question of the week: what die cutting machines do you have and how often do you use them?

i have a cricut and a cuttlebug and have never used either...

sorry, i haven't been around much lately - i'm still working alot and my best friend's getting married in december - she was over here today looking for beads. we were working on her bouquet. she's making everything by hand.

happy organizing!

Hello Peas! I hope y'all are doing well. So we're talking dies this week; cool. I have Sizzix dies, Quikutz, and a few Cuttlebug dies. They are all stored in the Helmer 6 drawer unit from Ikea. My Sizzix dies take up the first 3 drawers--I have reds, greens and yellows and quite a few Sizzlits. My Sizzlits are stored by collection in little plastic storage boxes I found (again) at Ikea.
I found an intersting way to store my Quikutz dies. I use plastic badge holders. I cut a sample with each die and glued it to a piece of cardstock. Then I put the die behind the cardstock. All of these are hanging on a binder ring. I really like this form of organization for these dies.

Well, I guess that is all for now. I hope y'all have a great week!

Ok. Due to early onset Alzheimers or summer fever or whatever, I did this week during die cuts...as in don't you need a die to make die cuts?

I guess that is my problem for only making them as I need them! LOL!

QOTW: Cricut expressions, and a cuttlebug. Used my cuttlebug yesterday, and Cricut earlier in the week.

Would love to know if anyone knows how to do the nestibities embossing with a cricut... Happy Monday!

I have a Cuttlebug and I use it quite often, either for cutting or embossing. I just featured my new Spellbinders storage on my blog this morning. I am quite proud of it, since I repurposed something.

QOTW: I only have my beloved Silhouette, which I use constantly! Back in the day, I had a Sizzix and lots of alphabet dies. Sold them and got a Cricut and lots of cartridges. Sold all of that for my Silhouette. Haven't regretted it for an instant.

Still need to organize my pens...didn't get around to it last week and then spent the weekend in Chicago. Hopefully I'll get to it tonight. I also really need to go back and work on organizing my pictures again. I've ordered so many in the last couple of months and they're sitting in the envelopes all over my desk. Not a pretty sight!

Here is a possibly OT question for you gals.
I got my first Nestabilities a few months ago. I can die cut with them in my cuttlebug, but have not figured out how to emboss and cut out. Can any of you guys clue me in?

Humbly yours...

I have a Cricut Expression and 23 cartridges... use them rarely {sigh}. Funny how I wanted and wanted it, my husband bought it for me for Valentine's Day {I still have the baby one packed away}, and I've used it maybe 2 or 3 times since. I store the font cartridges in an ArtBin case designed for them, and the rest {non-fonts} in a basket nearby. So they are organized in that sense...

I wonder if I don't use them 'cause I don't know what 'die' is on each cartridge??? Maybe I need to keep the pictures of the contents of the die from the back of the box out in the open where I would see them/maybe would be inspired to use them??? Hmm...

I did have a Sizzix and stored the dies in the towers, but gave it all away to the activities director at a local nursing home.

Sorry Amanda, I have no idea. I don't have Nestabilities.

So my dies are a bit of a mess ... I have mainly Cuttlebug, Quickutz and Cricut. The Quickutz and Cricut cartridges are all in a drawer or maybe 2 in my plastic drawer thingy.

I have a shoebox for my Cuttlebug embossing folders. But I have no idea where my dies are. Maybe I should sell them if/when I find them ... obviously, they're not getting much use in my room

Amanda - Embossing with Nesties
Easiest way to explain it is watch the above video, LOL!

I have a big shot with various brands of dies (quickcutz, sizzix, nesties) and I have a neglected CraftRobo but I found out that the Silhouette software will work with it so I'll dust it off and give it a try when the kids are all back in school (TWO days!!!!!!!!!).

Thanks Mel! I will have to give it a try! Oh, and be safe with that hurricane coming to town!

Do I have the last children standing? Or are there others still waiting on school to start.

Hahahaha, Amanda...last children standing! My baby started COLLEGE on Monday! First class of her college career, and the girl got to dissect a sheep's brain! She loved it...she'll make a great doctor!

Finally got my pens organized (see my blog for a picture), although I still need to make an inventory sheet for them, at least for my Copics. I'm constantly drawing on scratch paper to find the right color...

Beth- Sheep brain! Too cool! Sounds like an awesome first day!

here is the official color chart (with the 12 new 2011 colors)
here is the blank one that you can fill in at home (just run the type of cardstock that you would typically color on (cut down to 8.5 x 11) through your printer

Yeah, we are late in NJ... which the kids like. But then complain because they don't get out until late June.

So I took all the backs of the cricut cartridge boxes, punched a hole in the top corner, and hung them on two rings: one is fonts, the other is non-fonts. They are hanging on my peg board in front of my desk... maybe that'll remind me to use them!

Then I took the non-font cartridge, book, layover thingie and put the three together into a small ziploc baggie. So now all my non-fonts are bagged up and in a basket. The fonts cartridges are still in that ArtBin container {though I don't like it, but I spent $20 on it so I'm using it}.

Hope to scrap some this w/e. Have friends over tonight, then the hurricane on Sunday so I should be able to get some layouts done.

Have a good weekend

We're late in Ontario as well DS starts the Tuesday after Labour Day and *I* am counting down the days to finally getting back to our routine ... fighting DS and DH about the amount of video games/computer time/movies on got real old by the end of July I swear, sometimes DH turns into a 6 year old and somehow I feel like the only parent

Thanks, Amanda! I am kinda loving the official chart...I like how they've arranged them and it will be a good reference to decide what colors I need next! They both print on 11X17, though. Hmmm...I guess I'll have to print them here at work! LOL!

Hope any of you in the path of the hurricane stay safe this weekend! Wishing you all the best!

Hello everyone, thought I better respond today before the hurricane comes through and wipes out our electricity. I'm in Maryland on the coast of the Chesapeake Bay. Geez, an earthquake and now a hurricane all in one week!

QOTW-I only have the Quickutz system and a few alphabets. I had a Cricut but sold it just before the big announcement by PC (about not allowing the use of the software systems with their machines). The Cricut was just "too much" for me and so far my Quickutz is just fine. I may in the future get a Silhouette, we'll see. How often do I use it? Every 3 pages or so.

For storage I use the 2x2 slide sheets from photo stores in a zip around binder. These work perfectly. In front of each new alphabet I cut up the packaging that has the entire alphabet illustrated on it. If the packaging didn't include one or I bought it second hand, I print out the alphabet from my computer-these I then put in an 81/2 x 11 page protector from Staples. Works great so far!

Take care and I'll see you all next week. Hope all of us get through this hurricane with no damages. My scraproom is in our finished basement and occasionally we've had flooding. Not a lot, enough to soak the carpet and make a big mess. Last night I put everything up on tables ect. in case of flooding.

Electricity is still on here in Maryland. The storm is supposed to hit us tonight. Yesterday I gathered some scrap items together to organize once the power shuts off. I've got some more fibers to wind onto wooden clothes pins, some uncut sheets of unmounted stamps to cut out and glue, and will start on my memorabilia organizing. Some of it is in shoe boxes, some in my file cabinet and some in plastic accordion folders.

Last week I bought 4 scrapbook 3 ring binders from Exposures-they were on sale for $9.99 (that's cheaper than the ones at Office Depot). I ordered 81/2 x 11 print preservers (page protectors) that are archival from Print File. I'm planning to use the binders and these protectors for my memorabilia. Figured I might as well get started this week when the electricity goes off (won't be using the computer or watching TV) and trying to scrap in the dark will be too difficult. Here's to organizing!
