I am joining in!! I kept wavering back and forth because I am just getting back into scrapbooking so I was afraid I would be overwhelmed. But I drooled over watching people make theirs for 2011 and want to do it this year! I am going to be ordering the Clementine kit today! I can't wait until it gets here! I am going to be relying on my iPhone most of the time for the pics.

I'm doing it for the first time too and completed my title pagejust before 2011 ended.

As a single person, who has to travel for work quite often, I hope to use it to have a picture of myself in 2012 to look back at.

Am excited to be motivated to keep up for the year. I'm using Clementine and Design A page protectors, as well as my stash, to keep it simple for me

Okay, I'm seriously excited about this! Which is weird because about a month ago I had no intention of trying this again. But I read this post and I'm inspired again. Last year I felt kind of trapped by the need to use the journaling cards etc that came in the kit. This year I'm doing my own thing and I think it's going to work for me so much better. I worked on my title page tonight and LOVE IT! Thanks peas for all the inspiration. Keep it coming please.

Hello, so glad to see so many people doing Project Life.

This is my fourth year partaking on documenting life in this way.

This year I am utilizing the Cobalt edition. I contemplated going digital but like to incorporate memorabilia in my project so it's just not for me.

To see my approach for this year and years past you can visit my blog:

I'm playing along although I'm using my own stash as we don't have it available here in the uk till February at the earliest. I've found some fabulous printables (mostly free) online and plan on using up some old paper pads, scraps and various journalling bits from my stash. I wrote down some cute little sayings my son has at the moment last night and can't wait to put this weeks spread together!

I'm loving all the inspiration I'm getting on here. Your title pages are awesome!! I'm hoping to finish mine up tomorrow. I've started collecting little items (movie tickets etc.) and taking pictures for my 1st week, which I'll do on Sundays!
Everyone in my house watches football on Sundays (except me) so I'll have plenty of time by myself.

Hello I'm Micki, married mother of a 13 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. Had it all planned out that I was doing PL on Shutterfly. First time doing digital and PL, but was feeling pretty confident about both. I even have a page done. Reading through everyone's post and checking out the blogs has changed my mind. I know I will be hating not adding in all my favorite embellishments. I have piles of it so I might as well use it. I was trying to do a picture a day, but if that is overwhelming I'm going to shoot for highlights of the week or month. Heading over to Amazon now....haven't decided which kit yet.

Hi! Are you near that great store in Torrance? I forget what it's called. I think there are some nice stores your way. We only have 1 LSS I go to called Treasured Memories in Oak Park. I love it, but can't always find what I want, so I do lots of online shopping as well. She has to provide lots of themed stuff..she told me that it's one of the biggest parts of her business! I was shocked when she told me. I haven't used themed stuff in years....except Christmas and Valentines.

Anyone know where to get the Design A style sheets? I'm a bit surprised to see they are unavailable at Amazon - you'd think she would have geared up for the start of the year to ensure there was enough of the main page protectors available... how to begin without it? I bought B and F.. but now think that I should have just waited for A to get in stock.. thoughts?

Thx!

I finally uploaded my first two PL spreads in the gallery!! (please excuse the crappy photos; I was in a hurry to photograph them) I still need to take a couple photos before I can finish my title page, but here's my first two spreads:

PL spread 1

PL spread 2

I started my documenting in mid-December, because I wanted to show a photo of actually receiving my PL package from Amazon!

If I can refine my "system" a bit more and get into a routine with taking photos and keeping up with note-taking, I think I'm really going to love doing this!

Well, I'm behind already. My knee has been killing me so I've come home each night and taken some strong painkillers for it. Plus, my husband just found out today that he's got pneumonia! Arg!! I have been taking notes though so I know which pics I need and what I'm journaling about. I just can't believe it's week 1 and I'm already unable to keep up. I'm telling myself it's ok and I'll catch up this weekend. Right? I can do this, can't I?

Sigh.

This is my third year of Project Life. My life is as mundane as any, but it is really rewarding to have a record of everyday life. I would love to have had a similar record for my years at university, for example, or as a newly-wed. I am married, 50, no children but lots of family & friend commitments/activity, a demanding career and a lot going on. I don't spend hours on PL, but I really want it more as a historical record than an artistic activity.

The way I do it:
Paper not digital, although I do do digital scrapbooking. I like the idea of a record of handwriting.
I put all the cards in when I get the kit. when I do the layouts I sometimes jazz them up or use other supplies, depending on whether I have time.
I have done a photo a day ... mostly. I don't beat myself up if I forget, don't have time or can't be bothered. I take a "non-event" photo around the same sort of time for that day, or use something else from that day, like a card from a restaurant, a receipt, something ripped from a magazine, etc.
I start on January 1, whatever day of the week that is.
I only print photos about once every three weeks. I actually find that putting them in and journaling is quite relaxing. If we don't go out on Friday nights, I tend to do it then (with a glass of wine of course!)
I have an Erin Condren planner, and the month to a page planner at the beginning of each month is perfect for recording what photo you took. I used to keep a record on my iPad, but I'm going through a retro handwriting phase!
In the beginning I did put the day of the week on the photo with photoshop, but then real life intruded.

My favourite photos/layouts tend to be the ordinary ones. I do use photos of weddings/parties/holidays of course, but I have really enjoyed some of the mundane ones, like:
My "views" - out our kitchen window, out my office window, through the car window on a wet day
Before & after clean up projects
Our wedding rings on your anniversary
A current favourite outfit
What's in the supermarket trolley this week
"Big" text messages - like a friend texting everyone that her baby has arrived
Newspaper headlines
Firsts - the first swim of the season, first open fire, first spring flowers, first Christmas card etc
Our gadgets: iPhones, iPads, kindles etc all accumulated - think history!
The house I grew up in years later
An amazon parcel on the doormat when I got home
One day's mail
Books on the bedside table
A google earth shot of our house
Inside the pantry, my closet
A month of our calendar
A recipe that turned out perfectly for once
A recipe that was a spectacular failure

It doesn't matter what you take - think about people reminiscing about years ago: they always remember the trivia, like favourite foods, or win item of clothing, or Grandma's cookie jar.

I do have some "constant" photos that I take each year - eg Christmas & birthday gifts I received, our house on the anniversary of the day we moved in, and I have a couple of friends I have a regular lunch date with who are fascinated by it, so they are always photo of the day.

Good luck to everyone - it really doesn't take much time. Just don't think every photo has to be earth-shattering!

I tackled Project Life for the first time in 2009. I got to mid April and gave up.

Tried it again in 2010. Did much better. Got pics printed and in the album up till September, journaling done up to August, photos taken till the end of the year, but are still in my computer.
In 2011, I was adamant about not doing PL anymore. I didn't and felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders. Did not miss NOT doing it. While I still don't regret not doing PL last year, I must admit that I do enjoy looking at the completed pages I did in 2010.

This year, I decided to look around at how other people approached PL. My approach in 2010 was to not worry about having a picture a day. I did mine very simple - supplies pretty much out of the PL box. I think that's where I went wrong. I didn't feel like I was scrapbooking, per se. I also waited till the end of the month to print my photos and get caught up. After a while, that got overwhelming.

I'm back on board this year. I'm using the kit I bought for 2010 and my mountain of stash. I've done my cover page and spent time doing more than just inserting the cards and calling it good. I am incorporating a lot of ideas from other people as far as my approach. I'm keeping my approach of not worrying about having a photo each day - it's going to be a weekly kind of approach.

I have to really keep on top of printing my pics every week. That's going to be my downfall. I don't have a good printer so I have to send it out to print.

I've gotten such awesome ideas from everyone. I'm really hoping I go the distance this time. I did a lot more traditional scrapbooking last year when I didn't do PL. I'm hoping I can still find time to do that. I don't really want to replace that with PL altogether as BH has done.

Anyway, thanks for the inspiration and good luck to all! I think I might make the commitment to post my weekly pages and/or do a video for my You Tube channel. That ought to keep me accountable. I do better when I have to be accountable to others. lol.

I don't see where you are already behind. You are journaling so you know what pics you need. It seems you might be able to take the photo shots rather quickly. If you are printing out 1x a week-you're not behind. You're on task.

Silly question... has anyone done a title page with no pictures?
I don't have pictures of us all together, because, well, I guess we aren't really ever all together! lol It always seems that we don't have the kids ever together, one is always with the "other" parent, KWIM? I really wanted a FAMILY photo for my front page, but it doesn't look like it will ever work out that way.

Yes! The original PL kits that Becky has have cards that go in the front to fill up all of the spaces.

I liked the idea of having a family photo but could you just do individual photos of the people in your family? Maybe put them in the smaller pockets?

I already bought the binder and page protectors last year. I don't intend to do a daily or weekly theme though. I'm just doing it instead of the traditional 12x12. I figure it'll take me less time. I have a 16month old and work full time, and it's been so time consuming putting together his first year album I don't think I can sustain at that pace.

I plan to use the kit to drop 4x6 photos in and have space for caption or even embellishments if I feel like it. Do I count as a Project life pea?

You should feel like a project life pea, simply because you are documenting life.

I just shared about the way I'm organising for Project Life documentation as well as a small giveaway to do with PL.

Thanks FLCindy! Yesterday I had good health news following a test I was worried about, so I took a photo of the specialist report! I was so relieved I wanted to remember how good it felt.

Title page with no pictures is easy - 2010 I used a sheet of the cardstock that came with the kit, cut it to fit the pockets, and 2010 in thickers. 2011, I did the same with newspaper front pages for Jan 1, and Jan 31 for the last page.

This year I thought I would use a photo, stealing an idea from Kelly Purkey - I was going to use a photo of me, or me & my husband, enlarge it to fit the top three rows of pockets & cut it to fit them, then use plain cardstock and whatever else works to do a title in the bottom pockets. Becky Higgins' blog entry - Project Life: Getting Started in 2012 - has the photo, and lots of other great ideas.

Wow ... MaryAnn, I just saw your title page
I hope you're okay with blatant theft of ideas! It's just beautiful.

Thanks for the ideas... now if my stuff would just get here I could get started! I'm too cheap to pay for priority shipping, so it's my own fault

You freaking enablers. I am officially on the bandwagon now.

I have never done PL before, but I did do Becky's first kit - the P365 fiasco in 2009. LOVED it, but it was massively time consuming to do the photo a day. When PL came out, I pretty much ignored it, knowing that I would do another P365 in 3-5 years, definitely not another one so soon. I needed a break.

Then I saw the video on Becky's blog the other day. How PL is what you make it - it's not necessarily P365. Then I got to thinking of all those daily (or every-other-daily) photos I take that are just waiting around to be scrapped. Most are 1-photo layouts that I just don't scrap anymore. I got to thinking about how I could use this...not a photo per day or per week, but just a good overview of our year in random photos in chronological order.

I didn't care much for Becky's kit, tho. I used the journaling cards with P365 and I am a writer....I went through those suckers in a hurry. So I opted to go with the WRMK page protectors instead so I could use 6x4 journaling cards. I have a few 3-up 6x12 and single insert 6x12 as well for some breaks. I like the versatility of going a few weeks with a photo a day if I feel like it, skipping a month entirely, then doing a full page spread of one event. It'll be fun.

I got hooked on the Simple Stories products a couple of years ago and am using them to do PL this year. I'm planning up finishing last year's photos and have made a lot of progress. I'm being totally flexible with this project and will aim to take pictures each week, however my ultimate goal is one layout a month instead of scrambling at the end of the year because I've procrastinated. This is realistic for me. In the past few years I've been very discouraged with what I've completed in my albums. This system excited me again and it's important for me to organize my photos and document our lives.

I am a SAHM to an 8 and 12 year old boys. I have chronic illness and my youngest son has Aspergers syndrome. Part of my discouragement with scrapbooking has been falling behind due to my energy/stress levels. I've decided to make this a priority and I'm looking forward to the new year and tying up loose ends from the last one!

How are you doing with PL so far this week? Have you taken photos, journaled and put them in your scrapbook? How is your experience? Are you losing, keeping or gaining momentum with PL?

Anyone seen Marcy Penner's PL project center? OH MY GOODNESS!

i saw it on Pinterest - at marcypenner.com

still haven't decided what I'm doing about protectors...kinda wondering why i can't just adhere it all to a 12 x 12 page...but guess the beauty is not doing all the hassle!

cropping all day tomorrow - will catch up on this thread then.

until then - happy project living!

Yes! Glad to know that where I'm at right now isn't behind. I'm printing my photos off at home. I'm horrible about getting things printed regularly so I knew that would be a bust before I even started. I bought a new printer (Epson Artisan 730) in hopes that I could then keep up.

I hope to be able to get this week finished after I figure out what picture to take today.

I've sent my first week photos to Walgreen's and should receive them in a few days. I've journaled the week's events and am ready to go when my photos arrive. I may even do a little pre-designing of my page.

I was really motivated after reading through this thread last night and worked on and completed two layouts, one a two-pager. I'm really excited to finish last years photos even in my simple format of a few pictures a month. Today I've got to find something to organize my Simple Stories kits because my old system in not working well. My husband and oldest son are on a hunting trip this weekend, and I should have a little free time tonight.
