Kids don't realize how important PL will be to them later in life.
Does your family eat dinner together and discuss their day?
If so, maybe you can jot down some notes/record and then journal for them.
Another idea: why not have a picture taking day (an hour or two) each week.

Walk in the park, walk downtown, play games, go to an event.....I'd have one child take pics one week and then the other another week. Or, have them both take pics.

You can also fill in their albums with pics you take. Also, have them draw for their journaling.

Bribery may also help: if they work on their PL albums/photos/journaling-they get a prize.

How are you doing with PL? Tell us about your PL since you began PL. Are you having difficulty keeping up? Have you modified anything to fit your family and your life? Do you need motivation? Or, what motivated you siince you began PL?

I have a P and S camera. It has a fish eye effect. Yesterday, we received more rain. DH and I went to the grocery store. On the way home, it was dark. With the rain, streetlights and car lights on the road, it gave me the perfect opportunity to play with my P and S. I took some fish eye photos of the entire rain effect. I can't wait to print them.

My Epson Photo Mate: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS MACHINE! I think it's a necessity if you don't have another photo printer. If you are thinking of PL for 2013, you may want to put yoru $ away for one. It's one of the best tools for PL.

I also love Jenne's daily prompts. They give me alot of ideas. Last week, I really wasn't myself (med changes) so I didn't look at her promts. I can't wait for them to come out today. I'll try and post a link when she posts it on her thread.

How are you doing with PL?

Hi Cindy,

How are you doing with PL?
Well, I only got 2 weeks done and realized putting 7 or 8 photos a week in my PL was exactly like doing a photo a day. So, I've changed my approach to monthly. When I take photos they go into a file labeled the month and year. All I have to do is look at that months' photos and pick a few highlights. I'm gonna give that a try anyway.

I'm getting the Epson Photo Mate !! I just need to save a little more $$ and then I think I'm going to order it from either B&H or Amazon. B&H Photo has free shipping so I might do that. Is there a difference between the Charm and regular or is it just the Photo Mate Charm?

Anyway, I would love a link to Jenne's daily prompts. Also, can't wait to see your photos of the rain.

Thanks,

Hey Cindy & everyone,

I am still feeling great about this. I have found the thing I like the most is working with my Cameo and doing a lot of print & cut elements to add embellishments to pages. I am really trying to keep my albums flat and hold my dimension to a minimum. I am a girl who loves pop dots and it is a chore every week to hold them back! Also, journaling directly on pictures has been a lot of fun. I just finished Week 6 that will post tomorrow and I have had what, 3 inserts already, so I'm preparing myself to perhaps need another album to fit it all in to. But it's still a lot of fun, and hopefully that won't end any time soon.

Hi everyone,

I'm a little behind, just finished putting week of 1/15 - 1/21 in my book today. Still taking pictures and keeping notes in a calendar. Most of all, still enjoying the process. I've had some busy weekends but hope to catch up next weekend. Also not stressing about having a photo a day. Sometimes I'm telling the story with receipts, tags and other stuff of life.

This is my first time doing PL, and I am loving it! I got behind a week when my printer died, but I am caught up now! I usually take one day to catch up the week, and it is so much less stressful than scrapping for me! lol And I can not believe that I already look at the pics and think gee I would never have remembered that! I think its great, and I pretty much do it in it's basic form!

Thank goodness for my picture mate! I am happy with it.

I begin my week on Sunday. I have a few photos from today. I have to cut some of them to fit into the little sleeves. My photos are taken throughout the week. Then, I correct and print them on Sunday. During the week I add journaling.
I am having a blast with this project. It's like meeting Peter at the gates of Heaven. When I review the pics which is my weekly photo/life review. Ya know, life isn't that bad! LOL!

Here are Jenne's prompts from her PL/365 thread:

2/5 It's Superbowl Sunday!
Are you watching the game, hiding in your craft room or ignoring it altogether?

2/6 Take a photo of your chocolate stash. (Make sure no one is looking!)

2/7 Wave ALL Your Fingers At Your Neighbors Day
Walk down to the corner and take a photo of your street. Imagine what it looked like 20 years ago or what it will look like 20 years from now.

2/8 It is February--- take a photo of your warmest blankie, favorite sweater, fuzzy slippers or whatever you use to keep warm.

2/9 Take a photo of where you keep your weekend "To Do" list. Is it on your phone, on your fridge or tacked to the wall in the garage?

2/10 Take a photo of the inside of your pantry. What do you have a good stash of?

2/11 White Shirt Day
Take a photo of your pile of laundry or ironing-- if you iron-- which I don't. lol

Are you overwhelmed with PL? If so, why? If not, why?

I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to scrapbooking. PL is supposed to help me let it go. Still, I find I spend too much time with PL. I think I will set a timer for myself when I correct, print and journal. I am also going to start taking journaling cards with me-so I can write when I'm on the go. I think that will really help me with journaling.

I have been busy printing! BUT, SO EXCITED TO SAY that all of my pictures through today are selected and printed and in my album!!

Major accomplishment for me! Only one week is journaled, but I feel like the journaling is MUCH easier than getting the pictures taken and slotted onto pages and printed out.

And, sadly, I myself am only in the first 6 weeks ONE TIME, with the exception of being on the title page. I need to get better about that.

Hopefully tomorrow I can cut out my WEEK titles and do some journaling. DH leaves for Mexico for a week, but it will be an extremely busy week at work....So - that's my update. my Charm. And for sure, it is a photo for an empty day.

Well, I was doing a good job of keeping up-to-date until last week. We have some major family medical issues going on, so I haven't done anything. Well, I've taken a couple of pics of ds, and the snow from the blizzard we had last week, but that's about it.

I'm thinking of combining 2 weeks onto a 2-page spread, whenever I get back to normal life, and doing PL. I'm not going to have a lot of pics/memorobilia, and honestly, I don't really want a lot of documentation about our medical stuff, because it's not going to be something I really want to look back on. Anyone have any experience with working around difficult family issues in your PL?

I am not feeling overwhelmed by PLife - and I have no idea why!! LOL
I keep a daytimer in my purse (bring it into my scraproom when I scrap), that's where I jot down all the silly things DS says, where we are going, if there's a specific shot I want to take.

While DS is really busy with after school activities, I find I'm the one who's always taking him here, there, and everywhere. I will pull out my daytimer all the time while we're out and jot down a few things about what he said, how my day at work was, if something interesting happenned in the news ... it's easy when you do it a couple of times a week. Plus DH and I communicate a lot during the day over email - so I keep those emails for reference until I've journaled that week.

But like Penny, I'm not really in a lot of pictures. Actually, neither is DH!! I have to get better using the timer.

So far, I have not done this....but I have done it with other family secrets.

I sense you want to journal or document the difficult issues. Why not do it? You don't have to put it in your PL scrapbook. You can put it in a locked drawer, secret place, burn it or shred it.

Do what's comfortable for you and/or the other people involved.

DH works Saturday and I'm catching up on last week's pix and lots of journaling cards! Still enjoying it!

Love this thread!

I am still working PL. I have a tendency to put in all the layout elements EXCEPT JOURNALING. My goal this week is to add words and then I'll be up to date.

I also purchased a wireless printer that I can use for photos. I'm determined to keep this going throughout 2012.

Hi Peas! I started late, and haven't been able to get here for a couple weeks. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to submit my projects to our class (have a support ticket in the works). I have taken pics of my layouts through January, and have more or less finished my PL through Valentine's Day.

COMMENTS:
PiecedPapers said the key was to "really do it and not fuss over the details." I am struggling with "letting go" and just getting it done. Because I am using a variety of page protector formats (WRMK) part of the challenge is to figure out which ones fit my photos. And this means that I am not in strict chronological order. I am also doing a ton of 8.5x11 inserts, and trying to get those chronological is a bit of a challenge as well. I am hoping that I will get better at this!

me4sunny how is the 4x4 pocket pages going? I am not using Becky's pages, so I don't have any 3x4 pockets either. The instragams idea sounds like a good one. I haven't tried instagram yet, though.

Enna I will definitely check out how you are using the WRMK format.

Brooklyns Mama said "I'm having a hard time narrowing my photos down to seven." ME TOO! So I'm not. And thus, I think I'm missing the whole point of this process!!! not sure if I am going to change, though.

Penny I'm having trouble getting "me" in the pictures, too.

TexasJen asked if anyone had experience around difficult family issues. My PL is an "art therapy" project, so I deal with difficult issues a lot. It's not easy sharing my DID story because of the stigma around it. Yet, if people with DID or other trauma issues don't share, the stigma will never be addressed. Right now my thinking is that if I have to live with this every day, then surely it's okay to ask my viewers to read about it. It's just part of life. I'm not a magazine. In fact, I think I like the entries when people share their struggles the best. I find it humanizing and endearing.

ENVY:
FLCindy's (and Penny's) Epson Picture Mate
Brooklyns Mama's (and DarlingMonsters) typewriter
Anybody with a camera phone
MaryPats for being caught up!

BRILLIANCE:
FLCindy's suggestion to use postcards. (I also love your "It's like meeting Peter at the gates of Heaven" line! so true!) oh--setting a timer! excellent idea.

SHOUT OUTS:
welcome to traditional scrapbooking, Suzan!
CONGRATULATIONS on your book deal, Amy!

HOW IT'S GOING:
I still haven't found any semblance of a rhythm with this project. partly because I don't really have any semblance of a rhythm with my life! I think the main thing that's worked for me is having a dedicated station. Although yesterday I dragged my stuff to the DR table, cause I wanted to work while DH and I were hanging out. (hey, I should take a picture of that!)

I think my biggest obstacle is that I don't have any photo editing software, so all I have are 4x6 prints. Also I now have a ton of 3x4 journaling blocks, but no 3x4 page protectors! I need to order those Type A ones... are they in stock yet?

I'm still working on my PL, although I am currently about 2 weeks behind on assembling the pages. I do fine with the taking pictures & printing them part. If I'm doing 4x6 prints, I just upload them to Meijer and pick them up when I go to the grocery store (which is pretty much daily) and I print the smaller ones at home. I'm currently struggling with just putting it all together. I honestly don't like spending my "scrapbook time", which is usually a couple of hours on Saturday to do my PL and I haven't really figured a way around that yet. I also think I tend to try to get my pages too perfect, so it takes longer than I'd like, I guess I thought it would be fast, but it isn't for me.

One the up side, my husband knows that I'm taking photos everyday, so last week when my daughter's prom dress came in the mail, he even thought to snap a photo when she opened it...I love that he did that for me.

Anywho, that's where I am on PL. I'm still working on it and I really want to keep up with it, but I am struggling a little.

I understand what you wrote. Last week, I took three pics of the same theme. I had embellishments for the pics, so I scrapped a page instead of putting it in PL page protectors. I put the s/b page in my PL album. I also scrapped pics of the Superbowl halftime show, the game and winning $ in a football pool. These scrapped pages also went into my PL album.

Why don't you put some pics in PL page protectors and scrap some? I also correct my photos before printing. The photos are the main items on a PL page protected page or a s/b page.

How much time does anyone take to do PL?

I started a new job a couple of weeks ago (I'm three days into my third week), and it's kicking my butt. I'm doing the same sort of thing I've always done, but I'm adding a new skill set to the mix, and I'm very SLOW. I am supposed to work 5 hours a day, but in order to learn the job, some days have been stretching to 7 hours. So when I come home, I'm beat. There are deadlines involved, and my stress level is pretty high.

I am taking photos daily, though. Thanks to my iPhone. I would not be able to do it without it. And printing photos is easier, too, thanks to my Picturemate Charm. I am not the kind of person who can just scoot on up to Walmart or Target or even Walgreens to pick up some photos, so there is NO WAY I'd be coming up with PL if I couldn't print pix at home.

On the bright side -- my first core kit arrived yesterday! Last night, DD went to bed early, so I had some time to open up the boxes of cards and fondle everything. I got the Clementine kit (I ordered it with the page protectors on Friday, when everything was restocked) I had been doing digi elements only, and I was having a hard time with printing the cards, etc. By the time I chose the cards I wanted to print, put them onto an 8.5x11 document, printed them and trimmed them, I could have been SCRAPBOOKING! So that pushed me to buy a physical kit. I did have some extra digi journaling cards printed and cut, but these are much nicer and will be so much easier!

I ordered the Variety Pack 2 page protectors (some of Design A, and some of the design where there are four vertical photos per side, so, same number of photos as Design A, just vertical instead of horizontal) plus some of the 6x12 and some of the protectors with 4 6x6 slots. I think I will give DD a blank 6x12 page and tell her to do something with it. A drawing, a photo (she has been taking photos with her friends, since we got the PictureMate), etc. And then later I'll do the same with at least one 6x6 slot, if not more.

I also collected a few 6x6 paper pads, so it'll be easy to use those as background paper for the 6x6 slots. A 4x6 photo, slightly trimmed, will leave plenty of room for journaling and/or some embellishments.

Now, after writing this post, I feel inspired to get going again -- too bad I have to get ready for work!

I just decided to start PL for the first time on the First of February. Soooo... I didn't really have enough to do 4 full weeks of January. Instead I did a 2 page monthly review for January. Then started off pretty strong with February. I am completely caught up to date except for one 6x12 that I want to add in, but I am waiting for some supplies I ordered to get here for that.

I am having alot of fun. It's a nice little challenge for me to use such a small "canvas" to create from. It's also a challenge to use things that don't really stick up off the page. My 12x12 pages are usually pretty thick because of all the embellishing I do. I also don't journal... ever. So, I am making an effort to improve my skills in all these areas.

Hello everyone! I think this is the first time I've posted to this thread even though I've been keeping up. I do a week review and I've loved the process so far. The single most important thing has been a small date book that I jot notes in to. I haven't worried about the number of pics I take. Usually one week takes a full two pages but there was a week where it was one page only.
I've started using journaling tags or labels on each picture and I kinda like that versus using a 3x4 card. If I keep this up I'll have tons of the cards left.
At the moment we have a busy life living overseas and I wonder how PL will change for me once we move back to the States this year.

Tina-I understand what you were saying completely. For me it helped when I decided to "let go" a little and just enjoy the process. I don't take PL too seriously. I don't need my pages to look perfect because PL reflects my real life and it's far from perfect

I love reading everything you ladies share even if I don't post much. Oh and Cindy, it takes me about 2 hours at the end of the week for me to complete the previous week's layout. That's from uploading pics to last journaling card.

Hi there, I just ordered a bunch of PL stuff and I have a question. I want to make an album for each kid as a "school work" and "activity" binder. (The kids are almost 3 and 5.5 yo so these albums so far are fairly easy and they can grow with the kids)

And I also want to do a family album starting when I was pregnant with my son and working forwards to today (or working backwards from today to when I was pg... Either way...) as a family album to keep our memories

So my question is... Should I also make each kid their own PL album too (starting with when I was pregnant with them to today)

I ask because it kills me that we have one copy of each photo album from when I was a kid and I don't have them. So I think what a gift it would be for each kid to have their own... And I'd have the family album.

Is that crazy????? Anyone else doing that or something similar? Thoughts?

LilacGal,

I don't think that is crazy at all. If it were me I would get my albums together.. on for each kids and focus a little bit more on them for their book, but also include family and siblings too. I would sit down and start at the beginning (because that's just how I think.. if the book starts at the beginning, then I need to also. lol) I would print off pictures and start stuffing pages... then go back and start adding the pretty stuff, and the journaling. You have a few years to back track on, so I would do a rough draft (the initial stuffing of the pages) because I always find something extra and decide to move something around. Then once you have your "story board" so to speak you can easily fallow along to get them scrapped and in the book. I am loving project life. I still embellish a ton and try to have a lot of fun even on the small little "pages". When it comes together there is soooo much to look and I think it looks amazing.

Most of all going back and starting when they were little will be fun. It always blows my mind when I go through those old pictures and see my peanut when she was just born... and she's only 3.

Good luck, hopefully something I said will help you.

PL Page Protectors

What PL page protectors do you use most often in your PL?
I use A,C and D. When I first began PL, I felt I had to use all of the different styles to have a better variety in my scrapbook. I found it didn't work that way for me. So, I've re-done (re-organized) pages as I found necessary so I feel comfortable with my scrapbook.

Jenne's prompts for this week:

2/26 Levi Strauss Day.
Take a picture of you in your favorite, best fitting, butt flattering jeans.

2/27 Today, take a screen shot of your most favorite TV show. This is one that could easily be repeated every couple of months. Shows come & go like crazy now days!

2/28 Take a photo of something RED today-- anything that appeals to you. These kind of shots are a great way to practice your photography skills.

2/29 Leap Day
Take a photo of yourself or your kids LEAPING. Playing hopscotch, jumping rope, jumping on the bed, anything that gets your feet off the floor!

3/1 Take a picture of whoever is cooking dinner in your house tonight.

3/2 Dr. Seuss Day!
Take a photo of some one laughing or being silly. Make sure you turn your camera to a wonky angle before you snap.

3/3 What If Cats & Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs? Day
Celebrate by taking of photo of something you think your fur baby would totally get into, if only he or she had the thumbs to get the door open.

Off into another week Peas! Make it a great one!

Hey all!

I haven't been posting much on this thread, but I have been following.

I'm not posting all of my PL, at SO's request, but I posted a few pages & an idea of how I approach my album, if anyone is interested.

You can find it HERE.

I don't do a week at a time. I just started at 1/1 and kept going. There are a couple of days that I skipped and a couple of days that I have 3 pages of pics for. I don't want to do many traditional pages for this year, (I'm still trying to get caught up on traditional LOs for 2009 on!) so I wanted to include all of my pics in this album, even if that means it ends up being two binders.

thanks for looking!

ALL of my pictures are printed and IN, up through yesterday's photo. I really need to get the journaling done. Have only journaled and completed week 1. Not too worried. Audit is done, work is letting up, some vacay days are coming up and life is GOOD. And Project Life will get done.

PL Jenne's Prompts Week 13

Jenne wrote on her post:

SO requests that I not post ours on my blog- he says it's too personal, but I love to see what y'all do!

Is your PL too personal to share with others on the internet?

I don't think of it as "too private" per se - but I'm wondering "what is the point"? In other words, if we are all doing something like this, just how much ORIGINALITY and CREATIVITY do you need to "put out there" for others?

I like seeing neat ideas and different uses - and I understand WHY Becky H has a design team, and I love their work - but I personally don't feel the need to put out there every week's spread that I do....

Those are my thoughts. Anyone else have thoughts?
