I am working on getting my second week in the album right now. I've discovered Ali Edward digital brushes and I am in love! I am normally a girl who likes lots of dimension embellishments and that really isn't the look I want here - well, I would just like to be able to close this book easily at the end of the year. So I have decided to use the digital files and the P&C from my Silhouette to jaz up my weekly cards and journaling. This is a new area for me but I am really liking it so far.

Just wanted to share my title page! It's not as awesome as some of the other Peas' title pages, but I am happy with how it turned out.

Steph - I just wanted to say how awesome it is you're doing one for a "special year" like your first year of marriage. A couple of months back, I came across a box of random things that included our first budget together and some receipts of furniture and stuff we bought for the house. We had some good laughs about the good ol days (we've been married for 12 years) and how things have changed over the years ... it would have been so cool to have a whole album of this and not just a couple of random things and to rely on our memories for stuff.

Hi! I'm a first time project lifer from mild weathered California. Glad to see this thread. Hope it will
keep me on track. . I'm also taking the relax approach like one of the posters above...try for a picture a day but the ultimate goal is to have a two or four page layout each month. Hoping that participating here will keep me focused on this project.

Picked up my pictures from Costco. I had a large order as I am also working on our vacation in my 2011 PL album.
I went to Michael's today. They only had one package of the 6 slot 4"x6" page protectors. I grabbed the rest of them from another style which includes vertical and horizontal pics. Since I'm aiming for 30 pics for a month, this will work out for me.
I am enjoying PL. I'm thinking of new ways to use my Cricut to jazz up my pages.

Here's a girl who posting freebies every Friday for PL!

http://www.pluckymomo.com/2012/01/presenting-project-life-freebie-friday.html

I pinned a few more late last night. I'll try to dig up the websites and post.

I'm still on the stupid fence about protectors, but sure have the freebies loaded up.

Is anyone NOT doing the slip in protectors and just gluing them onto 12 x 12 pages?

I think I'm gonna get WRMK if i get any cuz they have more selection of sizes.....

but I know I don't have a book they will fit into...

Sabrina,
Great pages! I love your journaling. It's one thing I am going to focus on photographing so readers can read it along with the photos.

I thought about it and even created the designs to print on my Imagine. But, I love the neat, no worry about getting everything "even" page protectors.

You might like WRMK. Are you using 12x12 binder/scrapbook for your PL? If so, they will fit. I am also using them. I like the different styles from WRMK.

OMG! I was just working on Week 1 (just need to take yesterday's photo and I'm done!) and I had some supplies I'd ordered but not put away sitting on my scrap table. I realized that the Lime Twist Life of the Party line from MME matches perfectly with the PL Amber Edition! I grabbed the stickers and 4x6 overlays (which I can never figure out how to put in a layout so they look good) in my PL box. I'm so excited to have some simple, already matching, embellishments that I can now add to my PL album. Woohoo!

It's coming together. S L O W L Y.

I have my papers pulled - I am using Echo Park Little Boy, Country Drive and Happy Days mish mash.

I have my little map printed. I have a quote printed.

I need a family photo!

I am about to cut my TWENTY TWELVE.

I am liking how it's coming together. Albeit slowly. But that's how I am - making my decisions in the beginning is always a bit of a process for me.

Okay - off to pull Admiral Bazzill and cut, cut, cut! :tonguee:

Hello ladies. I'm doing my own spin on PL using simple stories. Life documented and year o logy. I Have a question. What other paper do you think would mix well with these two lines. They are beautiful together but I'm think of adding something else. Any ideas??? Thanks

I have a question:

How important is it to you that what you document happens on that day?

I ask because before I started this we did some little DIY things around the new house that I want to include in this year since they happened in Nov/Dec. Is is "ok" to include them here and there when there is nothing else going on that day? Or should I just do a layout about them separately?

Either way is ok. Even though it happened last year-you can add before and after pics.

If you HAVE to write something about it FOR THIS YEAR, maybe you can write about how much you enjoy the new changes in your house. Other Peas can jump in and post other ideas.

Some people feel they have to write about what's happening THAT DAY OR THAT MONTH OR THAT YEAR. You don't have to. It's your PL and you can do it anyway you want.

Taking a photo a day gives us guidelines, in case we want to photograph every day. I photograph when I am inspired. Ideas posted on the 365/PL2012 thread are wonderful if anyone gets "stuck" on their PL.

Let me know if this post helps you.

I am!! While I really like the look of "Design A" page protectors, I don't want not having any to be a deterrant to get going on this! So I'm planning on using a kraft coloured background (SU Crumb Cake/River Rock/Sahara Sand - not sure which yet) and just gluing the pictures on there.

The design is exactly the same - 4 horizontal 4x6 pictures/journaling and 4 vertical 4x3 pictures/journaling with minimal embelishments.

I figure until I can get my hands on the page protectors, this is the plan. Then I'll see whether I even want to bother with the page protectors.

I think it's whatever YOU think is OK to do.

Seeing as you're living with the result of the reno, it makes sense to me to document it now vs leaving it out.

But it's your family's story you're documenting - so if it feels right to have that story in your book now, do it

I'm really enjoying seeing everyone's different takes on this project!! here's my second week, done!! Project Life Spread 2: Christmas (I was too excited to wait, so I started before New Year's)

I have my notes written (scribbled) for last week, and the photos I took still on my camera- just have to print the photos (I use a Selphy, and print at home) and put it together- hopefully tonight. I KNOW I don't have a photo per day; I just have random ones from throughout the week. but I'm okay with that. I'd rather have a written memory about something that happened than obsessing over taking a photo for every single thing we do. (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it- lol!)

Just started PL for the first time this year. I'm doing it by month but am trying to take pics of some of the ordinary things we do daily. I worked on week one but wonder do you approach the left side as page 1 and fill that first and then fill the right side and view it as page 2 OR do you view both pages as one layout and spread it across? Hope that makes sense. I wasn't sure how I wanted to approach it. Would love some feedback.

Hello! I'm new to both 2peas and projectlife.

I'm 28. Live in east Texas. Married, mom to 3 kiddos: I set of 3 month old twin girls and an 11 year old.

I've been scrapbooking for years but recently decided to pick up PL being that my life had become far too overwhelming to keep up with the more traditional scrapbooking I've always loved doing.

I joined hoping to get some inspiration and to see what other PL'ers are doing to stay motivated. I bough the Amber edition core and album. I managed to get a few friends to help me put together a year's worth of weekly themes to keep us motivated. It's here in case anyone else would like to join.

Does anyone have any other good PL inspiration sources?

I use the left side as page one (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday) and the right side as page two (Wed.-Sat.). I thought about going across the top and then the bottom, but I figured that people who looked at my album would read it like a book and if I went across the top then my journal cards wouldn't be in date order. Haha. Maybe nobody would care except me, but that is why I do it that way.

I approach it as a book format - left to right, top to bottom, move onto the other side, left to right, top to bottom.

Jen, your title page is lovely! I love the "C"

I love everyone's work. So inspiring!

Now that I'm ready to sit down and put together my first week, I have a few questions.

How are you journaling? Present tense or past tense? I always always have a hard time with this. Also are you describing the photo you have taken or are you summarizing your day?

Let me give you an example of my problem. Last Saturday my photo was of my daughter riding her new scooter. My journaling started off talking about her scooter but then went on describe the rest of my day. I went back and deleted it and journaled about the scooter and that was it. I know that there's no wrong way but I don't want every single day sounding like a list of what I did if you KWIM?

If you are numbering your photos, I'd like to know what everyone is using? Digitial, stickers, etc?

Thanks

Cindy - thanks for your response and I get what you are saying - especially as making decisions is NOT my forte...so if I don't use the protectors, I'm thinking I'll be moving pictures, papers, etc ALL over the place - hence no completed projects. And I'm love WRMK variety, but I'm afraid I'll get in the same "which one do I use, which one do i use"..

Kris - I LOVE crumb cake and sahara sand. did my FIL's Europe album in almost all sahara sand.

I'm starting to feel behind on this project as I haven't even written the notes 'in my head'. I have my mom's birthday this weekend which will be an out of town trip, and I really wish I had a mobile network card so I could get some work done on the four-five hour trip.

At this point, it's time to use my One Little Word (intentions) and get going! Need to order page protectors and choose a phone (HTC or iPhone - can't decide )

I love hearing the stories here and it really motivates me to get going!

I see two days of documentation.
1. Scooter-you already have a pic.
2. What I did today.-why not take a pic? Laundry, errands, chilling out are all apart of your day.

Another suggestion:
Don't delete-just put it in a different document and file. Added journaling may be of use to you later on if you are "stuck" for topics to take pics/journal. Also, it helps YOU personally to journal. No one needs to see it.

I have a question! I'm used to general card making and scrapbooking and have tons of scraps n bits I'd like to use but worry that since some of the pockets are small, that it'll make my contents too thick and possible rip the pockets. Should I stick with plain cardstock embellishments (or stamps and stickers) or have any of you ladies had any luck using traditional embellishments (like brads & layered pieces? Hope this makes sense.

do you approach the left side as page 1 and fill that first and then fill the right side and view it as page 2 OR do you view both pages as one layout and spread it across?

I am being random with it, actually. The 2-page spread is "a week in the life at a glance" and I'm putting the pictures where they fit in the spaces- I don't want to have to make decisions like "well, I have this picture from Monday but it's vertical, and I don't have a vertical space on the upper left-hand side of my page..." if you get my drift. I'm putting the pictures where I want (depending on the photo orientation) and explaining which day of the week they are (maybe) in the journaling. For me, I figure knowing which week a photo was from is good enough.

I am journaling on the cards, as well as adding some stickers, etc. on the photos themselves to include extra notes- meaning, the journaling on the cards may be- or may NOT be- about any of the included photos. I don't want to limit myself at all with this project: I don't want to feel I can't write about something because I didn't take a picture of it, or feel like I can only include 'scrapworthy' photos-- if I liked it (whatever IT was) enough to take a picture of it, I'll include it, as long as there's space in the page protector.

For me personally, I don't mind if some of it is just a 'what we did this week' kind of thing: I want to be able to look through this album in the future and see the things (mundane or otherwise) that make up our life on a daily / weekly basis. I'm not writing 'meaningful' journaling about every photo that I include (but then again, I'm more of a who-what-where journaler, anyway).

As to dimensional embellishments: I am including some 'more dimensional' embellishments in mine, but not a lot so far. (rickrack, ribbon, brads, pop dots, etc. attached with my ATG or tiny attacher.) I have seen some scrappers add some of the more dimensional things (like buttons, etc.) OUTSIDE of the page protector as opposed to on the photo or card itself.
(I'll see if I can find a link somewhere- and sorry this post got so long! )

Did y'all see in Becky's blog today that she's going to do 4x6 grid cards?! I'm so excited!!!!

I'm hoping to get my last pic taken today for week 1 and get pictures uploaded to share. I love seeing all of your pages. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Should I stick with plain cardstock embellishments (or stamps and stickers) or have any of you ladies had any luck using traditional embellishments (like brads & layered pieces?

I love using embellishments! I learned to purchase a 3 ring 12x12 scrapbook. I got it a JoAnn's. It's a big thick scrapbook with a place to put a photo on the cover.

For those stuck on journaling or feel the obligation to journal-
From Becky's blog-Jan 5, 2012

You don't have to go crazy customizing your Project Life album, because you know what? Your pictures and your words are custom and personal to your story.
and

Also from her blog:

Project Life is about your life. Keep it simple, add a little flair, or get fully creative with it. The beautiful thing is it's your choice.
It's what I love about PL.

I confess-I've never been a Becky Higgens fan. I don't know why, but I wasn't. Now, I discovered PL. It's changed the way I scrapbook and how I feel about scrapbooking. I've been scrapping for 14 yrs. I've done the fancy, simple, digital, hybrid....you get the idea. I always felt like I had to be the best which I hated feeling that way. As I get older, I've become wiser. I do what's fun for me. PL is fun. So, Becky is growing on me. Little by little.

Becky's blog today that she's going to do 4x6 grid cards?!

Am I the only one NOT seeing this?? Please enlighten me.....

Nevuh mind - I did a search on her blog and found this:

Do you have suggestions for how to incorporate 3.5×5 photos into the Project Life format? I’m helping my mom consolidate my family’s photos from my childhood into several Project Life albums and the first several years are primarily 3.5×5 and then they switch to 4×6 pictures.
I think mounting those pictures on 4×6 cards seems like the most natural solution so that you can slip those into the 4×6 pockets. We are going to be coming out with 4×6 grid cards (ETA to be announced) and that will help a lot, especially with projects like what you’re talking about. I think it’s awesome that you’re getting all those old photos into albums. Good for you and your mom! What a neat project to work on together, too.

Good morning,

Has anyone seen the cool PL Binder spine labels? They match the binders? Very cute! I can't seem to watch (or view the pics) the tutorial on printing on them that Monica McNeill did on Becky's blog. Am I the only one?

Piecedpapers...your 1st week is amazing!! I love all the journaling and the subjects of your photos...great job!!

I am no longer receiving email notices that someone has added to the thread. I'm kind of annoyed! Any suggestions?
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It's strange. I just check my watched threads when I come on 2peas.

I worked on week one but wonder do you approach the left side as page 1 and fill that first and then fill the right side and view it as page 2 OR do you view both pages as one layout and spread it across?
I use the left side as the 1st part of the week and the right as the 2nd..but-I'm trying to not include every single day, otherwise I'll feel like I'm doing a picture a day and I'm trying to approach PL on a weekly basis. KWIM?

How are you journaling? Present tense or past tense? I always always have a hard time with this. Also are you describing the photo you have taken or are you summarizing your day?
I'm treating my PL like it's a photo journal but with some quotes etc mixed in. My 1st week I've described some of the photos with arrows from the journaling cards to said photo but one of the cards is just a brief conversation my dh had with our 3 year old dgd and there is no photo. One photo is of 3 of our cats lying on all the laundry I just folded. The journaling card will say something like: "I fold laundry so the cats will have a nice warm comfy place to hang out ". I guess it would be past tense? Sorry I'm not much help. I would look at some other PL pages and see which suits your fancy and you feel the most comfortable with.

I want to embrace this philosophy!! Well said.

Is it too late to join in? I just decided yesterday to do PL 2012. I am about to order the Clementine kit, but all the page protectors are unavailable. I really want to use those page protectors, so I will just have to order them when they become available--hopefully next month. Until then, I have been organizing photos and journaling so far on my computer, and getting ready to have photos printed. Are most of you printing at home, or having a lab print for you? My printer is very unreliable for photos, so I will send mine out to a lab.

I am also thinking about getting a second set of everything to scrap 2011 photos. I haven't done anything with 2011 images so far--I haven't even printed them. Just organized the ones I want to scrap on my computer for printing.

Hey PL ladies!!!

I'm a bit behind. I got my PL title page done this weekend and posted today, Here it is. I'm going to a crop on Saturday, so I'm going to finish up week 1 and 2 when I'm there. I've been doing pretty good at keeping up with the journaling on the journaling cards, so I just need to put it together.

Val - I so loved your title page, it's really fabulous!

Pieced papers - I love your journaling cards and other products, they are so bright & happy...great for PL! Thanks for the freebie.

I'm going to have to work on putting less time into getting my PL pages done, my title page took longer than it should have, I'm going to have to learn some restraint.

Hope you all have a nice evening!

Tina
