I'm excited to find this forum. Our family is wanting to do PL and will start when we can get our hands in a turquoise kit. I'm excited to be able to join you all when we get it!

Just a little tip I discovered this weekend. If you print your own pictures...don't put the paper in upside down! The ink will pool and get all over your hands. Plus, the pictures of people look really weird. Finally, you'll waste a lot of ink until you try to print a pic light enough that you can see the words "canon" on the wrong side and finally realize what's wrong.

Sigh.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

I just found out about PL and decided to take the plunge yesterday. I am so excited! I am going to be documenting a particular thread in my life, my healing journey. I've decided to use this metaphor in my scrapbooking, and "travel" my inner terrain. A Magical Mystery Tour, as I continue to get to know more parts of myself.

Yesterday I went to A's and bought all the 12x12 papers that had journaling cards to cut out. Seriously. All of them. I cut them up last night, and I can't wait to start inserting them in page protectors!

The night before last I read up on it, and saw Marcy Penner's post about her "station." The timing was perfect, because we are remodeling and redecorating our house, and the offices are next. Last night I found a promising desk at the Goodwill, and I am about to go back there this morning to buy it.

I look forward to reading the thread and getting to know everybody. I was so happy to find the thread, I had to say hai.

I am excited to say that I am still keeping up... Just finished week 3. My weeks go Sunday through Saturday. It only took me a few hours this afternoon. I love the idea of just highlighting the week. At least there is no pressure to capture every moment. Definitely keeps this project realistic.

Patricia, wow. Your pages are so inspiring. I love the look of yours!

I went back to paper. There's something to be said about holding and working with a photo in your hands. Perhaps, paper book lovers can understand the concept.
So, I ordered the Epson Picture Mate. It should arrive by Friday.
Now, I know what I am doing this weekend!

I'm still plugging away at my PL! I got the kit on monday and filled all my Photo pockets, and journaling cards in the area I wanted..(since I dont have any of the A style projectors I'm currently using 6 4x6 divided page protectors.

I got my typewriter yesterday!!! I did a lot of journaling for my first week! I also did a few pockets on week 2. I think tonight I will work on cutting some files from my sil for a few empty pockets!

Well week 4 is completed and up on my blog for anyone interested. There's a link in my signature that will take you directly there. I am still enjoying this tremendously and still finding lots of little things here and there to photograph. I can also say that I definitely feel like I've developed me style with this album. I am trying to keep this album fairly flat as I am the queen of dimension and I want to be able to close it at the end of the year so I use a lot of print & cuts and digital phrases and journaling. Also, I don't seem to want to add a bunch of embellishment. It looks good on others, it just doesn't feel like it's quite me and that's OKAY.

I hope everyone else is still enjoying it and plugging along!

Here's a filler tip: use postcards. I purchased postcards from Walmart, near our airport, today.

They also had some cute buttons (clearance) with sayings on them. I guess the kids wear the pins on hats, backpacks or other clothing.

Ah! I was looking for a post like this last week and I didn't find it. It must have gotten buried.

Hi! I'm Nicole. I'm a SAHM mom of 4 and this is my first year of PL. I fell in love when I saw the work of Marcy Penner and Liz Tamanaha on Pinterest. I was lucky and I got my goodies for Christmas this year--just before they all sold out!

I have completed Week 1 and Week 2 already. Starting on Week 3 this weekend. I've been taking notes and lots of Instagram shots. I love how they look on my pages. I had hoped that I would get out my camera more, but really now I'm taking out my cell phone and my iPod... so I'm getting pictures that are a lot different--pictures I wouldn't otherwise have (like at the grocery store!). It's SO MUCH FUN!

I haven't paper scrapped regularly in years and I missed it so. This is such an easy way for me to do it and feel productive and feel like I'm accomplishing my scrapping goals like never before!!! Ah. Feels goooood.

You guys will love your Picturemates! My sister got our family the Charm for Christmas this year. I don't know how I could possibly keep up with the photos for PL without it!! I'm able to print out the photos at 2x3, which is perfect for fitting a photo and a couple lines of journaling on a journaling card.

Also, DD8 is taking pics of her friends and printing them out.

At first, I was annoyed at not having many slots for 4x6 photos. (I only have Design F page protectors since Design A is sold out right now.) But I'm finding that I love the compact little journaling cards.

I am taking the idea that each pocket is a separate layout, sort of. The full pages won't be cohesive, but hey, that's life around here!

I do have some of the WRMK 4x6 page protectors, but I'm liking the card slots so much.

wow I'm excited to see a post like this!! so much inspiration.

Im Susan and I'm a SAHM. I have a beautiful daughter named Emma Grace. I also have one amazing husband named Josh. We've been together now for 9 years. When I do work I'm a hairstylist and a store manager.

This is my first year doing project life and my first time truly attempting traditional scrapbooking. I use to digital scrapbooking, but I wanted to try something new. After huge inspiration from Ali Edwards I took the dive into project life. Then after finding inspiration from Mercy Penner, Elizabeth Kratchner, and Rahel Menig I've fallen in love with the process.

I've completed 15 weeks now. The more recent layouts are on my blog- Project Em. Its a blog written to my daughter. I've successfully documented her first year and a half of life.
week 14
week 15 and first traditional layout

thanks for the amazing inspiration!

Hi Everyone,
This is my first year at project life. woo hoo. I am so excited.

I did do my first page this week. I am not planning on doing a daily picture. Nor do I plan on doing a weekly layout. My goal is to do it Monthly. And if by chance I have 2- 2 page spreads for January then so be it. If I have 3 -2 page layouts that that is good too. But if I get one done then I am a happy camper...

I do not have any children so it is only me and my husband. We do have a cat. But honstly, we don't live that much of an exciting life..lol we go to work and we come home. But it works for us.

Please take a look and let me know what you think. I am also open to suggestions.

Thanks so much..

Kaylaaimee I LOVE your pages! I love the "good/bad" journaling cards. I used to write in a journal (back before I had a blog where now I do neither) and I always did a "the good and the bad" list. I think I'm going in incorporate it into my own pages.

I'm super excited to get my sketches out (I've had problems getting time in with 2, 3 month olds) but my awesome husband has offered to take them off my hands a few hours a week to allow me time to really devote to this. I even bought an old school typewriter off of ebay that I'm DYING to get in.

I designed a Valentines Day card for one of my journaling slots. I put it up on my blog if anyone wants to see/use it themselves!

Hi guys... I wondered if you could help?
I finally got my PL page protectors (I live in Europe) only to discover that they were the wrong size! What I thought was a 3x4 journaling card pocket turned out to be a 4x4 pocket. At the moment I am stuck with what I have... 50 page protectos with 6x8 and 4x4 slots; whole bunch of 3x4 journaling cards and 10-15 12x12 papers...
I was planning to create a hybrid PL this year...

Do you have any ideas how I can use the 4x4 pockets? how to journal? how to change the whole layout concept of a PL album to accommodate 4x4 sized pockets? I am so so so angry and disappointed and frustrated... I so was waiting for the protectors to arrive!

Could you just fill in those spaces with reg scrap paper and just glue your photos on to them? Or maybe use them in between regular sheets. I know my local craft store sells different sized page protectors. I accidentally bought 4x4 slotted pages. I figured I'd use my instagram shots there. I get them printed through postalpix.

That stinks. I'm sorry

Hi there,

I'm doing my pages on Sunday's each week but I've yet to do that . This past week I started on my PL Week 2 on Sunday evening and just finished it yesterday. Oh well. I'm sure I'll get more consistent as time goes by and I get into the flow of it.

Here's my 2nd week: Project Life Week 2 . Sorry about the 1st 2 pages being blurry.

Heather, I didn't know you could print 2x3 with the Charm. That's very interesting since I've had it with all the ink my printer sucks up. Do you mind me asking how many prints you get with the ink/paper combo? Thanks.

Oh Me4Skinny, I'm so sorry about your page protectors not the size you wanted or planned. With the 3x4 journaling cards, I would maybe cut them to 3x3 and then maybe adhere those to 4x4 cardstock? I know, a lot of cutting huh . As for the 6x8 slots, I would mat my 4x6 photos onto 6x8 cardstock or pp. Like the Darling Monsters said, instagram shots. I think that might only be for iphone users and if you have one...GREAT! Again, so sorry--that really sucks.

I've got lots of inspiration and blogs to check out. You all have been busy and I can't wait to see.

I actually broke my finger while I was removing fixtures. They were big metal grid systems. 8 ft high 4 ft wide. I loaded them onto a metal cart to push them out of the store and the weight shifted catching my finger between the metal bar of the cart and 15 of the fixtures. It atleast broke clean and in line, just takes 6-8 weeks to heal

hello me4sunny - this is my first year doing project life so I decided to do my own thing and use my own supplies. I ordered the WRMK page protectors that have 4 6x4 slots and 3 4x4 slots. I love this configiration - you can see the first 3 weeks on my blog...they're terrible images but you can see how I've used them.

Checking in. I just got my project life kit last Tuesday. So far, I've printed all my photos up to today, completed all my journaling except about 3 from this week. I just need to make some cuts with my ail for 1-2 blank pockets per week.

I'm having a hard time narrowing down my photos to only 7, yet also having a hard time taking 1 photo a day. Somedays I take a bunch of photos, and others I take none. And since I'm doing this PL more for my daughters (22 mo and newborn) to see how they grew over the yr 2012 I feel trapped to make sure there's equal number of photos and journaling cards per girl... You know how that goes when you 2 children close in age (but he got this, and she has that -- I'm thinking ahead). So I've been printing a lot of 3x4 so I can add more photos. I hope to be fully caught up by the end of next weekend!

I. LOVE. MY. EPSON. CHARM.

It arrived last night - so simple to set up and use. I've printed out photos for weeks 1-3 and am now headed to the journaling patch.

I am so thrilled that this little puppy will make PL a breeze!!!!

Penny,

How exciting! Sounds like you love your new Charm! I was wondering...can you print other sizes than 4x6 and about how many prints per pack of paper/ink combo? I think it comes with paper ink combo, right?

Thanks.

can you print other sizes than 4x6 and about how many prints per pack of paper/ink combo?

It DOES come with paper/ink combo and sells 150 sheets for glossy and 100 sheets for matte, for roughly the same price. It only comes with 20 starter 4x6 papers. I had some on hand and was able to print 25 off of the starter ink, vs. the touted 20. I - being the accountant and all - will monitor my first couple ink carts to see how many pictures I'm actually getting. My packs are matte, but after seeing the beauty of the glossy, I'm thinking now I should have gone with that....but I have always in the long run loved matte more....

It says on the printer when you go to print: 4x6, 3x5, 2x3, 2x2 and Custom. On Custom, you are able to enter a width and height. So, I'm thinking you can do anything up to 4x6 and they can be bordered or borderless.

Very impressed with it. And Epson has that instant dry feature - where your prints don't have to set up and they don't run if water hits them. I knew water wouldn't run a print from my 1400, but I tested it on the Charm prints, too, and they are stable under running water. Epson.

Now, on a different note, WHY DON'T I WANT TO JOURNAL THESE PICTURES??!!

Congratulations Amy! When did you begin writing the book? Did it take you a while to find a co-author (I'm assuming artist???)?

Amy, that's awesome! I am writing a novel right now, and I know how satisfied and proud you much be to have your work published and out there!

As for my PL, I have diligently been taking photos and notes for journaling, but have yet to assemble any thing. I still want the Design A page protectors, but I did buy some the the Design F and some of the 6x4 WRMK ones. And I have ordered my first batch of prints from the lab, which should arrive in the next couple of days.

I can really see where printing my own photos would make a HUGE difference in getting the momentum going on this project. But a new photo printer isn't in my budget right now. maybe in a couple months...

Thanks, ladies! I'm still so happy about it. The other Amy Myers author isn't me. They have me linked with her right now. My husband is working on getting that separated...I've just written the children's book.

When did you begin writing the book? Did it take you a while to find a co-author (I'm assuming artist???)?

I started writing it in the winter of 2010. I'd had the idea in my mind for quite a while so when I was approached about it, it was pretty easy to actually get it written. The illustrator is actually a former employee of my husband. He's a graphic artist and also local to the area so I thought he'd be perfect since he's familiar with Lake Norman as well.

As for Project Life, life just took a downhill turn last week. I honestly didn't think it could continue to go downhill but it did. I got a sum total of one picture taken for the whole week. I'm going back and filling in the blank spots with more generic photos like the stuffed animal I bought for my daughter for helping at home and some scrapping supplies (ignore my frozen pea button for a moment) I got in the mail recently. I'm really behind with my blog and I want to at least get my PL stuff updated with it. I'm doing a little better this week. My class thought I was crazy today for taking a picture of my Smart Board with the directions for the teachers today for the class I'm teaching the staff. Even though it seems like everything else in my life is downhill, I'm happy my class always makes me smile. I need to figure out a way to add them into my scrapbook.

For those using Shutterfly this year...did you see Becky's latest BLOG POST?

Now Shutterfly has layouts that looks like the traditional Project Life books. I'm very happy to see this.

I had high hopes of having each of my children (3 boys: 10, 6 and 4) completing their own project life album. Something we could look back on and smile and laugh etc. Yeah right!!! We got 3 weeks into it and I had to constantly remind each of them to take a picture everyday. When they did take a picture it would be blurry or of basically nothing. There was no effort at all on their part from day 3. Not to mention that when it came down to journaling they didn't want anything to do with it. I would get a couple of words and that was it. So then I got to thinking, maybe I was asking too much from them, so I decided I would just just do one project life between the three of them. For the last week it was still too much for them. P.S. They were super excited to do the project when I brought it up to them, bought them the kits, binders and the CAMERAS . So today I told them that I was done. That at the end of the year they would not have an album of their own. I am a little upset (these are the times I wish I had a little girl )but I will just hope to get little bits and pieces from them throughout the year and incorporate it into my album.

Scrappincali--

Bummer. If you decide to sell it off, I'm sure you can get someone to buy it on fsot..

Oh Scrapincali, I'm so sorry it didn't work out the way you wanted. I don't think the kids being boys vs girls would have made any difference at all but I think you might be really frustrated. I have a dd in her late 20's that I would LOVE to scrap with but she wants no part of it. Now my 5 year old dgs loves it!
What I think might work for you is what others have done if you have the space. Leave one PL album out on a counter or table in the kitchen or living room. Start working on it yourself and when they see the pictures are all "yours" and they know you welcome their participation, they might want to add some pictures of their own. Make the photos from you of "your" everyday stuff and I'm sure they'd like to see some of theirs. Include dh too. Right now they might think of it as an assignment or a chore. I would keep the other 2 kits in a safe place and that way you can do it again in a year if you like the approach. I've changed mine and am doing a monthly review type now. Even weekly for me was too much like a photo a day since there are 8 photo slots for a 2 page spread. That to me was like a photo a day.
They're kids and they're wired differently than us .
Just an idea. Like I said, I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you planned.
