting big...I just have not joined FB yet...I think
it would confuse me...don't they keep changing things around
over there...

I have to go shovel now...the snow keeps drifting in front
of my front steps...I am supposed to have plow service this year
but so far the guy has not shown up

I'll check back later

Hello:

Sorry I've been MIA. Nothing much going on. Just spending hours on the computer with David doing his schooling. Gosh I've been totally blown away by 9th grade Skills for Health class...It's not anything like my health class was.

Cheryl - so good to see you. I've surely missed you my friend. We are having a very cold snap here the last couple of days. Temps in the teens, winds to 35 miles per hour, a bit of freezing rain then a bit of snow on top of it.

I made a pot of bean soup, and a pot of chili - we'll have leftovers of it for the weekend. I'll make some cornbread tomorrow...I still need to make a pot of turkey soup - I'll probably freeze most of it. I'm holding out hope that we'll get a warming spell and this cold snap will just go away.

Waving Hi to everyone.

Hugs

Sandy....

There really hasn't been much happening here...I did much
better with Christmas this year..I didn't want to crawl under
my covers and stay there until the first of the year...LOL...

I has been unusually warm here...Lake Erie is still very warm (for this time of year)and isn't freezing...I was in my yard pulling weeds from my garden last week...the ground is so damp that the weeds were coming out very easy....up until yesterday we had only has 5 inches of snow all
season

Ryan is going back to school....he wants to be a History teacher...
he starts school on Tuesday...I don't know if I will make it through
that one...LOL... I hope you and David make it through 9th grade....

Your Chili and bean soup sound so good...I made turkey soup a couple weeks ago...I thought it was pretty good....I made stuffed shells for the first time last Tuesday...they were good...but I think it needed
more sauce to make it juicier....

I have get some work done...I'll check back later...

Have a great day

Hello Ladies,

Christmas was just okay here. Was just glad to see it go. Since 2007 when both of my kids enlisted I have had at least one of them home for Christmas, this year was the first that neither of them were home so it wasn't a good one for me. I already know next year neither of them will get to make it home so that will be 2 years in a row. Next year my daughter will be in Italy and my son will be deployed.

I made Potato soup a few weeks ago. I was really good. I had actually always made it in the crock pot so that it would cook all day while I was at work, but it was a weekend when I was going to make it and I got started late so I needed a different recipe that I could do on the stove top. I looked thru my cook books and found this one and so glad I did because this one is much better. I will be making this one from now on.

We are having a cold spell here in AR right now. Two days ago it was bitter cold and with the wind chill it was really bad. I went to work in the morning and then home when I got off and then never left the house again. Way to cold for me. It is starting to warm up again, still cold but nothing like the other day, 46 degrees today. I'm not a cold person, never have been and never will be. I like the spring and summer.

Well gotta go for now. Talk again later. Everyone be safe.

Hi Patty...

Sorry your Christmas wasn't great....could you possibly go to Italy
to see your daughter next year...my brother and sister in law went
to Japan to see my nephew when he was stationed there....

I love potato soup...but I have never made it..I guess I just haven't
found a great recipe...could you share yours...

It currently is 11 degrees outside...the high was 19...tomorrow the 30's
and by Wednesday near 50...this is not usual Buffalo weather...but
the Buffalo NY they portray on TV and movies is not the true Buffalo
either...we are not buried under 10 feet of snow year round...LOL...

Catch you later...

Cheryl

We are going to travel to Italy, but won't be during the holidays. First off we want to give her a chance to get over there and learn the area and all the different places that are over there so that she can be our tour guide. Also, we have been told that A good time to go when there aren't a lot of tourist is in May so we are probably looking at May of 2013. That will give her almost a year of being over there. If we go to early then it will be to long before I get to see her again since she hase to be there for two years and she probably won't take any leave while she is out there. This is going to be really hard for me. Her deployments are only 7 months, this two years in Italy is going to seem like an enternity. I just hope that we can talk more than we do with her deployment.

I would love to she my recipe with you. When you try it you will have to let me know what you think. I don't go by the exaxt amounts, I add more potato's than it calls for and for cheese. You just have to figure that out on you own, it depends on how many you feeding. I probably 9-12 cups of the potato's. Anyway here is the recipe.

6 cups potatoes, diced
1 cup carrots, slided (i use can of sliced carrots for this)
1 cup celery, diced (i didn't used this, but if you like use it)
1 med. onion, chopped
3-4 tablespoon flour
1/4 cup milk (i heated the milk when mixing with flour it mixes better, may need to add a little more milk, this amount wan't enouugh for me, just enough to get it mixed up)

1 can cream of chicken soup
3 cup milk
parsley flakes
salt and pepper to taste
3/4 cup velveeta cheese

Boil in water, potatoes, carrots (if using raw), celery, and onion until tender. Make a paste out of flour and 1/4 cup of milk. Add to potatoes. Add soup, milk, parsley, salt and pepper. Stir until thinkened. Add cheese at the end.

Another thing that I did, my daughter gave me this idea and I loved it, and this is optional because it's not part of the reciped. Add ham to the soup. It was yummy and smelled really good when it was cooking. You will just get some precooked ham and dice it up and add it to the potatoes when they are boiling. How much you want in there is up to you. I think I probably had about two cups and that's because that's all the ham I had. Next time I make it, I will put more ham in it. If you don't like ham you may want to leave this part out, but if you like it, it adds some more flavor to it. I hope you enjoy.

It's good on one of those cold days. I's not one for soups. I don't like most kinds of soup but I do think this potato soup and I do like to make it when it's cold outside.

Well gotta go for now. Finishing up with my daughter's birthday card. I have to have everything ready to pack up her box so that I can mail it out on Monday. It takes a couple weeks to get mail to her and want to make sure it makes it in time for her birthday. I mail her a box every week, but this one will have the stuff for her birthday so have to get it all done.

It's good talking to you Cheryl and everyone else. I like this message board. Gives me someone to talk to since my husband is gone all the timee and kids don't live at home anymore. Some adult conversation is nice. Keep it coming.

Hello Ladies:

Cheryl - I made a pot of turkey soup this evening, and a cake of cornbread. I love potato soup also. That is one soup I have made for years. Like Patty said I put ham in it. I have 2 aunts that have asked me to make it for dinner when they were coming. I also put dumplings in mine (Rival type only a bit wetter and I pinch them off and put into the boiling soup before adding the milk.

Patty - I can't imagine being away from my kids for deployment. It would be very hard I'm sure. My oldest moved out a year ago June and I still miss him, even though we usually talk at least once a day.

Well guess I'll log off here and watch some TV.

Waving Hi to everyone!

Hugs

Sandy,

That's the hardest part of the deployments is not being able to talk to her. I knew that they would eventually grown up and move out. She was at Camp Pendleton in CA, that was her duty station. That was just like a regular job and that's where she lives. While she was there it wasn't so bad because we could talk just about any time we wanted to. I could just pick up the phone and call her. With the deployment I can't ever call her, I have to wait for her to call me. I sent her a package every Monday and include letters and I send her emails, but I don't ever get any replies. The only time that I actually get news from her is when she gets a chance to call me. The are deployed for 7 months and of that 7 months, they work 7 days a week, every day of the deployment from 8am to 8pm, no days off. They even had to work on the Marine Corp birthday (Nov 10th), Thanksgiving and Christmas. She is exhausted toward the end of the deployment and by the time she gets home. This is her second deployment. After she gets back which should be some time around April, they don't give exact dates for security reasons, then my son will go on a deployment in July so I get to do the worrying all over again. He is currenting stationed in NC but he is actually coming home next week because he is changing duty stations and will be moving out to California. He will be home for about 2 1/2 weeks and then he goes to Cali. He is looking forward to the moved. He has lived in NC since he has been in the Marine Corp and he is ready to get out of NC and ready for a Change. I'm just looking forward to having one of my kids home for a little while.

Well I'm done rambling. Gotta go for now.

Hi all.....

Sorry...got busy yesterday and forgot to check in....
I got myself a new printer last week and had to find a place
for it...it's just a HP all in one (forgot I really wanted a
12x12 like Sandy's)oh well....

My son just called me and told me he just decided he'd made a very
expensive mistake....he is going back to school...classes start tomorrow...and he doesn't want to go...I told him not to register.

Sandy...how was your Turkey soup....my new tenant made chicken
soup and sent some down to me...it was good...but...I like
mine better...lol..

Patty...thanks for sharing your recipe..I am going to give it a try
this week...it sounds really good...

I can not imagine having my son gone for so long....I know it is
hard...I had 2 nephews who were in the Marines...one was
an MP and was stationed in Japan....the other did 3 deployments...he
was in the infantry..2 times to Iraq and his first deployment
was Guantanamo Bay....both boys are out of the Marines now, but the
oldest joined the Air force reserve out of Niagara Falls where
he is a crew chief on the C-130s....

My niece is currently in the Air Force...she just spent the last
2 years in Germany...she's a meteorologist...and she loves
it...she has traveled all over Europe...

Gotta go...Have a great evening....

Hello Ladies:

I hope everyone has a great week. Nothing much new going on here. David had 3 impacted wisdom teeth removed on Friday - so it's been a weekend of drugs, rinses, etc. He is feeling much better, but still has pain.

Our water heater decided to leak on the basement floor yesterday. So we had to replace that. Oh what fun it was to bring that thing up the basement steps. I may recover sometime next week. I would have called Jason to help Mark, but he is sick. He went to the doctor today he has Strep...

So as you can see - true to form - when it rains it pours...

Hugs,

Hello everyone. I have been out of touch for a while. My son has been in town so I haven't been one the computer. I have been spending time with him. When my son or daughter come to town I like to spend as much time as possible with them because I never know when they will be back so I cherish what I get. He had a couple weeks leave and then they gave him 12 days for relocating so he was home for three weeks. He relocated from North Carolina to Califoria. He was excited about the move and ready for a change. He has be bragging to me about the great weather out there, while we have been having really cold temperatures. I enjoyed every minute that he was here. Now I have found out in less than two months my daughter will be back from her deployment from Afghanistan. When she gets back and, back to her duty station in California she will be taking leave before she heads off to Italy. She will also get three weeks. We are actually going to NC to welcome her and the rest of the troops back from the deployment. The will be arriving in NC before they are sent back to their dury station in California. My daughter will get back from her deployment in April and then go to Italy for two years in August. My son will leave for Afghanistan in July for his deployment. I'm just getting one back from there and another one is being send. Once they are bother gone for such a distance in August that is when I will probably fall apart. I was all ready for both of them to be getting out here shortly and they both re-enlisted. Now I just have to endure this even longer. I'm very proud of them, but ready for my babies to come home.

Well on another note it's gotten very cold here in AR. We have actually had mild temperatures up until now. Today we had some snow, sleet and rain. It's supposed to go below freezing tonight. I guess we will see what the roads are going to be like tomorrow. By next weekend it's supposed to be beautiful, sunny and upper 50's. I'm just ready for spring and summer to get here. I don't like the cold at all.

Well gotta go for now.

I hope everyone is having a good week. I've been fighting a stomach virus of sorts. Don't know if I ate something that didn't agree with me, or if I was exposed to a virus at the center where Lois lives...but this is the second day of it, so hopefully it is on the way out of my system...

We have 57 degrees, but a strong wind, and partly cloudy. Hopefully the ground will dry up some.

We got a new car a week or so ago. We've been talking about it for awhile. It seemed that the Jeep would have one problem after another, and finally pushed Mark over the edge and he decided it was time for a new/different vehicle. Well a week ago this past Saturday we were taking Jessica's vehicle out to the dealership for an oil change, a co-worker of Mark's brought his used vehicle out for us to test drive. It was like a brand new car, except it had almost 75,000 miles on it. That worried me a bit, it's hard to think about spending that much money on something that has no warranty at all. Well while we were at the dealership, Mark got to talking to one of the salesmen. We came home with Jessica's car, drove the Jeep back in so they could appraise it for a trade in value, ended up buying a brand new vehicle from the show room floor. I was in shock. It is the first off the show room vehicle I've ever owned, but I'm up to almost 300 miles on it now...

Well I hope everyone is well.

Hugs,

Sandy

Hello everyone. Hope all is going well. I have been missing for a while. Things are starting to pick up on my end. Since my son left from is trip home I have been trying to prepare for my daughter coming home. She will be coming home from Afghanistan. We were supposed to make a trip to North Carolina to meet her when the troops arrived back home, now those plans have changed. We aren't going and I'm really disappointed about that. I didn't want to let her know that because I didn't want her to feel bad, but I was really looking forward to seeing her. It's been to long since I've seen her last. They were supposed to get a weekend off when they came back and then the tiime that we were going to spend with her. Well she called me yesterday to tell me that they have changed their plans again. First of all they are bringing them home a few days later and as soon as they get them to NC they are shipping the California people back to California. Well she is one of the California people. That is her duty station right now. They just gathered them all in NC and deployed them from there and that's where they bring them all back to and then send them all back to the base that they are stationed at. That's means that she isn't even going to get a weekend. She will put in for leave when she gets to Cali and come home for a little while but it's just so hard knowing that she is going to be back on US soil and I can't see her. I have had this trip planned for almost a year, saved my vaction, knowing that she was going to deploy and I was going to see her when she got back now I can't. Then in August she will leave for two years to go to Italy and my son will deploy to Afghanistan. I have never had both of them out of the country at the same time. I may be in a crazy house by the time this is all done. It's not as easy to talk to them when they are on such a different time schedule. They both just re-enlisted for another four years so this isn't ending any time soon. The joys of being a Marine Mom.....NOT!!

On another note I will be taking vaction to the races. We were supposed to do that right after seeing our daughter in NC. We are still doing that. It's a good thing because I'm going to need it. Something to distract myself. I don't know if there are any Nascar fans out there, but we have season tickets to Texas Motor Speedway and thats where I will be going. We go there twice a year. We camp at the track. We normally go down on Wednesday and come back on Monday, but this time we are going down on Tuesday and coming back on Sunday. We have a blast. We have met so many people in all the years that we have be going down there. Nascar is like one big happy family. We meet some friends from Oklahoma City, OK down there and then we have some friends from here in town that go down with us. We all have camping spots together and just set up in a U shape and hang out all weekend, and oh we do go and see the races when it's time.

Well enough about all that. Our weather has been back and fourth. Today was sunny and beautiful in the upper 60'. Yesterday was raining, sleet, hail, freexing, got down into the low 30's. It's supposed to be nice again tomorrow, but them more rain on Sunday. By mid week we are supposed to have close to the 80's. I'm just ready for it to level off and be consitent. I don't like this back and fourth stuff, and I really hate the cold part of it.

Well gotta go for now. Hope to hear from everyone.

Patty

I keep forgetting about this group. It has been around quite awhile. I was under 45 when I first learned of this group, but now I would have fit right in for the last four or five years. I hope everyone is busy finding lots of fun things to scrap.
