O.K. Ladies,
I need to get serious about my 12 by 12 scrapbooks again too, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is and I'm hosting a new kind of page swap. I would like to put together a group of people who are interested in a monthly swap in which we chat on the thread at least once a week, we post pictures of the pages we craft monthly, and we swap out four times a year (i.e. every three months). We will create pages based on sketches as well as themes. There will be RAKS and games with prizes (I will provide). We will get to know one another and challenge each other to create seriously fabulous pages. Here are the rules:
Mail to:
Dorothea Reiter
46 Lower Rocky Pt Rd
Miller Place, NY 11764
This is a 3+1 swap, 3 to swap out, plus one for me. You will not get your own pages back so make one more for yourself if you want it.
All pages must be based on good quality cardstock.
All pages must incorporate a minimum of 3 coordinating patterned papers.
All pages must contain at least 3 elements from this category: ribbon, lace, eyelets, brads, buttons, woolies, chipboard pieces, acrylic pieces, jellies, Thickers, beads, wire, crystals, rhinestones, jewels, clock faces, gears, tokens, tiles, pins, or other 3D embellishments.
All pages must contain at least three techniques from the following list: inking, stamping, sewing, tearing, glittering, painting, flocking, sanding, embossing, paper piecing, or Copic coloring.
Your pages do not have to be identical to one another but should be similar.
Your pages should be inspired by the sketch, not be prisoners of it; so feel free to move things around and add or subtract as you see fit.
You may use any materials, but remember, we are new friends who hope to be good and old friends, so embrace a spirit of generosity and create treasures that will make the receiver feel lucky to receive them. Give until it hurts!
You must peamail me with your full name, address, and phone number. I will not add you until you have done so. I will swap the pages randomly and timely; lateness will not be tolerated. We will begin with the 1st sketch on January 1, 2012 and you will be required to post a photo in the TwoPeas Gallery of all four of your pages (in a group) by January 31, 2012. Please provide a link on the thread. There will be a new sketch each month and I would love to hear from you if you have a favorite sketch you would like to see us use. My sincere hope is that we will end up feeling like this is as close to a social group as we can get online and that we will share ideas as we go along.

How 'bout we adopt a glitzy, celebratory feel for January?
Come on girls, who's going to be first?

I just want to make sure I understand the rules and I have a couple of questions:
There is a new sketch every month and we make 4 layouts (5 if we want one of our own) by the end of the month and post pictures of the completed layouts.
We only send in the completed layouts every every 3 months so if we have one spot we will send you 12 layouts every 3 months which you will then sort and we will get back 9 layouts none of which are our own.
If I understand correctly there are NO groups, you are just randomly swapping out, so even if there are 12 people we only ever have to make the 4 layouts per month as long as we sign up for just one spot.
Is there any kind of restriction in regards to how recent the paper line is that is being used?
Since the mailings are only 3 times a year does a person have to sign up for the whole year or can they sign up for one of the 4 month segments?
Those are the points I wanted to make sure I understood correctly and now a quick question about the 3+1 part of the swap. I don't think I have ever seen this done on here before except with a 6x6 recipe Betty Swap, which everyone was more than happy to do. Is this commonly done with 12x12 layouts? Is it something that they do on other swap boards? Just curious about where that came from.
Thanks for your help,
Joni | |

Hi Joni,
You've got the hang of it. We will swap out randomly every three months (to save on shipping) so you will make 4 pages per spot and must commit to three months of pages at a time. There are no restrictions about the materials being used. My hope is that even if a person uses something that you have used or seen before, it will be reinvented by that person's imagination, so it shouldn't matter. And I want to encourage people to use the things they have in their stashes as well as new materials. Let's mix it up. I want to get away from sticking to a specific line and from store-bought embellies; not that they are prohibited mind you. But I would love to see people making most of their embellies as opposed to purchasing them.
The 3 plus 1 is a standard arrangement on other sites and the extra page for me is in place of a hostess gift. I love to make pages and hope that if we can get a group going, others in the group will want to take over the hostessing responsibilities, maybe on a rotating basis. To start things off, I want to be able to focus on organizing things and offering RAKs and prizes. I really want this to be fun and chatty. Of course, I reserve the right to RAK pages and handmade embellies of my own LOL. Believe me, it's not a page grab. I intend to more than make up for any pages you may send me with fun treats.
So what do you think? Are you game?

If I can sign up for the first segment I am in. I think it would be a 4 month segment since you want to mail only 3 times a year but if it is a 3 month segment still sign me up I think it will be cool to have something to look forward to making during the cold winter months coming our way. I will send you my info,

This sounds interesting....Will we have a theme each month?
I saw you wanted us to post a photo of all the pages for that month. I know this is a stupid question, but if that are all identical can it be 1 photo? I am good at making them all the same...lol!!!
So we will send in the LO's every three months....so we will send in 12 LO's and get back 9 misc LO's from others in the group?
I maybe interested in this. I love 12 x 12 layouts.

Oops, I went to edit my post from last night and then realized it was correct. We will be swapping three months worth of pages four times a year; basically it will wind up being once a season.
mommamoonrn,
I would like everybody to post their pile of pages for evidence that they are in fact keeping up with the swap. I don't intend to be the swap police but I also feel a responsibility as a hostess to make sure that nobody gets stiffed. In fact, nobody will get stiffed because if the flakers ruin this swap, I will make good on the pages. Maybe you could make one page the focus and place the others in the background? As we get to know one another, it shouldn't matter as much. You will send in 12 pages and get back 9. I hope I can convince you to join. I love your work!
Kate,
Will love to have you next time around!
Joni,
There will be a RAK coming your way for being the first to join

This should be fun!

OK! I've updated the list and now we are three. I hope we will have some others join us, but even if we don't, we can play with three so this swap is officially on.
Mommamoonrn, I know! I just got stiffed on a page swap. Nobody else sent their pages and I'm getting all of my own back. It's not the first time this has happened to me either. I promise that this will not happen in this swap. If I have to make the pages myself, I will. That's why I will not be disappointed if we are a small group. I would rather work with a small group of people who are reliable and want to do the right thing by each other. If our group winds up being large and full of great swappers, fabulous. If not, I will be perfectly happy to play with a few crafters who are dedicated. I'm off to look for February's sketch!
Ukfan, I agree about the stash thing. I've been waiting for a swap where I can use my stash on TwoPeas but one hasn't come along. I rarely scrap within one line and I bought the things in my stash because I loved them in the first place. I still love them and want to use them. Let's be free to do our things without the restrictions of certain lines. Dig out an old piece of Basic Grey and create stunning borders for your pages. Scare up those old Prima flowers and Glimmer Mist them for a newer slant on an older design. What could be more fun?

Michele,
Glad to have you. I will email you in just a minute. I have had a few problems with getting through to people via pea mail too. I will post my email addy too in the OP.
Girls,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We were howling as my BIL told a story about how when he was in the Navy, he met a bunch of folks from down under. He decided to send his new friends Thanksgiving cards; you know it's all about the mail when you are oversees in the service. It didn't occur to him that his new buddies probably were not celebrating Thanksgiving in Australia! I am planning to spend some time in my craft room today.

Great to have you girls. We are up to six plus me now. That will make for some more variety in the swap which is good. I think we will have others join us as well which is why I wanted to post this swap a few weeks before the "start date." I have often opened threads multiple times debating about whether to join or not and I bet there are several in that boat right now.
And I'm so glad to hear that others are tired of the flakers. I already feel like we have a strong, committed group and that this is going to be a blast.
I'm off to shop a bit as TwoPeas is offering a discount this weekend. Can I tempt anybody else?

Thanks for adding me. It sounds like fun. The winter months can be long and uneventful. This will fill up my time. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning new things about scrapbooking from yous. Flaking is totally unacceptable because you sign up for the swap. Just cannot understand it. I have only been in a few swaps so I don't have to much experience. I may have questions along the way. Ready to have some fun!!!!!

A few more questions....
1. I saw the layout is for a glitzy celebratory time....can you elaborate on this....could glitzy be a snow idea...just looking for an idea or what you are expecting. I over think everything....
2. Since more and more are joining can we do more than 4 pages for the month if we choice to? Say I wanted to do 7 and get back 6 is this possible? Just asking not saying I will....
I saw the first sketch and it is great!!! I love sketches!
I have been reading everyone's posts and I am excited that people in writing at least are serious about not flaking....I quit hosting for a while on over on other boards because I just got tired on it. I would make all my stuff and would end up for 3 or 4 extras each time due to peole not following through.
Also i would like to learn everyone's first name....lol!!!

I figured that with all of the holiday parties going on, we could make pages with a celebratory tone. I don't want to specify color schemes but let's make these pages bright and with some sparkle. Don't let this make you crazy. Variety is the spice of life. If your imagination takes you someplace else, go with it!
I don't see any problem with extra pages but let's go outside of the sketches for those, kind of like bonus pages. What do you think?

So on the extra pages(should I choose to do) I need some guidelines. I just want alot of pages back.....I really need help with my albums!!! LOL!!!
You stated you wanted to go outside the sketch for that....I have a couple of questions then....I told you I always over think things..lol!
1. Do I choose a sketch I like and just do some that away? Or do I change up the current sketch just a little?
2. Do I still use the same theme?
3. Would I get to swap out with everyone for example, I send in 6 for January get back 5?
Thanks Becky | |

JCI - had a very tiring holiday - but a good holiday with my sister and her kids visiting. They are all very close in age and that makes for fun and loud times! My parents who hosted are worn out.
Back to work tomorrow - not really looking forward to it - but hope to ENJOY the season this year.

I'm not sure how to handle the extra pages. Would it be O.K. to simply send a few extra random pages and swap them into the mix? That's what I'm thinking. We can't get too carried away with only a handful of people swapping but would you guys mind getting one page outside of the original sketch? What do you guys think? I'm open to anything as long as we can make it equitable and everybody agrees to it.

So, the sketch we are using for our January layouts is the one you already linked us to named Sketch 11. Did I get that right? I just want to make sure that you didn't just post that as an example but rather that Sketch 11 is the January layout sketch.
Reference the extra layout question: won't she just get one of each of ours and we will all get one of hers but the other 2 layouts we will be getting back will be randomly selected from the Ladies participating? I think we would all still get layouts from the same sketch design, I want to have the same sketch if you don't mind.... I think it will be cool to see how different people interpret the sketch.
Thanks in advance for your answers,

i think since the group is small it would be doable to do it all in one group since we are using our stash if it little different from each other.
I'm up to do all five since i have no problem doing them like that. I was also thinking if we can do one month of one page sketch then next month two page sketch so that way it will vary each month. I'm up for anything...

I think we should stick to the original plan. Creating five would be no problem but anymore might be a challenge or to many. Just my opinion. We are a small group so it should be fun! I like the idea of keeping to the sketch to see how others are inspired by it. A theme each month is a good idea too.

I am getting so excited about this swap!!!
(BYW I didn't expect everyone else to create more LO's, I just wanted one of everyone's, so I was willing to do more....but to keep from confusion...I will just go with the regular plan....it is all good!!}
I have been thinking about the word "Celebration" and what it means to me. I am not a party animal type so I think my page on Celebration will be directed towards appreciation, "glitzy" appreciation.... So often we forget to "Celebrate" simple, beautiful blessings.
I have got ideas and now I need to shop!
Anyone working on a December Daily this year.....I really want to! All my daughters will be here this year. Next year 2 of them will be out of the country, I want an album of happines this year!!
Have a great day everyone!

Joy New York! So glad to have you come out and join us. Wait 'til the rest of you see her work. She totally rocks!!!
So I think we are back to creating 3 + 1 pages for each month.
Yes, Sketch 11 is the sketch for January. Please scroll down when you get to the link to access it.
I love the idea that we will all interpret the sketches differently. I did something similar to this a few years ago with a store-based design team I was on. We would pick a sketch, grab our supplies, and go to town. Most of the time there was such variety in the pages, you couldn't even tell that we had started with the same sketch. In fact, when we rotated the pages out of the store monthly, we posted them in groups around the sketch in the crop room so that people could see how inspiring it is to work with sketches.

I've never seen that show, but I just set my Tivo to record it. Will I be lost if I start watching now? I just finished the Hunger Games trilogy yesterday. I get so depressed when I finish a good book. I almost have to mourn it being over. Anyone have any good book recommendations?

Flypea1,
Welcome, welcome, welcome. Newbies are fine as long as you are committed. I am seriously hoping that this will be a long-term group and how nice would it be for you to get in on this on the groundfloor as one of your first TwoPeas experiences? You understand that you are committing to three months worth of 4 pages each (total of 12)? You must learn to post pictures of your pages for us to see as you go along. If you have trouble, I can help with that (it's easy). You should check in as often as possible once we get underway in January because I plan to post games and RAK opportunities and you will need to be on the spot to play.
Lisa,
Last night's episode of American Horror Story was kind of lame. The episodes are all available on demand for free if you want to catch up. They are on Netflix too. I want to see something more happening with the characters we know. Introducing that dentist was weird. I mean how many murders are going to happen in this house before somebody notices? And what is with the guy with the burned face? He seems to pop up randomly.

I so think I would like American Horror Story - just haven't had time to add that one to the schedule - even if I DVR it I wouldn't watch
I am not exactly doing a December Daily - I heard about Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas just this week and signed up for that this year. Would like to try and keep track. I let myself get so busy that I spend so little time documenting. Thought the prompts might keep me on track.

Here is a link:
Shimelle website
And this is the link for this year's Journal Your Christmas:
Journal Your Christmas
I first heard about it last week on the NSBR board
Similar to those doing the December Daily with Ali - but it gives you email prompts daily with journaling suggestions and picture ideas. It is helping me focus during a time when I feel so overwhelmed - you know - Christmas.

I was looking at the Website's you posted...I wonder if you join late if they send you the ones you missed...anyone know....
I am stuggling with the first of the month ideas as nothing really special has happened. Mine special things start this week-end. We get to see our daughter and her hubby and we are going to a Christmas musical on Sunday! Then off to pick our daughter up from college an away to Disney World for a week.....YEAH!!
I have been taking pics of general items like our Christmas Tree, the presents, out favorite resturant, our food, my candles burning, hot chocolate...
My grand daughters are coming over tomorrow night and I am working , but my hubby is going to take pics of them by the tree for me.
Hope everyone is having an easier time coming up with pics for their book!

Becky-I'm doing DD too this year. it was rough start for me in getting started. lol but I have few ideas jot down to fill in those empty blank. One is pintrest of all holiday foods that is popping up. oh, mine so many goodies.. I usually add one or two new cookie recipes to my current fav i make with my mom. This year I decide to create a 6 x 6 album (if i can find one) to put all my christmas cookie recipes together.

Becky - You don't get the previous emails sent directly to you - but you have access to the message boards / website she has set up so you are able to access them yourself.
It has really helped my find different things each day to focus on and has helped my keep track.
You also participate for free each year after. Once you sign up - you never have to pay and sign up again. You are always included. I think that is an awesome deal
